She saw me, came over mid song, asked me for a swig, which I, of course gave her. She smiled and winked, gave me back the flask.

When their set was done, she came off stage right by where we were standing. She grabbed the flask, took another swig, gave me a sweaty kiss on the cheek and said "Thanks, Doll"! Still remember her scent.....sweat, cheap perfume. She left glitter on my cheek, to boot.

I was awe struck, dumb founded, excited, all rolled into one. I tried to follow them into their dressing room but a very large and hairy man shoved me away like I was a twig. LOL!

Remember it like it was yesterday.

I only have two rock musician stories to relate. Back in the late ‘80s a group from work went out at the end of day on a Friday to a bar for some beers. Now, for some reason I never did understand fully, the manager of the place, who was a young guy around my age, always mistook me for someone else, I believe either one of the investors or a bank guy they dealt with. Anyway, he was always quite friendly to me and whoever was with me, giving us front of the line access and whatnot. I wasn’t about to correct him.

The place was a bar downstairs and a cabaret/show bar upstairs which back then brought in some well-known acts, especially Canadian acts. One night our group was downstairs having beers when he came over and asked if we would be OK if Larry Gowan joined us. He’s now known as Lawrence Gowan, lead singer and keyboard player for Styx, having replaced Dennis DeYoung some years ago. At the time Larry was having some success here as a solo artist and had a couple of hit records. So he brought him to our table, and he turned out to be just a great guy. When he got summoned to go up to the main room to get ready for his show after having a few beers with us, he took us up there through the kitchen and up some back stairs before telling us to have a great evening. He put on a fine performance that night. Just something right out of the blue.

The other encounter happened right out front of the same place a few years later. At the time I was taking the bus to and from work and the nearest stop was right in front of that place. I’m standing there waiting when I turn around to see a face I recognized just hanging around. It was Burton Cummings, a legendary singer up here, former lead of The Guess Who, then a solo act, who was playing there that night. We had a bit of a conversation and he was very pleasant to talk to.

That reminds me of the Stone Temple Pilots concert I went to with my friends at Nassau Coliseum. 4 Jews from the NY suburbs. I went to Ithaca College, one guy went to U of Miami (FL), the other went to Boston University. The 4th went to the University of Kentucky. We were home on Thanksgiving break and hadn’t seen each other since we left for college in August. Three of us are dressed in flannel and loose jeans. The guy that went to Kentucky came with a cowboy type shirt, tight jeans, and authentic cowboy boots. We all said hello and hugged and are all thinking; Jesus, look what a few months in Kentucky has done to Dan. We sat down and my friend that went to University of Miami looks at Dan and jokingly says: “Where’s your flask?” Seconds later Dan reaches into his boot and pulls one out.

Did see Grand Funk Railroad back in 1970 after moving to Florida. It was at Pirates World in Dania Florida, long gone, just south of the Ft. Lauderdale airport. It started to pour so they handed out black garbage bags so we could stay dry. They worked as it was like a hurricane there was so much rain!

A friend, after graduating, got a job on Wall St (trading bonds, he said he'd be retired and a millionaire by 30. Missed it by that much...). He drove in daily from Ridgefield, CT. I told him he was nuts, driving his new Golf (that's why MetroNorth was invented) into the heart of the cold, cold city; city driving, parking, vandalism, theft...
"I know the city; I know where to park." Unfortunately, so did the thieves, after the third smash and grab he simply left a note in the window noting nothing of value inside, please stop breaking his window. He didn't replace the (second? third?) stolen radio. I think he may have even left it unlocked.

Lost track of him after I moved to Boston, but I was told he became rather disillusioned with Wall St, and ultimately quit and moved to LA. Why LA? He met a girl...

Left for Florida today back in 1969 and left New York for good. Remember it was a Tuesday afternoon and what a mess. My mom didn't want to go so her friends came over to pack her up. My grandparents stayed until the movers left, they were to move down the end of the month. Two cars filled with stuff. My dad and older brother in the '69 Toronado and my twin, dog & mom in her '68 Eldorado. Arrived in Ft. Lauderdale Thursday night at dinner time. Was a whole new world for me as I'd never been here before.
56 years later, and we're still here. Well me only, as all the rest have passed. Will be strange to move. Daughter & wife are already actively looking for new places. Might end up with a 3-car garage which would be cool. Both girls are looking online plus our daughter is touring places as we speak. Got a feeling that our time frame might move up to end of 2026 or early 2027. But, that's fine with me honestly as I'm about at the point where I'd like to quit work completely as I'm just not feeling so great and having more bad days then good!

My first concert was when I was about five with my Mom to see Pete Seeger. Later saw Elton John, the English Beat, the Clash, and so on. But so many I missed. Interesting to see the other bands that people have caught over the years and decades.

Was listening to SiriusXM in my Acura a few weeks ago and heard this song on xmu. The lead singer of this band Pulp is about my age of sixty, and yet still collaborating on making a good hit song called Spike Island, which is new for this year. I like this live version with his eccentric hand gestures lol.

We saw a band in the late 80s or early 90s which included Ringo Star, some members of GFR and a few other rock bands. They played some Beatles tunes, some GFR and songs from the other member’s original bands. I wish I could remember the name of the group because it was truly entertaining.

some of you have been to a lot more shows than me! Not counting ones at college (some of which I almost remember!) the first major stadium show (Meadowlands, Giants stadium) in 1984 was Roger Waters (post-Floyd). Others since then I remember were the Everly brothers (and someone else, simon and Garfunkle?) and Springsteen I think 5 times in different places.

Same here. Not much of a concert goer. Since I’ve lived in Colorado I’ve seen Sting at Red Rocks (fantastic venue), Barenaked Ladies, and Elton John, when he did an acoustic tour playing some of his lesser known songs.

The Club Sport is back in my garage after three weeks at my indie shop GermanTech MotorWorks. As expected with a thirty year-old car additional work was required but in the end the car is running very well and it's locked and loaded for the BMW CCCA Anniversary tour.

My i5 has been in the shop for a week now and is now expected to be ready next week.

At least I wasn’t imagining the A/C not working properly. Here’s the message I got from the service guy…

Our technician upon furhter inspection of the a/c system did find debris and BMW wants everything but the a/c lines to be replaced and the lines flushed/cleaned. The short story is we have parts coming for its repair and it will be early next week before repairs are completed. We will make it 100% correct before it is back on the road.

Again, I’m glad it’ll be fixed, but a little disconcerting that a brand new vehicle has these issues. Although, I had A/C issues in my X5 a couple years back too.

Did you get a loaner from the dealership? You don’t want to be without proper transportation on Tuesdays for 2 consecutive weeks!

All kidding aside. That stinks. It’s 2025. Brand new cars shouldn’t have air conditioning issues.

No matter how I adjusted the climate control (max a/c, adjusting the temp all the way down to LOW, etc.) the fan speed would increase but the air flow was not cooled.

I was going to just wait for the first service due since we’re into the fall season, but there was an 80 degree day a couple weeks ago and a routine errand to Costco was pretty uncomfortable.

My X5 I had a couple years ago (it was the PHEV, so not sure if that had anything to do with it) exhibited the same symptoms. That time it was on a 2 hour drive home from a baseball tournament in the middle of the summer after the car had been sitting out in the hot sun. That was very unpleasant.

Yeah - I figured it was going to take several days to address, so booked an appointment with a loaner. Got an i4 xdrive40, which is fun to drive, but not as nice as the i5.

When you say everything thing I assume that means the evaporator. To replace the evaporator usually means dismantling a lot of the dash. That is a PITA job and folks I’ve talked that have had that done say they always had problems with something after that was done. I’ll also assume the evaporator was not leaking. That being the case I’m surprised BMW didn’t opt to flush the evaporator too since it’s a passive device with no moving parts. Here’s hoping whoever is doing the work is damn good at it.

If that was a Ford product I’d blame the blend door.

The usual source of debris in the system is either metal shavings due to premature wear in the compressor (lubrication issues), or possibly just a manufacturing defect in which some part of the system wasn't cleaned properly from the factory and then that manufacturing debris gummed up the works.

Either way, pretty crumby. I would agree with just flushing the evaporator, too, if it weren't for the pressure switch usually being co-located there.

I don’t know what you mean by “the pressure switch being co-located there”. I’ve never seen any components mounted in the evaporator. They have always been external and somewhat easily replaced but I’ve never looked at a BMW system.

I have seen that the rule of thumb is once debris get into the system, you need to replace all the pieces that can get contaminated, and flush the heck out of the pipes, etc. especially if the compressor locked up and grenaded.

It only takes a couple of minutes to do a quick flush of the evaporator. If after a few minutes there is still junk being purged, that’s when I’d say replace the evaporator. Many folks in here don’t want a car that has been in an accident that caused a lot of sheet metal damage. I don’t want a car that had the dash removed to get at the evaporator. I’d trade that thing in as soon as I got it back.

the evaporator is part of the lines, etc. that gets flushed. Replaced with a compressor is all the stuff under the food. expansion valve, condenser, accumulator, the little filters. all that stuff that gets contaminated.

OK, here is what I found on the internet about replacing a 2025 BMW i5 evaporator:

Extensive labor required: Because of its buried location, replacing the evaporator core is a labor-intensive job that involves removing the entire dashboard and steering wheel.

If anyone in here is comfortable having that done to their car, you’re a lot braver than I am.

Happened to see this underhood shot in Sarah -n- Tuned's 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander review:

It appears to have the same hole with a "pipette" hose underneath for gauging the washer fluid level as the Ariya, so perhaps it's a Japanese brand thing? This is one area where I would prefer an idiot light, especially in the Ariya where the car could conceivably go years without the hood being opened.

Did forget Simon & Garfunkel and on vacation in California in 1982, got tickets to see America & Linda Ronstadt at Universal as we were staying right next door at a big hotel outside the grounds. That famous Greek actor was living there with his family at the time, Telly Savallos I think. His mom would come to eat in all black I remember, very strange.

I would say so. They’re predicting a 70 degree Sunday and you can bet I will find some excuse to drive the convertible one last time before it goes away for winter.

Yes, Telly lived at the Sheraton-Universal for 20 years in a suite. I guess, why not? He had the money, they had a nice bar and a restaurants and room service, so if it worked for him, go ahead. It wasn't/isn't an unusual thing for celebs to live in hotels. Their lifestyle isn't always compatible with home ownership and I can see that some might like the freedom it provides if money isn't an issue.
