It's a '99 CDX, All the toys, has a few parkinlot kisses, missing the rear bumper, 117 K miles, I'm the fourty second owner, title says rebuilt, flood damage, Salvaged and discarded. Since I've owned it, I've only used it to drive between keno and blackjack tables on the boardwalk.

Location: Atlantic City
Color: That really pretty dark green.

I know this car is choice, had a dealer offer me 9K on a trade for a left over Aztek. I stormed out, what kind of fool does he take me for?

Hi, I have a 2001 Deville DTS, white exterior and natural leather interior (light gray with green tone). About 27000 mile. The only option in the car is chorme wheel and some additional wood on the dash board. The car is in pretty decent shape with 2 small ding on the door. I am in Tucson, AZ. What kind of trade in value should I expect? thanks.

1. 1992 LX sedan, auto, 206,000 miles, some rust in the rear wheel wells. Dealer wants to give me $1,000.

2. 1993 SE sedan, auto, 124,500 miles, no rust, no cracks in the leather. Dealer wants to give me $3100.

Do these sound fair. I'm in the process of trading in for a new 04 Civic EX for ~$300 over invoice.

The $1K on the 1992 is a stretch given the miles and body condition. You would be hard pressed to get much more than $1K at retail selling it yourself.
$3100 on the 93 is dead on the money for trade in dollars given the miles. They must have a ready market for the car because the retail even if in really nice condition is around ~$4K.

         You want to get to as many folks as possible .. always price your vehicle less then the dealer, Never over price and when they call "are you negotiable" - yep, it's for sale that's why the ad is in the paper, come see it.!

The word "FIRM" is the kiss of death, always remember, there's always gonna be a nicer vehicle than yours (no matter what you think) .. park your Ego at the door when you sell it yourself and don't get your feelings hurt .. it's easier to negotiate from $6,900 to $6,000 than to have your vehicle in the paper for $7,900 and negotiate down from there, besides you will get more response ..... Also Mathias (steine13) has done a Real Nice job in the do's and the dont's of it all, and if you scroll up a little you can find it.

We gots to know where you're at, that makes a difference.
And you gots to know that there is no such thing as a 110k car in "good" condition. Not the way the industry uses those words.

....... Ok, it's a 01, it's a EX V6, 39k, we got the stuff, new sneakers, good color and we live in Steelers territory ... and he's asking $18,9.

Miles are Semi tall for the year (was this a trade.? - certified.?) .. if not, he has probably the $14's in it, add a this and a that, pack, detail, service and it should be coming to the table around the $15ish zipcode .. I betcha a figure in the mid to high $17's would send it off to a place far far away ...

            Your close, depending on the dealer, you should be seeing in and around the mid to high $4's, if it's a real nice one, it might scroll up to the low low low low $5's .. did I say low .?

These are pretty nice drivers .. the color is definatly right for the area (slider.?) miles are ok, we have the chromee's .. a little scrape here or there is not a biggie, running the mirrors down the side of a cliff is no help, so it should look and drive like newish ... trade side, "in and around" that $23,0 figure ...

yeah, he's pretty well buried from what he tells me. I have a feeling that he isn't as buried as he thinks... He's been paying like 500/mo for the last 2 years on a 60mo note @ 11.9%. By my calculations, he should owe like ~13k which is much more reasonable than 17.

Anyway, he want's out(got a '53 dually almost running) and I'll let ya know what he gets for it. trying to steer him clear of any domestics due to the depreciation.

about 450, so calculated out, probably about 16,2 left in payments minus the 1200(24x50) he already has paid extra, 15k. Of which all is not principal alone, so I'm reasonably figuring that he owes about 13-14k or so.

Well, you can get a _loaded_ 2003 GLX (auto, 6 disk changer, traction control) for $29k without even breathing hard from Carsdirect, so exactly what you have matters. Big difference between a W8 and a GL.

Here's the situation.

My wife and I currently have a 2000 Volvo V40. Nice car (nothing great), not worth the money we paid, and definitely too small. Our family is expanding, so we are looking for something bigger. I have always bought (actually leased) new, but I think I need to save some coin and buy used.

So, here are the parameters:
* Interested in a SUV or station wagon, not totally against a mini-van.
* Looking to spend no more than $22k. Less is even better!
* Needs to be reliable. Or, if stuff breaks, needs to be reasonable to fix.
* Needs to have reasonable routine maintenance costs.
* Would like it to be in warranty for a small period of time while I own.
* Needs to have 4 doors.
* I live in sunny FL, so 4 wheel drive, AWD, etc. not important.

Any suggestions?!?!?!?

I am thinking of one SUV in particular, but want to hear your feedback before offering up.

I'd start looking at Subaru Legacies and certified pre-owned Volvo V70s and Saab 9-5 wagons. The 9-5 in particular is a great used value, very spacious, and a blast to drive. The Sube will probably be the most trouble-free, and the Volvo...well, it's a Volvo. Your S40's a rebadged Mitsubishi. :-)

My first choice in this same situation was a very slightly used Mazda MPV. A fully loaded one will still be below your pricepoint and have very very low miles.

Unfortunately, my wife found her way in a new Pilot and blew our budget right out the door, but that's another story altogether.

I stumbled upon a car not on my radar screen, but may want to take the plunge on an oddball. So, what says the great sage:

2002 Chrysler Sebring convertible. Black, black top, gray leather. GTC (sport?) model, with all power (including drivers seat). CD player, alloys. Super clean, like new.

15,000 miles, and, (insert drumroll here): It's a 5 SPEED! Yes, a handshaker Chrysler convert.

I didn't even know they made them (seems like dealers don't either) but it makes this a real nice car (shockingly so).

In NJ, at a small private lot with a top notch reputation. It feels like summer, but I assume winter really will arrive soon.

Needless to say, I'm confused, so please help.

           Dealer might have the $13's in it, add the service, a detail, add a this and a that, some naked pictures, probably comes to the table around the the mid to high $14's ... $16,5/$17,0 should be about all of it ... at the first hint of snow, he will have that thing at the auction so fast it will look like the Space Shuttle launch from the Kennedy Space center .... oh, did I mention it was a handshaker . ...... ;-)

16.5 - 17K seemed about right to me, so I must be learning something from you. I actually only drove it because of the 5 speed, and was shocked by how nice it drove/rode/handled. It felt more like a European car in some ways.

I may wait for a cold snap and see what happens, although the dealer was talking about floating it on Ebay. I will feel him out a bit about the price, but don't expect much movement for now.

Of course, I'm still not sure a convert with those big honking doors will work well with 2 smaller kids (my wifes van will take a beating in the garage), so I may go back to looking at sedans instead.

Someday I will trip over a real odd ball orphan that will follow me home. I still remember seeing a VOlvo 242GT at the NY auto show (4 speed +OD, great seats). Must have been late 70s. Wonder if they are still around?

I would also snap up a clean pre-'74 Gremlin X 304/4 speed if it came my way.

Reliving my teenage childhood here (aka the "era of the bombers"). ALthough the Gremlin X I had was a 6 cyl (4.2 IIRC) w/a 3 speed on the floor.

Actually not bad looking with the "mag" wheels and stripes, even had the 3 spoke sports steering wheel (leather grip, metal spokes with drilled holes).
