.... If it has no tilt wheel, then there is a $5,000 deduct ..l.o.l...

These a funny little dudes, if a dealer doesn't really know what he has (if it's a nice one) .. he will hit it at around the $1,0/$1,5 mark, and whine about the ultra high miles and how they are no longer being built - I think you might be headed for Retail Rd .. $3,900 in the paper and $2,9/$3,5 drop kicks it off your driveway ...

Well again, everyone is getting a new car and I'm stuck dropping you a post for some info, when do I get mine?

Our neighbor has a 2000 Navigator, 4wd, it's nice, it's really clean (inside and out) and we are thinking about buying it. It's got the chrome wheels, sunroof, heated leather seats, the BIG stereo, every option, it's silver with the grey int, 20k, he's asking $29,900. What do you feel would be a fair offer so we can remain friends, and buy his SUV?

Also are niece is looking to trade her 2000 VW bug GLS, 29k, bright yellow, auto, heated seats, cd, sunroof, wheels, she does a good job keeping it clean and nice, 1 small scratch by the gas door about the size of a quarter, other than that it looks new. The Acura dealer is thinking $8,500 what say you?

As always, we appreciate the help and hope your holidays have been super.

I know this is a little off topic, but it doesn't fit anywhere else and you were so helpful on a previous inquiry. I was wondering what I should offer a dealer to take a "new" 2001 Elantra GLS off his hands. Stick shift, red, with option package 2 (cruise and keyless remote) and floor mats and trunk liner. The sticker price is $13,500. Thanks for your help.

Your dealer still has an untitled 2001? I guess the sticks really aren't selling where you live.

TMV on a brand-new 2003, equipped as you describe, in 60657 (my zip) is $12643, so I'd probably start about $3k back of that, at least. Will this car have a full warranty?
  • cusafrcusafr Member Posts: 184
"so I'd probably start about $3k back of that, at least."

Well, that's a little high in my opinion. I would start at about $1.50 and go no more than $3.00. On second thought, I would not even start!

    Hi,
I'm buying a new car and wanted to find out
what I can expect for the trade-in on my
1993 Mazda MX6. It is the 2 door coupe.
It is in good running condition and
has 72,300 miles on it. The outside is average
with a little fading of the paint on the hood,
top and trunk. It has A/C, a spoiler and sunroof. NADA gives me a value of $3,000 while
Edmunds gives me a value of $2,500. Can you
    help me? Thanks so much!

My 98 Contour has 122,000 miles on it. I just spent around $1000.00 to fix different things to cause the check engine light to come on.
It only comes with abs, radio, antilock brakes, and a rear window defogger. I want a 2003 Monte Carlo. Now it is running smooth and I need the honest truth about how much I should expect for a trade-in vs. selling the car on my own. Any thoughts? Thank you very much for your assistance.

Does it ever make sense to buy-out a lease? Payoff on my '01 ES300 is a little over $23k. There's so little to do with money these days, I figure the interest on the lease (under 7%) is better than I can do with the money anywhere else.
The car: 11.5k miles, white (Pearl something), Lexus Value Pkg. (leather, moonroof, door opener, in dash changer, heated mirrors, memory seats), wood steering wheel, wheel locks, trunk mat, and upgraded all-season-tires. The car is "perfect" except.....one fender-bender. The front right fender and front bumper replaced. Very minor but "paint work" nevertheless.
I've had a truck-load of cars and have to admit we could drive this one for a while (it's never been in for anything but an oil change). Drive's like the day we bought it. Is it worth $23k?.....or should I hold my horses and pay the lease out?

...... Good morning, ya figure at $24,2 they will do the service, a little this a little that, a touch up here and a touch up there, then a detail, then pack .. Sooo, it will hit the table at about $25,0 and at that point, if they can't make at "least" $1,500 they will wave your friend off .. LC's are in demand.

I gotta figure at least $26,5 and more towards that $27 figure, but get your boy in there and see what happens ...

Good luck and let me know ..

These things have like nooo re-sale value, buy it new..? I don't think so .. a nice clean 6/11/15k 2001 GLS is doing like the $6's at the block, and I'm sure they can be found for around that $8ish figure on the street .. but, it's your dollar and it could make ya holler. .l.o.l.

What happens to cars like these? Would the dealer be offended by an offer of 8K and not even consider it? I just need an economical car that my sister can run into the ground without worry about resale. Is it better just to look for a used vehicle and not even get involved with the hassle on this one?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Sounds like it could be a nice one .. right color, right options, right miles, 4x4, and you say it's a clean one ..

$29,900 is on the "far side" of retail .. he could probably see the mid $23's on a trade, might ring the bell at $24,0 cuz the miles are extra low .. $26,5/$27,0 would be the right money by anyone -- now, on the bug .. sounds nice, right color (Yuk.!) but folks dooo like it, it's an auto, miles are ok, and it's a GLS with the all the stuff ~ on the trade side, she should be seeing "around" that $8,5/$9,0 zipcode, so the dealer is seeing it right .. the Beetles are nice little vehicles, but they are now in abundance and they are more into the spring/summer crowd for the "I gotta have's" ..

Good luck .. I hope you get your vehicle ..

..... I'm sure the Dealer won't have a problem taking a loss on it - but, it's un-titled and he can only go so far with the price , so he's kinda between a rock and a hard place ..

Find out what the invoice is -- minus "any and all rebates" and on this one, I'm sure he will split the holdback .. I would.!

But you may be a lot better off looking for a real nice pre-owned Corolla/Prizm, Protege', Sentra .. all good vehicles and I'm sure, you find a few nice ones out there, with low miles for alot less than $9 ...

I am the "ORIGINAL" owner of a Dark Green "LE"(power seat/16" alloys/driver slider/rear AC) with 98K with 2K/6mos.left on the extended warranty. I truly love the way it rides but 100K is time to pass it along. I am about to look at Dodge, Kia Sedona and Mazda MPV. I can hardly afford the Kia but am very impressed with the warranty and the "ALL IN price" of $23K for the EX.

    Description of my van:
not garaged, average scratches, crack in the front bumper, paint is excellent, interior is excellent,
    rides very much like new.

    Replaced:
    Struts/shocks (last 30K)
    Oil change every 3K
Tires only have 18K (very good)
    Transmission ($2000 repairs under warranty-55K)
    Water Pump-55K
    Power Steering Unit-60K
    Power motors replaced-3 under warranty

    Summary:
The van is still a good running vehicle and looks very nice. However I want a new one!!

    Ques:

    1) Can I get $5500-6000 (more) in the Metroplitan NY area? If not how much?

    Thanks,

    Opa

I am new to this Board but I find it "UNREAL" to look back to 07/09/00 to determine trade in values.

May I suggest deleting all of 2000-2001? Starting with 01/01/02 or even 06/01/02 seems more "REAL".

May I also suggest splitting the board to Chrysler,GM,Ford,Vans,Trucks, Sport Cars and Foreign.

I think the current 10,325 messages and stale dates discourages browsing/posting.

Sorry to be so critical but I hope some of my suggestions are helpful.

    Thx,

    Opa

NOTE: I'm really interested in responses to my message #10,325 dated 01/06/03

If we did that, we would have to delete them every week... =o) Them darn prices move faster than anything else I have seen(including rebates)... =) ... Besides, I don't think the resale guru Terry would want to check out 20 strings a day... afterall, he is a volunteer... =)

...... Opa, babe give it a rest - I'm a little hungover, I'm doing the best I can .. I got 2 computers going, 1 to follow the auctions at "real time" for my own business, the TV's on, so I can follow the stock reports, Jerry Springer, Fox and Friends plus the porno channel and 2 cell phones and 3 phones ringing off the hook for orders .. gheeeeez ....... and besides that, I'm doing this Edmund's stuff for free, cuz' I'm a nice guy, I never even got a T-shirt from these dudes.

Besides all that -- you have a 96, the service is pretty good, the miles are a killer, it's "no-sale" green and there is a kazillion of these runnin' around, sounds like a $1,8/$2,5 vehicle on the trade side .. but, down Retail Rd, in the paper for $4,900 and let the one of those whacked out NY Giants buy it for $3,5/$4,0.

Next time, just plug over to the ~~~~ last post.!

    Your friend and mine ..

    ..... Sounds like a base with a 4 banger .. and lot's, and lot's of miles .. no help there ..

I gotta a feeling, you are describing another $1,500 vehicle at best ..

if she really will run it into the ground, then resale is of no consequence. Since Terry is saying $8K for a slightly used one, then I could see $10K being not such a bad deal on this car since you would get the 10yr/100k warranty on it (which you don't get on a used one).

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Without really putting my hands on it .. checking and making sure all the #'s are on it and getting a "look see" on the repair with my Elco, it's hard to say.

But, if the repair was done 100% pro, no bolts turned, no over spray and it's "all there" .. then it could very well be worth $23 and maybe $24 ~ If, it's just stone cold "bullet proof", cuz it has nooo miles and it has -thee- right color and all the stuff to go with ...

This would be a great vehicle to purchase and thrown in the paper for $27,900 and let it waddle down the driveway for $26,5/$27 .. food for thought.

Can I bug ya for one more?

Still looking for a truck for the ole man, found this one that the dealer wants to kick to the curb. They've had it for 2 years. Ok, its an ex-sloper which hurts it somewhat. BTW, ex-sloper is the term used for a truck that belonged to Alyeska Pipeline company and was run up and down the Dalton hwy, rough life, but well maintained.

    Here goes.....
Its a 1995 Chevy K3500, crew cab, repainted white/silver (was red I'm guessing), new tires/alloys, 6.5L TD (I'm sure that's a deduct, hehehe), auto, no real options on it, its a base, 4WD, 58k miles (probably more if you count engine hours). They are asking $10,995 for it, I'm not sure they will go any lower since they've had it for so long. Soooo, should I think about adding this one to our ever expanding car lot or trot on by to the next one?

    Thanks Terry.....yer a pal!!
  • opa1944opa1944 Member Posts: 16
Thanks for your comments!! I don't like the numbers but "REAL" is what I need to hear. I'll lower my asking price.

Sorry your head is hurting but maybe just deleting everything thru 05/31/02 and forget about the filing and sorting. One other thing if ALL postings started with the make/year it would be easier to search.

    Thanks again,

If you trade a used car for a used car do you get better than auction prices typically?

I have already had the pleasurable experience of getting invoice price on new, but offered auction on my trade.

Since there is more room on a used car do you typically get trade-in value instead of auction if I purchased/traded for a used car?

    Hi opa1944

This particular discussion is not maintained by the dealers and sales professionals who give advice, nor is the information endorsed by Edmunds. Terry and the others provide this information of their own free will, and as long as posts remain within the guidelines of the Membership Agreement (which they do), then this discussion will continue without need to alter its content.

Active discussions remain intact to keep the message board clean and uncluttered. Your suggestion of separate topics for various types of vehicles would create unnecessary multiplicity, which we as hosts try to avoid.

Opa, this particular discussion really is not meant to be a reference tool that community members can use to look up their vehicles' values. We already provide consumers with the ability to search for the True Market Value of used vehicles here on Edmunds.com. This discussion is more of a question and answer session.

I would like to add that I certainly appreciate the fact that Terry is kind enough to share his knowledge of used vehicles' values with everyone here at Edmunds.com.

Gentlemen, my lease on my 00 Saab Convertible (base model but with heated seats)with (by then) 44,000 miles is up in March. Saab USA says residual is $22,000.00; they have yet to make an offer; what can I expect they will actually take?
How much bargaining room will I have? Or should I just turn it in and start anew? Your valuation and input is greatly appreaciated--as always.

I didn't see any indication of where you live in your profile. Since your car is a convertible, that is probably going to be an important piece of information for someone when determining what your car might be worth. For instance, rag tops don't carry their value so well here in NE compared to say... California... especially in winter (March is STILL winter here). You also might want to be a bit more descriptive, like color and condition. In this forum, the more info you give the more likely you'll get a dead-on evaluation.

    Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to inquire about what you think I could get for this vehicle if traded in.

19000 miles and very clean. Located in Pacifica, CA by San Francisco.
5 spd manual with limited slip differential included with performance package
    Air conditioning
    Driver and passenger airbag
    Cd player
    Factory Security system
    16" Factory Alloy Wheels
    Power windows, doors & steering
Fog lights and dual vanity lights
    Power trunk release
plus a Service agreement good through May 2004.
    Black exterior

    Hope you could help me.

    Stebu, Thanks for the pointers.

The convertible is in very good condition (I'd dare to say excellent, but there's always something). It is midnight blue, with a blue top. The only upgrades are the heated seats and a cd player. It is located in New Jersey where, you are correct, March is still a little chilly, but trips to the shore are rapidly approaching!

Any advice and value is greatly appreciated. I would consider biting the bullet for the right price, otherwise, the new 9-3 is looking good.

    Thanks again.

Hey terry---I finally found a car. Tell me what you think. 2001 bmw 325i, he bought it at the end of 2001, and I don't drive much, so it's got a good amount of time on the warranty, automatic, silver outside/black inside, leather, premium package with the xenons and all, original owner selling it, it's got 23,000 miles on it, no accidents/bodywork/paintwork. He's asking 26900, but I was thinking around 26. Is that lowballing him, or am I paying him too much. In advance, thanks for all your help.
  • moparbadmoparbad Member Posts: 3,870
3,000 miles, excellent condition. It has 5 speed as all Civic Si do and it does not have the optional side airbags. No door dings or scratches and it has body side molding from Honda.
Can you provide your estimate please Terry?
    Thanks in advance.

Hey Terry. Thanks for all the info so far. The Mountaineer fell thru (combination of price - he wouldn't go below 10.5; and just kept thinking the ride wasn't as good and i'd be givin up a ton of space). Anyway going to test drive a 2001 green burb LT, 4wd, with mooroof, leather int, 55 K miles (whats 55K, when I've got 110 on my 00 anyway?). its at a honda dealership and they are asking 25K (say its in great shape - we'll see). Any insight is appreciated. Given my finances at this point, I'm seriously considering keeping mine and running it into the ground (should last atleast another 30-40k more with a little prayer). Thanks.
