I really have learned to appreciate wireless Android Auto to display navigation and traffic.

If you are familiar with Charlotte you probably know this location where I work. It's 5 days in the office and 5 days wfh. I hope that doesn't change to all days in the office.

    ——————————————————
Even when I was a working stiff I never had to put up with that kind of traffic twice daily.

When I lived in SC for 5 years, I drove back to the Burgh many times. I remember taking I-20 out of SC and hit I-77 North just into NC. I drove past the football stadium on my right. I don’t think I ever rode by there when there wasn’t construction. Is that still a work-program?

Well, the saga of the Kia recall is over. After being told “it’s almost ready” this morning and giving them another 4 hours I showed up at the dealer and was told “not ready and the tech is out to lunch”. Finally got the call 2 hours later and retrieved the car after 10 DAYS! That’s got to be some kind of record for a recall that only required an inspection and no parts.

Needless to say, I won’t be patronizing that dealer ever again.

It was interesting here that our Provincial govt recently rescinded all WFH arrangements and forced civil servants to return to the office. As a former civil servant myself I never particularly liked WFH for my employees because I practiced management by walking around, but the work mostly got done by those who practiced WFH though perhaps not as effectively as I would have liked. Most of my people were road warriors anyway so it made little difference to them. This recent change by our govt is more than likely due to having to justify having lots of expensive leased office space downtown and keeping those landlords happy.

My old office very strongly resisted having fully remote employees for a long time (but one day a week in the office was okay?). Corporate has since downsized their office space and they were forced to allow and encourage fully remote work. At my new place, my entire department is fully remote.

With the COVID lunacy almost everyone one in my office worked from home. I went to the office almost every day because if I was working from home I would invariably get a call from a defense attorney wanting to conference a case that I had left at the office.
When everyone was allowed back in the office my position was that I didn't care where anyone on my staff worked as long as the work was done properly and on time.

I waste 2-3 hours a day commuting when 75% of my interaction is with people half way across the world.

In my WFH days I’m up early and getting quick answers from overseas when they are still awake may times shaving a day or more off dwell times… but yet I need to sit in my office 4 days a week

That was exactly my situation when I was working, except it was more like 95% rather than 75%, besides which I was on the road 30-50% of the time. My management had zero issues with me working from the Forest Lakes cabin, but they were overruled by corporate not long before I retired. Just one of several reasons I pulled the pin.

I got to the Florida place on Saturday - one good thing, they got an inch of snow on Sunday.
There are a million things to do to set up, change clocks, clean as much as possible, put air in the tires, get groceries, set up TV, internet, etc., change furnace filters and refrigerator filter.
A 1000 things and I was ready for a hot shower before going to dinner next door.......and I forgot to turn on the hot water tank!!!!!!!!!!
Ever actually have a cold shower, it isn't my idea of fun! :#

This probably depends a lot on the way water is supplied in a given municipality, but even here in the frozen part of the country 1,000 miles north of Miami, in the summer, I can generally turn the faucet down to almost 100% cold once I get the water flushed out of my house's pipes.

I hear about people in The Villages complaining that the cold water gets too hot in the summer... Maybe someone can sell them a reversible water heater! All you'd probably need with one of those new heat pump water heaters is a reversing valve for the refrigerant.

Easy answer: those little hotel-size wrapped bars of soap are expensive and essentially single-use because you unwrap it, take your shower, and then check out and leave, so housekeeping has to throw it away and give the next occupant a freshly wrapped new soap. The liquid shower gel dispensers just get refilled every few days. Saves them lots of $$$. The bean-counters score another win. :#

The motel we like in Pigeon Forge puts little bars, one body, one face, along with a tiny bottle of body wash, one of shampoo, and one of conditioner. Motel caters to the older clientel year around.
    People can choose.

At home, I learned I like the scent of a Suave body wash for men. It leaves a pleasant, woody scent that's light. I use my Dial bar first, though.

How about identity theft? I think you were talking about somebody forging checks the other day. Well, I got a taste of that medicine yesterday when someone used my credit card to charge stuff in Florida. They did 8 sub one dollar charges at some sporting goods store and then the big one, a $1024 charge at a Marine supply shop in Tampa. Fortunately, the credit union fraud squad noticed and alerted me. The only problem is my card is frozen and it’ll take 7-10 days to get a new card. I’m guessing that I’m not responsible for any of the charges but I can’t contact the CU because they’re closed for Veterans Day.

First time this has happened in over 50 years of card use.

A nice thing about building a new house right about at retirement age. You can expect to pretty do nothing to it for a long time. And if it finally starts needing repairs and updates it should be time to dump it and move to a retirement villa.

And speaking of dishwashers, the new Kitchen Aid is currently undefeated in washing dishes. Really putting the Covid GE Profile to shame.

I’m sure I mentioned this before.

A little over a year ago we had to replace our 13 year old Samsung dishwasher that just stopped working one day. Off to the 2 big box places I went along with a mom and pop place. The guy at the mom and pop place suggested a specific Maytag model but he couldn’t get it for about a month. Lo and behold Lowe’s had that model so I got it there. About 2 appliances away from the Maytag was a Kitchen Aid. I bopped back and forth between the 2 comparing just about everything, tub, controls, layout, upper and lower racks, you name it, I compared the 2 of them. Turns out they were identical except that the Kitchen Aid was more upscale and had 2 more buttons. I have to believe that the control boards were the same too. Just had an additional connector or two wired out for the additional buttons. The Maytag was at least 500 bucks less. Those 2 dishwashers had to come off the same assembly line. I’m sure the Kitchen Aid commands more money because of the name.

FWIW, I installed our first dishwasher back in the early 70s. It was a Kitchen Aid and I was insistent about getting a Kitchen Aid because back then they were clearly the best. Had to replace the mechanical timer about a year before we moved in 1989. No telling how much longer that thing lasted. Today, there are several dishwasher brands that I’d consider.

    Anything goes!

Yep, it is a bar of soap for me.

Well, at least give me credit - introducing a new topic....we have gone where C&C has never gone before.

@oldfarmer50 Sorry to hear about that. I am in Florida but I don't know anything about your credit card, and I don't own a boat, Sea doo, mini boat or any kind of marine equipment.

    btw....that's not me!

That reminds me.........does anyone prefer that body soap in a container that you have to apply using your hand?
I like an actual bar of soap. It is easier to tell I have used it everywhere and it doesn't trickle through my fingers and get lost. Motels like the liquid body soap stuff...it is not as messy.
What's that rule about if it don't need fixing.....just leave it! :D:):)

Great explanation and the comments were good to read...I'm not the only one who doesn't get body soap. By the time I squeeze it onto my hand, it gets washed away by the shower water.
I also read that that when hotels leave you those cards that say to reuse your towels to save the environment....it is more to save them from washing towels.
So much is a rip off these days. I had free security for my desktop computer at home...I think it is AVG, now they want to charge me.
I had some kind of plan for $100 a year with HP that they would fix my computer if there was a problem, actually any HP computer. I had a problem, they fixed it, now they have a lifetime plan they will do any repairs and any updates, for $400 for a lifetime. How do they know if they will be around or if updates will be impossible for a 3rd party computer company to install?
Everything is becoming a rip off....they try to sign you up to get monthly fees....companies love to hook their customers into a regular payment plan - it produces a steady stream of money!.

My Win10 and Win 11 computers have free security, Windows Security. It's part of the built-in operating system.
