Prius owners report a median mpg of 48, well below the inflated EPA figures. Toyota and Honda have mastered the "EPA magic" and know how to beat the test.

If you see the paper, you will note that clearly she got all of the good looks in our family.

We just had a family gathering this past weekend (her side only, mine is out of the picture) where we were speaking with some people that we haven't seen since our wedding 12 yrs ago. The first thing out of their mouths after saying "Hi, how are you" was about how they still can't believe how atrocious my mother was at our wedding.
It may be good therapy for her to contribute the story to this web site. Then again, maybe its best just to keep it in the past.

Pat- I hope things are working out for Anne Marie. She's been in our thoughts.
Elm- I guess no car show meet next year, huh. Congrats on the relocation, and the G35. Here's hoping the tonsils go without a hitch!
Juice - Nice work on the top.
Steve- Sounds like an interesting day for the 2 of you. Productive and educational all rolled into one.
For me, the busy weekend was due to my niece's bat-mitzvah and all the family craziness associated with family get together's To keep it on topic, because of the weather (I was hot, my wife cold) I brought up the dual climate control in the new Outback Wagon

Alan: interesting story, and I can relate. Took a long time, 7 years actually, for my in-laws to truly accept me. Fortunately I can tell you that today our relationship is great.
You never know, your mother might just come around. Despite all the rejection one thing I always did was to keep the door open for them.
Bob - now what? More post graduate school, or will she work? Tell her congrats from me.

My mother in law is fine; kind to children , dogs and what have you (although my dog thinks otherwise - deeply suspicious every time MIL visits and spends the time counting the silverware, suspecting MIL of sundry crimes) but the father in law is a different prospect entirely. Refused to come to our wedding if the parents of the Bridesmaid were there. His daughter is as bloody minded as he is, so no Father in Law at wedding.
Ten years later, with two young children, I insisted on some rapproachment, and organized a visit to him. Major mistake as he then wrote the most appalling letter to Judy claiming that our son is the Spawn of Satan. Judy suffered failry severe psychological trauma as a reslt. Both kids' verdicts were fairly firmly that they had met their grandfather and did not need to see him again.
Judy claims my family are like The Waltons - "You all love each other!" Mum assures her that we are much more like the Addams Family "Weird but Loving".
Cheers

Actually, he is pretty angelic barring the fact that he has Asperger's Syndrome and therefore things get very interesting from time to time. I'm not sure Judy would say the same thing but Dad's get the good natured bit
Cheers

You're slipping, man.
All these family politics are a shame, but in the end it's their loss, no?
In my situation I can say I have no regrets, but I'm not sure the others (in the wife's family) can say the same.

As for inlaws, mine are pretty good. My FIL likes to fix and/or build when they visit. Luckily, he was a carpenter for 50 years so he knows what he's doing. My MIL likes to supervise, analyze, and criticize. :shades:
Nowadays I get gardening tips from the father-in-law, and help him out when I'm up there with weeding and stuff like that. The mother-in-law is probably more like Karen's.

I can readily agree that my wife had a difficult time with my Dad for a while.

My sister has been getting plenty of radio air time this week. She was a guest on NY station WOR (one of the nations first radio stations) this morning, and was on a Balt/Washington station (also carried on XM) the night before. Burned up her '15 minutes' several times over! Unabashed plug from proud brother: that's www.motherinlawstories.com

my first set of in-laws were 'ok' in the grand scheme of things although I have to admit they annoyed me at times. My father-in-law died suddenly in the fifth year of the marriage .. the mother-in-law died suddenly 10 years later ...
my current set of in-laws have taken me in as 'family' .. and have always made me feel more than welcome ... interestingly enough ... MY parents are the ones that annoy me to no end! I've always told people that *I'M* the 'sanest' one in the family .. and that really scares them ....

Elm, hopefully we can still meet for lunch later this week. We can always just have ice cream. There's a Ben & Jerry's in Rock. Center.

Re: Elm and ice cream - I thought that dairy was not recommended after tonsil removal. Jello and flavored ice pops are okay....maybe frozen daiquiris too?
