jblash, thanks for your experience. A few questions:
Did they include CPO status or an extended warranty? For what price? Did they offer you a good finance rate? How much mileage did you have at lease end? Are you happy with your purchase and has the car held up? How much have you spent to maintain and repair your VW after lease purchase? What kind of climate do you live in (I am in the hot/arid climate, car has held up well for 2.75 years +/-, with partial garaging.)
In my case, I have a 2003 GLS Tip/Leather that will have about 28,000 miles at lease end that has not given me any problems. I like the car, and have run the numbers, and it may save me between $2,500 and $5,000 to purchase and use for another 3 years assuming I will spend about $1,500 in maintenance (tires, oil, allowance for two major services) and assuming $1,500 in repairs, depeding on the final purchase price, financing available, and ability to get CPO.
If VW does not offer CPO status for about $1k or less, deal become shakier.
Right now, I have not seen any car out there that is compelling enough that it is a must buy/lease over my Passat (looked at the TL, G35, Legacy GT, decided not to look European again.) although these were all nice cars.
Final decision will be based on what market has to offer in Nov/Dec 2005, but figure I will call VW shortly (before CPO 2.9% financing expires) to discuss options and negotiate, if possible.
When I had a SAAB as my last lease through Chase, they were desperate to get rid of it (very poor resale on these). They dropped the residual almost $4k with little discussion.
Yesterday, I purchased a 2006 Passat 2.0T with Package #1 w/XM Satellite Radio, 6 speed Triptronic, and cold weather package. Got a sweet deal!! 25,000 before taxes and fees. Sticker price was 27,440. So far, I love the car and have no complaints other than the manual is pretty thick!!
I have looked in all dealers by where I live and I have yet to see one with manual transmission. I am sure they will be arriving in the next few weeks if not months. Email Volkswagen directly and they will give you a response.
Hi folks. Great group! Have some lease quotes that I'd like to run by you. I put quite a few miles on cars, so I was intrigued by these phone quotes from my local dealer in Central NJ: 2006 Passat 2.0T Auto Package 2
All quotes would have 1st month's payment, lease inception, tags, title etc. (totals about $1000) up front. No Cap cost. Monthly sales tax included. 12K - $350 15K - ~$370 18K - ~$385
Sales guy said VW is pretty motivated to get these rolling out the door. Seems pretty aggressive. Am I missing something or should I pounce on this??
I am also looking into a similar deal. What is included in the up front amount besides 1st month's payment, tags, title? Acquisition fee or dealer fee? Are these payments for 36 or 48 months?
It was a 36 month quote And, while I haven't hammered out details yet (just ballparking right now), I'm assuming it includes: 1st month payment Lease Deposit (not sure if refundable, but usually is) Tags/title etc. It does NOT include any Capital Cost reduction for the lease
I am almost certain that you could get one of these new Passat's for less than MSRP and closer to invoice. The lease deal VW has now is $289.00 with $2500 down. Even if you didn't want to put 2500 down you could still get a lower payment. The basic rule is every $1,000 you put down it lowers your payment $20....so....if you wanted $2,000 rolled into your payment it would come out to be $330.00+/-. Not sure what equipment difference there is, but the MSRP on your car and the lease deal car is not too substantial.....good luck.
I looking at a package #2 out the door price paid. Also a lease price, cap, down payment for a package #2. Any help is welcome. I am very close. Don't know if I can wait for the V6's.
I got 2 close-in-price quotes this afternoon from Central NJ: 2006 Passat 2.0T Tip w/ Package 2 (MSRP of $28,415) for $26,651. The best quote came on the first phone call, so there may be slightly more wiggle room.
We've been looking for '05 Passat's and they've been pretty hard to come by in the local area. I found the VW dealer nearest me has a few brand new '04's remaining. I know the '05's have $2000 in dealer $, but I'm having a tough time trying to figure a target price for the '04. The one we are interested in is a GLS with leather, auto and alloy wheels. I believe the sticker is $27,305 or so. I can't find invoice info on Edmunds for the '04 anymore, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
The $20/month for every $1000 borrowed is a good rule of thumb on 60 month financing. But not a short term 24 or 36 month lease. You have a lot less time to pay the money back, and it increases to $30-40 month extra.
This is the deal I'm looking for! I just started looking last week and was hoping I could get them to go below invoice...I hadn't heard of anyone's deals except leases so far. Thanks for sharing.
Just finished the paperwork on a new 2.0T under the structure of their aggressive lease promotion (good until 9/6... and its a darn good deal by itself, but even better with a little negotiation).
2006 Passat 2.0T, Black on Black, Tiptronic, Package #1 with Sirius, cold weather package, and the super-secret multi-function steering wheel "free production error" (thank you forum! )
MSRP $27,440. Invoice is $25,357. Add $280 in dealer ad & prep fees and I gave them $363 over invoice for arranging exactly what I wanted so the "Off the lot" selling price was an even $26,000 (I like this dealership and didn't fight too hard (other than being well informed), so I think readers could get $25,500 or better if you want to fight/shop for it or are flexible - which I wasn't on either count.)
Lease is 36 mos, 36,000 miles. Only first payment and title/license fees at inception - $454. No Down Payment / Cap Cost reduction. Security deposit of $300 was waived (have 2 leases with VW Credit) Acq fee of $595 was rolled into the lease. $334.33 total monthly payment (incl 5.1% tax)
I'll miss my 2002 Passat 1.8T GLS, especially with the manual transmission, when that lease ends next week.. but I'm looking forward to this new 2006. Hope this info helps other shoppers. Good luck!

PS- ASK FOR them to find one with that multifunction steering wheel with the early production Package #1s!!! Its free and if they are like mine, the VW guys never heard of it. :shades:
- 2002 1.8T Passat GLS (retiring 9/6/05) 2004 1.8T Passat Wagon GLS and now a new 2006 2.0T Passat
I mentioned this to the salesman at the local dealer here in South Charlotte and he said there is no way any dealer is doing that, they're selling like hot cakes. I don't believe him, so I would love to tell him exactly where they are giving these deals. Can you tell me what dealership you have heard of that is doing this? Would love to be able to use this as leverage, but without specifics the guy isn't buying it...
Steve, which dealership in Central NJ gave you that quote? Did they have a lot of stock? Could you share some of the other quotes and dealer names you received in NJ. Thanks.
I dealt primarily with David Michael VW in Freehold. The lowest I got with them was pretty aggressive. Package 2 (MSRP $28,415) 36 month lease 18K miles/year $380/month (that includes tax) $500 down
The other dealer was World VW in Neptune Only got a phone quote and right off the bat, they would sell that same car (package 2, MSRP of $28,415) at $26,651. 36 month, 18k lease was $380/mo (includes tax) w/ $876 down.
While I didn't complete the deal at either place (still on the fence) David Michael had some appreciable inventory. I didn't get the impression World had a ton of cars sitting on the lot. Hope this helps!
Just picked up my 06 Package #2 with Dynaudio for $26,885 . They seemed not to be too bothered by it and think that is the best price I could have gotten it for. Now I just got to wait for the VW A:D $1000 rebate form...
Thanks to info received from this board, I went in to look and ended up leasing a 2006 passat with package 2. I currently have a 2003 Passat V6 with all the bells and whistles. I was a little disappointed that there is no climate control, home link or 8 way adjustable seats.I was told this will all be available in the V6 model in Nov. Ironically they offer those options with the 2.0T Jetta. They must be trying hard to move the 2.0T passat as the numbers were actually lower for the Passat then they were for the 20T Jetta.I wont be picking up the car until tuesday Sept 6, so I can only give you the numbers that I can recall:
2006 Passat package 2 .No cap cost reduction, acquisition fee rolled into lease. $484 down. Monthly payment $321 tax included.
The dealer is Gunther Volkswagen in Coconut Creek Florida (Broward County) They had about 15-20 Passats. Of course nobody can say if this deal will be extended past Sept. 6. After I pick up the car I will post all the exact numbers
Sounds like a great deal. I was willing to put down a couple k to get out of my current 03 Passat lease for the 06 w/ Pkg 2. They would not bring the sticker down past 29k. I'm waiting a little bit longer, maybe 6 months for my lease to dwindle down ( I have 11 months left on a 4 year lease).
Way to go, I'll have to settle for the $750 A:D.
Btw, have you received your form yet? Definitely something to ask on Wednesday's live feed.
That's an excellent deal and a deal I will like to get. In DFW, the best number I got is $328/month for 2.0T auto with no option, 12 K miles for 4 years and I paid the t,t&l. Your deal is cheaper, tax included and with package 2 ($2500 value). Please tell me more about your lease.
Picked up the car today. Arctic blue silver with classic gray interior. Package #2
$488.49 down included first mo. payment, license fee and Florida fees and taxes. Cap. cost was--- $26922.22 Residual value-- $ !7049.00 Base monthly payment--$302.83 Monthly sales tax --$18.17 Total mo. payment---$321.00
So this question has been posted, but not since ~May, so I thought I'd ask for an update.
Am looking at a 2005 1.8T Automatic Passat Front wheel drive with leatherette+cold weather package (no wood trim). Two dealers each had posted $27-28,000. I told them I was just looking, but would be interested if they could come around $20-22,000. Both seemed inclined to do so ("I don't think I can do 20, but maby $22-23" & "$22 isn't impossible"), though I didn't talk further details.
Would I be reasonable to asking for $20,000? Or even less? I would probably finance the car myself.
Also, they each claimed these were there last 2 2005's. Is that believable? Will they vanish in a month?
Yeah i probably could, but unfortunately i just didn't like the interior as much. Wasn't as open feeling and i'm not into the whole modern-retro thing.
The engine rocked though (i drove the base model) and the body is much sportier.
I don't know 100%, but I would guess no. I recently took out a loan through Chrysler for my wife's 2005 Minivan and paid it off immediately with no early payoff fee. Call VW Credit and they can tell you...
Hi, gadom. This seems a pretty good deal. I am in the market for a lease, too. Could you share more details about your lease? Like purchase price, residual value, and money factor? Thank you.
I don't know if this helps, but I bought a 2.0T with pkg #1 and winter pkg. (heated seats) for $25,000 + tax, lic.and doc. in IL...to give you an idea.
I haven't begun negotiating but have a dealer in Virginia willing to do the following on a 2006 2.0T with automatic transmission and Package 2:
Price: $26,621 With taxes, title, fees, etc.: $28,423 36 months 15K/year MF: .0008 Residual (57%) seems low $393/month with only first payment due at signing

You can't even get xenons on the 2.0T, apparently. You have to move up to the 3.6.
Now if 3.6 delivers 22/30 MPG, which is what the 2.0T is rated at...
And... as you say... just a general rule of thumb...
On a longer lease, it might be close to $20/month..

Anyone care to share actual prices paid for 2.0T with pkg #1 or #2 in the MA area?
Just an FYI for all those looking for a Passat. Have the following offer on the table in NJ. 2006 2.0T with AT and package 2. MSRP is $28,415.00.
Lease Terms
30 months
37,500 miles (15K per year)
MF 0.0008 (1.92%)
Residual 61%
$360/month 1194 OOP
I was looking at the A4 and decided to test drive the new Passat. I actually like the ride and general feel of the Passat more.
Hope this helps.

Price: $26,621
With taxes, title, fees, etc.: $28,423
36 months
15K/year
MF: .0008
Residual (57%) seems low
$393/month with only first payment due at signing
I have the exact same lease offered to me with payment of $357
The only difference is $800 down up front
36 month x 15000/year
msrp is $28,415
Sale is $26,600
Residual is also 57%
I don't know why you have higher payments?
Check the numbers again and make sure they didn't include something you don't know of.
Good luck
