    2 Why?
  • butchbr73butchbr73 Member Posts: 325
shees... relax a bit, have some fun. Terry has a great sense of humor, just read back a few thousand, well, 10,000 posts and you'll get the picture, nothing against you. Just b/c he can't hit the broadside of a barn with a golf ball doesn't mean you have to jump him...

    >>> am not mad or upset at you, I just wish people would only answer if the may know the answer. Not because they are board.<<<

hah, kinda funny.... I think Terry knows more than anyone here w/ respect to values of vehicles.

As for why TMV went up, well, your guess is as good as mine, Terry's or your neighbors. as said before, its just a guide, intended to be used as a guide, thats it. Put the same thing in next week, it may say its $2,000 less than today. A month from now, it may be worth $500 more, who knows what these guys think or where they get their info or how they compute the value..... and not to help, values of cars are kinda a wierd science, you know? depends on the weather, barometric pressure, angle of the moon vs. the hill I'm climbing w/ respect to which degree i'm heading, you get the picture....

It doesn't sound like you are too familiar with this board, but what great service Terry provides here (free and on his own time, I may add) is he'll give you the real world value of your car... take it as you may, but he is 99% dead-on..
  • jratcliffejratcliffe Member Posts: 233
Wow, you're way way out of line. If you had read a few posts here, you'd realize:

    a) Terry (rroyce10) is a tremendous resource, who helps a lot of folks for free
    b) Terry has a sense of humor

Your comments about him being a "dummy" and saying that you don't consider it possible that he "may know the answer" reflect poorly on you, not on him. If you really want to know what your car is worth in the real world (not in the online guides), Terry's a great resource. If you want to ignore and/or insult him, then I suggest you take the car to a few dealers (or even better, Carmax), and get a quote.

I have a 2001 chevrolet cavalier that has 2400$ in damages from an accident. How would i go about getting a new car, I HATE this car. The payments are outrages!! What happens when you still owe money and the car is damaged? How would one go sbout trading this in? I don't even care if i get anything just want out of this mess!!
  • butchbr73butchbr73 Member Posts: 325
ok, hold the horses.. lets start over. You have a car, a 2001 Cavalier. And you have a lien on it. Ok, good so far. Now, we have a little damage to it, about $2,400. I assume its insured, correct, because you still have a lien?

Now, please be a bit more specific on the car - ie - condition, mileage, color, where it lives, more details on the damage, options, etc... Please be detailed, the more accurate you are, the more accurate answer you'll receive. We'll see if we can't pin down what the car is worth, we'll see what you owe, then you'll have a few options.

to trade a car, easy, step 1- drive to dealership. step 2- get out and talk to salesperson. Step 3 - ahh, you get the picture.

I'm with you lancerfixer, NE b&r.

All I can say is thank goodness Carolina won yesterday so the Pats finally get a playoff game against a team they hadn't already beat this season (i.e. Rams, Colts, Eagles).

    Go Pats!!!

If you will re-read my post (#16,693), your question is answered and the answer is explained without humor.

I am not yet to Terry's level of comedic ability, but I'm working on it.

You probably don't know this, but Terry has been on here at 5 am getting accurate to the dollar trade evaluation opinions on his own time, and it isn't like he gets paid to help folks.

Take a deep breath, relax, etc.

OK, I like Blue and Green, so are all shades of these colors not selling and everyone MUST buy biege, like for housing?

If so, people have no taste anymore, :P

Why do not you sell your car at a CARMAX, and then buy desired vehicle out of state.
  • juliec2juliec2 Member Posts: 25
Terry: You are more humorous than Click and Clack! I am getting ready to sell my my bright red A4 01 avant (loaded and pristine condition). It has 38k miles and warranty runs out in Nov. Will I get more if I sell it before the warranty runs out or doesn't it matter? What should I ask for it? I am going to buy either an 01 A6 wagon or a 04 Pacifica any thoughts?

....... CT, right.? .. Based on what your telling me, it's a pretty nice SE, auto(?), right color, slider, spoiler, we have the wing and the miles are Extremely low .. miles make a HUGE difference, but they also have to be "clean" low miles ..

I just looked at a 31k 01 ES300 and without looking at the Vin#, I couldn't tell if it was a 01 or 98, this thing looked like it just got back from the gang wars in Compton or was in the Alligator pits in the Everglades ... if yours is a nice one, deep rubber, been serviced, no AK47 hit's .. then trade side, in and around the ultra high $3's, maybe the low $4's depending on the dealer ...

Me personally, this is a perfect vehicle for a trip down Retail RD .. super detail, service records duct taped to the windshield, great 5 liner ad, $6,900 *asking* and cut that bad boy lose at the first $5,5/$6,5, this shouldn't last long, hard to get and hard to find if it's a Clean one ....

Let me know how it goes ...

Well ... my girlfriend is going to trade her 1998 Suzuki Esteem for a '04 Corolla, and would like to get an idea of the value ...

    Details:

    1998 Suzuki Esteem GL,
    4-sp Automatic
    Red
    Air Cond (works)
    PS/PB
    Stereo
Standard options for the GL, but ...
Not much else ... (it only cost $9995 new)
    10K into some decent Yokohama's.
    SF Bay Area

    65,000 Miles

Condition: I would say fair ... some scratches and door dings ... but no large dents or anything. Paint is good considering it has been stored outside for a long time.

Any ideas on what we could get for a trade on a 2004 Corolla CE?

Thanks guys for this service ... I am realy in the dark on this one.

Frankly I kind of liked the car, it got great MPG, and was cheap to maintain, but getting the parts has been a real problem ... as they are often a one week back order :-(

    .... >>Just b/c he can't hit the broadside of a barn with a golf bal<<..

How is that golf swing coming? Had much practice lately? little chilly here, so no practice in awhile....

...... He's trying to trade you for a $27 difference, right.?

The "03's with 4/6k with the Bozo sound, slider, leather and the 6-speed's, are doing in and around that $29/$30ish range at the auctions (about $35 sticker) so they are doing some pretty strong Rubles ..

That being said, "I would think" that you could get $1,5/$2,000 off maybe, that's cuz' it's January (winter) another 6 weeks they should get all the monies .. ya know, "maybe" trade for a $25/$26 difference, the base models they will give away ... check around, you have a trade that Everyone wants.

Good luck, let me know ..

                           Terry.

I try to play twice a week, I take barn lessons once a week, it was cool last week, in the 60's in the days, 45ish at night, kinda nice actually, you don't feel like your sucking on the back of a exhaust pipe .. I never spend anytime looking for balls, that's why I take 200 out with me .l.o.l..

Its only -22, dang heatwave. They are calling for ABOVE zero tomorrow. Time to break out the bikini.

On another note, we had a very eventful morning. Seems one 2004 Explorer was throwing a hissy, first no heat at all, then the dang truck overheated, finally got to the tire place and got the new winter tires. Truck has an appt at the Ford dealer on Wednesday to have the cooling system checked. Such fun at -55.

And no, I'm not going to trade it in yet. ;-)
  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
...the laws of automotive physics break down at 55 below, so one can hardly fault the Ford Motor Company for this one...
  • mrsmaddmaxxmrsmaddmaxx Member Posts: 11
Look! I did not call Terry a dummy, I was saying he made me feel like a dummy.(I do not need you rude (SHE)"Must be a dummy!" comments )GET IT RIGHT. You have to understand, I do not know Terry from a stranger in NY. Also he did not answer my question he was in a round about way saying if you believe that I have an ocean front property in AZ. I was joking back at him and no one seemed to notice that. Maybe it was because you do not know me. I am not hear to fight, I was Honestly was wondering why was there a diff? I also check KBB and others. Please except my apologies if you feel I was harsh on your online friend. I am new as of 1/18/04. Sorry! How was I to know.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Never said I blamed anyone, things happen at -55. I'm perfectly happy with the truck, it was just a COLD morning. The Ford dealer will flush the system and get the air out, that's all the problem is. No biggie. Oh and this wasn't the first time its done it, its been doing this for the past week, just today was the worst. Anyway, I'm not upset, things happen.

    terry,
regarding barns, etc.. one time i was playing golf near a farm (with a barn), near used car lot(don't know if aka ever bought something there).
someone tee'd their ball up, and before he took a swing, we saw a dog headed toward the tee off area, so in jest i said 'watch out for that ball eating dog'. guess what the dog did? it absofrigginlutely took off with the ball!
at least noone spoke about my horrible round of golf after that.

Are 2004's supposed to do that ? I mean the Exploder (err Explorer) is brand new and all, right ??? Sorry about the weather. Live in San Diego and can only *sympathize* with many of you out there in the frigid weather. Why do you all prefer the cold anyways ?

-20F is warm for ya, eh !!! I guess only in mooseland !

And mrsmaddmaxx.. just relax.... read back, say 10000 posts and you'll get it. I certainly didnt get your joke at all. Maybe I am dumb too, lol !
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
explorerx4......probably did, is that the one with the tree and the bullseye? hehehe

bluestar1......stuff happens when its cold, whether it be a new or 10 years old. Its kind of a Ford thing, we've owned 3 6-cyl Ford's and they have all done the same thing. We just laugh and say its a Ford thing. We know what's wrong and it will get resolved on Wednesday.

Please say you have receipt for Timing belt service around 60K.

What you have is a basic small 4 door sedan with Automatic. It does not have the following like a Civic. It also is the old style, pre-1999.

65K Automatic, deep in rubber, fair looking condition. California can be a strange place, but around here $1500 is all the money on trade for that beer can on wheels.
  • jratcliffejratcliffe Member Posts: 233
Wait, your car OVERHEATED when it was 55 BELOW? Wow, I'm trying to visualize that. I wouldn't think you'd even _need_ a radiator at that temperature - the ambient air leaking into the engine compartment should have kept it cool. Jeez, what a climate.

RE: '97 Altima estimate. I bought my 97.5 GXE "Limited Edition" silver for $7500 at a dealer last month. It is clean, had 48k miles, and looks like it is 1999 on the calander. I prob'ly could have held out for $6900, but I got a good trade price.

You answered a question was afraid to ask, too. If "hard to get, hard to find", I'm happy!

Believe it or not, vehicles do tend to be more prone to overheating at cold temps. Just one of the things that makes us go.....hmmmmmmm.

about what I expected ... I told her not to buy it :-) The best thing is that I could work on it myself ... it was about as simple as a (somewhat) modern car gets. Funny thing is that it has been much more reliable than my Audi I owned ahwile back... at 1/3 the cost.
  • tomcat630tomcat630 Member Posts: 854

Why would it be normal for a car to overheat in <minus> 55 degree weather? And why is it a "Ford thing"? I just knew that your new Ford would be totally trouble free!

Umm, sorry about that - I've offended myself for not giving you all the info...

    2WD for me.

So, I am asking about auction prices for 2003 Murano SL's with the Premium Package (but no DVD), with 2WD, and about 12-15k in miles.

    Thanks Much.

    ....... I think that's Frick and Frack ...

To answer your question first, as with a Bimmer, a warranty is very valuable on an Audi .. cost of repair can pound that piggy bank to pieces.

The miles are semi-ok, the color is great but not a door-buster, we have the slider, we have "almost" leather seats, if it's nice, clean, deep rubber, no touch ups, service was yesterday .. then trade side, in and around the $15's ..

Which one is the better vehicle ..? .. you need to drive them, and that's not around the block .. get with the dealer and cough up some ID, and drive both for an hour or so with No salesman, your streets, your mailboxes, you get the idea .. these are 2 separate vehicles doing 2 separate things.

Good luck and let me know ..

                           Terry.

still having a hard time visualizing how your Ford, well, any car, can overheat with an ambiant temp of -55 ????

i bet your old explorer never left you stranded like this? l.o.l.....
  • kdigkdig Member Posts: 3
Terry or anyone that may know.

I am in the market for a 2003 TL type s. Locally the dealers are marking their cars 28-29k. Which is more than the 24-26k I feel the car is worth. Am I living in a dream world? Should I just get an 02 for around 21-22k.

    Thanks in advance
  • driftracerdriftracer Member Posts: 2,448
the engine block and t-stat housing get so cold, the t-stat won't move and the engine overheats.

Experience from weeks of 30-40 below in Wyoming. -47 on Dec 17, 1993.

Predicted a HIGH of -34 degrees in Fairbanks!

    Wow!
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
2 ABOVE zero this morning, that's 57 degrees higher than yesterday morning.

Drift, thanks, I couldn't explain it, but its something like that, the dealer said it sounds like air in the system.

Mark, its no biggie, I expect little things with a new vehicle. I still consider it trouble free, this is nothing that's its fault or Ford's fault.

butch, my old explorer did much worse, from no restart after fueling up to the heater being broken for 6 months.

Ok, now back to our regularly scheduled programming. I swear I'm going to start my own thread.......What in the world is akangl's weather today?

Just for reference, Three weeks ago I paid $26250 for a silver 2003 TL type S with navigation with 12,700 miles. I paid a little more than I had to, but I really wanted the car and the ones with nav units can be hard to find around here. I live just north of NYC. Also, one of the nearby dealers is advertising a 2003 silver type s no navigation with 6,200 miles for 24,995. He was originally asking 27,900, and he's had it 60 days in inventory. He is also advertising 2 2003 base TL "retired service loaners with 14000 miles for 23995. Just as a guide, but it will probably depend on how many dealers are near you. We have 5 or 6 within 50 miles, so there is lots of competition.

Preface: I live in the lower 48s where we are MUCH warmer. However, in this part of ND and MN (where we only get down to -30), vehicle overheating in cold temperatures often happens because the antifreeze is inadequate for the temperature and either gels or allows the water in the cooling system to freeze. The result is a blocked cooling system that overheats the engine.

At least, that is what I told my dad happened to my 1970 Maverick.

Thanks for the response. I see all of the high numbers on the window and feel bad asking for the car at 23-25k range.

For me there are only two acura dealers in the state. I have been driving down to Chicago as they seem to wheel and deal a bit more there.

From what you said then the 25k for an 03 TL-Type S with no nav is not that crazy of an offer
  • porknbeansporknbeans Member Posts: 465
If you can give Terry a little more info on the TL's that you are looking for he could probably get you a more accurate number. Can you give location in Wisconsin, options (if any), mileage, color, condition of cars (probably excellent) and anything else that you can think of. The more info the better his response.

take a quick look back at the following explanation from Terry:

    rroyce10 Jan 14, 2004 9:09pm

kinda paints a picture of what you are seeing at dealers, they can ask what they want, but what they will sell the car for, you don't know till you sit down with 'em... have you talked to any of those dealers? or just looked at the prices. you never know..!.!.!
