Interior-wise, the Tahoe is done really nicely. Soft touch materials are everywhere The digital gauge cluster is simple and tells you all the information you need. Getting to different information screens is easy too and very intuitive .

I agree the GM display is easy to figure out and is easy to scroll through to the info you want. My wife's XT5 dash display is much easier to navigate compared to to my Toyota Crown which is rather confusing. I still haven't figured out how to access the tire pressure easily. The process involves navigating three different displays, each with different info. The display in the Cadillac is straightforward in that you can scroll through to the info you want. Also it has info that the Toyota does not like an instant MPG number, actual coolant and transmission temperature and remaining oil life percent..

Yeah... this is a family of 5. Mom is the shortest at 5'9", up to son at 6'6". But, two of the kids are out of college, and the last one is in college. And, they all have vehicles.

    @kyfdx,
That's the S550. When it was introduced, to many people it looked too much like a Fusion from the front, but over time opinions changed.

It's funny how folks like to pan the Fusion. When the final iteration was introduced (around 2012?), it put the world on notice and pretty much every sedan looked suspiciously similar to it the next model year. It was a radical shift and pretty impressive in terms of the design influence it had.

About eleven months ago Jeep issued a recall on the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe involving the HV battery. A lot of owners ran around like their hair was on fire but I simply left the battery discharged and drove it as normal- and I never badgered Jeep about it. So, today I get an email from Jeep telling me I am getting a $100 gift card because my jeep was part of that recall. I double-checked and the letter was legit; I'll get the card in 30 days or less.

Just because, I got a quote for my F-150.
They have zero exact matches, V8, FX4, Black Pkg and less than 6K miles.
    Their offer was 40.6K.
They have several lesser spec units for sale for just under 47K.

So, today I get an email from Jeep telling me I am getting a $100 gift card because my jeep was part of that recall.

That sounds like one of the corporate phishing test emails we regularly get ("Dunkin' is giving away free donuts and coffee!"). They're made a bit more difficult by the fact that we get DoorDash gift cards fairly often when we have lunch and learns, quarterly lunch meetings, or other special events, but we get advance warning of those so we know to expect them.

I had to call Jeep back. I googled the phone number it' is the same number used for their recall hotline. I gave them the last 8 digits of my VIN and they confirmed my name and email.

The $30-40k EV market is heating up, between the new Leaf, Bolt, Ford announcement, and the new Toyota/Subarus. 300 miles is a far more usable range for day trips than a lot of the recent entrants--it would easily get me to Cincinnati and back, or a Saturday and Sunday hiking 60-ish miles away, with only level 1 charging overnight. I wonder how this new crop will lease.

I think 300 miles range for EVs is becoming the standard now. Works well for us. I’m thinking maybe when the Kia lease is up a smaller EV with good range might fit our needs nicely.

I remember cross shopping that generation when I got my 2006 Avalon. Great car, but at the time the Avalon had the (then new) 3.5 2GR V6 and was larger for a little less money similarly equipped so I went with the Avalon. That 2006 Avalon is still one of my favorite cars I've owned.

That M3 is nice, but I'd want a complete service history and verification that the 1,200 mile M service was completed on schedule.
As for the Mustang, I'd much rather have the Mach 1 from that generation. The 2008 and 2021 Bullitts are the ones I would want.

Yes the 3.5 2GR uses a chain. I think that generation started in 2007 but don't hold me to it. The only issue I know of with the early versions of the 2GR is the VVT oil line. Part of it was rubber and over time it could rupture and leave you stranded. The fix was an all metal line. Many people choose to do this proactively before the rubber line ruptures. At some point Yota made the change to the new part in production.

I've been doing a little maintenance work on the Superduty this week, including oil change, transmission fluid/filter, fuel filters, and whatnot. I find that the engine bay sits high enough that I need to use a ladder in order to have decent access to anything! Thankfully, it's not 12' up, but it feels that way once in a while....

I take it you’re not the one that jacked it up. On the positive side you at least have room to move your arms when you’re doing work underneath. Guess this is good/bad depending on the work you’re doing.

FWIW Son #1 just installed a 4-post lift in the new house. He says he almost feels guilty doing work underneath his vehicles. Has even made a few new friends and I don’t mean new neighbors.

Noticed where they bought that Nissan Rogue in Florida. Called Performance Nissan now but years ago, was named Endicott Nissan where we bought our 2001 Altima Special Edition and that awful 2003 Sentra SE. The Nissan dealer near the house is so much closer, but so hard to deal with so going closer to the beach store was so much better. But since then, we usually buy from the dealers right outside our housing development. Being within 5 minutes of the house, makes things so much easier.

On another note, we've been really discussing our plans for the next few years. Our middle child in St. Augustine really wants to stay up there & buy something. And now that my wife is off from TurboTax till the end of the year, she'll be making more trips up there it seems to help with the house search. Her schedule is better then mine in this respect as I can't take off that much. The idea of us all living together is still on the table but doubt it will happen. Rather be a few minutes away & have our privacy to be honest. Luckily, they've found a few new construction areas so finding two places should be easier. But after being in the Ft. Lauderale/Pompano Beach area for so long, we both moved down to Florida in 1969, not sure if I really want to move to a new strange area where I don't know my way around. Have only been there three times now and still have no idea where N,S,E,W are! I feel so lost up there and feel so comfortable down South here. But, I know it's the right thing to do now, moving that is, but it's going to be a daunting task for me going forward. Just thinking about packing up this place stresses me out! July 1st was 38 years we've been living in this house which is a long time. I have started making a list of where to start purging so trying to organize things in my mind. Guess I'm just going to make up my mind to just do it! But, it's really hard for me as I do love where we currently live.

Congratulations on the new VW GTI! You finally stepped up! Enjoy!

For what it's worth, our '19 Tiguan that had the unusually super long VW 2019 warranty period only needed the warranty one time. Recently (as the warranty recently ran out), but before it did, the infamously bad plastic water pump garbage needed replacement, which was handled under warranty. Other then that, the car has been flawless like a Toyota.

I have a friend who was looking for a new TV and soundbar; I recommended a Sony TV and a Sony soundbar. I had it up and running in no time. It even controls his AT&T cable box. It sounds remarkably good for a 2.1 setup and the picture is very good as well.

Was it the Bravia 8 Sony OLED? I'm currently shopping for a new main TV at 65". The 60" plasma may be starting to dim as it's passed it's half life in 'Hours of Usage" easily. Or I might just be looking for an excuse to upgrade. I do not like the idea of being "big TV-less" waiting for a complete failure though.

My '18 Macan (knock on wood) has been flawless too.

I don't like the proximity sensors; way too sensitive. The seat memory is wonky. This could be a combination of human error, needing to read the manual, needing a Porsche "genius" to show me the ropes for 15 minutes, or just simple software setting fixes, or worst case scenario glitches.

You are correct, the Uber Eats/Doordash fees are very high....I always try and order w/ the restaurant directly if I can.

Locally here in town, 100% of the time I pick up. The only time I get food delivered, is when two of my kids who don’t who aren’t old enough to drive yet or home by themselves, and I am almost certain that there’s nothing in the house for them to eat for lunch and my wife and I are both working. And usually the delivery is from my friend’s restaurant.

Once maybe every two months, I will get food delivered at work from Uber eats, because I work in a bad neighborhood and the food choice are terrible, but I work not too far from Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, which has amazing Italian food, so I’ll either order from this one restaurant that I know is phenomenal, or I will get chipotle delivered. But even then, from the Italian restaurant, and it’s a very nice Italian restaurant and entrée for me, my mom, and my dad, plus the delivery fee tax tip. It ends up being almost $80. It’s ridiculously expensive.

Sounds about right; used to it now in CA. I don't get delivery so I keep it down at $70 for 3 for casual dining takeout. Fast food isn't worth it. Why pay more or equal for less healthy food?

From a long-time automotive industry insider, who refers to the Ford CEO as: Jim “I’m a genius, just ask me” Farley... "So, when is this EV ”wonder truck” due to be produced? Farley & Co. is saying 2027, which means, given Ford’s track record of fumbling product introductions and the radical transformation of its assembly processes to pull this vehicle off, figure sometime in 2028. And $30,000? It’s a nice target, but don’t count on that figure for a second."

So Musk isn't the only car company leader over-promising and under-delivering? Anyone here get a Cybertruck yet?

My niece who previously complained that she could not afford her approx $450 per mo. lease on a Nissan Rogue has now turned it in 6 months early on a 2025 Pathfinder for approx $650 per mo. I don't get it.
It looks pretty nice as well as the interior. I think it is an SV with cloth seats, sunroof and captain chair option and seems pretty well equipped. MSRP I think is mid $40K. According to her the salesman's selling point was that it had a V-6 and 9 speed Auto as opposed to the 4 cyl VC turbo and CVT in the Rogue. Those engines are prone to failure and Nissan has recalled over 400,000 of them.

She says she likes it very much although she will probably find out it will get 7 or 8 less Mpg compared to the Rogue so with the increase cost of gas she will probably be paying close to $300 a month more. It won't take long before she starts complaining she cannot afford it.

The reason you don’t get it is you went to school before they taught “new math” and you don’t believe everything thing a car salesman tells you.

New Porsche Key FOB finally received, and they paid for the $180 programming at Porsche of San Diego. Why $180? High hourly rate and they did give me a car wash. It's nice when a business (particularly a car dealership) does the right thing. Are you listening Kia of El Cajon?

Chatting with my sister this weekend. Her oldest has moved home after getting two masters degrees. He’s landed a job teaching HS in the San Diego area, but about an hour drive from home.

After only one week, his 2014 Jetta has sprung a small oil leak, and is in need of brakes. It has over 100k on the odometer, and it’s going into the mechanic for an evaluation. Fingers crossed that it isn’t too serious (read: expensive), but he has been casually looking for a replacement.

While the Jetta is in the shop, he’s been driving my moms 2003 Sonata, and commented how much he likes it.

One of the possible replacements is the Honda Civic hybrid. He was concerned that the Honda was smaller, until I did a Google search and found this:

The 2003 Hyundai Sonata has the following dimensions:
        •    Length: 186.9 inches.
        •    Width (without mirrors): 71.7 inches.
        •    Height: 56.0 inches.
        •    Wheelbase: 106.3 inches.
    Interior dimensions
        •    Front Head Room: 39.3 inches.
        •    Rear Head Room: 37.6 inches.
        •    Front Leg Room: 43.3 inches.
        •    Rear Leg Room: 36.2 inches.
        •    Front Shoulder Room: 56.9 inches.
        •    Rear Shoulder Room: 55.7 inches.
        •    Front Hip Room: 55.8 inches.
        •    Rear Hip Room: 54.4 inches.
        •    Trunk Volume: 14.1 cubic feet.

The 2025 Honda Civic Sedan is a compact car that offers a surprising amount of interior space despite its size.
    Here are the key dimensions:
        •    Length: 184.8 inches
        •    Width: 70.9 inches
        •    Height: 55.7 inches
    Interior dimensions
        •    Passenger Volume: 99 cubic feet
        •    Cargo Volume: 14.8 cubic feet
        •    Headroom (front/rear): 39.3 / 37.1 inches
        •    Legroom (front/rear): 42.3 / 37.4 inches
        •    Shoulder Room (front/rear): 57.0 / 56.0 inches
        •    Hiproom (front/rear): 54.3 / 48.9 inches

My sister was shocked at how similar they are in size, and how todays “compact” was yesterdays “mid size”

Curious how they noticed an oil leak? Oil in the garage? Our favorite Audi/VW indy shop is now over $155/hour; no more cheap in San Diego.

Oh, it is not jacked up! It is just standard height four-wheel-drive F250 superduty. But, the V8 6.7L diesel is a monster of an engine, and the hood opening is too tall (probably close to 4') to be able to stand next to the truck and bend over to reach things in the engine bay.

My sister bought her XC40 from that dealership and had a great experience as well.

My sister lives in a fairly new house and any sort of drip or leak will be noticeable on the clean concrete driveway.

Tempting! I just have to remind myself that I don't want to deal with all the nannies, and they don't offer the manual transmission as an option at any trim anymore. I'm pretty sure I would end up pulling the fuse on the Eyesight system after about ten minutes behind the wheel.

    But, congrats all the same!

I would buy one of those before an ADX, though I would prefer the slightly smaller size. I bet my wife would like it too.

This is part of the sheet of the other one I negotiated on, which in this deal is maybe one of the lowest-priced Outbacks with option package 15 in the country. Let me explain. About three months ago Subaru raised prices on the Outback c. $1500+ bc of the tariffs. Although the Outback is built in the US, the engines and transmissions come from Japan.

Only a few of these "pre-tariff" Subarus are still on the lots. So this pre-tariff one below has a list of c. $37k, but the list of this Outback on most lots would be c. $38.5 or so. So the price I was offered of $32,445 was in a way not just $4500 off list, but more like $6k off of list...

Here it is. I actually like the Crystal White Pearl with off-white interior...
