I think Turbo (twin). Can't get my mind off that Blitzen.

Patti? Patti? She's tired of my begging! Come back!

Bob- Thanks for the POI(s). I'll set Annapolis as one of my Waypoints on the way to Baltimore.

Juice- Thanks for the echo-echo-echo... ;-)

Paisan- NC, camping, very tempting. But (a BIG but), I don't think GF will go for it (camping). The Pines Barren trip (that I didn't make) was tough convincing already.

Actually, Annapolis is about 30 - 40 miles south of Baltimore, assuming you're coming from New York. It's still worth the extra drive. It's a really neat place.

Hey, where is Patti? We haven't heard from her in a while. I hope everything's okay. Then again, maybe she's just having too much fun driving that WRX ;-)

NC is this weekend? Have fun, then.

I couldn't have gone anyway - we have tickets to see Saphire the Uppity Blues Women on Saturday night. I'll order some pasta beforehand as a tribute. :-)

Sunday and Monday we'll be at the beach. Probably no driving on the sand this time, though.

    Take those photos to share!

but it's been CRAZY at work. Lot's going on - just not a lot to add here. You folks seem to be moving along fine -- -

Anyway - some information. We'll be launching a new website any day now. Largely due to comments from folks like you all that have been passed on. Will it satisfy everyone?? I doubt it, but it looks good from what I've seen.

Also, not to be a wet blanket, but "officially", nothing has been signed yet about bringing the STI to the U. S. I have no idea where it stands or what the delay in the agreement is, but I'm trying to find out.

Anyway, I'm reading, but not posting much, so - if you need me, let me know.

Heck, you folks even remembered Omar's name!!!

Have a great day. I'm hoping that next week will be a bit more sane than this one. I'm going to try to join the chat tonight, but I have Back to School night for my kids and I'm not sure what time I'll get home.

    Ooooooh I'm dyin' again!

I'll take the sleeper blue sedan above. But the wife may have to drive Sandy. Maybe.

SoA should call the new site www.subaru.com/lucien for all his input. ;-)

because my wheelbarrow fell out of my garage rafters and hit the driver's side front fender a couple days ago. I'm in the process of getting quotes right now. While I'm at it, I'm going to repaint the hood in order to get rid of some rock chips and two spots where the rock deflector has rubbed the paint off over the years. Bummer. Also, an update to my automatic seatbelt ordeal, it worked for a week or so, then bound up in exactly the same spot. Turns out, whereas it was represented to me to be a complete replacement of all parts, the dealership only replaced the motor and cable and not the track, which now appears to have been the problem all along. I guess I can't complain since it was all free, just the hassle of being without a car, etc. Gotta get this thing in tip top shape B4 the B4 gets here. Also need to save money, so I have to get to work.

    Jimmyp1,

I'm sorry, but I can't let a phrase like yours go by without comment. I was happily reading all the great messages this morning, and I come to your wonderful line and I think "oh boy, a tall story". But no. It is really true.

I truly feel for you, with dents and scratches on your fender and hood, and glad that nothing more serious occurred.

But I confess to cracking up whenever I think of your statement "the wheelbarrow fell out of my garage rafters". Really, it is like something out of the Stooges or Marx Brothers - I picture sepia toned images of people moving around at movietone speed, when all of a sudden this construction grade barrow falls in their midst in a cloud of dust and arm waving.

    Maybe it's just me.

My condolences on the need for repairs, all the above offered in fun only.

It is funny that someone remembers that Canada and Spain almost went to war about Turbot. I am sure people didn't think much of it but I was living in Spain at the time and believe me the Spaniards were seriously considering declaring war. All over a fish!!!!

Should we name TURBOTas the biggest example of "Road" Rage?
  • jimmyp1jimmyp1 Member Posts: 640
Trust me, I am now storing mine on a garage wall a safe distance from all cars/trucks. It just fit so nicely with the front wheel up over one of the cross beams. The wife isn't admitting to bumping it, and my three year old isn't tall enough, so I have to blame myself for not thinking it through. :(

Steve: Jimmy's story isn't that farfetched. Our garage has a crawl space above it and, while nothing so heavy as a wheelbarrow goes up there, I do put my Scotts lawn spreader up there during the winter. They used to be metal, but now are almost all plastic except for the handle. I also have some spare sheet metal and wheels for my Studebaker up there, but unless the whole thing collapsed at once they are nowhere near where the car is located.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Time to go secure the wheelbarrows, everyone! ;-)

Kind of made me chuckle too. Mine is hidden behind the shed. Though I have had things in my shed fall in a similar fasion. Last year a ski boot fell down and broke - of all things - my vacuum cleaner!

Hmm, I'm hungry again. Off to get some fried rice.

Send pictures so I can convince the wife why we need a 20 x 20 barn/shed with skylight and heat. :)

Love the Blue one. Appears to have some "BMW" lines along the sides. Ohhh, something to look forward to. Six speed please.

This appears not to be the latest version; the headlights are from the previous model. Also, the grille appears to be an accessory item—and the exhaust might(?) also be an aftermarket item. It looks like a small coffee can.

The wheels look like anthracite versions of the (world-wide, except North America) WRX wheels.

Greg: 20'x20' would be sweet. Estimate the space you need, then triple it. If you think a 6'x8' shed would do, it won't. Mine is 10'x12' and it's full. 2 skylights, storage on upper "attic", and full electrical, yet still not big enough.

Ed- Sory but crawl space above a garage doesn't compute. I know what you mean but, at least in the South, a crawl space is halfway between having a basement and just a slab.

    -Frank P.
  • nygregnygreg Member Posts: 1,936
Your my idol. I was only kidding. I'm thinking about a basic 10x10 (tax reasons). Do you really have skylights?

    Greg
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Yep, two of 'em. :-)

Still, I've stuffed so much stuff in there, you can only see one of them, and partially.

I always joke to my wife that my ideal house would be a fully equipped 3 car garage with a small loft attached to live in.

    -juice
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Frank P. - I grew up in the South and know wherefrom you speak. I spent some time in the crawl space under my parents' house running and connecting ductwork, trying not to brush up against insulation. Right up there with cutting okra in my book.

I consider "crawl space" any area within the framework of the house in which I cannot stand up straight. At 5'7" that makes it pretty low. My garage and two closets which otherwise would qualify as walk-ins fall into that category.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    Ed
  • armac13armac13 Member Posts: 1,129
a crawl space is exactly as Frank defines it. Obviously not just an (American) southern thing.

  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
    Okay, okay, let me rephrase:

"Our garage has a 'floored area with a very low ceiling' above it and, while nothing so heavy as a wheelbarrow goes up there, I do put my Scotts lawn spreader up there during the winter."

My wife calls it a crawl space and, since I can't stand up straight in it I have to crawl around in most places.

A friend sent me this. It has nothing to do with Subaru. Sorry.

How should Osama Ben Laden be dealt with?

Killing him will only create a martyr.
Holding him prisoner will inspire his comrades to take hostages to demand his release.
Therefore I suggest we do neither.

Let the SAS, Seals or whomever covertly capture him, fly him to an undisclosed hospital and have surgeons quickly perform a complete sex change operation. Then we return 'her' to Afghanistan to live under the Taliban.

while I was lying in a bed in a hospital in Bahrain a few years ago, the doctors were talking about how some Saudi surgeon who had been British trained was being stripped of his board certification. Apparently when a criminal gets his/her hand cut off over in Saudi its a surgical procedure and done very professionally to allow a prosthesis to be put on. They don't just lop it off with a sword in some public square , unlike when they execute you an dtake your head off! The Brits were apparently very upset about this fella and told this surgeon to stop doing it as it just wasn't cricket for a genetleman to do this. Especially a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. He refused so they revoked his certification!!

Just got back from our 2k+ road trip. We left 9/15 and did a lot of camping on the eastern side of the Sierras and then the north coast / Humboldt county area. Great weather. Great time. Our 01 GT wagon performed flawlessly and averaged a bit over 28mpg. Spent the better part of a week looking at homes in the Eureka/Arcata area. Anyone live there? We love it up there and this is the first shot at looking for a home. Found a great 1950's ranch on 2 wooded (redwood) lots in a nice neighborhood but can't decide to make an offer.
Also, if anyone ever is staying in Eureka (before we move there cuz after you can stay with us) the Eureka Inn is excellent. Built in the 1920's it is a historic old hotel with 4 floors, a huge 2 story lobby with giant fireplace and big old leather chairs. Classic old place and it takes dogs! Not particularliy cheap at $99 but not much more than the Comfort Inn and a lot more character.

    More later...

Looks like I'll be getting a 2nd XT6. 105K, 5-speed, center locker. Only bad part is it needs a head gasket. But Hopefully will be picking it up for around $300-$500.

I stopped by a Nissan dealer today to check out the new Altima, when a salesman comes up to me and says, "Hi, welcome to Nissan West, my name is Bob, what's yours?" I replied, "ditto."

So we're talking for about 15 minutes or so, and as I was about to leave, the salesman said to me, "Well it was a real pleasure to meet you Ditto. Come back again soon."

BTW, the new Altima has just about everything but AWD, and it's a real looker to boot. It's also very roomy.

I love the way the cruise control buttons are arranged on the steering wheel. Even the CC on/off switch is incorporated into the "set/cancel/accel/resume unit. It's a very intelligent solution that Subaru should adopt. The other side of the steering wheel has the audio and trip computer controls—again a very smart solution.

it's a real looker ditto, Ditto.

Externally, it looks quite large. I caught a quick glance of one, thought it was a Maxima.

I removed the Yakima Q Tower & cross bars from the GT wagon. Schweet.

It is large—110" wheelbase, which is about the size of a BMW 5-Series or MB E-Class.

In my previous life, I thought I had just about heard it all! Anyway, just a thought, what is the most weird or strange incident (not necessarily an accident) that damaged your car?

I was once in a work car parked down by the ocean watching a guy fly his radio controlled glider. You got it, he lost control and the glider came crashing into the front of my parked car. He was only worried about the fact that he required a garbage bag for all the pieces. I, on the other hand, was greatly concerned about the large dent in the front hood and just how I was going to explain it to my boss. Of course, my fellow members were quite understanding and hardly ever mentioned it.

    Cheers,

    Tom

    Ditto! ROFL!

Went to the dealer for service today and had to finally drive a Rex instead of ride in it.
It was an automatic, but still very impressive coming from 137 HP. The turbo lag doesn't last that long and when it kicks in, HOLD ON!
I think this demo model had been thrashed. It was hard to put the gear selector into "1".

A salesguy I spoke with said they can't keep up the wagon demand and it has caught everyone by surprise. I asked the dealer President if he thought there would be a demand for the STi. His reply was, "Definitely." Ok, SoA. If you bring it, they will buy it.

I hung out with a British co-worker over the weekend. He had a little chuckle looking into my blocked off hood scoop. :-)

Ditto oh, I mean Bob - Thanks for the tips for my MD trip - just got back and enjoyed the stay.
Strangely, I only got 22mpg on this trip, and that burning rubber odor is still present.
Anyway, the drive down in my '98 OB was pretty smooth with light traffic until I got to S. Eutaw St. where the hotel is at. Gee I picked a great day to arrive, Orioles are playing at home. And [a big "AND"] as I'd found out later, twas Cal Ripken's 3001 and last game. Can I say I was there? ;-)
Seafood is great too! I especially liked Bo Brook's (@ Canton). Girlfriend ate away at the steamed crabs [guess she loved it]. Phillips @ Harborplace wasn't too bad, just thought they over did on salting everything and the pianist there that Saturday night, he was killing me [not softly] with his songs.
Hey, the water taxi rides are fun to get around to all the places of interest.
Annapolis, well, I think I missed out on alot. There was a boat show going on Sunday and people everywhere.

    -Dave
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Glad you enjoyed the trip. :) I watched Cal's last game on TV, along with all the ceremonies too. Sounds like you hit all the good spots.

Hmmm... I'm getting hungry with all this talk of seafood. ;)
