..... Well, uuuh .. hmmm, we have a little hit here, a little hit there, we have an issue here, we have an issue there .. without really seeing this pup I would say it's worth somewhere "around" $15ish .. there not making any land speed records now, what it may be worth in a year - who knows .. maybe the $12's .. drive it, pay the Xtra miles, get a hobby making jaded bracelets .. when the lease is up, say "hasta La vista" .. no more Saab's, unless you can buy them used and cheap.

.... Great vehicles and they are a Super buy right now .. they will seem like bargain basement prices when the new "5" thing comes out with the new Grand Am grille ... what is BMW thinking ..?

    Bill and Terry,

While I await the private seller with his 98 V70T5 to come down off whatever it is he's smoking with his $16,750 asking price, I keep looking around. As an aside, the local Volvo dealer sold an identical black/black V70 T5 2 months ago, with an ASKING price of $14995... shoulda gotten there sooner.

But anyway, I saw the following on a dealer's website, so I haven't seen it in person as yet.

    1998 Mercedes E320 wagon
white over parchment leather (not tex from the pictures)
    slider,
    AM/FM/ cassette no CD
    all the usual Mercedes goodies

now for the killer.... 73,677 miles.

And the Jag/Land Rover dealer in Jacksonville (Bill, do you know him, by chance?) is asking $23,999. I think they're a tad optimistic, but what do y'all think?

    Thanks again!

Looking at a 2001 Audi A6 2.8. Cold weather package, leather seats, moonroof. Black. Great shape, four new tires, 21k miles. Private seller asking 25,900. Good deal?

Tan Navi has 49.5k and ALL options (incl. roof)other than navigation system. Dealer is asking $21.9 for a no trade deal which is way below what Edmunds says trade value is - so that's why I'm inquiring. Vehicle is in great shape cosmetically Tow wiring is still in glove box unopened. Thanks for your help.
  • jonbgoodjonbgood Member Posts: 157
We might trade this off vs. selling ourselves. Has 97.5k miles. Very clean. Has tow pkg. and alarm. Does not have ONStar. Its a blue/green color with gold pkg and new Yokahamas all the way around. Thanks.

your reply on the saab, even if it isn't what i really what i was hoping for. 12k from a 41k list is a long way in 3 years; buy out is 18k.
on the other hand, it gives me quite few months to influence her in another direction. she seems to keep her cars for about 6 years. btw her prior vehicle was a black v8 sho with chrome rims, so i think she can be rehab'ed.
a little story; had an oil leak. service called me up to say it was fixed; the said although they pulled the engine to replace the rear seal, that wasn't it. good thing i was sitting down!

Not sure if you guys care, but I'm trading my '00 Yukon SLE ($20k for the trade) for an '03 XL... and I'm picking it up tomorrow!!!!
The deal gets better and better...

The '03 is a stripper so the MSRP is a bit over $40k... they'll sell it for under $35.9 (GMS). The regular rebate is $3k. And GMS gets a $250 kicker rebate... and GM just announced a $500 rebate if you buy by July 4 plus I have another $1000 in GM Card Rebates (after July 31 you cannot use GM Card rebate w/GMS)... and I will be getting a $1600 refund on my MajorGuard extended warranty on the '00. so I would be out of pocket in the mid $9k range! UNREAL!!!!

For those who think that trucks dont have feelings... since pulling the trigger on the deal my '00, which has given us basically no trouble to date, blew the drivers power window motor on Tuesday and then got pulled over by a cop on Wednesday for a tail light being out!!!

..... Big bucks ....? hahaha .. Edmunds has yet to give me a T-shirt or a glass of milk, if it wasn't for my paper route I would be in trouble ..

I knew that Fat Daddy wouldn't last long .. $32,0 .! ~ Good for him, did great, he got the whole "Coma Se' Yama" and the bag of chips as he should, can't get em' - can't find em' ..

Your boy with the Benz is going to be in a little trouble, lot's of SL's for sale. I just bought a -02- with 5k, the same color as his, paid $51,0 and the first $53,5/$54 is an owner in a quick way, he's crazy at $57,0 for an 01 .. he should have grabbed that $12,5 on the Caddy and done cartwheels all the way down the street ~~ like I always say "Ego" is a very costly thing.

But seriously, thank you for the compliment .. what kind of steaks, Black Angus.?

...... Shop around on that repair bill, the dealer will and can charge more, but on the other hand you hafta watch most of these repair shops, they make Jesse James look like a Boy Scout ..

Ok, we have back-up beep beep, it's an SE, dual air? alloys ..? SE's ordered in 00 could have deletes, that means single air, no overhead, no wheels .. but I will peg this one with the stuff .. miles are stiff and the color is just kinda ok for NC .. with the repair, in and around the $8's on a trade, Kazillions of these running around.

On a personal note, please email me I have a stupid question (as always) ..

                          Terry.

    ..... Not a Grand right ..? it's a GP25 .. right.?

Miles are tall for the year, sounds like a rental .. $17,900 ..? .. Sounds like a super good price - If, you have been marooned on a island off the New Zealand coast for the last 5 years .. couldn't have much more than $14,0 in it, maybe .. $16/$16,5 would be ALL of it ..

Let me know what happens ..

...... An R/T huh .? .. actually these were pretty nice vehicles in their day, now that I think about they are great vehicles now, just a little a head of their time .. hmmm, maybe Chrysler/Mitsu should start making them all over again ..

100k, well if it's a nice one - cold air, cleeeean, seats look 99ish, deep rubber, little or no scrapes, no-repaint, needs almost -0- .. then trade side you might be seeing $2,5/$3,0ish ~ down Retail Rd, $6,9 in the paper and $5,5/$6,5 sends it off to summer camp .. if it needs stuff, start deducting ..

                          Terry.

It's an '03 Grand Caravan. They advertised it and called it just a Caravan, but a quick Carfax check shows it's a Grand. BTW, it's a $17.5K no haggle price. Does this put it more in the ballpark?

Sorry Terry, my mistake, I'll be going to my room now... sheesh.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ...... Another Hooooonda ..

Well it is an EX, miles are a little stiff, color is kinda ho-hum, but we have New rubber and the service is 100% .. trade side, in and around the high $13's, low $14's, but it is DC, you guys should be on the Left Coast with those prices ... down Retail Rd, hmmm, this is a funny price range for these in the 99/01's, but with a Superb detail a wonderful 5 liner Ad, $16,900 in the paper and put the Ego aside and start high five n' at $15,5/$16,5 ...

                 let me know ...

                       Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Aaah, does the dealers first letter begin with "M" ..? .. is this a AWD ....?

It's gotta be .. with those kind of miles they can't have $15ish in it ... $19 would be the Center of the world .. $23,9 ..? it's an AWD - right ...?

                Work with Me here ....!!!!!

                         Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... 3,400 miles, super extra, ultra low miles .. based on what you are telling me "it's a baby doll" - right .? no hit's no runs, no errors .. ?

Believe it or not, if it's "jam-up and jelly tight" it might, could, maybe be worth $16,0 on the wholesale side - one minor draw back ~ the color. Carnival Red sells like popcorn on a XJS or a XK8, but on a XJR that market dwindles way down .. but it's the right time of the year .. $19,900 would be a good asking price, but if someone has "El Casho" and is a "Now" buyer, then I would be grabbing $17,9/$18,9 ...

                    Terry.

Yes, the dealer's name does start with M...

I haven't seen the car in person, so I don't know if it is a 4Matic or not, but for that money, and at an Land Rover store, I'd think it has to be. The prices on the rest of their inventory seem to be a little more in line with normal.

The description on the website doesn't list AWD on it, and there really isn't much need for it in Florida, but ya never know. Next time I get down to Jacksonville, I'll have to stop in and take a look at it, and I'll let ya know if it's AWD.

'01 Nissan Maxima GXE- dark green, 4 door, 34000 miles, 3.0 L V6, AUTO, power drivers seat, moonroof, autodim rearview mirror, steering wheel stereo controls, CD player, alloy wheels, garage door opener.
Dealer listed at $15800, got him down to $14500. Then I see the CarFax: Car was registered as rental car for "major car rental company" until 21,900 miles
    Edmunds.com says it's worth $16075 retail...
Took it to Goodyear, it checked out just fine. Plan to buy warranty plan from 1Source.
    Should I pay $14500??

    Thanks for your help.

thanks rroyce10... yeah its pretty much, straight from the factory condition, no issues at all, hell its never seen rain or snow.. or a shopping center parking lot...i even have the original window sticker...$66,780 Got for a steal since we were on very good terms with the dealership from a prior 92 VDP deal (flamenco red)
the dealer im working a deal with here on Long Island showed me a galves price of 16,783 but said he'd make some calls and would likely be able to kick it up to 18-19 on trade, if it does not go to that price then i'm gonna keep it since im pretty sure it wont have too big a problem in the near future...

    Hi,

Two years ago, Bill and Terry gave me a spot-on estimate for a Private Party sale of my old Subaru (thanks guys!) Now my husband is selling his car:

    Honda Accord EX'97 Wagon AT

Silver ext / light beige int
90K mi, everything works, new tires

no accidents, original owner, no scratches or dings, all records

what should we expect to get for it, if selling via newspaper/internet?

    thanks!

I was told to consult you terry,

1977 Volvo 264 Sedan GL 4 door Anniversary Model, only 500 were made, what is a fair estimation of it's value? (condition is good based on year)
  • bretfrazbretfraz Member Posts: 2,021
For Terry to give you an accurate valuation he's gonna need:

    Mileage
    Regional Location
Any accidents or recent major repairs
Does it need anything like tires, brakes, etc
    Color inside and out
Options or special equipt (moonroof, alloys, snowplow, etc)

The more descriptive you can be the more accurate info you will receive.

On behalf of Terry, the Master Of The Sand Trap, the Water Hazard Hellion, the King Of All Duffers, I thank you.

    Location.
    Engine 4,6 cyl.
    ALL equipment and options.

That said, it is a Honda. Miles are a bit on the high side, except for people looking for a Honda (will limit the interest some). Most people looking for a Honda today with that kind of cargo room want an SUV. The Accord is not one of the prettier looking wagons on the road, but it is a Honda.

In general, $8,000'ish for an EX at 97K is not an unreasonable asking price, $7500 and it should find a new home. Do not be disappointed if it takes some time to sell the car, the Accord Wagon can be a tough one to move depending on the market at the time, and finding the right buyer.

You could try asking for more, NADA book retail shows over $10,000. But in reality look at what $10,000 will buy today. A 2001 Sable Wagon with 50K miles on it and 3 year 36K warranty.

.... Yeah, let me know on this one, I would be interested .. I played golf with a Jag dealer today and he felt about the same way .. $16ish on the wholesale side, on his lot $21,9 asking to cover any trade allowances, a little shy in the color dept ..

                        Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... If the history is clean, deep sneakers, the service is 100%, no-repaints, no I ran my 4x4 into a street person then drove it home stuff, then $21,9 is a fair price, dealer probably has $20ish in it .. it has almost 50k, warranty is up and I "assume" the dealer is just trying to make things happen AND - it's the end of the month ..

Besides all that, Edmunds, Nada, KBB, Better Homes and Garden, Golf Digest are a *guide line*, they try to get you into a "ballpark", it's extremely hard too know what vehicles are really doing unless they spend sometime researching auctions, the region, the weather and what Aunt Bee is making for dinner ... ;)

                       Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Depending on where you live, that's a good "asking" price .. it's black, that's a yankee color, right options if you live north, the miles are nice and low and new rubber .... Soooo, if it's nice and no re-paints a fair price for both would be around $25,0 that would be fair for both ... sounds nice, so don't lose it for Hun here and Hun there ..

Good luck and Don't forget to let me know what happens ..

.... I guess this is the trade for the Navigator ..?

lot's of miles going on here .. this will be going straight to the auction .. trade side the high $5's, low $6's .. down Retail Rd, $8,5 in the paper and 6,9/$7,5 get's a new owner and this is all based on it being a clean one, looking and feeling like 30k, cold air and no weird science experiments on the rear seats .. you gotta be careful with the sale of high mileage vehicles, they hafta be priced right, look new, definately ALL the service records ready, etc, etc ..

                    Good luck ... !

... and I thought I'd post it here, being that's where the brain power is, and all.

Lady at work takes her '96 Isuzu Oasis in for repair. Goes to pick it up, but the car is now totaled. They wrecked it during the test drive. Don't know the particulars, shop says they were not at fault in the accident. Of course, in MI, we have no-fault insurance anyway (*).

Anyway, here's where it gets funny: They are asking her to pay for the repair. I have made up my mind on what I think, but what say you all?

The online used car value estimators mentioned don't seem to have enough data to be accurate. Based on their estimates I was expecting $10 to $11 K for a private sale of a 2000 Jetta in outstanding condx. One even suggested $13K. (Terry suggested $8 - 9). After 6 weeks of advertising, had to settle for $9K, then to rub salt in my wound, PA DOT asked me to sign a statement explaining why I didn't sell it for $13K, since that's what their little book says it's worth! I felt like stating, I wish I had sold it to them if that's what they think it's worth.

How can one inform the online engines what is really happening in the market?

Want to hear a funny one?

I was kind of looking around today and stopped at Cal Worthington Ford in Anchorage. I have toyed with the idea of trading my 94 K2500 for something smaller, like an SUV.

Anyway, found this nice 1996 Explorer on thier lot. It was an XLT, 4wd, pwr win/locks, a/c, am/fm/cass, red/gray, 92k, auto, V6. Nice truck, clean and in good shape......well, except for the horrible smell, it smelled like someone stored cat kennels inside it, the cat pee smell was overwhelming. Even so, I was still interested in it. I figured it should be pretty close to an even trade.

They appraised my truck.....1994 Chevy K2500, x-cab, longbed, 4wd, silverado, red/black with gray interior, all the pwr stuff, a/c, am/fm/cass, 137k in excellent condition......hit it at $4500.

I was straight up with the salesman (really cool guy too) that I wanted no cash out of pocket, just an even swap. He goes to book out the Explorer and comes back pissed. He said that the thing booked retail at $8k and they were in it $7k, with wholesale being around $4k. He said I was right, it SHOULD have been an even swap, but some dummy put too much money into the stupid thing.

Am I off my rocker thinking I can find a little bit newer vehicle for an even swap? Maybe a 96ish SUV with under 100k.

Buy full-size. Better yet, stick with what you've got.
I had the cousin; '92 Aerostar, 110-134k miles. Somethign wrong every 3 months. diff leaks, engine leaks, trans leaks, tie rods, ball joints, coolant leaks, engine leaks again... should i continue? Bought it "right", but still the most expensive vehicle I ever owned, including some I bought new. If a truck, get a full-size. Or a Tacoma, but that's different. I learned my lesson.

WHY in the world do you want a cat-pee mobile?
You just want a different car every 4 months... I know the feeling, I"m the same way. But don't do this now.
    Good luck,
    -Mathias

...... Now that's a little better .. so you can come out of your room and check this ..

It's an SE GC, 17k, dual this dual that .. 3.0 V6 right .? still sounds like a rental, that's not a bad thing, but they can be bought at the auctions for a few less $$'s .. I'm figuring they have the ultra high $15's in it .. $17,5 no haggle .? try em' at $16,9 and see what happens .. all they can do is a 3 minute rendition of "As the world Turns" and say no, but all in all the price is not a bad one ..

...... Welcome back .! .. your just in time for a knitting class thats starts in about 15 minutes, pull up a chair and have some of our world renowned ginseng tea and grab some twine, today we start sweaters .. ;-)

It's a 97 Accord wagon EX, 90k, but if it's a clean one, then no fear ~ we have auto, so we got some help there, it a darn good color, based on what you are telling me its clean, hopefully new rubber and all the service .. it's worth maybe $5ish on a trade ..

Down the street, turn left and thats Retail Rd, after a great 5 liner ad, a great description and a great detail .. $7,900 "asking" and the first cash buyer with an American Flag pin can take it home for $6,5/$7,5 ..

    Hi Terry/Bill.
ok, saw this on the lot at the local Lexus dealer in East Tennessee (right up your alley Bill). 1999 GS400 w/ 34,500 miles. tan leather, heated seats, vsc, nak system, chrome wheels.... doesn't have nav. this sounds stupid, but couldn't tell the color at night, its either the dark blue or black, but either way, its a dark color. I am assuming with this sitting on the Lexus lot at a certified, that the car is in pretty "tight", or darn near excellent and needing -0-. Didn't see any scratches/dings, inside looked clean from what I could see. What are these pulling at the auctions these days? What would be a fair price for it?

    thanks in advance!
