Picking this up tomorrow. 1997 Ford Explorer Limited, V8, auto, AWD, purple/gray, 41k, all the toys, leather, pwr everything, sunroof, in puurrrrfect shape. $11551 OTD
Trading in my 1994 Chevy K2500 x-cab longbed, 7.4L V8, auto, 4wd, black/red with gray interior, pwr windows/locks, am/fm/cass, 138k, in good shape, but needs brakes and a few other things. Getting $5500 for it.
So, basically a $6051 difference, my soon to be ex is buying me the Explorer. At least I won't have to worry about a vehicle for a while, he will make me keep it since his name will be on it too. He wanted the kids and me to have something safe and more reliable than the K2500 which seems to be wanting to fall apart on me.
I promise, I'll stay far, far away from the car lots from now on. *uncrossing fingers from behind her back*
Ya know, nothing major .. could it be it's a 2WD .. -or- .. perhaps it's a 4WD ..? 5.9 V8 ... ?
Hey don't get up, my neighbor usually gets up about this time, I will just go ask him ....
OFF with your head, then OFF to your room -- no dinner, breakfast, lunch, snacks, wine, beer, coke, scotch, rum, whisky for a month .... !

I have a feeling with a little shopping around you can get a new one for about $1,0/$1,5 over invoice, especially from a dealer with bunches on the ground .. lot's of Competitation around right now, Audi TT's and the new Cabriolets just for starters ..
Terry.
Just wondering what my vehicle is worth as a trade-in. Thanks in advance!
2000 Subaru Outback (base model)
color = winestone

Automatic

And you chose an Explorer? Huh?
I've lived in Alaska for 13 years and I think I've seen maybe 2 Explorers rolled......the rest has been cars (lots of Ford Escorts and even a couple PT Cruisers), Toyota 4Runners, bigger SUV's like Expeditions, Excursions, Suburbans, Tahoes, and pickup trucks.
Walk into any junkyard and you will see a variety of vehicles that are rollovers and the majority are not Explorers.
But anyway, it looks sharp, right color, miles are low for the year and you live in a great area for a Subaru, they seem to do stupid money up in that Milwaukee area .. trade side, you could be seeing the the high $12's, needs new sneakers but maybe even the low low $13's depending on the dealer ...
Good luck,
Terry.
If it's clean, no road rage, deep sneakers, no paint fade or work, service is all there and looking sharp .. then trade side you should be seeing the mid to high $5's, depending on the dealer ... the color and the miles might hold this one back ..

Good luck with the Explorer - when you're ready for a Dodge truck, lemme know (no, you can't have mine) LOL

I help where I can.:-)
Still in very good mechanical condition, but only fair physical cond. Front bumper is bashed, rear bumper is scraped on both sides; also needs new tires.
Kelly says $1,750; NADA a little higher. I'd be happy w/ $1,500.
Can I expect this?
The miles are way tall and the car looks like it was at the crash derby, unless you have 100% of all maintenance and service records, you might see $500.
In Some States the new owner would not even be able to get the car registered as it would not pass inspection with front bumper damage.
Picked the Explorer up tonight, its nice, real nice. Lots of power and averaged 19 mpg on the way home, not bad for a V8 AWD....MUCH better than the 12 mpg that my 454 average. Plus the transmission on the 454 had decided in the past week that slipping and not downshifting was more fun than behaving.
I figure that Explorer only has 41k on it....not bad for a 97, should last a while. Paid $11,551 OTD for it. Got $5500 for my truck which my soon to be ex didn't think for a second was going to make it to Texas. So, ended up with a $6051 difference.....not bad, gets me a nicer vehicle with less miles and I don't have to buy another car when I get to Texas.
Now.....I must stay AWAY from the car lots, shouldn't be too hard in Texas, I'll be too afraid to drive anywhere.

Trade side $15K give or take depending on the dealers need for one and the exact condition when they check it out.
But I'm happy that you got a more comfortable vehicle .. be safe, drive slow and don't be eating piazza lasagna while driving, thats why God made rest stops ..

If it needs tires, a little this and that, then trade side you should be seeing the ultra high $20ish, low low $21ish figure -maybe- ..
Down the road, theres a little pop stand, turn right, go 5 miles and thats Retail Rd .. with an super detail, service records on the seat, new sneakers and a great 5 liner Ad .. $23,9 in the paper and $22,5/$23,5 sends it off to that new garage in the sky ...
Terry.
I was definitely ready to get out of the car and next time, it'll hopefully be in a 4-door truck.
It's a 00 with 40k, it's a 4x4 SLT+, miles are a little on the tall side, (color ..? - 3rd seat?) we got the leather, high end Infiniti sound ... if it's a clean one, deep with the round things, no re-paints, no I tried Mt Everest and the bottom is pounded out .. trade side, in and around the high $13's, maybe even the low low $14's if it's a real clean one and needs -0- and it's not that darn bold, bright Cobalt no-sale blue color ..
Good luck and let me know ...

Got a referral over on the Legacy/Outback board for you. I see you're pretty popular over here!
Anyway, I'm considering purchasing an '01 base Outback wagon:
- 32K miles.
- One owner, dealer trade-in, clean history.
- Single CD player.
- Security system.
- Still on manufacturer warranties.
- Execptional condition, can't find any dings, scratches, or mechanical problems.
- Original asking price was $17,900, we're down about $2K from there with my old tired trade-in.
These cars are pretty popular in my area (upstate NY), and we're having trouble haggling the dealers down much from the asking prices, even on cars with many more miles that don't look as clean. Middle of summer is supposed to be a slow time for car dealers, isn't it?
Do you think we're in the ball park here? There aren't a lot of clean 2-3 year old used Outbacks for sale around here, and they have been moving off the lots consistently since we started looking in early spring. I'm just not sure if waiting for more trade-ins to arrive later in the summer would be productive. I'd appreciate any insight you may have.
Woke up this morning and looked at the Explorer.....it has a flat tire......LOL, no biggie, probably happened last night with all the darn gravel around here on the highway.
Gonna be going out in style, the Explorer is soooo much nicer to drive than that big darn Chevy.
Terry, I will stay away from the car lots, I promise!! Well, for the most part, do have a couple very dear friends who are car salesman, have to say goodbye to them.
It was a great feeling driving off last night in the Explorer knowing I have equity in it and am not buried in it. The finance guy didn't know what to do with the title to the Chevy I traded in, he said he rarely sees a paid off trade.
'98 Accord LX Auto w/ only 38K miles, excellent shape - is $9,900 a reasonable price to ask for Philadelphia, PA? Please advise!
Thank you!
pretty quiet here but wanted your advice
2000 gs4 loaded xcept nav (nak, lex chromes, hid's,spoiler, htd seats, etc.) in crytal white ext(has a pearlized look but not white diamond)w/tan int - perfect shape, previous owner local and car traceable to orig sold by local lex dlr
33,400 miles (new tires, but needs 30k service, brakes supposedly fine but i'm guessing if they haven't been done then maybe will need front b's by 40k mi?)
still has factory warranty until 3-31-04
traded in by owner on a new escalade for his wife (gs4 was 'her car')
caddy dlr asking $29,900 - supposed best price is $28,900 - this is about $750 over kbb and edmunds trade-in value based on miles, euipment and excellent condition which this car is - body, ext int are immaculate, all svc records traceable thru local lexusa dlr (has always been local car)whaddaya think?
(ps - also considering 99 sc4, white diamond/tan, nak w/ 60k mi 1owner mint with EVERY lex svc, new tires, perfect from local lex dlr asking 27,900, best bottom $ price is $25,500)
Oooh, I don't think I would let this one get away .. almost a little too cheap, check the history, Nav .? who cares ... if all is well, grab it - we got warranty, HID, bun warmers, new sneakers, spoiler, right color, right sounds, right wheels, low miles, right price.
I have seen them loaded up like yours, do as high as $27 at the block .. so, unless it's been smacked, hasn't seen an oil change since the first 2000 miles or it's been used as Scarefaces personal hit vehicle, then I would be there - hit them at $28/$28,5 and see what happens, but don't lose it ...
The 99, I have no fear at 60k -IF- the service is correct, but thats a little stiff in price .. depending on where you live, I don't think the dealer has much more than $20,0ish in it with a CPO .. $23ish, thats fine .. $25,500 - pass ...
Good luck, let me know ...
Terry.
Nope no slider. It was a $1200 option at the time, that we didn't use, and would just be a waste. Because of that we factory ordered it, and did the European Delivery..Took delivery at the Gothenberg factory in Sweden- Very cool. But anyway, I think that I'll be holding onto this one until the end of the lease, because lease end buyout is about $22.5k, and I still have about 6 more months of payments.
Thanks again,
AS
Terry
Just on that alone, I'm not getting any warm and fuzzy feelin' on this one, at all .. stiff miles, busted front end, mortar fire on the transom, needs new round things .. I dunno, a ghee whiz ... ?
Terry.
I gotta figure the dealer has in and around the high $14's in it, then with a this and a that they are probably coming too the table at $15ish .. see if you can buy it at $17, then deduct the trade ..
Good luck ...
Terry.
Terry.
Appreciate your input. I've got the dealer down under $16K with my nearly worthless (sub $500) trade-in so I'm feeling pretty good about it, especially after hearing your take on things.
Most dealers around here are asking high $17's, sometimes more for a similar car, and aren't taking offers below $16K seriously. Lots of them are auction cars from down south according to carfax, but high miles and a lot worse for wear than this one. You'd think the local cars would look worse given the salt baths they take all winter.
Since the car was bought/serviced/traded here, the dealer offered to pull it's service history for me too. Think I'll try to reel it in... thanks a lot for your help!
Salt ..? The next time you are at the Miami/Tampa/Orlando Airport, drag your finger over any standing vehicle .. thats salt, we live in a "aquarium" of salt ...
Terry.
-Mathias,
who's ogling a '98 base 5sp OB with 144k miles on it and is afraid to hear what THAT thing is worth.
I need a play car...
BTW -- It's an OK thang -- not GA. Plenty of here in the midwest, esp. in the eastern part of the state.
Re my Honda -- is it hopeless? Front bumper isn't too bad -- it's purely cosmetic damage.
What can I expect to get in a trade?
I am looking at a 00 Pontiac Grand Am and a 00 Chevy Impala. Any advice ?
Will probably trade for a 2003 Accord EX-V6. Thanks
It's silver in color, 32k, clean, gray cloth interior, auto, air, power windows, locks, cruise, mirrors, CD stereo, fact security with keyless. It has 4 brand new tires, just had the service done about a month ago, no hit's, it's clean inside and out, actually it's pretty sharp.
He was at the Ford store looking at a new Ford Quad cab something or another and they told him $6,500 on a trade, he almost fell over, he was hoping for $8,500 on a trade, is this a real number for him? I must say he does baby that Nissan, books call for a lot more, what say you?
As always, thank you thank you thank you.
M.
