having the pad on the LVP is the way to go. just open the box and slap it down.

On the turbos, a lot of cars have what is basically 2 stage units. Essentially a small one for low end response, and a bigger one for high RPM power.

Probably worth the price by today’s standards. There’s rust thru on the passenger door and on the cab corner where one of the steps is attached. Considerable rust on the bumper too. It has fender flares on the wheel wells that usually only come on the Sports trim. I’d want to know what’s under there. The headliner is falling down but that’s a cheap fix.

That mileage is pretty high. I have a similarly rusty Ranger for sale near me with only 37,000 miles (or so the seller says) for not much more than that.
KBB has it in that range for private party sales. Take that for what it's worth.

As I said, by today’s standards. I think in a (hopefully) declining market price guides are off to the high side because they base values on higher previous sale prices.

Or maybe I’m just fooling myself.

On the other hand, a car identical to the one I bought in 2020 for $8k was listed for $15k in 2022.

I’ve seen lots of brands here I have not gotten to see for a long time (Citroen, Renault, Skoda, Peugeot) but this was the first one that made me whip out the phone to grab a pic. Not only was it a “they still exist?!” revelation, but as an electric car, at that.

They are Chinese owned, and have been for some time.

Yes, I recall reading a Chinese company bought the name, but I was not aware they actually did anything with it since then.

An angry-eyed cloned CUV is a good continuation of the MG name.

Seriously. I mean, what the heck was the point of buying the name? 5 CUV choices in their lineup. At least throw a roadster in the mix.

I attempted to set a destination in my GPS in the car and via satellite connection with Genesis but I received a notice on the display screen that an update of the GPS system is required.

So I made an appointment for this morning to have the update completed. I could have done it myself by downloading the update on my computer and save it to a thumb drive. Then, insert the thumb drive into the USB input port in the car and update the GPS and maps. But I was told that there was no charge for the dealer to complete the process for me.

I am sitting in their brand new stand-alone Genesis showroom and service facility. It’s gorgeous. It’s split level with snacks and coffee and donuts/crullers and bear claws, and soda, etc. Genesis has sure come a long way in the past few years effectively competing with BMW, Mercedes, Lexus and Audi.

The showroom and service waiting room have leather chairs, wood flooring and marble flooring. Stereo music is piped in. I am impressed.

The process includes map update with more color available. It takes about an hour.

Sounds like a pretty nice experience. The Genesis / Hyundai dealer closest to me decided to drop the Genesis brand, as corporate was insisting they build a stand-alone site for the brand. Too expensive for the owners, I suspect. Now there are only two Genesis dealers in the metro Denver area.

    False advertising!

Speaking of which, I had two young people come to the door, they had on black T-shirts with a mosquito in a circle on the front. They asked me if I had a problem with mosquitoes. I said, no not that I ever noticed. I told them that I think the smog from the industries in town did a good job of killing mosquitoes. They said that they were removing mosquitoes from breeding on my property. So I said, if I have you kill all the mosquitoes on my property how do I know my neighbors aren't breeding mosquitoes...I mean they could fly over from the houses next door. Then I thought, I am wasting my life on this conversation...so I said I was too busy to discuss mosquitoes.

Even more mind boggling is why they wouldn’t have moved the Buick dealer to the new spot and then have Genesis and Hyundai next door to each other.

I’d wager the reason is that Genesis subsidizes the new dealership in some way… either a low interest loan or credits paid after the build is complete.

I was summoned for local jury duty to report today and was expected to be available all week. I reported as requested at 10am and sat with other potential jurors for about 2 hours. The judge entered the room, a seemingly personable guy and said we were in luck. The defendants in 2 court rooms where we might have been assigned pleaded guilty rather than go to trial. We were good to go, our civic duty met. It was a encouraging experience.

Interesting experience here with power tools and L-I batteries I thought I'd share.

Almost exactly 3 years ago a nearby branch of a Canadian home center (Rona, owned by Lowe's) closed out that location - not a surprise as it was one they had acquired when they bought a local operation a few years previously and it was mainly a contractor lumberyard and supply house with limited retail store space. They were having a 40% off sale on everything on the shelves during their final days so I went to see if anything interesting remained. I bought a few small items for next to nothing but one thing intrigued me. They had a couple of Craftsman brand trim nailers for a good price so I decided to get one for no other reason than to install some moldings. Shortly after that I began having health issues again and never got around to doing it so it sat on a shelf still unopened.

This past weekend I had some quarter-round to install in a few spots after having the wall-to-wall carpet ripped out so I bought some and opened up the nailer. My first impression was how big and hefty it was which I took to be a good sign. The battery was dead of course but when I plugged in the charger and installed the battery nothing happened. I was concerned because my initial thought was either a bad battery or a bad charger, expensive either way since the warranty had expired long ago.

I did a search for the model number and discovered that there is an issue with many types of L-I batteries used by certain manufacturers, essentially that after some point they lose charge below a threshold where they are no longer recognized by the charger and act like mine did. A solution recommended by some that struck me as potentially risky was to run a 12V source to the + and - terminals on the battery for 30 seconds or so to jolt it back to some semblance of life, then put it in the charger where it would now take a full charge. I have a 12V bench power supply here from my old-car days so I hooked it up as directed. When I put the battery in the charger away it went. Once charged, the nailer worked and did a fine job.

I have suspicions about the battery still but so far, so good.

@ab348, I’ve never had that problem but don’t knock success. If you want to experiment let the battery run down completely then put it in the charger. If it works don’t worry about it. If it doesn’t work, jump start it like you just did and be sure not to let it run down completely again.

I take it you don’t have indicator lights on your battery (usually 4 led lights that light up when you push the battery test button) showing the charge remaining on the battery. Those are very useful because lithium ion batteries don’t slow down the operation of the device they’re used in. Once the battery goes below a given threshold they just stop working altogether. It’s a pain when that happens because you’re usually in the midst of doing something so you have to get another battery to finish what you’re working on.

FWIW, I wouldn’t buy anything with the Craftsman name today. Whereas, years ago I’d only buy Craftsman tools and as a result I have more Craftsman tools than I can count. Even bought a 1/2 Craftsman lithium ion drill with 2 very heavy duty batteries back in the early 2000’s. The only down side to that drill is that it’s big and HEAVY. I only use that beast when I’ve eaten Wheaties for breakfast and I want to make sure I don’t run out of juice doing a job.

Forgot to share this one yesterday. A tad smaller than the one that took us up to the glacier was this that took us on a longer ride to see an ice cave.

Interesting place you take vacations to. I haven’t seen cloths hanging on a line since my Mother did that back in the early 50’s. Eventually, even she stopped doing that so the clothes smelled nice. :|

Ft. Lauderdale International Airport has been closed since yesterday afternoon. They are hoping to reopen the north and south runways to air traffic tomorrow which is dependent on getting the taxiways free of 3-5 feet of standing water overnight. The other runway is still under water.

27+ inches of rain fell over south Broward County in 4 hours yesterday. They call it the 1000 year rain event. That’s half the annual average precipitation for Ft. Lauderdale that fell in 4 hours. Most of southeast Broward County is still under water.

It’s raining right now and they are expecting another 3-5 inches from these thunderstorms this afternoon. They just announced on the news that FLL may not open tomorrow because the retention ponds are at 100% capacity with no where for the water at the airport to go.

Don't worry, Mike, by midsummer the TV weather types will be sounding the alarm about drought conditions... ;)
