I was just wondering how many of the turkeys in here are going to be deep fried. :p

Anyway, have a Happy Thanksgiving until the end. :'(

Depends on what you mean. The turkey was brined and roasted. My wife was in charge of Thanksgiving cocktails so I was kinda brined and roasted myself.

No turkeys up here in Canuckistan, as our Thanksgiving was last month. Hope yours south of the 49th parallel are all going well.

What could be the last nice day for a while here as all the weather alarmists are jumping up and down about an upcoming cold snap next week with a potentially big snowfall. We shall see. As it was, I spent the day lunching and talking with friends at the Royal NS yacht squadron, la de la, in the company of some upper-crust members of local society and looking at their impressive collection of well-polished silver trophies from a century or more ago. A bit of a different world for sure.

She mentioned 5”. I need to measure ours to see what they are which is what she wants. I told her about repainting. And she will hire someone to do the install. I did a room of quarter round once 20+ years ago and that was enough. Removal, that we can do.

That particular project may not happen for a while.

The Jeep is at the dealer until further notice. There is a nice line of them in the back lot. Both workplaces are towing Jeep GC and Wrangler hybrids from the garage, so there isn’t a functional way for us to use it. Remedy won’t be announced until Q1 and then don’t know how long for parts.

Jeep authorized a loaner, but the guidelines for it are fuzzy and I have to front the money for it. Waiting for clarification before I jump on that and how long I need to settle for what amounts to a compact car in terms of rental allowance.

@28firefighter - that is not good customer service, I remember Chevy making a similar bungle when the Bolts were recalled for battery replacement, although I don't think they authorized a rental.

Missed turkey day due to the vertigo making a return appearance. Am a very unhappy camper right now as am basically stuck either lying down or in my recliner. What sucks is I never know when it's going to come, last bout was in May of 2024 and was out of work 5 weeks. And this time, I fell in the closet trying to get to my walker. The cane went in one direction and I, in another. Landed on my butt and left shoulder and the butt is very painful right now. Needless to say, am very unhappy about this turn of events and being a holiday weekend, no doctors were open Friday. It's not an emergency so going to a hospital wasn't going to happen. Just thought I was over this nonsense already after so many years...been happening since 2020. Just want my life back!!! Worst part was having to cancel our turkey dinner at our favorite place! Look forward to going every year as the food is delicious and I always get 2 meals out of it, they give so much food to eat. Felt bad for my wife but she was just as happy to stay home and find stuff here as she could see I was in rough shape.

Just glad it didn't happen earlier. Wednesday morning, woke up to my iPhone frozen on a certain page. Couldn't get it to do anything. Should've did a Duck Duck Go search but went over to the Consumer Cellular store and luckily they knew how to get it to turn off and reboot itself. Boy, sure found out how much we rely on our cell phones...first time mine ever did this. So far, we're quite pleased with the overall service from Consumer Cellular and their staff. Now, just need to find a way to move my most important phone numbers to someplace in my iPad in case this happens again. I went into panic mode before going over to CC, luckily they have an office right near our house. It's tough to get an appointment at the Apple store for the same day but they are great at getting things straightened out quickly. Always lots of folks there and walk-in's aren't easy. And being the day before a major holiday, just lucky CC knew what to do to get my phone working again! Still have my iPhone 12, but it had no power left in it. It's always something in life!!!

    Happy Holidays everyone.

I’m sorry vertigo hit you around the holidays. I had one bout with it years ago and it was bad enough I panic if I feel the slightest bit dizzy for a second.

We bought a 25 Equinox EV in March. The telematics recently went out. The part is on back order. The dealer gave the car back to us. It runs, but the NAV is out and the car can’t communicate with the Chevrolet app. We miss our Tesla. Kind of regret getting rid of it.

That really sucks! Hopefully it passes quickly.

Holiday started off great and then my mom called hysterical last night. My stepdad’s sister passed suddenly of a heart attack. She is my Mother’s best friend as well as sister in law. She is very shaken. We were down the shore and headed up home this morning to be with her.

There is something to be said about just going out to a great dinner on the holidays and just relaxing with the family.

We all put too much pressure on ourselves with huge parties… the cooking the cleanup etc etc.

No one is more guilty of it than my wife and I. We usually host everything. Last Christmas Eve I took everyone to eat in the city and I thoroughly enjoyed it … but my wife said it didn’t feel like the holidays. Well.. we are back to cooking. Her birthday is Christmas Day so I’m not fighting it!

we have hosted Thanksgiving for decades. Our 1 big event. My wife's brother and wife have a huge, fancy house and normally host Christmas and other holidays. but at this point I think it is getting to be too much for them. They used to have more people stay over but cut back on that, and now that we are up local we are doing Christmas eve too.

It’s especially hard when illness comes at the holidays. I remember that my dad passed two days before Christmas which made it a particularly gloomy holiday.

On a more positive note I cooked Thanksgiving dinner this year and nobody died.

So I've had a good run not being sick but it came on so suddenly this time. Just wears me out and means time missing work which I hate. But such is life I guess and we'll get over it eventually.

got bored today so came up with a new gameplan. Trade the RDX in on a CPO loaner X1, and sell the Maverick and Lease a Taco. And pocket some cash.

saves me needing to buy a new battery for the truck (to hopefully cure the constant deep sleep issues which are annoying). And gets something fancy and funish for everyday use with all the modern goodies (the BMW).

The Tacoma would be the winter beater for salt duty. Plus, with the princess buying a house nearby in December, there is going to be a lot of truck work to be done, and possibly some need to pull a trailer. A frontier (the wife liked those at the car show!) or even a Ranger would be an acceptable alternative. Whichever one leased the best assuming we liked them equally.

This seems like a bullet proof plan to me! And the wife comes out ahead, so she would mind.

The winter use issue came to mind since snow season started, and already hit salted roads. Worrying about that drives me nuts, and right now, I don't want to take either car out when the roads are brined. A lease truck instead of a winter beater car that my wife would hate covers multiple needs.

I see no holes in this plan, so I expect y'all to also be on board.

Buy yourself a CTEK battery tender for the Maverick and save yourself a bundle. I’m not a fan of the X1, but that’s just me. I think a CPO RDX might suit you better.

I already have a used RDX, so could just keep that one if I wanted one!

and if I have to keep a nearly new car that I use regularly (not daily) on a tender to have dome lights, I am not keeping it because no way should I need to do that.

I thought the Maverick was the perfect car for a Tacoma, for you?

You know, you can just buy the X1 and trade the RDX. You don't have to make it even up.

I don't think they ever did a recall, just a special service memo (basically a TSB). The last 2 times I complained about it they tested the battery and said it was good, and did nothing else. I do have a recall for Sync but there is not fix yet for that one.

maybe in Q1 when I have some free time I will make an appointment to leave it just for that (not even close to needing an oil change) and discuss the SSM with the service advisor (it is a software update to the AC module to keep it from staying awake and doing a parasitic draw). At this point, I hope they fail the battery and put in the AGM it should have always had, and fix the battery maintenance settings to support it. Maybe that and the software update will finally take care of the issue.

Knock wood, in 2.5 years, this has been the only issue with it, and it is more of an annoyance.

@stickguy - on the surface, I think your plan makes sense.

    But, consider this:

    1. You have one grandchild now - do you expect there to be more? If so, the X1 may be too small to haul the little 'uns around, with all their stuff.
    2. Finding an X1 equipped like your RDX may be harder than you realize - BMWs can be optioned, er, oddly, and the color combinations are somewhat limited.

Not trying to talk you out of it, just food for thought. @breld can tell you about that - we've had many conversations, both via text and in person, where I use my "voice of reason". He always listens, doesn't mean he will always take my point of view.

can't say about colors, but the ones I saw online (new, not CPOs, have not really looked at that) seem to mostly be equipped like I would want. Forget the names, but basically the premium package. And a spare tire but I do see that sometimes and often it can be added. Tow hitch is nice but not essential with a truck around.

in theory we will have more grandkids. when and which couple has them is TBD. But not worried about needing a big car to haul them around! if we can manage 2 at a time, should be fine.

OK, cool. I've been looking at used (non-CPO) BMWs as well, just for kicks.

Found a nice 2015 M235i with RWD and a stick shift - 51,000 miles for about $24K. Would work for all but about a month or so of the year, and I'd have the Outback to use on those days. Still can't convince myself that a 3rd car is necessary in our household.

You haven’t met today’s giant car seats. We had 2 small cars before the grandkids arrived. I tried renting a van but in our area it’s hard to guarantee you’ll get one. And we seem to be going back and forth a lot. So we decided to go bigger. The Blazer will seat 5 even with 2 car seats in.

I know the seat they have. If I end up getting one for us it would be something more compact I assume. Though I don't think theirs is as big as some are.

I don't think my wife would have a problem with an X3 if I tried to force one on her though.

since I was scheming, I decided to check Carvana. About the same offer they have been doing the last 6 months or so (after a major drop in 1 week) which still seems low to me. So I ran it through Carmax for a change and they actually gave me an offer (last time I did it they said "bring it in we need to look at it). Exactly $5,000 higher than Carvana. Amazing 2 sites doing the same thing could be that far apart. But if I did need to sell it now, I know where it would be going!

@stickguy - Carmax also gave me "bring it in we need to look at it" on the Ariya, but I was able to get other data indicating it was a good deal to buy it at the end of its lease.

A couple of months ago, I got quotes from Carmax and Carvana for my F-150.
Got a pretty low quote form Canvana and a "Bring it in" for Carmax.
So far, I've only found 1 other truck in the same configuration online within 200 miles and they are asking $1400 more than I paid out the door new. It does have 1K less miles than I have now.
