    1) Yes

    2) Yes - used to this feature from my history with Ford products. Helped me get thru Potsdam, NY winters in the middle '70's.

Ken - finally saw Harry Potter, and liked it too. The coolest part was the moving portraits, followed closely by the chess match.

You know you're a car guy when you watch the movie and you notice the cars not sold here. I think I spotted an Opel Vectra and a bunch of Ford Mondeo wagons.

Sounds like Jeff Foxworthy. OK, Crew, finish this sentence:

You know you're a car person when...

You notice the car before anything else.

...you remember people by what car they drove.
...you can list horsepower figures for any car on the road.
...you have a tire pressure guage in each car you own.
...you are a member of the OCD club.
...you belong to the Subaru Crew!

Well guys we have had freezing rain here since the early hours of this morning and it is forcast to go right through until tomorrow night.

Looks like we are in for another freaking ice storm,18 below celcius with the wind chill not fit for man or beast.

Ross do you want this weather you are welcome to it.

    Cheers Pat.

Guilty on all counts, when my wife asks me do you know such and such my first question is, what kind of car do they drive?

    Cheers Pat.

You skip a trip to the Tower of London to visit a Subaru dealer to sit in (not even drive) an Impreza P1.

but I think I'll pass for the nonce. The rain has gone for now, it's 4 degrees Celsius, sunny and windy as all get-out. A perfect fall day. Now if you get some nice fluffy snow,... :~)

Ed: good one! I spent my last day in Brazil looking for a Subaru dealer, but it turns out they don't have one in Recife.

Watch out for freezing rain, zero traction is zero traction no matter how much technology you throw at it.

"You know you're a car person" when you give directions and refer to the car dealerships as "landmarks."

freezing rain isn't so bad with studs. modern studless winter tires have OK traction on ice too, as long as you drive cautiously.

    Weather update

My office overlooks the parking lot and the wind is so strong that it has just set off what seems like dozens of car alarms (I'm sure it's really only a few). Since I can't focus on marking anyway, it's a great excuse to check the boards. ;~)

    your wife says.."Speedvision AGAIN??!!!"
  • hammersleyhammersley Member Posts: 684
Our snow of yesterday has transformed to rain, making for a soggy, wet, sloppy mess. A chance of more white and/or wet in the forecast, though, so all may not be completely lost!

2 birthdays in the house this weekend - oldest (10) & youngest (4) - so between those & all the other normal (?) stuff that goes on here, I may not get in here much til next week.

    Have a great weekend, all!
    Cheers!

In DC, though, stud-ded tires are as rare as Stud-ebakers. Right, Lark? ;-)

My wife says "Motorweek again?" but that's a good one.

I've seen more Stude-bakers in and around DC than stud-ded tires. I know of a few nice ones in VA and MD, and there's a guy in Annapolis who has pretty much become a broker of Avantis and lesser models. He maintains http://www.stude.com.

Will do my best to make the chat though I don't know if I can ask an intelligent question of Mr. Lovell, other than "Should Cherokee Trails become part of the WRC circuit?"

...you can name a car by seeing the curve of only one fender flash across the screen while watching a movie.

OK, only works for some cars, but you have to admit its a useless ability!

At 9:03 PM, I was informed the Chat Room was closed. Does this mean it's "filled?"

Try again Don, I'm over there in a separate instance.

    edit: Yes, it was.

Bummer, there is a bit of a lag, so reading the transcript actually won't be a whole lot different.

He's talking about giraffes, falling 300 ft down a cliff, and all kinds of cool stuff...

I got shunted over to some side room that wasn't moderated or anything. Just me and 1subydown wondering what the hell was going on...

Loosh- at least 1suby and you knew where y'all were. I didn't even know where I was. Kept trying to get in, but knocked out each time.
    Only blurp I saw was:
Lovell- we also do appearances...(something like that). Hmmm didn't even know there were rooms.

but I couldn't find any of you folks. I did see Ed's question, but that was it. I then got "the boot". It looked like it was going well while I was in there.

Well, at least I got to ask one question. :) Then I waited over 3/4s of an hour to ask my second question—and then ran out of time. :(

Other than that, it was fun an interesting. Gotta hand it to Mark for taking part in this at 2:00 - 3:00 AM UK time. I think I'd rather be sleeping.

What's this I hear about people in other chat rooms? In our room, there were about 3 or 4 of us from the "Crew." I was surprised there weren't more, but it sounds like like everybody else was put in a different chat room...

    Bob
  • Karen_SKaren_S Member Posts: 5,092
I was in the "main" room for a bit, but took off so someone else could get in. There were 120+ in attendance at last night's chat. With that many people, not everyone is going to get their question answered. When a room gets to capacity, a new room pops up to accomodate them. The questions and answers should have still been broadcast across all the rooms. Did this not happen?

I'm waiting for info about the transcript now.

Also, our N&V host, pf_flyer/Bob, had a huge role in last night's chat. If you want a more detailed explanation of how the chat was conducted, read Bob's message in Talk to the Hosts in News & Views.

he started driving off-road at the age of 8. Susan told me not to mention that to Michael, or else we might find him driving the wagon around the neighborhood one afternoon (he can reach the pedals with the seat forward all the way!)

Great turnout last night for Mark Lovell! He enjoyed it a LOT, which is saying something considering that it was 3AM for him when the chat ended!

    Thanks again for the turnout!

Don - I did that exact thing over Thanksgiving weekend. I took a different route to my uncle's house in MD and my relatives asked which way I went. I said, "We came down Rt. 40 and made a right just after the Subaru dealer." Of course they all just laughed when I said that because they know I'm a nut.

Last night was the wife's birthday, so I didn't make the chat. I should've told her the chat would've been a great present for her.

Folks it's a done deal. There is no more Speedvision. It's "All NASCAR All the Time" They moved the headquarters to Greenville, NC which is Redneck Heaven I mean NASCAR Center of the Universe. Look 'ma and 'pa I can make left turns!

    So sad. :-(
I hounded my cable company for months with phone calls and emails and finally got Speedvision last year.

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
"All NASCAR All the Time" was to be just one program on Speed Vision, not the whole channel. Has that changed?

    Bob
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
If you believe that it isn't going to be NASCAR 24x7 with a few other good-ole-boy shows, I've got a bridge to sell you! Oh they might show some re-runs of The Dukes of Hazzard too!

  • twrxtwrx Member Posts: 647
I don't tink we will see all NASCAR all the time on the new Speed Channel (Speedvision's new name) or there will be a serious lawsuit. They are contracted next year to carry the majority of the CART open wheel races and qualification and practice sessions too. Actually I am looking forward to FOX control of them. ABC/ESPN shoved CART off for every golf tournament that they could. FOX had much better coverage of NASCAR than NBC and I really think they will do the same with all forms of racing. After all the NASCAR races are broadcast on open broadcast FOX and they have FX too.

Interesting post on the i-club, especially SubyTechMaster's comments about 1,2 and R. I think he's Ed from ISR Performance.

Patti, this one directed more toward you than the Crew in general: Who gets to drive cars equipped with vehicle manufacturer's license plates? Employees? The motoring press? Others?

I ask because I was passed by and followed a new wintergreen H6 OB wagon with NJ manfuacturer's plates (##-DTM) on the way to work this morning. It was in front of me for about a mile then turned off by the middle school nearest our house. I did not see whether it was a VDC or L.L.Bean model.

Just curious more than anything else. If it's an SoA employee then that tells me they probably commute to Cherry Hill.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I belive all the cars owned by SOA can wear mfg plates. I think they exempt them from emissions, and can be transferred from car to car, etc.

Well another miserable freezing rain day in Ottawa, the poor old spruce and pine trees look really sad, the branches all drooping on the ground from the weight of the ice.

Supposed to warm up slightly over the weekend, anything will be better than this crap.

    Cheers Pat.
