An update . . .history - in dallas, 35K, auto, roof, leather, etc. in great shape, Silver/black, new tires. They were asking $14,900 which you (and I) thought was a good price.
Took it out for a drive and to the local Saab dealer for an inspection. They said great shape, everthing works, all maint has been done, etc. . .
I go back to the seller (small Euro lot) and they say how about $14,400. I say great and drive it home. . .
Thanks
Adam
What the hell, I could probably sell it in the spring for what I paid for it anyway, so what's to lose?
Also, I apologize early to everyone in NJ. I probably just guaranteed a cold wet winter. I really need a three car garage.

Did someone forget their reading glasses today ..?
Terry
Good job.! .. yep, you could sell it come spring and "maybe" even make a little cake .. Congrats, great little cars !!
Hows that go again, Zoom zoom zoom zoom ..
Terry.
I'm so excited by new wheels, I want to replace the rest of the fleet, but I don't think the budget will allow that, but I may look for a 4 seat toy of some kind to replace my Maxima anyway...

stickguy.....What is it that Terry always says to me?? Stay away from the car lots!!!!
We have 3 vehicles and its a struggle to know which to drive.
Terry, I have a standing offer of $3200 on the Chevy from a car lot (same guy who bought my Escort) and another guy interested in it at $5k (if I'll take some payments).
Keeping it is sounding better all the time.....it worked today and made $200 for us, hmmm, only costs $233 for 6 months worth of insurance. Course its begging for another $500 worth of repair work too.
What do you think about Carmax? Terry, what do you see them doing at the auctions that you visit?
Love to know your opine!

Good condition (in/out), no visible dings or scratches

Dealer is asking $35K for it.
Thanks
The body work looked perfect then and now (but there are chips from other cars on the doors now). The interior work looked very good then. Now, if you look carefully, you can see that the dash is lifting up 1/4in just under both A pillars. I think this is due to sun and Audi quality, not the crash. All instruments work perfectly.
I hope this is enough info but do ask if you need more! Thanks in advance.

I've read on this forum that there are professional appraisers who could appraise a vehicle for $200-300. That would surely be cheaper than a flight there to check it out.
Can anyone direct me to where I could find an appraiser? I've started looking on the internet but haven't had much luck. Thanks a lot. Paul
Thanks for sharing your wisdom...
Suka
ps. yes I've been looking for awhile now. you keep giving me good advice so I keep coming back. ;-)
Yes. And don't forget our sales people, our F&I people, our fleet people, the guy who cleans the floors, the sales manager..... oh, wait....you probably meant "U.S. armed forces service people" not automotive service people!!!
I think the "LS" has the 3.8 liter engine.. in any case, that's the one to buy, prolly the best engine the General has right now.
As far as price; this car can probably bought for $20k new anywhere between Lansing and Cleveland. So at $13,9 he's not doing you any favors.
My guess -- and I'm not a pro -- is that $10 or so is all the money on this one. For bread-and-butter cars like this one, with dead-on average miles, I'd try Edmunds Private-Party value and not a whole lot more. Deduct for new tires.
For whatever it's worth, locally there's an '02 with 65k miles, no equipmnt specified, that's been going begging at $8 for weeks...
Happy Thanksgiving - Mathias
Also we have some company over today and if they aren't talking about sports, it's about cars, so that means I have another question.
Our uncle is looking to trade his 02 Infiniti I30, it's black, grey leather, sunroof, bose, 20k, clean, serviced by the book, non smoker, he does take care of his cars, the dealer is thinking $15, what say you?
I hope I have all the info, because I will be stuck in the kitchen all day, so I won't have time to go to my room.
Have a great Holiday and thanks again!
M.
Now back to instruction my husband on how to get the turkey ready for the oven.....hehehe. I hurt my hand, so he gets to cook this year.
If it's an 02, $15 sounds low to me. Of course, I like Infiniti!

Terry, I've seen your name a lot in the different message boards and it sounds like you're the man!
I am ready to purchase a 2001.5 / 2002 Passat, but I'm very concerned about all the problems and recalls I have read about. I previously owned a 93 Honda civic and it ran like a champ. I bought it used and never had any major problems, so I expect RELIABILITY. Unfortunately that car was stolen last Friday, thus, I find myself in the market for a car.
I am looking for a change from the Honda style and like the new VW Passat design very much.
My question is this: Does the 2001.5 GLS have the same (or more) problems than those reported on the 2002, namely the coil / wheel well, etc?
I am looking to buy in the next week. Please help!
I appreciate your response, and you've kind of confirmed what I've been thinking.
I think I may end up waiting until 2004 and see what happens with the prices then. This car does have everything we want, but the price is at the top of our range and w. it needing new tires it just seems like too much right before the holidays.
Thanks for your time and have a nice Thanksgiving everyone!
It's a 2003 Corolla CE auto w/AC bought exactly a year ago with 17,000 kms.
Any educated guesses?
BTW, I am going to a dealer tomorrow and see what they say.
The Malibu is in every rental car fleet in the nation and is second only to the Cavalier to being the most "flooded" car in the market.
There's also no such thing as a car in "excellent" condition at 54K. Read the NADA preamble and you'll see that "excellent" means the car needs nothing to be retailed and warranted by a dealership.
When a vehicle is in an "overage" population, its value drops. Just like the Taurus, Focus, Grand Am, etc. Sorry.
Another factor is that you're trying to trade a Chevrolet product at a Toyota dealership - major mistake. Try CARMAX or a Chevrolet dealer for a trade offer, or sell it yourself - you'll do much better.
To clarify, dr didn't mean "trade" at a Chevy dealer, he meant "sell outright". At least a good way to get a bottom line offer -- also, the Chevy dealer may be able to sell it as CPO and it might appeal to him.
Either way, these ain't worth much... sorry. -m
I am getting ready to purchase a new 2004 Lexus Rx330 AWD with the Navigation System/Mark Levinson Audio Package for one of my drivers. I was quoted $42k for a vehicle that included the towing package, the 18" Aluminum alloy and the heated seats. I think I got a good price on the car. I am in the Chicagoland area.
The driver is bulking at the towing package and the wheels as he does not think that they are necessary. My argument is that when you buy a luxury vehicle on the used market, buyers are looking for a loaded vehicle with all of the bells and whistles. And I am the one that is going to have to sell the beast at the end of the lease.
Two questions:
1) Am I right?
2) What should I be able to sell the car for 36 months from now at auction and retail assuming normal wear and tear and about 50k miles?
Terry, fire up your crystal ball!! (g) This is kind of a backwards question.
About the bells and whistles, its probably true that it will be easier to sell if its got all the "bells and whistles"... but, be careful with a tow package if you have no intentions to use it, as it may scare some people off.... its get people thinking how big is that trailer/boat you tow?

Thanks for your help!
What can I reasonably expect? Would I be better of waiting for the spring? New Mustang debuts in October 2004, will my value drop drastically then?
Blue ext, gray leather interior

owner states condition 8.5 out of 10.
He is asking $4500.
$3,200 from the dealer.? .. that means it's worth at least $4,5/$4,9 "asking" .. I would think that you could get that $4,5ish for it ...
Terry.
If it was $45ish and you paid $45, then you won't recover the money back ... stuff the Levinson, Navs, tow packs (if not used) are worth about 20cts on the dollar because of the leather, slider, bun warmers, in-dash cd's, now the back-up beep beep's are nice and the power door .. if you read some of the other posts on Edmunds everyone is going crazy over the Nav's on the Honda, BMW has had it for years and the buyers are bored with it, that's why they make it standard on the 7's .. but, like always say: Always buy and drive what you like.
I never try to guess the future value of vehicles, but the RX has been stronger than the Presidents decision to visit our troops in Baghdad (God bless him!) .. CLEAN 4wd 00 RX's with miles in the 25/35k range are doing around that $21ish figure in your area, and probably seeing "around" the $25ish figure on the retail side ..
I hope this helps ....
Terry

Wow, that's more than I needed to know .. gheeez, this should have been totaled, "crushed to the A pillar", that's not good news and I would bet the frame looks like a Snickers bar that been sittin' in the sun .. the dash is folding cuz' the vehicle was smacked so hard on the side.
I really can't say because I can't see it, a good guess would be it's worth in and around the low low low low $3's, maybe.! .. it all depends on the finish work, but I have a feeling we are talking about a $2 grand car.
Terry
My guess is that the frame is ok because I drive the car aggressively and I haven't noticed any difference in rigidity, alignment, etc. between before and after the crash. The dash is lifting symmetrically on both sides and this didn't happen until many years after the crash.
The quattro is still more fun to drive than anything out there that I know of for less than $30K--I love the handling and the power feels solid, even though the 0-60 time is worse than our Honda Pilot.
Yesterday I tried the RX-8 and the G35 coupe. The G car feels heavy and the brakes and acceleration just seem jerky, not smooth. It's fast but not so much fun. The RX-8 is a lot of fun to toss around but it's just too small inside and outside for me.
Maybe I should go try the current A4q again, but Audi quality does make me uncomfortable. Any opinions on the *current* quality of the A4 and the 3-series?
As for the darn Chevy, there's a guy interested in at $5k, but if he don't buy it we are going to keep it. I'm thinking about fixing it up, lifting it, putting big tires on it, and driving it myself. I HATE that Dodge, what a booger to drive, of course hubby loves the fact that I hate it.
The guy at the car lot did offer to buy my Explorer, lol. I said thanks but no thanks. Ok he didn't offer, he begged me to sell it to him, lol, said he can't find nice ones like mine.
Would love your input on the following:
2002 WRX Sedan, silver - 5 spd, one owner, clean history, current dealer picked up at auction, 75,000 miles, (i know car history because i talked to original owner, highway miles from commute to work. Mobil 1 synth oil changes)
AND
2002 WRX wagon silver -Automatic ;( - had about 3K damage to driver side, all cosmetic, has new door skin and new fender, I'm pretty good, but not an expert, and I can tell it had body work (slight ripples in doors) - 15,000 miles
THANKS!
Jim
It's an 01 and a I30T, not a I35, not a 02.
Off to my room, besides I could use the rest.
Lost in limbo, but Thanks!

No paintwork, tires are brand new, no french fry invasions, although his kid has basically grown up in the back seat since it was bought new. (The kid is now 14).
It is in very good shape for its age, and surprising shape for the miles. Runs very well, and no salt, since it started life in LA and has spent the last 8 years in Savannah, Georgia
My friend, the owner, has it listed by owner, but wants to know if his number is out of line for this rig. What say the master?
