After 2,500 dealer cash, Is $20,950 + tax + tags a good offer?

I am now back to thinking of leasing a new Passat rather than buying, considering how they have depreciated lately. I imagine the older B5 models will take an even bigger hit when the new B6 design rolls out.
I considered leasing one as well, they have the $289/36 month $2400 down for an '05, but considering the price breaks their giving right now, it makes more sense to buy it and just sell it in 3 yrs...the new design will hurt the value a little, but VW's will still sell...
VW dealers are hurting for sales right now. Negotiations should be simple. Subtract all the incentives from the Edmunds invoice, and add $100 for dealer profit. Don't go any higher than $400 over invoice, less incentives. In other words, if Edmunds says the invoice is $20,000, and there are $2,000 in incentives, offer $18,100.
If you're lousy at negotiating in person, do it all over the phone or email. Just make it clear you're ready to buy today so they don't think you're wasting their time.
You might consider the 4Motion GLS if the dealer has any left, the dealer cash is $3500 so it pretty close in price the standard GLS. I paid $21500, (ESP + ColdW) but did not get the $1000 owner cash, which would have dropped the price to $20500.
She only nets 2000 month and has a credit score of 650. With those numbers, the dealer floated her financing at 72 months with a 6.5% rate.
Those are the terms of the deal. But....
When she went to pick the car up, we noticed the fender had a small dent and scratch. Obviously the dealer will fix the repair, but at this point she is not sure what to do. What do you think? Thankd for the input.

I've read what everyone says about paying $100 over invoice etc. but is all the haggling really worth it if I'm just getting a lease!?
i've got a lease offer based on total price $25,750. i think that's about $700 over the invoice price, but what does that $700 really translate into in my 48 month lease in the end?
I find the whole experience highly stressful, so if it just comes down to saving $5 a month, I'd like to spare myself the ulcer!

Anyway, if you're happy with the deal being proposed, don't worry about the prices other people paid. I think some of the people saying "I just bought a BMW M3 for $300 below invoice, and the dealer gave me Kelly Blue Book on the trade" are blowing smoke up you know where...

Still, that number seems kind of high to me given what they're going for new. Ignore the sticker price - Passats are selling much closer to invoice, and that doesn't even take into account the thousands in incentives on the '04 models.
Always work from the back forward when dealing with used car prices; check the KBB and Edmunds and other websites for the WHOLESALE, TRADEIN value of the car in question - and then remember the dealer probably paid even less. Add a reasonable profit [no more than 10%, less for many makes], and maybe $500 for the warranty, and you've got a reasonable basis for a counteroffer.
Example: for my zip code, Kelley lists the tradein value of that car at less than $12k [$11.7 to be precise]. My offer would be in the range of $14-14.5k, they would counter, and I might buy it at $14700 or so, depending on market and competition.
Keep in mind that the "guides" like Kelley allow the dealer 30-35% markups on used cars - so when they talk about "retail value", the trick is to try not to roll on the ground laughing. If you do the math on the original $17k asking price, you arrive at their cost of....voila...$11,900 - right on at wholesale book. Sure, they'd like to think they can make that kind of money on a used car, but it simply isn't in the cards in today's retail market. Caveat emptor.

The dealer initially claimed that my newpaper ad was a misprint. It was a bitter cold day and it took him forever to bring out the car. I thought he was playing games and left the dealership after sitting around for an hour not even seeing the car. Well, he calls me on my cell phone explaining that he was cleaning the vehicle and that if I were to return to the dealership he would sell me the car at the advertised price (he initially insisted on $19,995 which was still a good price). I went back, drove the car and loved it.
I guess I got lucky partly because VW is redesigning the 2006 Passat and the weather conditions forced most people to stay at home. oh, the post also helped out. The car had only 85 miles on it!!!!
