Bob: so "Dingo" is right out, then?

  • bblachabblacha Member Posts: 160
No, this is not my guess for the NotBrat name. It's a car that's apparently been available in Japan and is getting a redesign, possibly with a hybrid engine.

    http://mag-x.com/scoop/pleo_move0111/index.html

If Subaru gets encouraged by Honda Insight success and brings this toycar stateside, then CAFE would be satisfied and we could get the heavy breather Legacies from Japan.
What a nice dream, time to wake up now.

Ob name guess: I bet on Americana. Subaru Arizona or Subaru Longhorn or something.

and Retreiver are about 180º from one another. So, yeah, Dingo is out...

Steve, LOL! I can see why you're spending so much time on this. With the exceptions of Bandit and Timber, I like your list. I think Bandit carries too much anti-social baggage with it, and Timber just sounds a bit odd to me—although I see where you're coming from.

Of everything that's been mentioned so far, I like "Retriever" the best. I can picture a future outdoorsy LL Bean ad right now, with a Subaru Retriever in the background.

I saw that yesterday. I think it strongly hints of the concept HM-01, which is good IMO. It certainly a huge improvement over the current Pleo.

Whatever name Subaru has settled on, do think there will be an LL Bean version?

    ...(for obvious reasons).

    Holeshot is catchy too.

At first I thought you were kidding, Bob, but I guess it makes sense they'll have one.

I hope not, but I'm not one to attach brand names to stuff, I don't really see the attraction of the LL Bean name or Eddie Bauer or what ever the name, sounds too packaged and marketed to me. Just my thoughts

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
especially considering the audience they're going after. If they do, that would be their premium trim level. I wonder if VDC would be also offered, or be part of the Bean package?

If a Pleo ever comes over here, I'd half expect it to be rebadged and sold as some sort of GM. I think Subaru of America wants to stay away from the reputation that tiny sort of vehicle would bring, you know like when they had the Justy.

Not saying the Pleo is a bad vehicle at all, just seems that the image would directly counter the sporty, adventurous image they are trying to build.

if it ever came here, would need a much larger engine. I think currently has an engine around 660cc, if I'm not mistaken. Any engine that small won't make it over here.

Some of these have been used

Coast (we can have east and west versions)
Fescue (its a type of grass)
    Harvest
    Utah
    Canyon
    Alpine
    Summit
Rapid (as in part of a river)

    Stephen

Shenandoah? As in river and valley; the Subaru Shenandoah.

Too hard to say or spell?

We can use the name of the grass most common in Florida: the Subaru WEED!
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Is that grass grown or smoked?

I used to breed Golden's back in the '70s and '80s so I have a very positive association with them as well. I still say people won't want to drive a dog.

It can be thought of as in Reno Nevada or 'Reno'as in renovate for the DIY in most of us.

How bout a new discussion as to what it will be and what trim levels? I would like to see 4. A plain version (ala regular outback) with the H4. Second would be an H6 edition (adds dual range, switchback seat, and weatherhband stereo) Third is the VDC (adds leather, mac stereo, sunroof and all other VDC goodies) Fourth is "STX" (deletes switchback, mac stereo and leather) (adds EJ 20 turbo, extra fog lights, momo wheel, alloy pedals) VROOOOOOM

OOPS I sound like King Crimson with that last word.

(I'll go for the "STX" myself)

Both will have H-6 with manual tranny and dual range with switchback design, disc brakes (ABS) all around. No automatics offered, tie down hooks all over the box. Crappy departure angles.

One version will be like the L Forester
    Unpainted cladding
15-16 inch wheels on steel rims
    Optional cruise, AC, Power windows/locks

The other will be a sport version:
    Painted body cladding
    air-tilt-cruise
    Kick [non-permissible content removed] Stereo
17" alloy rims with low profile tires
fog lights on the role bar
sportier interior (momo wheel, alloy pedals, cool shifter etc. Soon to be out of style colours)
    Huge moonroof

    Any other predictions

there will be an LL Bean, as the top-of-the-line model, contented much like the Outback LL Bean. I'm not saying I want to see an LL Bean, but I do think they will offer it.

Below that model, I see a Base and a Sport trim level. The base will come with 16" (or 15") steel wheels, and H-4, with the H-6/auto as an option. The Sport will come with alloys, and the H-6/auto.

Plus, I'm preparing myself to be disappointed, because it won't have a low range, an H-6 w/5-speed, and/or improved towing.

    Bob
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
no automatics, that's not bloody likely with the H6. currently there are no *manuals* mated with it so you're betting on tall odds, hehe. the H6 does use the standard bellhousing though, so the current five and six speed gearboxes will mate, although I would think it would be stupid to choose the fragile five speed even though most trucks won't need six manual cogs.

therefore... I say no manual when the STX/Brat debuts, just like the H6 Outbacks.

    -Colin
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I'd bet a heap of $100s on no manual mated with the H6, and not likely a manual on the machine at all. Most people don't buy manuals especially on wagons/suvs (try to find an SUV with a manual offered and available for sale)

Since it is a crossover vehicle how about the Subaru Cross.

    Cheers Pat.

... will not sell well in Afghanistan. How about Subaru Crescent?

Oh, I'm going to regret this one.

You could get a two-fer -- tying it into the famous Subaru Australian ad campaign (the Aussie actor) AND to the rugged American Southwest (a very traditional Navajo dwelling) -- by calling it the Subaru "Hogan." Plus, you might be able to draw in WWF fans who mistakenly think of Hulk Hogan ... and, hey, maybe even '60s TV sitcom fans who'd think of "Hogan's Heroes" ... of course, whether mentally linking something to "Hogan's Heroes" and/or Hulk Hogan is overall a marketing plus or minus is for wiser minds than mine. ;)
  • texsubarutexsubaru Member Posts: 242
I imagine there would be a couple of different trim level/models for the non-Brat, but I'd think it'd be a base model and a sportier model (a la the Impreza/WRX), rather than a base model and an upscale model like an "L.L. Bean." I'm basing that on the fact that the STX looks to me like a vehicle Subaru would be better able to market to the young-ish, outdoorsy, active sports segment rather than to luxury buyers. But I could be wrong -- look at GM doing that bizarre (to me, at least) luxo $50K version of the Avalanche, the Cadillac Escalade EXT.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Look at the Crew Cab competition, and I think they might make the H6/auto the only powertrain available, at least at first. I'll go out on a limb and predict there will be only a single trim level at first - just like the H6 sedan, no LL Bean stuff.

If it sells well we'll see an H4 with both trannies, equipped like the base Outbacks.

Harvest is good, Harvester is better. Skier maybe. Adventurer, Hiker, Trekker, something like that.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
They can launch the adventurer from the back of the ascendor. I' bet on some kind of hiking theme to go along with the rest of the GM stuff.

  • Karen_SKaren_S Member Posts: 5,092
IMO, Trekker sounds too much like Tracker, which Chevy tacked on their mini-SUV.

Do you think anyone would get the connotation of Subaru About? A play on walkabout?

And keeping with Aussie themes...how about the Subaru Roo????

Okay...I'll go quietly. No need to show me the door.

that nobody has yet suggested a "made up" word. Subaru has done this in the past. Examples: Impreza, Justy, and Pleo.

OK, how about Surpriza, Pleazer, Crewster, Cabster, Pickster?

how about "Roundup?" The Subaru Roundup.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That's cool, kind of implies rounding up the herd on a farm, like you'd gather things into the pickup bed.

Herder? Whisperer? I like the names that end in "er" because I think Forester is catchy.

How about "DAVE" ?! [helmut and flamesuit on].

    Daffing AllPurpose VEhicle

Well, roughly half of owners would already have them personalized!

    Subaru Cascade
    Subaru Adirondack
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Adirondack is cool, but it's hard to spell. Doesn't Cascade wash my dishes? ;-)

Colorado has lots of cool city names, like Colby, Oakley, Kendall, Weston, Boulder, Vail, Avon, Aspen, Montrose, and Bonanza.

Aspen is taken, but plenty of choices out there.

It only makes sense for Suzuki to offer a 4 door version of the Aerio (SX concept). Remember the motocross jumping over the SX with fireworks and all at the show? All that hype must mean they are serious about it.
