    Hi Mitchell,

    Could you provide me the lease residual and money factor for an 2022 for 36m/15k with zero down for Audi E Tron S Sportback. I’m aware of the Audi lease rebate of $7,500… but the lease factor and residual seem off (has markup) with .00311 and 54%. Zip code is 78163, Bulverde Tx.

    The dealer is charging $91,755 for the car plus $1,200 for black wheels with a monthly rate of $1,866.00

Using MSRP of $114,610 and sale price of the same - $895 acquisition fee, $766 in other fees, 7.25% monthly use tax, the $7500 lease cash and additional $10K down, I'm getting $1486 per month - the dealer is quoting $1576 - I've tried 3 different lease calculators and get a similar number. Where am I going wrong?

    Illinois tax is collected upfront and added to the CAP cost. That's not a huge difference, but it's a difference.

    Ask the dealer for the adjusted CAP cost, and an itemization of the amounts.

    Also, if your Due at Signing is $10K OOP, then part of that amount has to be allocated to the first payment. You can't apply it all as a CAP cost reduction.

    About $6500 more than the sale price.
    I don't see a breakdown anywhere, but $895 acquisition fee and about $5200-$5300 for sales tax. I'll guess the rest is dealer fee/DMV? I'd ask.

    You can see that only $8080 of your $10K goes toward CAP reduction. The rest is $1595 first payment and another $325 unaccounted for. ($1919 due upfront)

    One reason your tax calculation was so far off, is the CAP reduction (cash and rebate) are also taxable.

    Adjusted CAP, $105,554

    With that CAP, money factor and residual, the payment is correct.

    Ask for a breakdown of the Gross CAP (including the sales tax amount)
    Ask why it's $1919 upfront (instead of $1594).

    The tax could be higher than I'm estimating, and there are certainly DMV charges and a dealer fee. That might account for all of the extra.

    I'm not following.

    If I want to put down $10K and my 1st payment, plates, doc fee - what should this payment be? Assuming 7.25% monthly tax as Illinois tax is not paid on the total cost of the car.

    That isn't how the lease is structured, though. They have you paying exactly $10K upfront.

    Illinois collects all the sales tax upfront. You can see the taxable amount on the lower right. That amount is the sum of the 36 payments, plus CAP cost reductions (cash down + rebates) That total amount X tax rate = sales tax. Collected upfront by the state, and in this case, added to the CAP cost.

    I don't know the exact sales tax amount, but if it's $5200 as I estimated, the payment would be about $100/mo less, if you paid $10K upfront, plus 1st payment, and all of the other items. Sales tax is about $40-$50/mo. more than you estimated. The rest of the difference in quoted payments is them deducting fees and first payment from the $10K upfront, rather than you paying them, in addition.

    Tell them you want the base rate.

    But, with the current market conditions, you may not get much traction.
