Try that in a new car!

You do and it won’t be a new car anymore!

Right hand steering wheel indicates that these are likely British cars. I think the gold car we knew as a Honda Civic was sold there as a Honda Ballade. Amazing how big it looks next to the red Mini behind it.

Austin Allegro behind the Ballade Acclaim?

The home-built Honda was the Triumph Acclaim.

Well, that would explain the big "Triumph Acclaim" sign next to it!

Oops, that's not an Allegro, it's a Princess. Any idea what the brown car next to it is?

I think it's an Allegro or late run Marina to the left of the Princess, Morris Ital to the right. Looks like a Rover SD1 between the Allegro and a Series III XJ6.

BL cars are notorious for multiple reasons, but some are a guilty pleasure for me.

    @fintail

I couldn't get your last post to open which was apparently the one with the british cars

I was watching a tv cop show the other evening which was actually made in about 2003

It was filmed in Edinburgh and I was surprised how many cars were in the category "Haven't seen one of those for years.."

A whole generation the last gasps of BL but also the Ford Sierras and Vauxhalls - stuff we wouldn't have even noticed in the street at the time.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,237
Following my comment above this picture was in paper in Glasgow, about a mechanised car park in Edinburgh which was built in 2005 or so but was so unreliable that thy abandoned it in about 2015..

These cars are still there but I doubt the antique motor trade will be too excited.

I think part of this car park was used for hire cars anyway - probably these were written off by Hertz or Avis as worthless, on their books..

Which show? Wife and I took up watching British detective series during Covid, I'm enjoying all the cars I never see here. We're currently watching 'Taggart'.

The same with the ones I remember. Friend had one, got stopped by the cops when we had a 3rd guy sit in between the seats on the tonneau, top down of course. Cop told us about the dead guy he dealt with having fallen out under similar circumstances...

Thanks for finding the BL picture

It really was a shame that BL was so woefully managed that they couldn't achieve anything with their main offerings in the family car market
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,237
I found a reference to this car with an unfamiliar model name that I hadn't heard before.

Guess the state based on the license plate? Mid-'70s apparently. I can only see a single import infiltrating the meeting of Detroit iron here. Zooms very well.

Beyond the Pontiac wagon I think that is a Chevy Nova but beyond that there is an AMC Matador - - The last series I think and they had that funny grille with a sort of patterned mosaic on it.

AMC actually sold cars here up to the early 70s although mostly the Ambassador range

Gen 1 firebird front row. Behind that is a VW 411 wagon, the lone import!

It was the newest one I saw.

I spotted a Mopar fuselage wagon peeking above the roof of the Pontiac wagon.

Good eye by @magnette to pick out the Matador, maybe a ‘72 or so.

I think there’s a ‘69 Buick next to the Matador, and parked at 90 degrees to it is what looks like a white Lincoln Mark IV.

I think I sleuthed out the license plates - mid-70s Wisconsin plates, with the “America’s Dairyland” slogan at the top.

KNXT were the call letters of TV channel 2, KCBS in LA.

The 1950s picture is Los Angeles, specifically the corner of Hollywood and Vine. The Taft Building still occupies that location.

Here is another pic of it from a similar time period, zooms very well:

Is that shoebox Chevy a Nomad? Looks like a wagon. And already like an antique with all those low "modern" cars. T Bird behind it.

Left border - 1953 or 1954 Chevy wagon.
That gas cap location is a major hint.

    Also there's a circa 51 DeSoto on left - EDIT - 50

It's a '62, I think it's a Dart (my mom's car) because there's no indication of the added trim on the rear fender, but that's hard to see from this angle. Growing up with it, I didn't think it odd looking, but now I see...
