Hope they get you fixed up Mike. Always something going on with you! A couple years ago I woke up in the middle of the night thinking I was having a heart attack I was in so much pain. Turnout out to be an attack of Sciatica. that was bad enough, can't imaging going through that many disk issues.

It’s not just the back pain, it’s what the back pain causes in terms of nerve pain down my legs.

I’ll find out more from the surgeons tomorrow when they stop over to see me here at the hospital. In the meantime, I am getting medication for the pain in the form of muscle relaxants and analgesics.

Liberty Mutual still has not spoken to bus driver.

I have a friend that is a state policeman and he is not surprised at the delay - he says the same thing happens with their auto insurance.

We just filed on our insurance and picked up a car the same day.

@abacomike, wish you the best and keep us informed. If you need surgery, see if you’re a candidate for a minimally invasive spine procedure. People I’ve known have gotten almost immediate relief of pain following the surgery, so there’s something to be said for it if recommended.

Been suffering with chronic back pain for years due to my accident at work. Have 2 herniated discs in my neck and 2 in my lower spine. Surgery is not an option sadly and have gone through all the epidural and injections. The stenosis doesn't help I'm guessing and sometimes, the sciatica pain is off the chart! Luckily, I've got a great pain doctor who keeps me functioning with a couple of opiads, would love oxycotin but my insurance company is saying no. I use a cane 24/7 as my balance was compromised in the accident and I feel like I have to fall without it. It has changed our lives to be honest and they just let me be when the pain is off the charts, best for me to just lie down if possible.
No longer use the implanted battery in my butt area and might have to check into having it removed one day soon. It worked nicely at first but over time, not so much. Must admit, that after over 16 years of dealing with the chronic pain, I'm so over it but what choice do I really have. I want to live my life so I do with some help!

Our sprinkler controller was all messed up when I first tried to use it. I set everything to the A program but didn’t realize it had entries on the B and C. It kept turning on at all hours on different zones. Finally ended up deleting everything and starting from scratch.

I’m watering every other day at 30 mins a zone. Seems to be working. Between that and the treatments it’s decent now. Back yard needs a lot of work (half is nice) but the front is good.

Still waiting for orthopedic surgeon to come in to see me at the hospital. Son and daughter called me - they want to involve themselves in the decision as to whether or not to surgically correct bulging discs.

The surgeon may even discharge me if he thinks correcting the problem by surgery would not be an option with my medical history. Who knows? 😩😤

Doubt they'll do anything right now, but they need to get the pain under control. Just take it easy and go slow once you return home. Like I said, I've got a fantastic pain doctor in Sunrise, his office is in the old Health South facility on Pine Island and 44th Street. Without his help, I couldn't hold down my job and would be home 24/7. With his guidance, got my life back and am very happy about that, he helped make life worth living again after going through a deep depression.

The waiting gets old, doesn't it? I was in the hospital twice last year, 6 days and then 5 days. The first time I was so sick I slept about 20 hours a day, but the second time the time really dragged. Hopefully they're giving you good pain meds and you're catching up on your sleep.

I had a follow up visit with my cardiologist today, spent better than 3.5 hours sitting around waiting, finally got fed up and just walked out. "She'll be here very soon I'm sure." Yeah, right. Unfortunately for you, you don't have that option. Which is why I'm hoping you're getting a lot of sleep.

Was in the hospital for 14 days back in 2018 when I had my gall bladder removed, came within a day of death the doctors said. The gall stones eventually gave me sepsis, pneumonia and jaundice and I passed out in the house a few times. My thinking it was the flu made me refuse going to see a doctor. After finally passing out in the kitchen at like 4 in the morning gave my wife the only thing she could do, and that was call the paramedics. Was a pretty scary time and seems I passed out in the hospital while hooked up to my i.v.'s as I had to go to the bathroom. No recollection of that or even getting a cat scan to check for any damages.
Once they removed my gall bladder, I slowly got better but took over a month to get back to me. Needless to say, I'll no longer be stubborn about my health!

When hemp oil became legal to grow many farmers jumped onto that band wagon. In our travels we’ve passed many fields with what looked like marijuana plants growing. These were non THC containing hemp.

Didn’t matter to some people and many a field was stripped in the middle of the night by morons who thought they hit the jackpot.

I’ll buy mine in the store.

Got to drive the Bronco Sport at work today. Short shuttle drive from the airport so it was a cursory look but I wasn’t real impressed. It must have had the 1.5L turbo because it wasn’t unusually fast. Interior was average plastic cheapness. It felt roomy inside.

I’m looking forward to a longer trip.

I saw one in the gas line last week so think they are few and far between right now. I know we haven't gone to 5th Street, where we pick up the new vehicles that just came in, in about two weeks now and then, only picked up a couple of vehicles to go to the gas line. It's been a long while that the 5th Street lot was full like it usually is. Luckily, we've been working till about 5 and 5:30 most days so no complaints there. Last Monday, we got off about 4:30, an early day for us, but things are picking up a bit. Thee next few weeks will get a bit busy as July 4th will be here and many firms down here close down for that week...many close the week of July 4th and the last week of the year since they are almost six months apart and folks are ready to get away and relax a bit. I've always had a job where I don't get to take those weeks off for some reason but not really an issue for us.

I thought that too so I popped the hood to see. All it said on the engine cover was ‘ecoboost’. The seats were cloth and while there was a spot in the headliner for a sunroof, this one just had a cloth panel.

I looked up the specs and the 1.5L supposedly has 181hp which should be enough. I wonder what the weight of this car is. Maybe it’s too porky.

Rental car companies don’t necessarily buy just strippers any more. I think they look at what options make for maximum profit vs cost at resale. My company seems to get a lot of mid level trims with a smattering of high end and low end at the edges.

Do you think the manufacturers have learned that they should get the rental companies to buy models with upgrades? If I am impressed with a rental car there is a chance I would buy one....I've had some rentals I really liked. There aren't too many stripper rentals I have had that I would consider buying, they turn me off. Throwing in a few creature comforts could pay off....and they should make the car more saleable down the road.

Funny how things can be different - my rental experiences in Europe have seen more somewhat loaded cars than in the US. Especially if one rents a "premium" level or above, it will be a fairly optioned car - probably as options help in short term resale. I've also had USDM rentals that appeared to effectively be zero option - an Impala and 300 come to mind. Even USDM premium or above generally (although there can be exceptions) are not loaded, but there can be exceptions.

I think there are a lot of different factors involved in what gets sold to rental companies. I’m sure the negotiation involves people on both sides determining what is the most profitable features for each of them. Sometimes it may be as simple as the manufacturer has a lot full of surplus and offer the rental company a good price to get rid of them.

I travel frequently and rent cars. I think putting the basic features including backup camera, blind spot, and even lane assist is okay. Other upgrade including nice rims are probably overkill. Most rental cars have stain on seats and scratches all over including rims. I think buying vehicles with the bare essentials is the best way to go.

I have purchased two ex-rental vehicles. When I purchased the 2016 Town and Country, it was one year old and 35k miles, ex Enterprise rental. Back then (January of 2017) there were a lot of one year old T&C ex-rental units on the market. The last day of negotiations, I had 3 units lined up, at 3 different new car dealerships on their used car lot. All within about 3 miles down the same freeway. I spent the best part of a day driving back and forth, looking, talking, thinking. There was a wide discrepancy in cost and condition, and I wound up buying the nicest one even though it was the most expensive and needed tires.

Jump forward 4 years, and I purchased the 2019 Pacifica directly from Hertz. They had 4 Pacifica's at the same lot, all 2019, all with +/- 61k miles. Price spread of $1.5k, and very different condition. I picked the nicest one, even though I knew it needed brake work. But I can fix brakes, body work I can't do, and I don't know much about replacing broken interior panels or stained carpets. Surprisingly, the nicest one wasn't the most expensive, and I have no idea why.

Neither of the ex-rental units I purchased had stains on the seats or carpets, broken interior pieces, or curb rash on the wheels. Most of the units I looked at, yes. You just have to be a diligent shopper, and be willing to spend the time, energy and effort to keep looking until you find the right one.

Basically, I am agreeing with your point. Most ex-rental cars are not in "clean" condition when it comes time to re-sell, especially given that the rental companies are keeping the cars for much longer.

I have been thinking about upgrading the wheels on this 2013 F150 XL work truck. I was trying to decide if I would get the money back, or at least most of it, when I resell in a year or so. In most cases, I would think so. But this is a work truck, and if I sell it to someone looking for a work truck, they absolutely may not care about the wheels.

Hard to say though. There is one guy shows up occasionally at the home construction site across the street, I think he is doing HVAC duct work, but I’m not sure. He drives a late model Chevy Silverado 2500 HD, clean and shiny, at least $60k new, probably more. But most of the trucks and vans I see over there are ratty at best.

Have you noticed that Craigslist now has a section devoted to “wheels and tires”? Looking through there, you can buy a set of wheels and new tires (takeoffs) for less than what the new tires would cost you. You can also pay an exorbitant amount for the wheels that are in vogue right now. Which primarily means black, and I don’t much care for black, so I would be happy buying their chrome-clad wheels which came on their new truck.

I’m leaning towards leaving it alone. The tires on my truck are almost new, and there is nothing wrong with the wheels (other than being very plain). I was trying to remember the last time I owned a vehicle with plain steel wheels, and it has been a while. At least they don’t have ridiculous plastic wheel covers.

How much would new wheels run you? If they're lighter than the steelies you might see an incremental improvement in fuel economy by reducing the unsprung weight.

I sometimes look at pickups and wonder if I had a certain kind of business, such as a lawn cutting business, would that truck suit me? I think your truck looks solid (might be a false impression) and well cared for. It also looks basic and utilitarian. If I was starting a business or just need a basic pickup that is exactly what I would want to buy. Fancy wheels would make me a bit suspicious, and I wouldn't want to spend more just to get nicer wheels. OTOH, if you want nice wheels because you want your truck to look sharper then go for it.......you might as well enjoy what you drive to the max. Fixing up a home or a car or truck for resale could be a mistake, let the buyer pay less and do what he wants to do.

uhhh... Not my picture, not my house, not my roof. I just used a picture from the original Craigslist ad because I was too lazy to go outside and take a picture showing what the wheels looked like. My house has a plain asphalt shingle roof (no idea if nail guns were used), and the roof is original to the 16 year old house and will need replacement fairly soon.

"Fixing up" a home or a car for resale is a bit of a gamble. Do or don't, it all depends on whether you can find a buyer who wants what you have for sale. Back in 1999 I sold a house in one day for the asking price, and the market wasn't particularly "hot" at the time. I even listed the house at $4k more than the realtor suggested, and it still sold on the first day. The key here was that the house was completely redone, new paint inside and out, new carpet and tile on all floors, new garage doors painted to match the house trim. The house was empty, completely ready for the new buyers. And the buyers wanted a place ready to go, right now, today as they had sold their old home and most of their belongings were in storage. I think we set some kind of record for how fast you could close a home sale. The buyers showed up at the closing with a U-Haul moving van loaded with their furniture.

As to the truck and being "well cared for", that is a bit of a mixture. The oil change was fairly recent, and the air filter was clean. Tires fairly new, and the brakes still good ( 6mm front, 8mm rear). But there was a coolant leak (well known problem with o-rings in the radiator hoses on that model). And it was obvious that the truck had not had a good wash (never mind wax) in years, maybe not in it's entire life. The fact that the paint was still in good shape under the embedded grime is a testament to how good today's factory paint and clear coat have become.

I wish I had a picture, but I'll try to describe what I'm talking about. The hood has "creases" on each side, running from the front to the back. When I went to look at the truck, as I walked up to it, it looked like there was rust in those creases. I looked closer, wet my finger, and rubbed hard. Not rust, embedded grime. The truck had been washed, but not really cleaned. And not for years. When I washed the truck the first time, that grime did not come off. It took some time, polish, and elbow grease to get rid of that grime. But the paint looks good now, especially for an 8 year old neglected truck. Part of that I am attributing to the color, white. White paint in my experience holds up better than most other colors.

Take the stock wheels and get them chrome dipped.

I’m leaning towards leaving it alone. The tires on my truck are almost new, and there is nothing wrong with the wheels (other than being very plain). I was trying to remember the last time I owned a vehicle with plain steel wheels, and it has been a while. At least they don’t have ridiculous plastic wheel covers.

I thought those were ridiculous plastic wheel covers.

Have you noticed that Craigslist now has a section devoted to “wheels and tires”? Looking through there, you can buy a set of wheels and new tires (takeoffs) for less than what the new tires would cost you. You can also pay an exorbitant amount for the wheels that are in vogue right now. Which primarily means black, and I don’t much care for black, so I would be happy buying their chrome-clad wheels which came on their new truck.

Actually, JMonroe may have a point, nice strongly designed wheels may toughen the look of the truck up!

Craigslist, OfferUp, Facebook marketplace has to have plenty of OEM F150 wheels for sale.

I’d change them out. Keep them and if you sell the truck either sell them or the nicer set.

Had the cracks in the driveway filled and the whole thing sealed.
Nice to have it looking refreshed after 20+ years.
