I did the mower repair. I watched on doing the repair and it looked lousy. Much easier to slap on a new one. Does run but Bieber seemed quite right. Next mow when I run the gas dry switching to my new electric mower.

That is probably true. My neighbor has a BMWi EV and we don't have sidewalks around here, we like it this way. But, you can't hear that car coming from behind us when we walk Trixie. Very unsafe!

This morning I ran edger till it stopped then quickly removed the float bowl. Fuel was in it and fuel was dribbling in just fine. But I found the problem was the idiot doing the work.

Next I got my Tecumseh seat and float height tool and checked the float height. Whoops. Now it's way too low. I checked the height at installation, but it's like after the seat was soaked in gas, the float level was way too low.

Fought with the needle and metal tab to adjust the float height near correct (good enough for government work), and voila, it runs.

Wow....maybe we'll give up the Florida snowbird home and buy in Cincinnati near Pickle Lodge, 17 indoor courts. Sounds great.
We have this new chain of sports facilities called King's Court. They sell time to play basketball, and that adds up because of all the players on each team. But, during the day these places are empty, so they rent courts for $20 an hour, divided by 4 players makes for a pretty inexpensive activity.

Hmm, I might not have all the details, but my Parents had the following that I can remember:

early 80's Audi wagon with good engine (5-speed).
'82 Honda Accord Sedan 5-speed survived a 45 MPH rear end collision for drive worthiness (couldn't kill it), but wasn't safety worthy anymore for another crash.
'87 VW Jetta GL (good all around car)
'80's Subaru wagon super under-powered, FWD
Toyota 4Runner V6
'95 Camry
'01 Camry V6
'03 Lexus ES
Almost forgot a Prius here (mostly for my Mom) but as predicted, it didn't last as it was too rough around the edges after being coddled by the Lexus).
Recent model Lexus ES-Hybrid

My older brother had the Toyota T100, Tundra, a Lexus Landcruiser, then a Corolla (as gas prices got to him).

Those Toyota's and Honda made Chrysler a laughing stock.

Why is the seat made of an absorbent material? For that matter, why is any material made of an absorbent material that is subjected to gasoline or a gas/oil mixture in your edger?

In my day I rebuilt my share carburetors on cars and there were no absorbent materials in the float bowl or anywhere else in the carb.

When I'm ready to replace our gas mower, which is running fine, I am tempted to replace it with a battery powered one. It takes about an hour to mow our yard so could be a good match running wise. My only real concern is longevity of the battery packs. I seem to only get about 3 years out of my battery powered lawn tools. The cost of replacement batteries is almost as much as buying a new tool. As a rule, gas mowers last much longer than that provided they are maintained with regular oil changes, etc.

I think @abacomike has a recipe for lizard stew that’s loaded with lizards that fall from the trees when the temps drop too low for them in southern Florida. Maybe @Sandman6472 has a recipe too.

I agree. A few years ago I retired the lawnmower I bought when I lived in SC in ‘95. It still ran fine but the self propelled feature was starting to lose grip and it also needed all 4 wheels. It’s now left at the flip house we’re working on at the time so my grandson can cut the grass there so we don’t get sued.

I've never changed oil in a lawn mower. I usually keep one 4 or 5 years then trade it in on a new one. I'm thinking battery the next time too.

My mouth is watering for those clams. When I lived in New York, we would go out for dinner and have all-you-can-eat “Ipswich” steamers served in large bowls. Can’t get them down here, unfortunately. But those “steamers” were heavenly dipped in butter.

Saw a huge green iguana this morning basking in the sun in our parking lot. They are not indigenous to South Florida - they are the result of people who had them as pets releasing them. Over the years, they have multiplied by the thousands because they have no natural enemies to limit populations. Can’t stand those critters.

We tend not to get that type around here. The local ones are much larger and really not pleasant to eat that way, although with some prep and coating they are excellent deep-fried. The preferred steamed local shellfish is (are?) mussels.

I'm in the middle of a double-murder felony mediation; the weekend can't come soon enough.
The judge isn't having court on Monday so I told my staff we'd shut down as well. Having some family over for lunch tomorrow, and my son is flying in with his girlfriend.
Me, I plan to watch the Austrian F1 practices, sprint, and race- along with the Chicago street race and the Spa 24.
If I get a chance my son and I will take out the C43 in hopes of surprising some musclecars at the Stoplight Grand Prix...

Six of us, (wife, me, daughter, her husband and 2 kids) are headed to Wisconsin to visit our other daughter.
Only thing I know of for sure is a walking tour of the Epic campus where she works.
Been there before a couple of times but they keep adding new stuff.

I was a holdout for gas powered lawn tools but after the cheap Walmart electric chain saw lasted longer than I did, I’m a convert. I still wouldn’t go electric for mowing 5-6 acres though.

I may be lining up my next car purchase from a guy at work. He just bought a 2023 Camry which he will take to Florida in the winter. He says that after 3 years he gets tired of cars and then buys another. I made him promise to give me a call when the time comes as a low mileage Florida car with a known history is my dream.

Two co-defendants and no forensics to prove who pulled the trigger. We were 99% sure who pulled the trigger, so we had to flip the other defendant and have him testify against the guy we believe is guilty. Today i had to get his testimony on the record and offer a deal to secure that testimony. This is the second murder case with two co-defendants that I’ve had to flip one defendant to get the most culpable guy for the murder.
And I have two more murder cases that will require that I use the same strategy.

The mediation ended after a little over 5 hours; I have the defendant's statement on the record and he pled to lesser charges but still took a sentence that satisfied the families of the two victims.

A 13+ hour travel day after a week at the home office (5 nights at a hotel) is a great capper to a very tiring week. I need to buy a new house or car so I don’t feel like such a dope for coming out of early retirement to go back to work. Really the only season was to collect some more money but if I ain’t spending it on something fun, why bother?

I don’t think the pythons can catch those iguanas - they move so fast. I see some 4-5 foot iguanas every so often. They seem to thrive down here.

I was a salaried employee too.

I remember back in the early 80’s work was piling up and upper management wanted to reach a deadline. My boss came to me one day and asked how many hours of overtime I wanted to work. I told him because of what was going on I was already working at least an hour a day more so I didn’t want to work much more than that. He said he knew that but now I would get paid for it at time and a half if I still wanted to work an hour a day more. I asked him if he was kidding and he assured me I’d get paid for what I was already giving the company. He saw the startled look on my face and said something like, “when upper management wants something bad enough money is no object and they’ll throw out their rules. How about I put you in for 8 hours a week. Work it how you want”. I told him fine but I wouldn’t be working on the weekends.

So, like I said there are times when companies don’t hold to their rules.
