    Yes and no. The most egregious problems on the mild hybrid with the 6 have been worked out but the plug-in version with the 4-cylinder is still having lots of problems with the batteries. Then you have the still-jerky transmission at low speeds and noisy bakes and front suspension, along with an inscrutable infotainment system and driver aids that are very intrusive. It is surprisingly tight inside for such a large vehicle too. A lease is the only way to go if you must have one. There are better choices out there though as Mazda really dropped the ball on this one. They are now blaming a year+ of development being lost due to COVID as to why it was released in such half-baked form.

    I think this may be the first year in a long time I haven’t bought a car/truck. Although I do plan on visiting the leasing boards before the year is out.

    I agree. They missed the mark on design/engineering, and on value. They need a new VTEC that produces 10-15% more power, and then they have to deliver on value too.

    Speaking of rattles, my bosses recent model Chevy Traverse sizeable SUV has a nasty front dash cowl rattle by the windshield. Possible it was a windshield replacement that caused or exacerbated it.

    I assume from the AMG moniker that this is a high performance vehicle. Do you ever worry about buying such cars considering the previous owner may have raced or abused it?

    My German 2L with about 355 HP and 365 lb/ft tuned has nearly 75K miles and has been fine. Keeping it under 375 HP per 4 cylinders seems to be the trick.

    For those who want the tea on the BlueOval SK debacle, check out JonF1's comments in this Reddit thread. I think he was fired in March. He's a bit heavy handed on using predictive text and swipe to type, so it's a little hard to read, but still understandable, and I believe him. The comment about corporate not providing information and drawings to the field engineers is wild. What were they paying them to do, stand around and guess how to configure (or break) all the components they were shipping in?

    Tentatively, they plan to build grid storage batteries there, but IMO, that place will be gutted and turned into a data center sooner than we might think.

    That dude has a point. When you only have one car and depend on it constant downtime is a killer. I assume it was in the co text of issues requiring extended dealer visits?

    This whole thing is a nightmare. My husband sold his ‘21 Mercedes and 07 Hummer and bought his 2023 Rubicon 4xe in 2024. I loved it so I sold my 2015 Range Rover and my Jeep Liberty I bought new in 2002. Now we about have a heart attack, when driving not knowing if or when it will burst into flames.

    Yep; I can remember more than a few times needing to dig out on of my old rigs from their snowy slumbers to step in for our "only car" being MIA. It is a choice. And, for us at that time, it was the right one!

    Yes, this is over simplification. I found that a similar service at the Audi dealer is about twice as what I pay at the VW dealer. Both have similar EA888 engines, same oil filter, different oil specs, and other shared parts. I would be interested what Porsche would charge for similar services on the EA888 engine as well. 50% more?

    According to this new video from CNBC, Lucid has lost $7 billion in the last few years. It looks like sales in 2025 will be around 20,000 vehicles. But their factory in Arizona theoretically now has the capacity to build 90k a year. Lucid might introduce an under $60k midsize EV SUV by late 2026 or so.

    My sister and BIL took their first road trip in the i5 today. Drove from their house NE of San Diego to a hotel on the beach of our hometown (about 60 miles NW of LA), a total distance of about 185 miles.

    Car was 100% charged when they left, showing 305 miles of range. When they arrived, it had 38% charge remaining.

    They got 1000 free charging hours from BMW with the lease, so they've identified an Electrify America charging station not far from the hotel. They figure an hour to get recharged, then another straight shot home.

    Yes, refilling a gas tank would take 5-10 minutes, but the charging station is at an outdoor mall, so they can wander and shop while they wait.

    I believe you said you’re from Oxnard CA.

    When I was a working stiff we dealt with a company in Oxnard (late 80s) and when I went there, many times, I always stayed at a place on the beach too. It was the Embassy Suites. And IIRC the place was also known as the Mandalay Beach Resort Hotel. Very nice place. Even took Mrs. j there once while I was on a business trip there for a week. She really liked that place too.
