We have briefly touched on this before, but I was wondering if you could clarify something for me.

The lease on my base '98 Intrepid ends in June. My goal is to turn it in without having to pay any additional fees to do so. The lease residule is $7700. My mileage allowance is 60K at turn-in, which I will have about 70K at turn-in. If the actual value of this vehicle is determined to be equal to the residule of $7700, I will owe roughly $2000 at turn-in because of overmileage charges. You had mentioned earlier that these cars were only bringing in $3K-$5K at the auctions, while the book value is listed at $7K-$8K. My question to you is who can I take this car to to get an official apraisal done that more closely reflects its actual value of $3k-$5k, rather than the book value, and how do I get the lease company to accept this apraisal? Thanks.

...... You need to give yourself a break with all this .. your going to start floppin' around with a heart attack with all this grief ..

That said, kinda remember that if you would have calculated your mileage correctly for the lease term, you would be still be paying more dollars a month to compensate it -- whether you pay upfront in payments or at the end in bulk, it still works out the same .. it's kinda like a pair of jeans, whether it comes out of the right pocket - or the left pocket, it still comes out of the Same pair of jeans .. make sense .?

Your lease is going to be up in June .. the lease co's all look at the auction reports before they send them off, right now it's a mute point, what the market will be doing in May/June can be a whole different deal .. they will have a good idea what that puppy might be worth come May and no, they won't accept an "outside" appraisal -- they simply look at the auction reports at that time and say - hmmm, it should do in and around X .. you need to wait til' then and we can plan a possible stratigity ..

Even if you can find someone to say the car is worth zero how can this affect your overmileage penalties?
I know that you can negotiate and get lowered the buyout price-but why on earth would the lease company ever waive penalty mileage fees ?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... Oh yeah, they would love You with a $38,000 figure .l.o.l.

That vehicle "probably" came at them at around $24ish .. with the "certification" ($900) a service, a this, a that, a service, detail, etc, it will probably hit the desk at around $25,5 .. and they gotta make a profit, so figure $27/$27,5 would be a fair price for both ..

               Good luck ..

..... This is probably not a bad little ride .. a dealer will be lookin' at this at around that $1,5ish figure -- GREAT vehicle for Retail Rd ~ $3,900 in the paper and a big kiss, a hug and wave goodbye at $2,9/$3,5 ..

gotta shoot over to F&I to see Bottgers latest escapade. He wanted to try and tell the finance co that the car was only worth 3-4, so that with his 2k in fee's, he should just be able to return the car and owe nothing.

I guess he thinks they are "buying back" the car from him. Something like that...

=) First I have heard of that strategy... =)
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... Kinda tuff to hit this one .. I would have to feel, touch and smell this one and the miles are a little on the tall side --

You and Aka with these Mooses ..l.o.l...

If they can see it, I'm guessing around that $8ish zipcode on a trade, it depends on what they see - who knows, you might get a UC mgr that might think it was a little touch-up ..

We do a lot of driving here in SE New York. My 98 Jeep has 92k miles on it, so 38k on a 2000 honda seems low to me. Even with all the golf courses as close as they are, you still got to hit as many as you can as often as you can, and also that little thing called commuting daily to work really adds up the miles.
  • mirthmirth Member Posts: 1,212
Terry - not exactly sure what the clutter is, but "&nbsp" is an web page (html) code for a space. "&amp" is the web code for "&". Not sure why you'ld be getting those. What kind of browser are you using (IE, Netscape)?

    Third times a charm right?

99' Dakota Ext Cab, SLT 4x4, 65k, new shoes, new front end brakes, highway queen that's never used its Tow package. all goodies no leather Drk Red/blk cloth in Great Lakes region (no prob there).
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
........ Yep, the 3rd time is the charm .. l.o.l..

Well, the miles are no gift here .. but you have the 4x4, V8, ecab, auto, SLT stuff - so if it's a nice one, clean, new sneakers, no weird stuff growing on the interior and no 15 pounds of bondo going on .. then on a trade you are looking in the $8's ..

              Good luck ...

Good to see you guys again...

I have a friend who is recovering from the telecom shakeout and the last straw is an incident sure to cause a rate increase on his insurance...

He must get rid of his:

    99 Porsche Boxster
    Blk/Tan
    28k mi
    E/C, no dings, garage kept

Even though he's in the middle of a long term lease, which he says he's learned his lesson from :)

I don't remember what he said his lease buy-out was, but I wanted to at least get some prvt party numbers for him, or see if anyone had another suggestion...

    Thanks,
    Karz
  • bretfrazbretfraz Member Posts: 2,021
I keep hearing these are thick on the ground. Porsche is using incentives to move them and prices are dropping.

I wonder how that impacts the used Boxster mkt? Is the demand for used Boxster's high enough to not depress pricing?
  • karz10karz10 Member Posts: 106
Ok, I think my friend is screwed...His 48mo lease expires in July '04, he said a couple months ago, he checked the buyout to be in the $34k range, and based on the numbers I saw on Edmunds pricer, even w/ their credit for the roll bars, wind screen, 18" wheels etc ($1700 edmunds options) and the $525 bump for the miles, he's still $7k in the hole on a private.

I'm still interested to know where you guys peg the car, or what other suggestions you may have to try to wait it out or negotiate an early return????? Any ideas are appreciated.

    Thanks

Seeing as it's the middle of January, I don't think Boxters are going to be too hot anywhere, but especially not somewhere like here in Chicago, it's currently 19 degrees!!
  • karz10karz10 Member Posts: 106
good point, i guess i assumed that they would assume my friend is here near me in North Carolina

True, assuming he sells it at all, it might behoove him to wait a couple months, even here in the South, after all it is NORTH Carolina, it's not exactly south Florida :)

    .... Whooo, the residual is $34 ..?

He ain't gonna like this a bit, even in NC .. "IF" it's a baby doll -- puuuuurfect all the way around, he's gonna be lookin' at $23/$24ish .. I just bought a maroon one for a friend last week with 15k with ALL the stuff for $25,0 .. and this one Glows in the dark ...

The Audi TT kicks butt on the Porsche anyway in my stupid, humble opinion and for a lot less Jingle .. it's hard to see $28/$29 on the retail side for the Porsche.

...... Miles are low, low, low .. but it's a handshaker, so if it's as nice as you say it is .. then the low low $12's, high $11's ..

              Terry.
  • caramocaramo Member Posts: 93
The TT is cute and all, but having actually driven both, I'd have to go with the Boxster. Granted, I only drove one of the 180HP TT's. . . But then, it was only a regular Boxster I drove, not the S.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... I see your from Vegas .. so you won't have to wait til' the springtime for some test drives -- check out the TT 225 before you make that Boxster "S" decision ..

I feel you might find the TT will out corner, out run and does have a tendency of keeping the Boxsters on the porch (they don't like the embaresment) .. along with that, nobody can justify that $15++ grand difference - Ouch.!!

    Terry-
"The Audi TT kicks butt on the Porsche anyway in my stupid, humble opinion and for a lot less Jingle"

Oh c'mon Terry, you're never humble...!

    Karz-
It's not all bad news... I mean the payments gotta be very low... even if the "price" was $50k, with 48 mos and 34 residual, he's paying $4k a year in "depreciation" -- that's 300 and change a month... And he's paying interest on the rest; call it 6% rate on 45k on average is $2700/yr... so if they massaged the rates a little, it's gotta be $500/month... not a lot of money for a $50k car.

Never mind. I was thinking that he could get someone to "take over" the remainder of the lease, it it's really a perfect car... but now that I got the calculator out... nobody's gonna want that kind of payment on a used car that isn't worth 30 large.

But your friend got a great deal, no question about it. Sorta like Bottgers, if the residual is way inflated, that's money in the customer's pocket... downside is, you gotta run out the term.

I don't lease, don't have the guts to nail myself down that long. But it can be a really good deal...

website still around? There was a service where people could offer their leases to others if they wanted out of the car.

It will be at least a year before I think about another vehicle, since I've only had my Z28 for 6 months. So I won't be wasting any fellow salesperson's time on test drives in the near future.

I may compare the 225HP TT to the G35 coupe. The Boxster is out of my budget. The one I got to drive belonged to one of my husband's co-workers who tossed me the keys as I was drooling over it a couple of years ago.

I really want to like the TT. My first car was a Karmann Ghia and the TT seems like the modern interpretation of the Ghia to me. But I'm infatuated with the G35 at the moment. . .

However, if Chevy comes out with a new pony car in the next couple years, that's what I'll probably end up with if I'm still at this dealership.
  • caramocaramo Member Posts: 93
Yep, it's still out there. A co-worker was looking into it just a couple of days ago.
  • mirthmirth Member Posts: 1,212
Terry - that explains it. When you go to the Check Spelling page, the browser stores your message in a hidden field. The AOL browser must be converting some characters to the html codes. Not much you can do about it other than use a different browser or stop doing spell check.

Spelling not important anyway, right? :-)

...still around. I also have a coworker who was just looking at it. He has an 02 Jetta 1.8T that still has about 20 mos left. He's into it for almost $400/month!!! But compared to the 300M he turned in, he is saving almost $200/month.

Although he has been driving Enterprise's best Stratus for almost a month now since the Jetta is awaiting ignition cassettes.

Approximate auction prices for a 95-96 Mercedes E320 wagon. All the goodies, must have heated seats. Color not important, so long as it has a color. (not white, silver or black)

    Around 100K miles.

Got any contacts around So Cal?

I have the above with steptronic, premium/sport package, zenons, navigation, and heated seats. White with tan leatherette. 70k miles. I am the original owner. No dings, great paint and great interior. Non-smoker. What should I expect to get if I sell privately. I will not trade this in as I feel you loose too much. I have a buyer but want to check to make sure my price is in line with what you think.

Also looking for a 2001 330i, manual, premium, sport, heated seats, HK, zenons. What should I expect to pay CPO or private party.

..... You didn't give me much to work with (area) .. let's just say it's just a good vehicle and it may need just a little work, not much, just a little .. on a trade, you are lookin' in and around the low $10's ~ if it's a nice one, probably the high $10's, low $11's ..

            Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... You not gonna get any help with all those miles .. ouch.!

If this is a "baby doll" .. lookin' and driving' like it has 20k, deep in rubber, service is 110% and no weird kisses or paintwork .. then on the trade side you are looking in and around that high $16's, ultra low $17's figure ..

If ya go down Retail Rd, then I would drop it in the paper for $19,900 and kiss it goodbye for $18,500/$19,500 ~ the miles are just killing you here ...

            Terry.
  • cecilt1cecilt1 Member Posts: 74
Thanks. I have it sold for 19,500 and it needs new tires(buyer is paying for these). Glad to know I got a good deal.

Thoughts on a '01 330i with manual, sport, premium, zenons, HK. 18k miles. Certifed BMW with the 6yr 100k. What is this worth. White with black interior. Thanks a bunch
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Hey, good for you on the last one ..! $19,5 is A L L the money ..

Dealer probably got it for $27ish, then add the "certification" $900, service, stuff, detail, a this and a that yatty yatty .. probably comes to the table in and around $28,5 .. they will wanna make a profit, I'm thinkin' $30,9 ~ but, I would start em' at $29,9 and get a reaction ..

Good luck and let me know ...

One more time and then I promise I'll leave you alone for a while......hehehe.

Ok, on that 1991 Ford F-250 it has just over 100k (our friend was mistaken), its a lariat, loaded up, x-cab, longbed, 7.5L V-8, new tires/brakes, supposed to be a baby doll. Asking $6000.

On the 1995 Chevy K3500 crew cab, its in good shape, new tires, 58k, 6.5L TD, asking $10,995. You said before that it would bring around $7500? They told me they will take any offer on it, I jokingly asked if they would take $9000 for it and they said not a problem. I'm thinking when it comes right down to the actual write up I'm going to offer $8000. This sound like a pretty fair deal?

What would be your pick as far as the best deal goes?

    Thanks, yer a pal.....as always.
  • cecilt1cecilt1 Member Posts: 74
After negotiating with the dealer on the 330i as described above we settled on $29.5 with the CPO 6 year/100k as well(pending more pics, a test drive from a friend in the area near the dealer yada yada yada). I assume from your posts that my 2 deals are winners and I should jump on them. 1 concern is the black interior. I live in VA. Will this hurt me. I have to travel to NY to get the BMW and I assume black is more popular up there for interior colors.

I appreciate your help. It helps me sleep better knowing I'm not making bad decisions. My wife thanks you to :)

Terry - my grandmother is looking to trade in her 1994 Cutlass Ciera, 55K miles, 6 cylinder, auto, cruise, leather, keyless, am/fm cassette. She recently had the doors repainted because of rust problems, so it's a repaint but it looks nice now. Pretty clean, hardly any chips or dings. Detroit area. What do you think trade-in or retail? I think she'd be happy to get a gee whiz on trade.

I would like to know the trade in value for a 1998 Nissan Maxima GXE. I live in the Bay Area in California. Has 67,000 miles. Its clean inside and out. The front bumper has a lot of nicks from rocks on the highways, otherwise paint is in great condition. Interior is free of stains, funny smells, etc. The rear bumper, only on the right side is a shade darker then the rest of the body panel. Blue book value was ~$7700, black book was ~$8600. I'm going to be purchasing a new car in a months time, and looks like I'm going to be trading it in. I'd like to know roughly how much I will get for the trade in. If anyone can please help me, thanks.

reposting it here from slk thread.
    ---------------
I am getting all confused by so many different prices on the same car.

The car(s) I am interested are

    1. Silver 2000 SLK 230, 26,000, sport model, my friends car. It got into a little fender bender, due to which they had to put in a new trunk top and had to readjust the top. She is asking for
    $28,000 for it.

Edmunds thinks that this car is around 25K for private party. I don't think it is taking into consideration that its a sports model.

The dealers list cars from 31,000 onwards..
Ebay is down to 24K on 2000 model.

And not many people seem to be buying or selling this model.

    2. 99 SLK 28000 miles, non sport model. Wants 26K for it. Don't know anything about the car. I think its still under warranty for about a few months more.

    Any opinions/suggestions ?

Should I get any extended warranty on this car ?

Does the warranty take care of any issues with the hard top ?

    Thanks

.... Our little snow angel ..

If they have had that dude for a while, I'm sure there watching the auction reports .. it being a repaint is going to kill it and I'm sure other folks have noticed it (I would think) l.o.l.

If they got Reeeal lucky, they might see $8,0 maybe even $8,5 with it being a full moon and all, but there is the cost of transport, auction fees, detail, etc, just to test the waters ..

Yep, I Would start em' at $8,0 and see what happens, the only saving grace is it's a dsl and the miles, there xtra low for the year ~ and of course, I don't have to recommend to have it checked out, it mighta hit a Moose ... the 91 seems to be priced a little high, 100k and 13 yrs old. the saving grace is, it's a long bed, dsl and ecab ~ but $4ish gives me more of a warm and fuzzy .. the 95 for $8ish or the 91 for $4ish, if they both checked out 100%, then I would be driving the 95.

I hope this helps and stay warm ..

              Terry.
