The reason why I'm probably going to finance is that the monthly payment on this vehicle for a 72 month loan would be $1,030 and on a lease, $1,000 (with the same out of pocket).
The lease payment of $1,000 appears to be a bit high for a $66K vehicle and it appears that this is also caused by the conservative residual of 58% after 3 years and 36k miles. So if I wanted to try and trade in the vehicle the last month before the lease ends, I would be looking at a balance of $38,440.
Now, if I would finance the vehicle under the terms described above, the balance would be $35,330. A difference in my favor of $2,030 after considering the additional $30/month paid 'til then.
So unless the actual value of this vehicle drops below $36k (or 55%) after 3 years which I don't see happening, I don't know why leasing would be a better deal right now. I could be wrong though...
