Our new fancy hockey arena with 10,000 seats plus maybe another 1,000 (?) on the ice surface itself opened in 1978 and that meant a few more acts thought it was worthwhile making the trek to the Atlantic coast. I was early 20s back then so I caught a few shows. I remember some of them. Neil Young played here during his country phase, opened by The Judds. Not what anyone expected and most people were very disappointed that he played virtually none of his more popular stuff. Loverboy came at the peak of their early ‘80s popularity, but were overshadowed by their opening act, a young Bryan Adams, who was great. A couple of years later Tina Turner was here and really gave a great show. I saw the Beach Boys there, which was about what I expected, but got to see Brian Wilson wander on and off the stage to take part occasionally. The best by far was the last one I went to in the early ‘90s when Dire Straits gave a tremendous performance. I always liked Knopfler and he did not disappoint.

Recently I was digging through a box of old papers and found this:

No idea why I held onto that ticket. I tried finding out more about that Chicago tour. It is odd because they were on a very long concert tour at the time and were in Atlantic Canada about 6 weeks earlier but this one at the end of March was not listed anywhere. It was as if it never happened. I remember having floor seats fairly close to the stage and despite having Peter Cetera leave the group not long before they put on a great show. Jimmy Pankow (the trombone player) was a great showman.

Chicago has never stopped touring. We had a subscription to Riverbend amphitheater in Cincinnati, in the early ‘90s. Four concerts, each Summer. Mostly for Jimmy Buffett.

But, Chicago was one of the four, EVERY year. 🤦‍♂️

Doobie Brothers, '76, New Haven Colosseum. I was first to get a driver's license in my small circle of friends, needless to say we travelled in style to the show: '71 Saab 99!

Speaking of Bryan Adams, going to see him and Pat Benatar at Madison Sq. for Halloween. It'll be good to be in my 20s again.

I don’t remember the order I saw them in, but Boz Scaggs, The Allmann Brothers (before Duane died), Crosby Stills and Nash (minus Young, Crosby was so drunk he fell off the stage), The Band. In the college gym! Though now I remember CSN was outdoors, as were the Grateful Dead.

My semi-girlfriend was related to the promoter for the Chicago tour and got us front row tickets. Must have been around 1970.

If I had something like that I could prove to my sons that I was at the Steelers Immaculate Reception Game in 1972.

At the time, Three Rivers Stadium held 50,350 people. If you stood on a downtown Pittsburgh street corner and ask folks my age if they went to that game, 200,000 people would say, “yeah, I was at that game”. It’s because of folks like that my sons say, “if you don’t have your ticket stub, you can’t prove you were there or even bought a ticket stub from someone who was”.

I have been told that I went to see Bryan Adams in the early 80s during college. But don't remember going. I do remember seeing the Band play at our school. One of their last shows I think, and right after they came back together in 1984.

I'm not a huge concertgoer, but enjoyed seeing Taylor Swift in NOLA about this time last year. It was kind of an impromptu trip, so I had to pay a scalper price for my ticket in the "cheap" seats. I definitely had a bit of remorse every time she played a song that wasn't one of my favorites, though. Still love her music, and loved the spectacle of the show, but not sure I'd go again. It was very peopley. I've never seen the Quarter that clean, and probably never will again!

My first was when I was 14. Taken with some parents friends older teenager kids. Around 1969 to see the Four Tops in Asbury Park (I think).

I’ll be seeing that show in November when they’re in Denver. And I’ll confess to being a long-time megafan. A couple years ago my wife and I planned a trip to London to see him perform three nights at Royal Albert Hall, where he played certain albums in their entirety.

I've been to eight of those..

I was pretty poor during what would have been my main concert years. I had acquaintances that went to every single arena show, no matter what.. So, not as many for me, though the list is probably close to that long. Of course, as an adult, taking my son, we pay outrageous sums to see concerts (because we can).

I remember my (ex) wife paid $100 a ticket for the Hell Freezes Over tour by the Eagles at Riverbend. I thought that was OUTRAGEOUS, until I see what they are getting at the Sphere in Las Vegas these days.

I'm sure you know this. Frampton was married to a Cincinnati lady for a bit. So, he lived in Indian Hill (rumored to be a neighbor of one of the Browns....Bengals fame). He would pop up all over town to play, usually for free.

Had Season Tickets for RiverBend for a while. Jimmie Buffet was a regular every year.

Fleetwood Mac (Rumors Tour) and Springsteen (3.5 hour concert) played Millet Hall at Miami U, where I was a student at the time. Was a poor student myself. But, if you volunteered as an usher, you got in to see the show for free. The downside to that gig was you also had to clean up after the concert. There are some pretty gross people who live among us...particularly college students.

Bob Dylan concert was terrible. Nickelback was even worse. (Both at Riverbend).

Moody Blues played Timberwolf (Kings Island). Great Concert.

Rickie Lee Jones played Ludlow Garage...also great!

I would have loved to see the Hell Freezes Over tour! I still love listening to the DVD of it in DTS even though the picture stinks.

Actually saw him at THE PRECINCT (Cincinnati upscale restaurant) dining with an entourage several years ago.

Lots of highlights that concert. But, Joe Walsh trading licks with Don Felder on Hotel California and Joe Walsh playing Funk #49 and Rocky Mountain Way were just awe inspiring.

As Nike would say, "Just Do It"!

I saved the golf ball and scorecard from my first (and so far, only) hole in one, circa 2007. Kept them in a box pretty much since then.

Finally got off my duff and took them into a local trophy shop, where they mounted them and made a nice plaque commemmorating the event.

This was just a year or two ago.

It now sits on the windowsill in my office.

Jeez, I don’t have the patience to remember all of the concerts , but as I appear to be a relative young pup here, maybe no one’s heard of any of them.

One weird one was Oasis, their morning glory album was huge in the UK and they were doing a US tour for it, somehow they got booked in some weird side building at the Seattle Center. Not what was then Key Arena, not even the what is now mccaw hall. But a true out building that accommodated a few hundred. I always wondered who got fired after that one. Especially when their reunion tour is selling out Wembley multiple days. My buddy snuck in a flask, which was a coup when you’re 19.

Speaking of holes-in-one, I managed to do that just this past August while in Oregon. I was playing a round of disc golf with my brother, father, wife, and daughter. This was a small nine-hole course in the community park. Last hole, I let 'er rip, the disc flew true and managed to catch some wind just in such a way as to keep on sailing for far longer than it should have, then just gently banked right, around a tree, and *cha-ching!* into the basket.

It was a thing of beauty with lots of high-fives all around. The best part, though, is that I went first on that hole, so talk about a tough act to follow!
