Called another dealership and after we agreed on the vehicle price, I asked what the residual value would be on that vehicle if I wee to lease it. He said that's impossible because the price he gave me was a purchase price and he wouldn't budge from there.

Not if the quote included the incentives that are valid for a purchase.

Excluding incentives, you should be able to get the same price for purchase or lease. Gotta clarify that with the dealer.

Exactly, there were no incentives. He got mad over the phone when I started fighting the purchase price and I asked him for the residual value after we agreed on a price. Then I added in my trade in and he got all crazy saying that I'm throwing curve balls at him. I then specify that my trade in was a lease and that I had about 4k in equity and he started saying that nissan would charge him a lot of money to purchase that lease vehicle and that he would loose a lot of money on the deal. I had such a great experience when I lease my 2020 rogue sl awd with no money down (just taxes and fees). I just can't wrap my head around at how much things gave changed and how greedy dealers have gotten.

Hmm, not sure that the VW dealer can buy out your Nissan lease - many brands are disallowing 3rd parties from doing so.
