The lease on my base '98 Intrepid ends in June. My goal is to turn it in without having to pay any additional fees to do so. The lease residule is $7700. My mileage allowance is 60K at turn-in, which I will have about 70K at turn-in. If the actual value of this vehicle is determined to be equal to the residule of $7700, I will owe roughly $2000 at turn-in because of overmileage charges. You had mentioned earlier that these cars were only bringing in $3K-$5K at the auctions, while the book value is listed at $7K-$8K. My question to you is who can I take this car to to get an official apraisal done that more closely reflects its actual value of $3k-$5k, rather than the book value, and how do I get the lease company to accept this apraisal? Thanks.
That said, kinda remember that if you would have calculated your mileage correctly for the lease term, you would be still be paying more dollars a month to compensate it -- whether you pay upfront in payments or at the end in bulk, it still works out the same .. it's kinda like a pair of jeans, whether it comes out of the right pocket - or the left pocket, it still comes out of the Same pair of jeans .. make sense .?
Your lease is going to be up in June .. the lease co's all look at the auction reports before they send them off, right now it's a mute point, what the market will be doing in May/June can be a whole different deal .. they will have a good idea what that puppy might be worth come May and no, they won't accept an "outside" appraisal -- they simply look at the auction reports at that time and say - hmmm, it should do in and around X .. you need to wait til' then and we can plan a possible stratigity ..
Terry.
Even if you can find someone to say the car is worth zero how can this affect your overmileage penalties?
I know that you can negotiate and get lowered the buyout price-but why on earth would the lease company ever waive penalty mileage fees ?
That vehicle "probably" came at them at around $24ish .. with the "certification" ($900) a service, a this, a that, a service, detail, etc, it will probably hit the desk at around $25,5 .. and they gotta make a profit, so figure $27/$27,5 would be a fair price for both ..
Good luck ..

Forgot the SLT, sorry--- Oh yeh, it's a Dodge ---ha ha. Thanks.

I guess he thinks they are "buying back" the car from him. Something like that...
You and Aka with these Mooses ..l.o.l...
If they can see it, I'm guessing around that $8ish zipcode on a trade, it depends on what they see - who knows, you might get a UC mgr that might think it was a little touch-up ..

99' Dakota Ext Cab, SLT 4x4, 65k, new shoes, new front end brakes, highway queen that's never used its Tow package. all goodies no leather Drk Red/blk cloth in Great Lakes region (no prob there).
Well, the miles are no gift here .. but you have the 4x4, V8, ecab, auto, SLT stuff - so if it's a nice one, clean, new sneakers, no weird stuff growing on the interior and no 15 pounds of bondo going on .. then on a trade you are looking in the $8's ..
Good luck ...

I have a friend who is recovering from the telecom shakeout and the last straw is an incident sure to cause a rate increase on his insurance...
He must get rid of his:
99 Porsche Boxster
Blk/Tan
28k mi
E/C, no dings, garage kept
Even though he's in the middle of a long term lease, which he says he's learned his lesson from
I don't remember what he said his lease buy-out was, but I wanted to at least get some prvt party numbers for him, or see if anyone had another suggestion...
Thanks,
Karz
I wonder how that impacts the used Boxster mkt? Is the demand for used Boxster's high enough to not depress pricing?
I'm still interested to know where you guys peg the car, or what other suggestions you may have to try to wait it out or negotiate an early return????? Any ideas are appreciated.
Thanks
Karz
True, assuming he sells it at all, it might behoove him to wait a couple months, even here in the South, after all it is NORTH Carolina, it's not exactly south Florida

Ballpark value?
Thanks!
He ain't gonna like this a bit, even in NC .. "IF" it's a baby doll -- puuuuurfect all the way around, he's gonna be lookin' at $23/$24ish .. I just bought a maroon one for a friend last week with 15k with ALL the stuff for $25,0 .. and this one Glows in the dark ...
The Audi TT kicks butt on the Porsche anyway in my stupid, humble opinion and for a lot less Jingle .. it's hard to see $28/$29 on the retail side for the Porsche.
&- ;amp- ;nbs- p; Terry.
Terry.
I feel you might find the TT will out corner, out run and does have a tendency of keeping the Boxsters on the porch (they don't like the embaresment) .. along with that, nobody can justify that $15++ grand difference - Ouch.!!
Terry :-)
"The Audi TT kicks butt on the Porsche anyway in my stupid, humble opinion and for a lot less Jingle"
Oh c'mon Terry, you're never humble...!
Karz-
It's not all bad news... I mean the payments gotta be very low... even if the "price" was $50k, with 48 mos and 34 residual, he's paying $4k a year in "depreciation" -- that's 300 and change a month... And he's paying interest on the rest; call it 6% rate on 45k on average is $2700/yr... so if they massaged the rates a little, it's gotta be $500/month... not a lot of money for a $50k car.
Never mind. I was thinking that he could get someone to "take over" the remainder of the lease, it it's really a perfect car... but now that I got the calculator out... nobody's gonna want that kind of payment on a used car that isn't worth 30 large.
But your friend got a great deal, no question about it. Sorta like Bottgers, if the residual is way inflated, that's money in the customer's pocket... downside is, you gotta run out the term.
I don't lease, don't have the guts to nail myself down that long. But it can be a really good deal...

I may compare the 225HP TT to the G35 coupe. The Boxster is out of my budget. The one I got to drive belonged to one of my husband's co-workers who tossed me the keys as I was drooling over it a couple of years ago.
I really want to like the TT. My first car was a Karmann Ghia and the TT seems like the modern interpretation of the Ghia to me. But I'm infatuated with the G35 at the moment. . .
However, if Chevy comes out with a new pony car in the next couple years, that's what I'll probably end up with if I'm still at this dealership.
Spelling not important anyway, right? :-)
l..o..l... Man, have you ever seen my spelling ..?
Now I gotta hire a translator ..

Also looking for a 2001 330i, manual, premium, sport, heated seats, HK, zenons. What should I expect to pay CPO or private party.
Terry.
If this is a "baby doll" .. lookin' and driving' like it has 20k, deep in rubber, service is 110% and no weird kisses or paintwork .. then on the trade side you are looking in and around that high $16's, ultra low $17's figure ..
If ya go down Retail Rd, then I would drop it in the paper for $19,900 and kiss it goodbye for $18,500/$19,500 ~ the miles are just killing you here ...
Terry.
Thoughts on a '01 330i with manual, sport, premium, zenons, HK. 18k miles. Certifed BMW with the 6yr 100k. What is this worth. White with black interior. Thanks a bunch
Dealer probably got it for $27ish, then add the "certification" $900, service, stuff, detail, a this and a that yatty yatty .. probably comes to the table in and around $28,5 .. they will wanna make a profit, I'm thinkin' $30,9 ~ but, I would start em' at $29,9 and get a reaction ..
Good luck and let me know ...
Terry.
Ok, on that 1991 Ford F-250 it has just over 100k (our friend was mistaken), its a lariat, loaded up, x-cab, longbed, 7.5L V-8, new tires/brakes, supposed to be a baby doll. Asking $6000.
On the 1995 Chevy K3500 crew cab, its in good shape, new tires, 58k, 6.5L TD, asking $10,995. You said before that it would bring around $7500? They told me they will take any offer on it, I jokingly asked if they would take $9000 for it and they said not a problem. I'm thinking when it comes right down to the actual write up I'm going to offer $8000. This sound like a pretty fair deal?
What would be your pick as far as the best deal goes?
Thanks, yer a pal.....as always.
I appreciate your help. It helps me sleep better knowing I'm not making bad decisions. My wife thanks you to

I am getting all confused by so many different prices on the same car.
The car(s) I am interested are
1. Silver 2000 SLK 230, 26,000, sport model, my friends car. It got into a little fender bender, due to which they had to put in a new trunk top and had to readjust the top. She is asking for
$28,000 for it.
Edmunds thinks that this car is around 25K for private party. I don't think it is taking into consideration that its a sports model.
The dealers list cars from 31,000 onwards..
Ebay is down to 24K on 2000 model.
And not many people seem to be buying or selling this model.
2. 99 SLK 28000 miles, non sport model. Wants 26K for it. Don't know anything about the car. I think its still under warranty for about a few months more.
Any opinions/suggestions ?
Should I get any extended warranty on this car ?
Does the warranty take care of any issues with the hard top ?
Thanks
If they have had that dude for a while, I'm sure there watching the auction reports .. it being a repaint is going to kill it and I'm sure other folks have noticed it (I would think) l.o.l.
If they got Reeeal lucky, they might see $8,0 maybe even $8,5 with it being a full moon and all, but there is the cost of transport, auction fees, detail, etc, just to test the waters ..
Yep, I Would start em' at $8,0 and see what happens, the only saving grace is it's a dsl and the miles, there xtra low for the year ~ and of course, I don't have to recommend to have it checked out, it mighta hit a Moose ... the 91 seems to be priced a little high, 100k and 13 yrs old. the saving grace is, it's a long bed, dsl and ecab ~ but $4ish gives me more of a warm and fuzzy .. the 95 for $8ish or the 91 for $4ish, if they both checked out 100%, then I would be driving the 95.
I hope this helps and stay warm ..
Terry.
