    Mark Lovell bio:

    After an 8-year absence from rallying, Mark Lovell crosses the Atlantic in 2001 to make his debut in the SCCA ProRally series. Hailing from Axbridge, Sommerset England, Loveall brings 22 years of racing experience, wins in 7 different countries, 200 plus starts and 6 championships to the Subaru team. His goals for the season are nothing but ambitious: "I want to win the Championship."


    Lovell's entry into rallying was as much luck as it was fate. In 1980, Lovell answered an ad on the back of a TV Times Guide seeking a young British rally driver. After beating out 15,000 applicants, Lovell secured a one year ride with Ford and David Campion. Lovell later drove professionally for Ford, Nissan, Citroen and Toyota. When he's not rallying, Lovell is busy playing squash and riding horses in his native England.

    From my understanding this will be done in the special format to accomodate a large chat crowd. There should be an official announcement and more info on the Town Hall front page by next Tuesday.

    This Sunday, 1pm at Dave & Busters in Bethesda (White Flint Mall), MD, there will be a huge meet with 50 or more Subies.

    You've got a whole day to yourself! The SO is out of town (same here) so no having to come up with excuses to basically show up and check out a bunch of really cool cars for no justifiable reason!

    It's like having a get out of jail free card that expires Monday.

    Sorry for the delay in the weather report - darn students wanted to talk with me for some reason. ;~) 15 and mainly sunny right now. It was pouring this morning so the weather front must be moving really quickly.

    Less than 48 hours after getting my '00 Forester back with new water pump, head and water pump gaskets, another problem has arisen. As I pulled into my driveway at home, I found that I cannot turn the ignition key into the full off position, nor can I remove said key from the ignition switch. In addition, the horn no longer sounds when I press the horn button, leading me to believe that something has gone awry in the steering column.

    Before anyone asks the obvious question, yes the car is an AT, yes it is in park, and yes, the parking brake is activated.

    I just got off the phone with Subaru roadside assistance (800-SUBARU3), which could only offer to tow the car to the dealership - not to send someone out to extricate the key from the ignition.

    Patti - I know I'm supposed to call you re the gaskets issues, but I hope you will be on the chat board in 30 minutes so we can discuss this issue.

    I have no idea what my next step is, but rest assured I will be spending this Saturday doing some comparison shopping.

    I got home later than I thought I would. Good news is that this is the last week for cheerleading activities.

    Ed - What the heck?? I have no idea how this could happen? The work that the dealer did should have had no impact on the steering column. I'll call Colonial first thing this morning.

    Cross-post from Gen'l Maint/Repair:

    Well crew, here's the diagnosis in a nutshell:

    The bolt holding the horn and its ground wire to the body worked loose, allowing the horn to short out and blow its fuse. The horn fuse also controls the shift interlock. A tightened bolt and a 15-amp fuse and all is right again.

    Sorry to be so jumpy. Only 4 weeks back and I may need another vacation.

    Hope that time will calm your nerves and allow you to fully trust your car again. It is unnerving.

    Sorry all (again) for last night. Had a business dinner. I will not be there the next two weeks either.

    Got my LLBean floor mats for the OB. I'll put them in tonight and let you know how they are. They looked good in the LLBean OB in the catalogue.

    Figured it was a shift interlock problem when you could not remove the key.

    Glad it was something minor. Even better that it was something you were able to find and fix.

    I can understand being touchy after having a repair headache. Hopefully, it'll be smooth sailing from here.

    Ken - glad to see you're still out here. I'm going ahead with the Speedline/Prodrive P7 install in the spring - then off to explore opportunities to improve my tarmac driving skills. Count on pix once I make the swap.

    I'll be going to Da Big Meet early. My brother is in a play that starts at 2pm, so I'll have to leave at about 1:45 (it's close). So I'll probably go around noon to chat with the early birds.

    Boy I'm sore. 2 days straight painting. Pass the ibuprofen. Looks great, though.

    How is this Subie related? Well, Sandy hauled all the paint home. She gets a wash tomorrow before the meet.

    Although Edmunds doesn't have a name change function, I no longer would like to be known as the "Knights that go NEEEEEEE!".


    I picked up my blue WRX Wagon w/automatic( No flames, please), security system upgrade, armrest extension, air filtration, wheel locks, and rear bumper cover, on Saturday...flew up to Tampa, and was picked up in Pete Mastro's WRX sedan ( you can see it on http://www.mastrowrx.com/ go to the gallery ). Mastro is a great place to deal with and made the experience easy. I would recommend them to everybody.

     

    Driving home was great...I took it easy, staying between 60 - 70 mph most of the way, varying speeds constantly, and never going above 3500 RPM, which with the automatic is approximately 75 or so (mostly beacuse of the Florida Highway Patrol). What a great car....comfortable, easy to drive. Susan and Michael were thrilled. Susan wants to drive it already! Yesterday morning, I cleaned off all the bugs from the front end...did you know that dead bugs stink?

    Anyway, the drive home was 275.5 miles, so almost a third of breakin period is done with.

    For the next week or so, until I sell my uncle's 99 Camry (he had a stroke and can't drive anymore). the WRX will sit in the garage (and believe me, that is difficult enough!). We will take pics soon, and they will be posted.

    Congratulations on your new WRX. Is it going to have a name? I hope the Camry sells soon - seems a shame to let a REX languish in the garage.

    It will have a name eventually...not sure of its' gender yet! The 90 Camry Wagon was sold this weekend. My uncle's car is a 99 with only 11,000 miles on it...it should sell fairly easily...if not, I will take it to Carmax.

    OT, but anyone see Harry Potter this weekend? My wife's company had rented out the IMAX theatre at the Sony Metreon and gave out free tickets and concessions.

    While a movie will probably never do justice to the original book, it came pretty close, IMO.

    I'm jealous! My kids have been giving me dirty looks all weekend because we didn't have the time to see Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Hagrid. (Yes, we've all read the books. Daughter has read the last one twice!) Hopefully, we'll get to the theater this weekend.

    sick of seeing that rip-off Acura commerical with the guy ripping through the gears and curves? I keep hoping that he will look up into the rear view mirror and see a WRX on his bumper, flashing the lights for him to move over!

    It's great to see everyone still here. I haven't been in the Town Hall for more than a month and miss it! Ever since returning from vacation in early October we have been busy prepping our house for sale and have had no free time to get online. We had an open house on 11/4 got 4 offers and sold it on 11/7. We close 12/7 and move to Eureka (CA) on 12/10. Been up there a number of time looking for a house to buy but for now we are renting. Lots of Soobies in Eureka and a dealer. Anyone here live in Eureka?
    Just passed 10k on my 01 GT wagon and still love it. Lots of road trips and average 28+MPG on the road. Have a little first use stutter in the clutch engagement occasionally but nothing alarming. Love the 5 speed... it is so smooth.
    Pat - sorry but I probably won't be able to post the seatback pocket instructions until after we move.

    Serge - Congratulations!

    Keep us posted on your comments and your fun. I've meet Andy from the i-club (pic in Mastro's gallery). He drove his RS from upstate NY to Tampa, traded it for the WRX and drove back to NY.

    Ed - I believe there are autocrosses at Nazareth Speedway in PA. In Central NJ, there's Englishtown. I believe most places have auto-x intro classes at the beginning of each season.

    Bit, was glad to see your post here today,I am glad the house moved so quickly, that must be a load off your mind, I also hope that your move goes smoothly and that you quickly find a home that you like.

    Post the instructions when you have the time I know that you are busy at the moment, we hope you soon have the time to post on a regular basis again your wit is missed here.

    Does anyone have some sense of what kind of pricing is available on the WRX wagons? One dealer acted like it was doing me a favor for not charging above sticker, but another offered $1000 over invoice (plus a BS $399 dealer prep fee) and a third offered 3% over invoice with a $199 dealer prep fee (but is 600 miles from me).

    I don't need to squeeze them down to the last penny (although that would be nice). I just want to walk away knowing I got a fair deal. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    I just picked up my WRX Wagon from Mastro Subaru in Tampa...well worth the drive or flight up there (SouthWest Airlines always has cheap flights there..currently $30 one-way from FLL to Tampa). I am in Coral Springs, and the three dealers here (Accardi, Lehman, and Delray), are not willing to deal very much. Mastro has a good supply, and you should be able to do maybe $200-400 over invoice, especially if you do a factory order.
