    The library is your friend.

Correction: The library SHOULD be my friend, but unfortunately, I've been too busy/lazy to get over there. I read on Kindle, and I know you can check out e-books from the library. I have been on a free trial of Kindle Unlimited for a month, expires next month. Looking at the cost of the series that I'm interested in, I feel this might just be the prompt I need to get over there.

Our library system is terribly expensive but good. I can read Wall Street Journal and others with an online subscription through the library or read them through the library's system subscription.

Even car repair manuals can be read, although the most popular one may require now that folks go in to a library terminal to read the library group's subscription. Printouts and text saved to a USB are both available IIRC.

Library politicized itself, but I'll avoid that. Most things can be done online for ebooks to read at home. Picking up paper copies is all that requires going into the new buildings.

Offensive is that every checkout slip, paper in branch or online by email, states a cost for the book and states that the library "saved" me that amount of money, when actually the state funding is large out of Ohio tax monies along with local levies make it very expensive on a yearly tax basis.

it would be cheaper to buy the book on Amazon, read and return within 30 days. Which I would never do. Amazon is too good about everything that I really need to return. They even refunded by hearing aids cost because the hearing aid company wasn't fulfilling their one-year guarantee--that was after Amazon's 30-day total promise.

Haven't read any of those, but I'm on the last book of the series I'm reading, and desperately seeking another series to start, so I've put those on my wish list. I swear, the older I get, the more my book-buying budget outpaces my going-out budget.
After watching "Reacher" on Prime Video, I picked up one of the "Reacher" books by Lee Child entitled "The Enemy." It was very well written. I look forward to picking up another one (of many) in the series.

I've read every one of those books, and all of the "Prey" series, and the Harry Bosch series. When I had kids and more family local, I had less time to read and paced myself, so the next book in those series (and the others I religiously read) would often come out just at the right time for me. Not so much anymore. Good choice, though! There are quite a few in that series, so should keep you busy for awhile.

I just realized I'm a couple books behind in that series.

I've got every Reacher book, every Spenser book (even those penned after Robert B. Parker's death) and every Jack Ryan book (again, even those written by other authors after Clancy died).

Currently they (along with all the other books I have, about golf and cars and business) put away into cardboard boxes while the basement is getting finished, but there are two brand new bookcases waiting to be assembled in the garage when the project is finished so I can unbox them.

I've read, and reread, the Harry Bosch books by Michael Connelly and the Reacher
books by Child. It's sad that I actually had to reread many of them since I ran out
of newer material that I like. It was almost like reading them for the first time because I enjoyed them so much. I read other authors but not as avidly.

Linda Castillo who writes about Ohio Amish
country adventures with a police chief of a small NE Ohio town, Kate Burkholer who grew up
Amish but left the religion. J. A. Jance writes several series with various characters, but Joanna Brady, sheriff, in a New Mexico setting is my favorite.

I take any suggestions of similar authors and will check them out, literally.

    Pics or it didn’t happen.

Not sure what you current network setup is but if you can put Ethernet behind your TVs it’s a good step up in performance if you’ll be streaming. My theater room has the Roku hardwired and it works better than any other one in the house … this is despite a good mesh system that downloads at over 500 mb/s. Nothing beats hardwire.

Also - Change Orders are a contractor’s best friend.

So, since we use Apple TV quite a bit, that's going to get hardwired for the basement TV. Also likely to get 1 or 2 Eero pods (?) to help boost the wifi signal. The intention is to make the whole house better equipped for our entertainment and wifi usage.

Change orders - yes, we're aware of them. Fortunately, we haven't had any come up yet that we've initiated. The sight and sound guy recommended a conduit behind the drywall for the wiring, as that costs $69; if we wanted to do it after we were finished, it would run $4-500. Also looking at Sonos speakers for the basement, which the girls have at their cooking studio. The idea is to make it as clean a set up as we can.

And, as the cherry on top, the guy mentioned that they sell TVs and Soundbars under retail, as part of a deal with the basement company. I'm sure when that email comes in, the daughter will be poring over it intently. Her current TV in her bedroom is, I think 40 or 42", which is likely way to small for the space she's setting up. It's very possible that she'll get something mounted to the wall, even though she's bought a piece of furniture for the TV to reside on.

We aren't into gigantic TVs - I think the one in the family room is 50", and the one in my office is 47".

As far as pics go, I have about a 90 second "before" video of the space we're converting. I think once the plumbing, electrical and HVAC work is done, I'll take another video to show the progress.

Sounds great! Depending on which Eero or other mesh system you go with, many can be hardwired as well.

Since my network hub is in the basement I have one node hardwired down there and I get every bit of speed that I do on the main floor at the control unit. Upstairs node is wifi repeat and while it’s better than not having it not near the quality of the wired unit.

I agree to an extent, but many newer devices, especially low to mid priced ones, don't have an Ethernet port anymore. I used to be a huge proponent of hardwiring devices that never moved. I had an original Apple TV, and uploading videos to it from my desktop computer over 11 megabit wifi (which actually ran much slower) was painfully slow. Going hardwired solved that.

Now, I have eero, and all of my wireless stuff works really well.

when we built the new house we did not go heavy on automation stuff (since we would not likely use it). But we did homerun Ethernet to the family room TV spot, and both work desk locations. so each of our work laptops (for now!) and the main TV are wired up nice. I bout a pod setup, but Fios guy installed 2 wifi routers that do a good job blanketing the house so I never bothered to hook it up.

we are the dinos that don't have Alexa or Siri running the place, or any smart outlets or computer controls. We actually flip our own light switches.

I the wifi router in the basement with the Fios head unit is plugged in. The other is in our bedroom (far opposite end and floor of the house), and that is connected to a coax cable that they put in up there, and is connected to the Fios box also.

@Michaell ....I know you have a Sportage. Thoughts? Would you buy it again? Likes? Dislikes?

It's not mine - it's my daughters. She's had it one year and about 6000 miles. I drive it to put gas in it, and, yesterday, to the dealer for its first service.

It's tech laden, that's for sure. Digital dash, safety nannies galore. Pretty big inside compared to the competition. She loves it, though she drives it like @roadburner drives his C43. Which isn't bad, I suppose, except it's a hybrid and she's not getting the MPG she should. I drove it yesterday and was able to improve on the current tank by 1 MPG. Wife loves it since it's not the MINI.

The only thing I'm not thrilled about is the matte paint. When we bought it, I didn't realize that commercial car washes are a no no. Meaning it has to get hand washed with a special detergent. If we did it again, I'd find a different color, even if that meant getting a black interior (hers has a gorgeous red leather interior).
