Spokane -> Osoyoos, BC over Sherman Pass, WA last week - pretty drive, would have been way more fun thru the twisties with the OB. Good trip, Daniel played 5 games over 3 days, and I think we all enjoyed hotel with pool vs. camping.
Spokane -> Seattle on Friday, visit friends & watch the Mariners lose to the RedSox. Boring drive over I-90, but Snoqualmie Pass is always pretty, only because it's green
I sense the kids are feeling the end of summer & start of school is on the horizon - a sense of trying to cram as much fun into the time remaining. Football practice has already started at school, and soccer is gearing up as well. Kind of wierd, fall sports with temperatures still in the 90's.
Cheers!

Hey Rob, did you get your LGT all fixed up from the hail damage?
Juice, my Camry hybrid is surprisingly fast. It's just not blisteringly fast!
Paul, I haven't seen a single Mariners game this year. They're so dissappointing! I did get to see Real-Madrid play DC United in an exhibition game (Ronaldo didn't play though, Juice) at Quest field which was cool. My Seattle summer sports highlight!
tom
I can't believe they played DC United and it wasn't here at RFK. I'd have to go all the way to NY to watch them play! Plus the tickets weren't cheap. Add hotel and transportation, too.
I'm going to the beach once again for a last hurrah, and we're renting a boat this time, to get that out of our system. We took Tatiana on a PWC last year, those things are up to 1100cc and so fast it's scary, so this year we'll take the whole family along in something bigger.

PS: Add one more road trip - may have to do a one-day-over-and-back to Bozeman next week - a Mr. Honey-do errand for my wife's office picking up fun-run T-shirts. And does going downtown to pick up 40 cases of paper the week before school starts count as a road trip?
ph :confuse:
Tom - I am still driving around with the 200+ dents and dings in my car. The car needs to be disassembled, including bumper covers, lights, mouldings, badges, door handles, then refinished and totally repainted. Every single body panel got dented. The insurance estimate is 10 pages long. I am in denial, but will get it done if I can ever find the right body shop. Rob M.
I worked all summer .. day after we finished school year, we were working our summer reading program .. had the week of the 4th off, then finishing the summer program ... finished up on aug 1 and picked up my daughter and her family at the airport on aug 2 .. took them back to airport on aug 9 (day before the 'new' restrictions) ... and then was at school working on aug 11 ... spent several days at school last week, and then we were 'officially' back at work on monday of this week .. today was first 'kid' day ...
what vacation?????
You got to love folks that make life here so interesting.

Road trips? Did a road trip all over the big Island of Hawaii 2 weeks ago. We had a DC minivan for a week- it was brand new and we put almost 1000 miles on it. Beautiful Island, not nearly as developed and crowded as some of the other Islands. Visited Volcanoes national park- also really neat. Didn't get a close look at lava though.
As for the DC minivan- no wonder american automakers are not doing well. It's waaay behind the Japanese minivans in terms of performance, comfort, design, and fit and finish. It also got horrendous gas mileage (although it was brand new).
Also had a Mustang convertible. It was a lot nicer than I expected. Pretty well assembled, handled well, and comfortable. Very plasticky interior though, and I could do without the retro design theme for the gauges (made them harder to read). Fun though.
I saw very few Subarus- 2 STi's and a few OBs and Forresters. No Legacies or Imprezzas. I felt like I was in the midwest- surrounded by mostly domestic cars (rentals).
I remember more Subies on Oahu (probably because they actually have a dealership there!

Where are you guys hiding the tire posts around here? I'm past due. Guess I need to figure out how to use the search tool, lol.
Bozeman trip is a no-go - going locally for the shirts. Darn. I lived there for 2 months right out of HS, sould have been nice to visit, however briefly.
Cheers!
Paul
I put 4500 miles on the OB the last 12 months so I'm wondering if it's worth it to buy Geos or Falkens instead of whatever the 20,000 mile special is at Les's or Big O's this week.
But we shouldn't complain, the pacific is in the 50s even in SoCal!
Ken: there's a new guy in the CR-V threads that reminds me of Hondabro, he actually said the RAV4 V6 was equivalent to the CR-V SE.
It's, oh, about ONE HUNDRED horsepower short!

Seeing you writing of the temperature in the water. I just put the solar heating back on for our pool. I usually persuade one of the kids to get in before the end of September but it need a few good sunny days to warm the pool first. Currently it is about 13 C or say 55 F. Could take some time beore i am tempted in. I want to see it over 25C (77F) before I leap in.
Nights are still cold though. I can check the temperature by how close the dog is. She insists on guarding me at night (a bit wearing, but she has a thing about guarding me, particularly from my mother in law!).
I have been towing a trailer a fair bit lately. The Kluger is an excellent tow vehicle but the width tends to obscure the trailer for backing.
Cheers

I was always wondering though why does Ford maintain that Mercury brand? Now, my next vote would be to get rid of Mercury brand (not Mercury the planet).
(you can insert your own Mickey Mouse company joke here :shades: ).
Well the sun's a hot star
Mercury's hot too
Venus is the brightest planet
Earth's home to me and you
Mars is the red one
And Jupiter's most wide
Saturn's got those icy rings
and Uranus spins on its side
Neptune's really windy
And Pluto's really small
Now we wanted to name the planets
And now we've named them all.
The Pluto line could be:
They killed Pluto, great
We used to have nine planets
But now we've only got eight!

We got accordian shutters for the pation door and skylight (very large surface and PITA), and the window above the front entrance, which is hard to get to. I hate this s**t (sorry admins, couldn't help it!).
Just a quick update about school. I am teaching 6th grade World History and English to 33 kids as part of what we call and ESE Bridge team. These are slow learners with an average gade 2 reading level...got 2 autistic kids, one high funtioning and one low functioning; also got 2 kids that should not be mainstreamed but need to bein an alternative center. The work is more intense than with regular students, which is why I only have a total of 33 between 2 classes, but so far, I am enjoying it.
Off to put up shutters (not quite like off to see the wizard!)

P.s. pic of Michael and I from his camp visiting day in PA
Michael seems to be getting taller with every picture taken...
He actually came home from camp a bit taller than I am...a combo of me shrinking and him growing!
He's taking AP English and American History, Honors Chemistry , Algebra 2, Italian 3, Guitar 2 and Music tech...a good work load..he will have to work his butt off..he wants to do the Pharmacy program at UConn.
He just gets better and better at guitar also...much smoother solos and better tunes that he's been writing.
Serge
Mercury? I think it's safe for now. (Both the planet and the brand!)

On the other hand, they didn't change the definition of "elements" because they started discovering more of those.
"Although we think it's Dopey that Pluto has been downgraded to a dwarf planet, which has made some people Grumpy and others just Sleepy, we are not Bashful in saying we would be Happy if Disney's Pluto would join us as an eighth dwarf. We think this is just what the Doc ordered and is nothing to Sneeze at."
someone is a bit Daffy today.
Serge: batten down the hatches. Whatever that means.
And before Rob says it, yes, I'm quoting Bugs Bunny.

Good luck with Ernesto! My friend is down visiting his siter in Coral Springs -he's "looking forward" tot he experience. Personally, I think he just lost it a bit. Must be from all the Ford vehicles he's owned.
Hang in there.

We've been quite dry for the 2nd half of our summer. My veggies are spindly and just pathetic. Usually by now I'd have bushels of cucumbers...
I even washed the cars on Tuesday, so we did get some rain (100% chance every time), but not as much as we needed. The ground is still bone dry.
-juice
I'll do better than just sending some rain...I'll send you Ernesto!! Look for him soon on the big screen at your local cineplex...we only got 1/2 inch of rain; you should be gettinh 6-12 inches...buy a boat.
Serge
from the land of big clouds, big gators, and heavy hurricane shutters!
Not sure about you, but they are forecasting rain (total of 2- 6 inches) between today (Fri) and Sunday, so your veggies should perk up quite a bit

Hey Brenda, can I borrow that Town Car, since we're gonna share the B9SC anyway?

Bob
btw .. what happened to 'swampy'?
(And I think it's about MY turn with the B9SC ... oh yeah .. there really isn't one ... yet)
This is not what my veggie garden needed. First we get a drought, then too much rain that will only erode away all the nutrients in the soil.

(who else ribs me about the 'town house'?)
Should I pursue this w/insurance company or try to clean it up myself (keeping in mind I have little "spare" time)? Anyone have any experience w/this or suggestions?
ps - swampy, we've missed your biting wit.
(PS, in case you're wondering, I learned all about this when I got silver spray paint on my dad's red car as a kid -- painting my bike on a windy day of course).

My step mom's Outback was vandalized (along with about a dozen cars on her street) and she got it off with nail polish remover.
That's a bit risky, the stuff is harsh and if you have any scratches it could get under the paint and cause bigger problems. But...it worked perfectly. I told her to wash the car afterwards, but years later it had no undesired effects.
I'd still try milder solutions first.
