Yeah the old fluid in the lines should be replaced but drove one accord for 200K and 17 years and only had to replace one disc brake caliper-don't know if it was fluid related or not. Yep it would be best to suck it out but the world won't end if you don't. Same with ATF-best to take it all out by disconnecting the line to the ATF cooler and carefully with a helper run it out while adding fresh.
But we don't live in a perfect world and my way is goood enuf for me.
I am getting a weird brushing feel and sound which appears to be coming from front after it has been parked for awhile and droven. Has anyone experienced this for 03 Accord ?
After I back out the car in the morning and then straighten out going forward I can hear and feel some vibration. This also occurs after parked for an extended time.
It’s very similar to what user Krillin described in the message #3460. Krillin, if you are reading this message will you please post if you are still experiencing this or got it fixed. Thanks,
i have accord96.4dr...last july02.i bought a set of tire michelin..after 2months...the rear tire driver side blowup...so its still under warranty and they change it...last week i went to balance it..and they find out the same position that the tire was on tire separation..and that tire was brand new too...so they change it. did anybody know what cause this..?
I'm still experiencing it. I haven't confirmed that it is the ABS test that people have suggested, but it seems logical. I'll bring it up next time I bring my car in for service and keep everyone posted. Let me know if you find anything...
I'll bet it's surface rust on the rotors. After the car sits overnight a layer of rust will form on the rotors. Stopping the car a couple of times removes it.
There is a lot of handwork [still] in the manufacture of radial tires. The result of trying to marry so many disparate materials together means that even the best manufacturers will occasionally produce a bad tire. Michelin is no exception, though their quality control is better than average. It happens...
I just recently replaced the windshield on my Corrola and about a month later I severly scratched it with a scraper. The windshield repair/replacement place was extremely helpful and they will "buff out" the scratches. It's not their fault for the scratches and therefore anything they do is just good customer service. Also, the "Buffing" is very labor intensive. A 1 foot by 1 foot area will take them 1 hour to do. Another thing is that the deeper the scratches the deeper they will have to "buff" and the more the viewing will be warped.
I have a 1996 Honda Accord. Since a week, the red LED adjucent to the dashboard display light controller is always ON. I checked with the manual, but no mention about this LED. Is it the SRS problem indicator? Any body, having any idea about my problem, please inform me.
The scratches aren't too deep. They look more like scuff-marks on a hardwood floor than actual scratches, except that they won't come out with wiper fluid (or spit and anger for that matter). I was hoping that, since they aren't that deep, they'd come out with a heavy-duty glass polishing agent, if I can find one.
Just checking to see if anyone is having the same experience as me. My 2002 Accord V6 starts as if its going to explode, but only the first start after being parked overnight. Does anyone know what that might be?
If the ambient temperature is low, it is normal for the revs to shoot up (I wouldn't describe it as exploding) when you crank the engine after parking overnight. It should quickly settle down to a normal level though.
Would you also NOT need to remove the oil pan if you replace either of the other 2 belts? I think one runs the power steering, and the other the AC (?).
I used to use Bon Ami to get minors scratches out of my windshield it worked very well. Have not used the product for 3 or 4 years so I would check with the manufacturur to make sure they did not change ingredients. Rub lightly with a flannal cloth slightly damp so it will stick.
the '03 Accord has a Red LED that flashes just under the fuel gauge for the "security system" It has no other use other than that. I think someone nailed it on the head.. probably some aftermarket alarm system thats currently in valet mode.. most will flash slowly when the car is off, the on solid when the car is on... something like that... been out of the industry a while... =oP

Saw a couple of guys using an electric auto paint polisher equipped with what looked like a lambs wool head and using it to remove scratches from a step van windshield. They were using a creamy white liquid that was a polish of some sort. They said it worked very well-kinda messy-do it outside. Think 3M makes a very fine polish that should work. Ask a glass shop - maybe they can point u in the right direction.
Some states check windshields for sand blast problems and can issue citations-OR/WA I believe does this.
some good advice coming in. I'll definitely check out Bon Ami. I've done some searching on the web, and apparently the BMW guys swear by it! I'm also wondering if just old-fashioned toothpaste would do the trick (also a mild abrasive). I'll ask around about polishing/buffing the windshield as well. Though, the prospect of potentially warping my vision gives makes me a little nervious.
I've tried Bon Ami, various tooth pastes, and even Zaino Glass Polish. Mixed results. There are all sorts of "scratches". The above solutions all seemed to work on those VERY tiny mini-scratches. Those are the ones that ONLY show up when driving directly into the sun. You can't even see them when looking directly at them. Again, those scratches can be removed with a very mild abrasive (ie: tooth paste, etc.)
Then we have the "real" scratches which are commonly caused by small rocks and assorted flying junk common on our roads. You can see them if you look for them. Everyone gets them. Even Toyota drivers. No luck with the above solutions. Once the car glass (our windshields are plastic / glass composits) has been scratched to a certain deapth, its almost impossible to rub them out. If anyone has a real solution to this class of scratches, I'd like to hear about it.
When I first got my 2k accord there was a scratch on the front passenger window. I asked the service dept. if anything could be done to remove it. I absolutely stressed that if nothing could be done to just leave it alone. I could live with it rather than taking a chance with a total window replacement. Well... their "glass man" made an attempt to buff it out and had it causing so much distortion when looking thru that area, that the service people already had a new window ordered before I even got there to see how bad it was(really was bad). I just wish their "glass man" hadn't overestimated his skills and just left it alone. Oh, and they also said they wouldn't be using him again for any future work. I don't know how true that was. I guess my point is find somebody that has the ability to recognize what can and can't be done. Hard to do, I know. But asking for and checking references might be a good way. I don't know how bad your scratch is, but replacing a windshield without it being absolutely necessary would bother me.
Are you referring to an initial thump upon start up? If so, I have the same problem. "Ghomaz" provided insight on this back at the end of October. There are TSB's out on this problem for the V6's. The NHTSA site refers to this problem around the 2/02 time frame. "Ghomaz" indicated this is caused by insufficient manifold vacuum at startup. I have my car scheduled ('02 EX V6) for a few things in a couple of weeks and intend on having them address this TSB and fix the thump.
If it's something different, describe the issue further.
Picked up my car (corolla) from the Windshield replacement store and they managed to remove (buff out)at least 90% of the scratches from the drivers side. They didn't do the passenger side (wasn't as bad on that side). What a difference it made. Couldn't see any distortions. They told me that normally it would have cost me $60 CAN. They did it cause I had 3 Windshields replaced by them and just 2 months ago.
I have an '02 Accord LX. After it rains and there is water on the trunk, when I open the trunk, some of the water drips down from the back end of the trunk lid down into the back right side of my trunk. Is this normal or is there some kind of defect with my car? Should I take my Accord to the dealer to have this fixed?
I got my letter today from Honda extending the tranny warranty. Kind of gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling. They REALLY do care. Now, if they would just reimburse me a portion of the cost of the Honda Care extended warranty, I'd be tickled pink.
I have 2002 Accord LX for 3 months. I found the fan for the air condition make noise, also the rear of car make vibration noise from spring when I go through the ramp and if there is a gap on the road. Is any one has this problem on 2002 accord? Any comments are appreciate.
I finally after 16 days got my car out of the shop they replaced my back seat & carpet. They said that inside the doors is a plastic lining(they called it insulation) and they said that the door was not completely sealed off. Therefore letting in rain water. Thanks for everyone's reply ya'll were helpful.
It would be interesting to see if it really fixes the problem. Sometimes they grab for straws when they're not completely sure. Let us know after a couple of good storms if it does work. There's drain holes in the bottom of the door to let water out and there's a gasket around the windows to keep water out, so they're explanations sounds suspect to me. But we'll see.
I was reading post 3249 about the constant wondering down the road with constant steering corrections. My 2001 ex 4 has done this since day one, the dealer could find no cause but, acknowledges the problem. I've been checking this site from time to time checking for similar problems. post 3249 nails it but have seen no solutions.
I assume you have already done a 4-wheel alignment, wheel balancing, etc.? Have you tried reducing tire pressure by a pound or 2? I find (with my CL) just lowering tire pressure by less than 2 pounds reduces steering jitters/dartiness.
Hello, have a 97 accord LX manual, when going uphill in 2nd or 3rd gear, I hear a small rumbling from the muffler/tail area, then it subsides after I upshift with enough RPM's...is this normal?
If this is the original exhaust system-I would guess you have a hole or holes in the system some place. Watch out for the franchised muffler places-If u plan on keeping the car for a while-consider using Honda parts-they have a lifetime guarantee for the parts-not labor. Just replaced the exhaust system from the cat back on my 97 accord.
Had mine done at the Honda dealer and the service writer disagrees with you...lifetime on muffler only, but I have nothing in writing either way. Do you? I would love to have the ammunition to go back and have a little "discussion."
Leonardmp...Yep, it's time for the exhaust. Mine went at 44,000 miles, muffler and the pipe in front of it. Call around to all the dealers in your area, you may be surprised at the price difference.
This is in response to leonardmp regarding muffler noise. The 6th generation Accords all have the noise you're referring to. It occurs precisely at 1800 RPM's. There is a service bulletin at Honda to correct this, and it costs somewhere around $150 to fix it. I didn't, I decided I could live with it. If your noise occurs at a level other than 1800 RPM, then your noise is not pertaining to this bulletin.
In the owners manual there is a statement about their warranty for exhaust systems-but that could have been muffler-will check it out next time am in vehicle.
The muffler is welded part and parcel to the exhaust pipe. They be the same critter. What might not be covered is the pipes before and after the cat.
I have bought Honda Accord EX V6 2003, color Graphite Pearl, three weeks ago. Now the hood of my car have a light spot. If you look from left angle, you will see clearly. I took my car to dealer, and they told me that the hood needs to repaint because Graphite Pearl color loosing Carbon. My friend who bought Honda V6, Graphite Pearl color have same prolem. Does anyone have same problem with us ?
It happened three times -- I couldn't get out of my 2003 Honda Accord LX because the door locks automatically after I press the unlock button. I realized this weird behavior happened because I made the "mistake?" of trying to open the door a little too fast after pressing the unlock button (--but isn't this a natural reaction when one is in a hurry?). The "problem" does not occur if I wait at least a couple of seconds before pulling the door latch to open the door (after I hear the clicking sound of the power lock mechanism, as it unlocks).
Thank you all for the info. This "rumbling" only occurs every once in a while, not a big problem, is it something I need to fix right away and/or will it degrade the performance/lifetime of my vehicle?
actually it could improve power/mileage. Used to have an old chevy 3/4 ton truck-discovered it was great fun to turn off the ignition in third gear while going down hill and then turn it back on again with a big backfire-well kept it off too long and with a mighty booooom-the muffler was wrapped around the frame. Never used to be able to make it up this one grade in second till the muffler was split.
Be aware also some states have pollution control checks and they look for any holes in the exhaust system even past the cat and they will fail you for that. Costs $5 to get retested in WI.
Also if u have a dealer replace your exhaust pipes that connect to the cat-the studs on the cat are usually rusted solid and have to be ground off-well it is supposedly against the law for anyone to alter part of the pollution control system so the dealer has got to put a new cat on-those puppies cost a couple of hundred bucks from the dealer. Had to drill out the studs on mine and put in new bolts-works fine.
You answered this problem before. But I cannot find your original message.
Anyways. On a 87 Honda Accord (carburetted). I have excessive blue smoke when the engine is started and its cold. I am 99% sure this is due to the carb. Perhaps something is wrong with the choke? I have had problems with this carb before. Can you please give me some specifics on this problem?
This never happens in the summer (when its warm). Only in winter.
I can see the V6 pulling towards the right but primarily during braking. Mainly because of the extra weight of the V6 vs I4 on the passenger side. Shouldn't be that big of a difference, though. Test drove both, and did not find any discernable differences between the I4 vs V6. The coupe does handle a little stiffer than the sedan, though. Probably due to the larger anti sway bar on the rear of the coupe vs the sedan.
mack20 (your post #3644), I don't think I have touched the carburetor subject before because I have fuel inj. Perhaps there are some other folks with more expertise in this...
I have a Nissan Maxima 97, it did the same thing, pulled towards one side, wheel/tire bal & alignment was good, then I researched more & there are some service bulletins by Nissan to correct the problem, this probably is the same kind of problem if air press & other stuff is good. But one thing ....is that Honda would not allow their service bulletins to be viewed online by anyone, they hide them....

I agree the muffler also has a big hunk of pipe as part of it. When my exhaust went, I needed a cat back replacement. So that's the "B" pipe and the muffler. My dealer had no qualms about doing the work and made no mention that the cat might need to be changed. It simply wasn't an issue.
It might not be a worry. Or your dealer sensed an opportunity to "upsell" you a new convertor.
was what I had to do also-actually my dealer told me if they did it they may have to replace the cat-that is why I did it myself-have all the tools and a comfy garage so why not.

Also is it a general problem for the EX v6 to pull to the right or left. Is this something that I should be concerned about.
I test drove the EX v6 a couple of months ago and I noticed it pulling and have read a few posts on here about it.
Any replies would be appreciated.
Thanks

It was a ford festiva, a piece of junk.
Other cheap cars that I tried had vibrating steering wheels.
I don't want to buy another car with a steering wheel that vibrates.
The problem is, the v6 ex's are scarce where I live and I can't get to try one.
Maybe I will buy a mercedes instead.
To make matters worse, my sister lent me her Lexus SC430 yesterday when i was test driving some cars and it made selecting one much more frustrating.
