"Vishnu now has an alternative for those who are less interested in tuning the car themselves. This alternative, known as ECUTEK, is actually a piece of software which allows Vishnu to "reflash" the stock WRX ECU using a laptop computer through the OBD-II diagnostic port. ECUTEK software allows control over every detail of Subaru's highly advanced engine management."
Ecutek is sold by several tuners. You remove your ECU and send it to them. They reflash it with new parameters, and mail it back to you.
You can read more about it at cobbtuning.com, rallyperformance.com and rallispec.com just to name a few.

I just got this for my car.....this is simply amazing !

Have you had a chance to use it yet? How accurate is it? Do you download the route before you leave or does it store info for a city at a time?

TWRX
Bought it on yahoo shopping for $799, It also has 100 rebate.
It downloads maps by region, east us & west us. It has SD 64mb card which did all new england. You can expand with a 256mb which should accomodate all of US.
Very accurate, it looks like a laptop screen. It fits securely on windshield so that driver does not have to take his/her eyes away.

It is the Gold Std. of all GPS ! It is very sturdy, well-lit buttons in the night to use, Clear Voice instructions...I am simply amazed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I confused the systems by making wrong turns......it worked just GREAT !

Most definetly yes -- it's a gadget. Also, if you set the Nav system before driving, it's giving you directions vs. having to admit defeat and pulling over to ask for them.

I think it's better looking than the wide-body sedan.
Bob
The narrow body makes the sedan look longer -- more akin to a Legacy.

SUBARU REPORTS BEST SALES MONTH IN COMPANY'S HISTORY
-- Forester sales up 22 percent; Baja sets record high--
CHERRY HILL, N.J., September 3, 2003 -- Subaru of America, Inc., the only car company that offers symmetrical all-wheel drive as standard equipment on every vehicle in its product line, reported August sales of 19,879 units. The total represents the best sales month in the company's 35 year history, breaking the previous record set in 1987. Forester sales for August were also up 22 percent from last year, and Baja set a record high total for the month.
"We are extremely pleased to report the best sales month in our company's history," said Fred Adcock, Executive Vice President, Subaru of America, Inc. "Consumers continue to recognize the clear advantage and premium brand offering that Subaru brings to the market. Such success would not have been possible without the outstanding performance and dedication of the Subaru dealer organization."
The Subaru Forester recorded sales of 6,317 units, a 22 percent increase from August 2002. The Legacy model line achieved a sales total of 8,745 units, while the Subaru Outback recorded sales of 6,038 units for the month. The Impreza line recorded sales of 3,548 units for August, while Baja posted its best ever month at 1,269 units.

Subaru has been the best-selling import wagon in America for the past 20 years, based on R.L. Polk & Company new vehicle retail registration statistics calendar year-end 2002.
Wished it had been available 4yrs ago.
To store the entire US, I think you would need 512mb, maybe more.
Detailed street level NJ/NY metro on the StreetPilot chomps 60% of 64mb.
Dang, I'll be a happy puppy if Garmin offers a 256mb mem chip.

Forester outsold the Outback again, that's only happened a couple of times. Baja sales woke up a little, prolly incentives did that.

The unit I am looking into is the new Garmin iQue3600 -- it's a Palm PDA with built in GPS; the best of both worlds. And you can get the unit for as little as $450.

It uses SD memeory. It should fit nicely into the 2005 Legacy:-)

I like the Navman Maps better......see the one can be used on Ipaq or palm

Things to note:
* Outback 2.5 has dark 2-tone cladding, and is not monotone. This model also has wheels from the current Outback.
* There appears to be no badging indicate trim level or engine. This is good from a design purity standpoint (less is more... or, extra badging = ugly).
* 3.0 & 2.5 models have dual exhaust; not so for 2.0 models.
* Not sure how I feel about that green on the Outbacks.
Bob
Seems like they're using the 2-tone/Monotone cladding to differentiate trim level.
3.0R = Monotone
2.5l = 2-Tone
The green looks like mustard which I think is nice. Of course that might change when I see it in person.

Particularly for the US market, later perhaps also for Europe, the Japanese all wheel specialist Subaru plans a leisure jeep than competitor to BMW X5 and Mercedes m-class. The Subaru SUV is to be debuetieren at the latest 2005, be based technically on the platform of the new Legacy and produced in the USA. In North America the small Far East mark, at which GM holds a Minderheitsteiligung (20 per cent), to 2010 wants the license payments on 300.000 units annually treble

On basis of the next Impreza generation Subaru wants to realize a siebensitzigen Minivan with sliding doors starting from end of 2004. It is to replace the Subaru Traviq - an adaptation of the OPEL Zafira gefertigen in Thailand, which sells itself however in Japan badly, because except the Markenlogos no Subaru genes (neither all-wheel drive nor double-piston engine) are in the Kompaktvan. The market is however immensely important for Subaru: 50 per cent of all in Japan sold passenger vehicle high roof cars are.
Bob
Thanks for the link. I like the way the new OB and Legacy look. Even the 2.5 w/cladding doesn't look too bad. It's sort of subtle looking.
Has anyone heard anything further about the B11S? Is it still only concept, or do you think Subaru may actually develop it?
Looks like lots of good choices coming up in the next year or so.
Mark
2. outback looks awesome on the manual than the pic.
3. Wow, look at the Outback interior on the manuals
http://www.subaru-global.com/topics/ms/frk2003/download.html
Tone it down by 15-20% and it would look just fine.
Kompactvan: Now this is a Subaru I would definitely buy. Best application yet of the new "snout" (way toned-down!) Can't wait for it...please, Subaru, bring this to the US/Canada.
Finally, an Impreza-based vehicle with some real room inside. (Well, the third row may be a bit tight, but hey, it's only for kids/Mothers-in-law anyways! Please keep the price in Outback Sport/base Forester territory. Oh, and who says Subaru can't push the wheels out to the corners!!!
The B11S styling didn't translate as nicely onto a tall SUV a I'd hoped. Plus that color is hideous, I bet it would look 100% better in gunmetal. I'm sure that's a photochop, though.
The tallish van thingy looks better. I agree that the grille was toned down nicely. That's a sketch, it seems. Closest competitor would be the Mazda3.
-juice
With time the B11S concept has grown on me except for the grille. I can only imagine Subaru is banking that no one in the motoring press or public is old enough to remember the Edsel. If it goes to market, I guarantee you will read numerous unfavorable comparisons to the Edsel in the media. Please please please Subaru lose the bathroom scale!
Ed
It needs a squared off/edgy theme throughout to make that styling work. Rounded off trucks don't tend to look good.
I disagree with the 2nd paragraph. Buyers old enough to remember Edsel are not in the target demographic! They want young buyers. If it would keep geezers away they might consider that yet another GOOD thing about it! LOL
-juice
IMO the new Legacy front end would look nice on the B11S.
Ed (approaching geezerhood already?!?)
Still, I think the 34 and under crowd won't be influenced by any comparisons to Edsel.
Subaru needs a corporate look. The fleet has nothing in common, basically.
-juice
(talk about one box!)
BTW, Juice, I think you meant Mazda4 when you were talking competition....the 4 is the 3-based mini-minivan or sport compact van or whatever you want to call them these days. My wife wants a "multi-passenger" vehicle for our next purchase.
6-7 passengers, under $30 grand (Canadian).
Not much fits the bill now.....only the MPV, XL-7 and the Sedona. All of these slurp more gas than I would like. The "multi-passenger" part is for occasional use only, so one of the sport/compact vans like the Mazda4, Honda Latitude/Stream, VW Touran or this new Subie would be perfect.
Subaru, which announced a new version of the Legacy in Japan earlier this year, has added two new engines to the range. The first is a 2.5-liter, an enlarged version of the 2.0-liter flat-four that is the mainstay of the Subaru range. The second is a new flat-six 3.0-liter that the company claims is the lightest 3.0-liter six in the world. The 245-hp power unit will be the first six-cylinder engine in a Subaru since the SVX coupe went out of production in the mid-1990s. The engine’s extra power and low center of gravity should make the Legacy 3.0R, which will be available, like all the Legacy range, in sedan and wagon form, popular with drivers who want maximum performance plus all-wheel drive in a larger car.
BTW, what's and Edsel? ;-p

Ed: that's one sharp looking bathroom accessory! LOL
But really, looks like it belongs in a NY City loft belonging to a Banker.
HM-01 is a lot smaller but you do see a corporate resemblance. They could sell side-by-side in latin markets for instance.

After the Geneva show debut, the B11S sort of disappeared. Now it's showing up almost everywhere.
Bob
The new H6 looks like a nice engine, and would certainly get my attention if it was offered with a MT. It looks like the Legacy and Outback both get the 5EAT, only, with the new 3.0 engine. Maybe they'l spec the US release differently. There has been a swing back to MTs in sports sedans and wagons.....folks are waiting for months to get MT in their Audi S6 and A6 with the turbo and V8 and M3 and 5 series BMW's.
The interior shots in the german show pics are identical for the Legacy and Outback except for the cargo floor. Very nice pics they are.Looks like the funky moonroof is coming to America.

Wish the indicator would display the gear you're in besides "D" when playing with the Sportshift.
Couldn't be a production unit...
what happen to the passenger side airbag?
