Congrats to you and Jennie and both your familes, I'm sure the Grandparents are excited (and can't wait to spoil her!).
You'll get use to the (lack of) sleep and then before you know it they're walking, talking, taking the car, and graduating. Brooke is going to be 6 in May, Brogan will be 4 in June. It goes by quick even though some of those early nights seem to last forever when your baby is awake.
Way to go, man! Best sacrifice you'll ever make. Your personal life will never be the same, but fatherhood has the most incredibly rewarding moments (along with plenty of tribulation!). Watching them grow as you help them develop into real, semi-independent little people instead of "cute" little blobs is amazing. Welcome to your own reality show.
The best advice I can give you and Jennie is "SLEEP WHEN THE BABY SLEEPS." Don't try to get all your chores done while the baby is sleeping. Get your rest first.
Our son Dave has been accepted into two optometry programs, and has interviews for two others. He's been accepted at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philly, Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, and has been invited for interviews in Boston and Chicago.
I think he'll be accepting the Philly school though. So we may may have a doctor in the family!
No idea if i'll make the cut or not, but I was just interviewed by Newsweek. They wanted to talk with me about the cars of my past. Who woulda thunk anyone would be interested in how I survived a '73 Vega?? :shades:
Never had a door fall off, but both rear side windows fell off within a week of each other. Was a hatch and those rear windows were hinged at the front and swung out at the back. The hinges were tabs that were glued to the front edge of the window. I'm going down the highway at about 60 when I suddenly hear this BANG and the air in the car starts to pulsate the way it tends to when you open a rear window. The glue on the tabs failed, the front of the window dropped, then moved out into the slipstream and got flipped out and back and shattered. Made a cardboard window and duct-taped it in place. Before I could get that window replaced, the other one did the same thing the next week within 5 miles of the same spot on the same road.
And it's not really that one car was better. It was that some cars gave you a reason to give other brands a chance.
I'm a good example. The domestics may be just as good a value, just as reliable as my Nissans are and have been. But the Nissans haven't given me any reason to NEED to look elsewhere. If my Versa turns out to be a clunker, then I may look to other pastures.
Same would apply for folks who never had a bad experience with a domestic. Why would they go import?
That's certainly a very high hurdle to overcome. You certainly can't do that overnight.
Time goes by fast. I have been up late for several of the past few nights helping my now 11 year old with her 5th grade science fair project. She has always been interested in my 'talking machines' and has been studying Thomas Edison. So we went with Accoustic Recording and built a hand crank cylinder concept based on Edison's original "Mary had a little lamb" machine. I have been teaching her woodworking, basic mechanics, etc.
My Bad experience with a K car did it for me. Man that car was the worst piece of junk I ever owned. Bought it brand new and had it for seven months. Well my name was on the ownership for 7 months  but after looking at all the repair slips and rental slips, the dealership actually had the damn thing for 4 months After that it was import all the way.
Time does fly. I remember taking my daughter home from the hospital, now I'm helping her learn to ice skate.
Tell you what, I had not been on the ice for about 17 years, I felt like I had to learn to skate again!
A couple of sessions and I'm doing OK, but still nowhere near the skill level I had in high school.
I also need to sharpen my blades. Any recommendations on where to have that done? The rink itself has a pro shop but it never seems to be open when I need it.

Tell me about it. I remember bringing both my kids home. Now my ten year old son is starting his second year of lacrosse and is expected to be a co-captain. He's earning his Webelos badge and has told me that he plans to achieve Eagle. My daughter is now seven and is being recruited by a more competitive gym.
It's amazing to see their accomplishments!!
We went skiing on Monday and my son asked me to snowboard with him. I took a lesson and took a good fall but by the end of the day my son was cheering me on. Kind of cool that Papai was able to do it.
It's not that "old dogs" cannot learn new tricks... it is just a matter of whether we can survive the learning curve! :P
I am sitting here cuddling with my 2.75 y.o. son - he's having a bad day (fever and whatnot). I look down and wonder how nearly 3 years have slipped by already, and yet that is just a drop in the bucket.

Congratulations Colin...! It's always a major milestone in life when you have a new child. I hope I'm not being intrusive butting in here. I hope you still find time to assist people on these boards. Your explanations show a great depth of knowledge and are lucid. I don't know if the regulars here know how much their contributions and assistance is appreciated along with yours. It makes fine and educational reading even for those without problems. I didn't get married and finish college until I was in my late 30's. My son was born when I was in my early 40's. When I went out west a few years ago to attend his wedding, his future brother in law was trying to place me in the proper pew in church. He asked if I was the grooms father or grand father. I still chuckle, but it made me feel a little old. Jim
Thanks Jeff. Yeah, we're all excited. It's taken him a while to figure out what he wanted to do. He's 28, and just entering grad school, and will be 33 before he starts his career in optometry. Better late than never though...
Yeah I'm switching careers at 33. Went on an interview at a fund in CT yesterday. Good fun in the snow. Tires are amazing on the Armada. Not sure if forester owners can get the Bridgestone AT Revos in their size but they were simply amazing in that nasty stuff yesterday.
Was supposed to start on Monday at the new job, back in Desktop support for a different financial firm. But went on an interview yesterday at a Hedge Fund up in CT doing a kind of hybrid IT/Trading position. Lots of change going on!
Going up to CT yesterday must have been loads of fun. My son took a bus to Boston yesterday to visit some friends for the weekend; he left Port Authority bus terminal in Manhattan at 5:15 PM, and finally got to Boston at about 1:30 AM, thanks to the storm!
Congrats! I remember my firstborn, strolling through the hospital corridor with him - he who now is taller than I am & wears larger shoes! Treasure the moments.
Not a bad drive actually. A little slow but otherwise good. I can't say enough good things about the Bridgestone AT Revos that I replaced the stockers on the Armada with!
youngest daughter was just here with her b/f .. she is now wearing an engagement ring with a target date of next march for wedding ... last of the three ...
Looks like we're really on a roll in this thread with all the good news, Brenda! 3rd one married off? ... you've probably got it down to a science by now. Will you be involved in the planning?
Would that be with normal hours up there? Good luck with it!
BTW, I was thinking of you this morning. Driving to the park-n-ride on SI, there was an undercover Dodge Charger car who pulled someone over. Their getting devious on the Island.
Paid off the Evo with a 401k loan so I'm paying myself back instead of the bank-- wasn't a lot, anyway-- and Jen's car payment is about $200 for her '03 Hyundai Sonata which we bought for $9k back in October.

You'll get used to that sleep deprivation thing. Turner Classic Movies helped me a bit. :P

Hope you enjoy fatherhood as much as I have.
We had one. I think the door actually fell off at one point.
Not sure if that's true, I was too young, but a myth like that is something you believe when a car is truly that bad.
I'm convinced that car had a poltergeist! :lemon:

Nah, it's the new 3.6l engine.

i'm not a big 'wedding mama' ...
Or at least a WRX wagon, because Mitsu never offered the EVO wagon over here.
Would that be with normal hours up there? Good luck with it!
