I would be shocked if the lobbying didn't include payoffs.

not surprised to see more rear end collisions. If I know there are cameras and hit an intersection going yellow, I will likely slam on the brakes instead of going through like I would at a "clean" intersection.

Traffic lights control ingress not egress. So, if a light is yellow and you cannot safely come to a stop before the intersection, the right choice is to enter it on yellow and proceed through with caution.

We have access to LPR data at work, it's super helpful in investigating potential insurance fraud. People who hit a deer, add full coverage to their policy, and then report the deer hit that miraculously occurred days after they added the new coverage, are getting caught. As well as other people who are inclined to be untruthful to take advantage of a situation.

Maybe, but I am in Florida and every time I go on Gmail I get about 5 ads, today for Wynn Dixie, We Buy Cars, Bits and Pieces Puzzles, Hoover Institution-whatever that is....a learning Institute for vacuum cleaners? I guess I went on some site and they sold my name to every [non-permissible content removed] company. I sure won't buy anything from someone sending me unsolicited emails.

Gmail "learns" whenever you mark a sender as junk so over time those should get sent to a folder you never see unless you want to.

Exactly. I have to choose to block the ad, press and do a few steps, and they won't send the same ad again, big deal. It's like Guacamole, I get rid of 4 and 5 more ads appear......I will not buy from someone I didn't ask to send me information.

Is this happening on a laptop or computer? Which browser are you using? I use Brave and it filters out a lot of obnoxious stuff. If I use chrome or firefox mozilla to visit the same sites, I get ads and popups and lots of nuisance stuff.

On Android phones, I know I get warnings from some sites if I'm using Opera because it has ad blockers an the sites want me to turn them off.

I think having cameras is excellent.... just not for snapshot-based traffic citations, because they have zero context. I remember watching an article about the... Denver?... area, where they have cameras that enforce access to HOV lanes (all the time, not just when the actual HOV lane is "open"). People will get citations any time they cross the solid white lines separating from the rest of the freeway, even if they are doing something like avoiding a collision or obstacle! There was apparently a situation at one point where a bad crash had first responders re-routing traffic around the site by directing them to the far right shoulder and the HOV lane on the left. Many hundreds of drivers received citations. LOL

They show up as if they are emails, not ads along the sides. It is making Gmail almost unusable.

I looked on gmail.com and signed into my email there, and there's a vertical row of 3 dots at right side above the first email. One of the choices is to filter emails like this one that it's next to, and I did not follow, but I suspect filters can be set to recognize those as spam.

On signing into gmail.com, google tried to make me give them a new recovery email and my home address. Nope, they don't need that info to sell to someone.

You can filter out regular emails...if you don't like the sender you can filter them out using their email address and/or using key words in their email.
These are different, when I get one, let's say it is for the Hoover Institute, you can press BLOCK that sender, and it usually does BLOCK that one though sometimes they try using a different sending address. Somehow....I got on the sucker list.

I have a folder called "Not Inbox" where things like Cars & Bids emails and things where the unsubscribe button doesn't work get filtered.

There are convictions in Chicago for that very payoff thing you mentioned. Guaranteed Chicago wasn't an outlier, other than some people got caught and prosecuted, whereas in many jurisdictions prosecutors may have looked the other way.

I wasn't getting these at home on my desktop, but I take my laptop to Florida and they are appearing here. That makes me wonder, I used the free wi-fi at the airport, that could be the cause of the problem. Maybe they provide free wi-fi, but they sell your email address.
I use Chrome and I have an ad blocker at home, but not on the laptop, but I don't get many pop-ups or ads on the laptop.

The only way to crack down on this nonsense is to charge any false allegations the same as you or I would be charged for making a false report and serious allegation/charge against someone. It's not just a "mistake" or "administrative" error. It's a system inherently designed to maximize revenue forsaking accuracy and legitimacy. The other abomination is attempting to hold the owner accountable for what should be 100% on the driver. It is the "State" after all, that is presumably licensing that driver.

There are most definitely "pros" to the tech. On the flip side there are stories where people find themselves in dangerous predicaments from overly aggressive law enforcement with potential trigger fingers that may treat someone like an armed murderer and criminal based on a faulty LPR reading.

That’s how they got around the whole prove it in court requirement that applies to real traffic tickets. They classify camera tickets to be non offender (like parking tickets) so the get sent to the registered owner.

And that one occurance more than paid back the kick-back that the camera outfit made to the State of Colorado to get approval for the camera system.

As I have the option on that car, I always have the temp set to Celcius. I enjoy the conversion process with the kids, and it helps keep me sharp on being able to do that quickly since I pass through Canada so frequently.

For reference, I did choose the -40C display strategically simply because it is effectively the same temperature in either scale at that point.

The dealer replaced the left rear strut under warranty. They said it was leaking.

I then had a "clunk" when I hit a pothole, manhole cover, speed bump. After about 2 weeks, waiting to see if the suspension need time to "relax" they replaced to right rear strut. I told them it was probably a loose fastener or end link/bushing, yada yada, but they wanted to replace the other one.

As I was leaving the dealer and pulled out onto the highway I was greeted with a clunk.

Now the circus will begin.

Highly recommend Discount Tire. Free repairs, tire rotation, and balances for the life of the tires. Bought my Vredestein Tires there about a year ago. Ordered from TireRack ( which they own), delivered to the Discount Tire nearest me.

Picked up a nail in my front tire a couple weeks ago. Drove in that day and they patched it while I waited. When done they spoke the ole Jipster's favorite words... "no charge."

@jipster DT and TR seem to be further down the road (see what I did there?) in their merger and all of the tires I've recently looked up are priced identically at both storefronts.

I really like my Vredestein Hitrac tires. Great blend of comfort, control, and longevity (70k miles). Excellent traction in all elements... good in snow. I've had them for a little over 20k miles.

Don't know if the same tires bought from DT and TR have different "born on dates", or are taken from the same warehouse. But, when I called TR to order the tires and asked, they said the manufacturerd date on the tires I was ordering would be 5 months young. Not great, but reasonable.
