It will all depend on what condition it's in - average.? I need a REAL description ..
Average means a whole lotta different stuff to a whole lotta different people ..
$1,200/$2,000 ...?
Terry.
Trade side, be looking for the ultra high $18's low $19's .. driven down Retail Rd., get the dents removed and maybe fix the kiss, then nice big ad for $23,900, and $22/$23 should make it go away. ..
Terry.
Mazda B4000 LE, supercab, 4x4, alloys, new Wranglers, and pretty much all the normal comforts (AC, keyless PDL, etc). Biggest drawback is the color: teal. Xlnt shape overall. Live in Seattle.
Thanks! (in advance)
Miles ......
Miles .........?
The biggest drawback is, I don't have the MILES..........!
OFF with your head, then off too your room.
Terry.
Right now, there worth about $9,5 on a trade with a MP3 .. so, whats the actual piece worth at the store ..?
Terry.
If it's a nice one, they probably have 8ish in it .. they miles aren't bad for the year and it's a AWD, I guessing they have it up for sale for $10,900 ~~ I bet $9,5 or so will cut it from the herd ...
Let me know ....
Terry.
Is that American money ..?
It's a handshaker, it's "come too Jesus blue" and it's missing the tunes ..
Wow, that dude should have cut that puppy from the herd a loooong time ago - especially since you can buy the 02 auto and loaded up P5's with 5/7k for the $12's ..
$15,9 huh, thank goodness he doesn't work for me, that pup would be on payroll deduction for a long time. l.o.l..
Terry.
Miles were right and the car looked great.
Bids were 2-2500 below book form wholesalers and Dodge deales who really didn't want it for any price.
Reason...they simply don't sell for a couple of reasons.
The customer was very unhappy. Left clutching his internet printouts.
Shopped the deal EVERYWHERE, came to grips with reality and returned and did the deal.
Since we were in the Intrepid right, we decided to try to retail it.
Two months later, it went to the auction.
We only lost something like 1500.00.
Hope all of you have a great Christmas!
A local dealer has advertised on the internet the following 2002 Outback Wagons
1) 9,923 miles, Red, and with Power Windows , Passenger Air Bag , Child Safety Locks , Rear Defrost , 4-Wheel Disc Brakes , Cruise Control , Power Steering , Daytime Running Lights , Driver Air Bag , Cassette , Power Locks , Am/Fm Stereo , All Wheel Drive , A/C , Intermittent Wipers , Power Mirrors , 4-Wheel Abs , Tilt Steering , Bucket Seats which sounds like all the standard equipment. They don't say Stick or Auto.
2) 8,110 miles, light (seamist) Green, and with A/C , Rear Defrost , Bucket Seats , 4-Wheel Disc Brakes , Am/Fm Stereo , Cruise Control , Power Windows , All Wheel Drive , 4-Wheel Abs , Intermittent Wipers , Tilt Steering , Passenger Air Bag , Child Safety Locks , Power Locks , Power Steering , Daytime Running Lights , Cassette , Driver Air Bag , Power Mirrors. Again, they don't say stick or auto.
A new Outback Wagon with all weather package (heated seats, wiper de-icer, heated outside mirrors) should be going for about 21.2K for a stick and 22K for an auto. What do you think it would take to liberate either of those from the herd and give them a happy home on the range?
Lou, wishing all a Joyeux Noel, a Frohliche Weinachten, a Feliz Navidad, and a Merry Christmas!
54K miles
First of all, Froehliche Weihnachten to you, too!
2ndly, I'm only a civilian, but I bet you either one of those two wagons will be between $19 and $20, AFTER negotiation. Quite a few of those 1-year-old 10k miles ones available; don't know where they come from. Local dealer has 'em, too, and always automatics
These things are strong, more's the pity. Get yourself a new one and pick the color. 5,000 articles detailing how "the smart thing to do is buy a nearly new used car" have done their evil work.
Terry will surely be along shortly to straighten me out.
Opiniated, I remain,
Mathias

Be safe and happy for 2003!
The Sandman :-)
Thanks for what you do! Reading the posts here, your advice has proven pretty accurate and dependable.
What would you say are the real-world trade-in values for the following cars?
1) 1990 Acura Integra LS: Auto,AC, grey 4D sedan, 130K miles, clean title, Power everything, no major accident. Key sticks in ignition, otherwise relatively clean
2) 1995 Nissan Altima GXE: Auto,AC, dark blue 4D sedan, 90K miles, clean title
Both cars are located in Portland, OR if that helps.
Also, I'm looking to get a used 2002 Toyota Camry LE auto. What's a decent price from a dealer and a private party? The ones I've seen
in the paper ask for $15,500-$16000 from private
and $18K from dealers.
Sorry for the length of this message. All the best to you and your family!
AK
If you are looking new, check out Thomason.com. I did my '03 Accord EX 5MT for $600 over invoice. 20,5 out the door loaded. They do "no hassle" internet dealings and are pretty darn good at their prices. They are in gladstone, OR. try 18006412350. BTW, I traded my '02 Trailblazer in, and Terry was on the money on the market value.
Hope this helps you some...
2001 GXE Limited Edition 4dr sedan
33,100 mi.
2.4L 4-Cylinder EFI
Good/clean condition
Factory wood grain trim
Power windows
Power locks
Power drivers' seat
AM/FM stereo with CD
In-dash 6-disc CD Changer
A/C
Auto 4-Speed
Cruise Control
Keyless entry
Lighted entry
for now i have 4dr,auto,dark green,'02cav. with 10k miles that i would like to know a real world trade-in value, for when that time comes.
according to edmunds, kbb, nada and black book, the value is in the 8k to 8.3k range. punching in my exact car on autotrader most local dealers are asking in the neighborhood of 11.9k for my car with similar and more often than not more miles.
i know it won't be remotely close to retail, but i'm hoping that they don't go below the 8k range.
sorry for the long post, first timer. thanks in advance for any help and happy holidays.
Jack here, I just read that the Mazda6i will have a residual of $9650 after 24 mo., $8150 after 39 mo. and $7,400 after 48 mo. using the MSRP of $18,530. Is this a reliable standard for future value of a new vehicle never sold before?
Thanks....
Same for the CRV but not as bad.
Did OK on the Civic SI's though.
One last comment for Bottgers (at the risk of piling on...). You are concerned that all your cars end up with Negative Equity, but you won't consider an Oddessey because it doesn't have incentive money, like the MPV. If a manufacturer has to use incentive money to move a car when it is new, that's the first indication that the depreciation will be higher than average. Ask Terry what a 99 Oddessey EX is hitting at the block, vs. a 99 MPV or 99 Chrysler T&C. Just because a vehicle has a higher "up front" cost doesn't mean it's the one with the highest cost of ownership.
There, I've been holding that in for about 130 posts...
Feeling much better now.
Merry Chirstmas to Most (and Happy Holidays to everyone else).
We wish you all the Health and Joy on the most beautiful holiday of all ~ Christmas.!
Terry.
I was thinking of trading the Prelude on a 2003 Accord EX 4-cylinder sedan, as the insurance is rather high, it requires premium gas and it's impossible to carry anything more than two bags of groceries in the interior or trunk. I've just about got the need for a sporty car out of my system, so it may be time for a nice handling four-door sedan. I defintely don't want to go back to the Civic, which is what I traded for the Prelude.
So what is the most popular color for Accord sedans? I'm partial to the blue and the deep gray.

Besides, every time I've taken a Honda to a dealer of a different brand for a possible trade-in, the used-car person practically salivates over the prospect of a clean Honda trade. Which makes me think I should stick with Honda.
It has cloth seats, 3800 Series II V6, 4-speed automatic, dual zone manual A/C, AM/FM/CD with RDS, cruise, steering wheel mounted stereo controls, trip computer, overhead trip computer, automatic self dimming rear view mirror, OnStar, power windows, locks, mirrors and trunk release, remote keyless entry, factory alarm, 16" 5 star alloy wheels (stock), rear trunklid spoiler, fog lights, front bucket seats, power driver's seat, front and side airbags (Side airbag for driver only), center storage console, ABS and traction control.
Really, really nice car, never smoked in, no children, interior looks brand new.
Exterior color: Sandrift Metallic. Interior color: Neutral.
I am currently leaning towards a smaller/sportier European sports sedan or coupe and this is the main reason I want to sell it. The car still has 16 moths left in the 3 year/36K mile basic warranty. I have just about 5 payments left on it to fully satisfy the bank loan.
I live in South Florida. Any trade in info and private sale values from the pros in this topic are greatly appreciated.
drivinisfun - interior color is called neutral?? Boy those GM stylists won't take any risks will they!! LOL
The 'Neutral' interior is actually a Tan color.
It beats me...

Mazda credit caps the mileage on a lease to 25K per year....figure 15 cents per mile...money factor based on very good credit.
here are the rates and resids for the northeast
maz6i ... maz6s
39 mo...44% 46%
.00185 .00185
48 mo ... 40% 41%
.00201 .00219
24 months 52%... 54%
.00147 .00147
add 3 points to all residuals for 12K year.
I just used the MSRP and voila!
If you purchased a 2000 626 for $3,000 off MSRP which was easy to do in '00 for $14,995 today it would have a trade-in value 0f $7,500!
So what was an $18,000+ MSRP vehicle, to be purchased at a great price of $15,000 to lose 50% in less than 3 years IS DISGUSTING!
And if the Residuals above quoted by audia8q are real then this Mazda6 is off my shopping list.
Soooo, Terry if you're reading this...
Are these Residuals close to True Trade-in value?
Thanks, Jack
PS. - I love Christmas Day, went out for 2 hours and hit many lots looking at cars. No sales folks to slow me down....
Here's what I've got:
1995 Saturn SL1 automatic base model. (4 cyl., 1.9 liter engine) 153,000 miles. Dark Green. No options, standard am/fm radio, no aftermarket addons.
I can only describe the condition as "poor" - there's slight body damage, the cloth interior is trashed (kids) and then there's the aforementioned Serious Mechanical Issues. I don't know exactly what's wrong but from the racket it's making I'd suspect the timing chain, which would certainly cost more to fix than this car is worth. (It's also due for brakes.) My service records are spotty - OK, they're practically non-existent unless I turn it in at the local Saturn dealership, which is where it's been serviced.
That works, since I am looking to replace it with a new Saturn, probably a Vue.
As you can see, when I say I drive cars into the ground, I'm not kidding....this car has been a great basic mom-mobile but I need a new one. Can I realistically expect anything for it? I suspect any tradein allowance would be closer to charity than any real value - especially since I only buy a car once every seven years.
Mathias is pretty darn close on this one, if this is a regular, cloth with all the stuff, then they will do the $17's at the auctions, so on the retail side you are lookin' at the mid to high $19's++ for an asking retail .. (especially now with snow all over) -- now, if it's a VDC with all the stuff, they are doing the $22's with 4/6/8k, so on that "asking" retail side you are looking at the $25/$26 range ...
Hey while Honda and Toyota have been busy bragging on how great they are, Subaru has been quietly building Super AWD's and definatly getting the job done.!
Terry.
The GXE is heading towards the $2,5ish figure on trade .. as far as the 02 Camry's are doing, there is ton's of em' out there and they are doing the $14's, so figure $16,5ish is a fair asking price for those ..
I hope this helps ...
Terry.
Terry.
No LS or LS sport.? there is tons of Cav's out there, rentals, lease, big rebates on the new ones, etc, Sooo on a trade you are going to be around the low $7's.
sorry,
Terry :-(
Terry.
Terry.
There is so many variable's .. what's the right connection, the color, the options, the miles, the length of the lease, the competitation, - right now, the market seems to be in a "color" phase, but what will that bright yellow or sponge orange be worth in 3 yrs, especially after seeing it for the next 3 yrs, nobody can guess that one.
But what will the "6" do in 3 years .? Based on what the 626 is doing today, that's a tuff one .. right now, loaded up 02 LX's with all the stuff are doing the high $10's, low 11's. So I can't answer that one ..l.o.l..
Terry.
Good luck ...
Terry.
Terry.
I so much appreciate your expertise. Thanks!
