A 13+ hour travel day after a week at the home office (5 nights at a hotel) is a great capper to a very tiring week. I need to buy a new house or car so I don’t feel like such a dope for coming out of early retirement to go back to work. Really the only season was to collect some more money but if I ain’t spending it on something fun, why bother?

Did you finally get that job at Carvana? Must be tiring driving that delivery truck for that long. :s

If it helps I drove for 14 hours on Thursday.

We're open Monday but closed on Tuesday. Working Wednesday to make up for Tuesday as of now. Couldn't work this past Wednesday since I had moved my July 5th doctor appointment to that day thinking they'd bring us in on the 5th. For once, my gamble paid off & I'll get every other day of work for the week, like I had at Hertz. We've been working 9 plus hour days lately which is fine with me.
Using our phones to do all our clock rings now & after the first day screw ups, working quite well. Seems they forgot to tell us what username to sign in with which caused the majority of the problems. Simple miscommunication again was the cause of so much confusion. Seems that way at most places that communication, or the lack of there of, is usually the route cause of all problems. But using our smart phones for all our clock rings seems to be working just fine.

As I mentioned in another forum, found out my hearing is below normal and has gotten a bit worse since 2019 when I was last tested. Have a phobia about sticking things in my ears so those small units that can't be seen are probably something I won't even consider. Any help y'all could give about brands, costs, etc. would be greatly appreciated. My family tells me I turn the volume up when listening to things but don't really notice it.
This getting older stuff is getting a bit harder than I thought. Besides having spinal issues and vertigo, now my hearing is going south on me. Such is life I guess but hoping that this will be the last issue I go through for awhile!

As you all will recall the "auxiliary battery needs maintenance" light came on in the E400. MrsD100s car had this happen last year.
This is a secondary battery in the trunk that works the stupid start/stop which I turn off when I start the car. My car is 6 years old and these batteries last 3 to 5 years. Start/Stop is supposed to make the car more economical to run. But a new battery will cost $400 and they have to dispose of an old battery, how does that save the environment?
Nothing makes sense any more :s

The mediation ended after a little over 5 hours; I have the defendant's statement on the record and he pled to lesser charges but still took a sentence that satisfied the families of the two victims.

Have you done any research to determine how long it takes to film a 30-minute episode?

I went to a taping of Married, With Children when I lived in CA. It took around 3 hours for 22 minutes of television.

There’s been a lot of glitches on that new system. For a week the time clock wouldn’t acknowledge that we had clocked in so it wouldn’t accept our hours.

They want us to install an app on our phones but my flip phone doesn’t have that capability so I was considering quitting if they required me to get a smart phone. Fortunately, the first line of the instructions were “this is voluntary “ so I get to remain off the grid so to speak. By the time they make it mandatory I’ll be long gone I hope.

If the battery cartel was as smart as the oil companies they’d make batteries that would last only 2 years. We’d complain till the cows came home, just like we do about gas prices, but what could we really do about it?

I hope the battery cartel ain’t lurking in here.

O F, the guys at our office who don't have smart phones are using the old computers as they have the new system downloaded it seems. Guessing not everyone has a smart phone...assumed everyone did as I thought having a GPS device was mandatory so folks will know how to get to all places we go. I know I waited two weeks back in January of 2013 to make sure the job & I were a good fit & I'd be there for awhile. But do get that some don't want...or need a smart phone. Our son doesn't have one which I don't get...but understand as he's so good with tech. But guess he has his reasons not to own one which I never ask.

Well, Judge Judy has actually been solving 3 cases in each 30 minute show I have seen lately.
I guess these are just before she retired, she gets really impatient with the duds who do things like get into car accidents and don't have insurance or a drivers license.
In the last show a guy stops at the stop sign. It is clear, and a woman going perpendicular to him goes through her 4 way stop sign and hits his rear quarter panel/wheel area.
He looked, saw she wasn't at the corner yet, and he proceeded to go through.
The defendant is claiming that he came up beside her and side swept her car and somehow his rear panel hit her car.
The woman forgot to pay for her insurance.
Needless to say, the defendant couldn't pull the wool over Judge Judy's eyes. Judge Judy kept saying....ridiculous, ridiculous!

I got a new real job and started 3 weeks ago, so back on the hamster wheel for a while. Made sense since my wife was going to be working anyway so might as well be getting paid for now since only one of us being retired did not seem fair!

Sandy, at this point, it is very difficult to travel without a smart phone. So much is done via apps and notifications. Especially if you need to get an Uber or Lyft to get around. No phone, forget about it. And of course many people now have their boarding passes on the phone (and it is not so easy these days to find a way to print one if you are going old school).

I have an old Garmin GPS but mostly I know how to get where I’m going after 5+ years. I’ve had to lead new guys when we travel through mountains or areas without cell service and their smart phone GPS freezes up. My Garmin is satellite based so it never does that.

One new guy was with us on a double trip to Wayne NJ. He followed the chase driver on the first run but on the second he said he would let his smartphone direct him. An hour after we had all arrived in Wayne he called the chase and said he was lost. When asked where he was he said “I don’t know I was just following my GPS and it took me here”.

I’ve become very reliant on GPS, not because I don’t know where I’m going… but to try and miss any traffic.

When I go up to my office in North Jersey WAZE takes me a different way nearly every single time

+1 for using Google Maps or Waze just for traffic. Had to once I realized most places didn’t have a KYW doing traffic consistently every 10 minutes.

You hi-tech guys almost make me wish I wasn't allergic to those NAV systems... :p

Here in Nova Scotia there is mass outrage since as of yesterday gas prices jumped 18 cents per liter (so almost 70 cents CDN per US gallon) thanks to the imposition of a federal carbon tax on all fuels. The Feds say that we will get quarterly rebate checks that will make us whole but nobody I've talked to understands how that can be and few actually believe the claim. I find it hard to believe that Justin has been elected PM twice... :#

We have the same thing in WA state, some carbon thing that was claimed would only add a few cents per gallon, now we have the most expensive gas in the country (PUG at my neighborhood Chevron is well over $5 now). Governor promised it would end up not being impactful, that backfired. Not to get political, he's nothing to write home about, but his opponent was objectively much much much much much worse, so here we are - no rebate checks either.

I believe the Colorado Cars & Coffee group on FB have identified a few stations that offer 93.

getting gas? What is that? I am up to 900 miles on the Maverick and still am sitting at 3/8th of a tank left. Have put gas in once so far (about 10 gallons maybe).

speaking of filling up, wife and I stopped at a model home today just to scope it out. Among other things the agent said that one of the things they include in the base price is an EV charger in the garage. Not sure if she just meant the outlet or also a charger unit, which seems hard to do without knowing what kind of EV you have.

That’s because you’re at a higher altitude (Denver) than most of the country. Therefore, you can get away with a couple points lower in octane since the engine is naturally running with a rich mixer because there is less air. 93 octane in Denver is probably not going to do much performance wise. Just like premium used in cars that don’t require it at lower altitudes doesn’t do much for the non performance engines but folks can talk themselves into believing the highest octane is always better. I doubt the seat of my pants can tell the difference.

Around here RUG is 89 octane and PUG is 93 octane.

speaking of filling up, wife and I stopped at a model home today just to scope it out. Among other things the agent said that one of the things they include in the base price is an EV charger in the garage. Not sure if she just meant the outlet or also a charger unit, which seems hard to do without knowing what kind of EV you have.

    ————————————————
I’m sure you’re right about the house only having an outlet for a charger to be supplied by the buyer.

The agent is just spouting off what the builder put in his brochure. Kinda like a newbie car salesman not being up to speed on features.

I believe the Colorado Cars & Coffee group on FB have identified a few stations that offer 93.

    Generally, we have 85/87/91.

    ————————————————

That’s because you’re at a higher altitude (Denver) than most of the country. Therefore, you can get away with a couple points lower in octane since the engine is naturally running with a rich mixer because there is less air. 93 octane in Denver is probably not going to do much performance wise. Just like premium used in cars that don’t require it at lower altitudes doesn’t do much for the non performance engines but folks can talk themselves into believing the highest octane is always better. I doubt the seat of my pants can tell the difference.

Around here RUG is 89 octane and PUG is 93 octane.

Having grown up in SoCal, I'm more than familiar with octane levels the rest of the country gets.

    In NM, it's 86/88/91.

I was told by our builder, in MA, that beginning in '23, building code dictates a 240v outlet in the garage.
And, BJs PUG was $3.86 (less my fab discounts).

Awesome, that would be something to remember. Still one of the funniest shows out there, especially before the last few seasons,.

Probably the last show where they allowed true “funny” without the fear of hurting feelings.

The working title for Married was: "Not the Cosby Show"- which is ironic in retrospect.

So I am in the left lane going down this highway during rush hour and a Toyota SUV is on my bumper. I go into the right lane which is where I want to be and he gets one car ahead and he wedges himself into the space between me and the car ahead. Just after that bridge ahead there is an on ramp, Toyota Guy moves onto the on ramp and speeds up to wedge himself in and get 3 more cars ahead.
Wow...he moved up 4 cars and will save himself 10 seconds for all of his stupid driving!
It is getting almost as bad in Ontario as it is in Florida! :s

I never understood badging up…. Just makes you look foolish when you get beat.

De-badging on the other hand I don’t mind.

Speaking of people migrating north and south, that used to be a real irritation on the interstate for us on our trips to Pigeon Forge TN. For the last few years the campers and trailers that people drive back and forth weren't very common, but this year, they're all over the place. The last few weeks have been noticeably higher in the number being out on the roads, north, south, east and westbound here in Ohio.

The problem is some aren't very good at driving them. They don't get much practice or they're scared of the load they're dragging along with them.

Even worse are the few that have no fear: they don't seem to realize their compromised stopping distance as well as the possibility of a jackknife if they do try quick maneuvers.

And there are the few 4-wheelers that are scary. I recall a northbound Florida driver who was going 45 or 50 in the left lane of two-lane I75 just over the Cumberland Mtn at the south border of KY back in April.

I’m always wary of those part time camper drivers and rental trucks too.

I learned at Ryder when I started renting big 26' box Freightliner trucks to transport the marching band that they would give keys to anyone with a license. 18 seemed to be old enough too. And only grudgingly would give you a few quick pointers about how to make it go. Then you were on your own. U haul pretty much the same thing. Got a DL, credit card, and a pulse? Take anything on the lot and feel free to hook a trailer up to it too.

I'm wary of part time campers and rental trucks too.....and trailers that have little thin tires.

Actually on I-75 near Tampa I saw a guy with a small trailer start to swerve back and forth and then flip over.

often see people ripping along above the SL towing those utility trailers with what look like wheelbarrow tires. Which are probably restricted to 50 MPH or less. So loaded up on the highway at 75 is probably not safe. Can practically smell the bearings burning up.
