I'm sure some of its high mileage is because it has been our only vehicle for the past month. Sure glad I didn't keep that 97, couldn't have trusted it as much as I do this one.
On the bright side, we are moving closer to town, so hopefully after that the miles slow down some.
BTW, my mom has 196k on her 96 Cavalier and still drives it 130 miles/day.
I don't know much about this car, except that my mom wants is considering buying it and I'm not in love with it (I'd like a $20k used car to have a warranty, call me crazy). Stats:
99 Infiniti Q45 Touring white/tan leather 58.9k miles
what's this thing worth, if it's nice, good tires, service records, etc.? They're asking $19,900. Thanx!!!
I have a 1999 Subaru Outback Limited Sedan. It has 95,000 miles. The car is in good condition (worse than excellent but better than fair). Please let me know what you think I can realistically obtain as trade-in value.
Also, please let me know if you think that I should not trade this car in and save it as a second car for future. I would need to some repairs on it and I don't know that it is worthwhile to put more money into a 6 year car. Please tell me your opinion.
Just wondering what the real value of my trade in is. It is a 1999 Hyundai Sonata, V6, auto, cruise, 75K miles, GL package, it's in nice shape except I just had it checked out. I came back with a code for the crank sensor malfunction, and another code for torque converter failure.
Thanks for any insight. I'm just trying to see if it is worth fixing. I won't be dishonest if I don't fix the things when I try to trade it in.
Regarding AK's Explorer mileage, gotta realize Alask is a huge state!! She doesn't just drive to church on Sundays.
RE: "..it's a 2001 and most folks see it as a two year old car..." It is now March 1, 2004. Anyone who thinks 2001 was "two years ago" better wake up and look at the calander!!! :-))
'Tis true, church is 31 miles away, grocery store is 85 miles away, heck, the closes gas station is 26 miles.
Although I do agree I tend to drive more than average, that's a bad thing when buying new. I probably put on at least 35k/year. Will probably get worse with me working full time this summer, then going to college full time this fall.
"I would need to some repairs on it and I don't know that it is worthwhile to put more money into a 6 year car"
directly contradict each other.
With a 4 year old car with 100K miles, condition and current problems are the "make or break" between doing good on a private sale and selling it as a beater.
That "torque converter failure" is a transmission failure code. I've seen the same symptom on Sonatas before, and you're looking at a transmission replacement. Count on around $2,000 just for that, $200 for the crankshaft position sensor replacement.
Terry et al., what colors and options in a sedan are considered the best investments for future resale/trade purposes? I’m considering purchasing a new Camry LX, 4-cyl automatic, D.C. area. First choice Catalina Blue (medium metallic blue), second Stratospheric Mica (navy, non-metallic; does a non-metallic paint hold up better in terms of wear, etc.?) Which options are worth it for future value, such as sunroof; leather; 6-CD (vs single CD), premium sound? I’m wondering whether it is worth it to step up to XLE trim. However, there seems to be something of an LE surplus, therefore the best deals, and I could live with the LE. To be honest, I like the Avalon better, but I can't afford one new and (because I'm not knowledgeable) I don't feel confident in my ability to not make a mistake. Also, I think a 4-cyl car would be easier on gas. Thank you for the valuable service (and laughs) you provide. --Tuneful
Terry - parents are thinking of trading their 1998 Camry - LE, V6, has the side airbag option and 16" alloys (factory), ABS. All the other usual power options. All service done at dealer, has original tires, and they look about 50% there.
Metallic beige with beige cloth inside. 25,000 miles - the condition is good, but one deep scratch on the left rear wheel well.
What say you on a trade? - located in Upstate (Albany) New York. Thanks!
terry is asking, where do you live? values of cars can vary from region to region.... to give you an accurate read, he needs to know where the vehicle resides....
Terry-Thanks for all of your help. Finally got rid of the 2002 JGC LTD.. Most dealers wanted to give 19.5k to 20k, but thanks to my Carmax quote, they honored the 20.5k. Thanks again.
OK - Have ordered an '04 911 cab and need to sell my boxster S. The trade-in value was laughable but I see where they are coming from so I will sell (hopefully) privately. Only problem is I still owe a chunk of change on this car and can't pay it off after a recent diamond purchase - shhhh don't tell my girlfriend How do I sell privately if there is still a note on the vehicle and I simply can't sign over the title??
"How do I sell privately if there is still a note on the vehicle and I simply can't sign over the title??"
Borrow money elsewhere and pay off the car. If you're serious about selling -- and you better be, with a new 911 on order -- then you'll have to pay it off shortly no matter what. So do it now, get title in hand, and you'll have a much easier time dealing with a private individual.
....... There must be an ECHO ECho Echo echo ech ec e in here ....
It's a 01, it's a 4dr and it's a auto, color is good anywhere .. **(3. one small cigarrett burn at rear seat courtesy of my friend) hmm, what kind of cigarette ..?
If it doesn't have any repaints and the tires are deep, then trade side you should be seeing the high $5's, "maybe" "might" see the low low $6ish range ... $6,800 ..? maybe if it had 10/12k ..
let me know how it goes ..
Terry. ------------------------------------------------ Thanks Terry, the echo was traded for $6400 with 27600 miles. I just bought a 04 accord. They intially gave me $6000 for it but I asked 6400 and they did not hesitate and said "yes".
Hi again, and thanks in advance because here is another help request!!! I'm moving in on a 2000 Malibu LS (no leather, no slider), only 17000 miles, dark blue color, South Florida. I know from reading this board you like this car or at least it's a bargain as cars go. I'm ready to buy it because it's clean, just a matter of getting a fair price...your estimate to buy from dealership?
Ok, done deal on the 00 Malibu LS. Paid $8700 + TTL. It's actually green (not blue; hard to see it last night). It has some nice touches like CD/cassette, power seat, ABS, alloys, and the best thing is only 17k miles. How'd I do?
Terry - You were spot on for trade in value. Got 24k for it (you said high 23's maybe 24). Back in a Mazda Protege5, which is what I traded in on the Runner last year. The 5,000$ off the P5 offset all my negative equity and plus I didn't have to pay taxes again. My payment on this P5, which is loaded, is less than my 2002 which was a stripper. Happy to be zoomzooming again. Thanks for the advice.
It has 65,920 miles, it is an SE, is black with black leather, an automatic tranny, ABS, as well as all power options, power seats, alloys, sunroof, etc. I can give any other info i have, but its all listed on the site. They are asking 7990.00 and they specifically list the NADA value at around 9500.00. From my research here at at KBB, trade in was around about 6,000.00+, and dealer retail seems crazy high at like 10,500. I am actually willing to pay the asking price, but only if they are severly firm. I would prefer to at least get some off the asking price. What would be a good starting offer, and what would be a good purchase price for this car? It is located around Cleveland, OH.
....... I can't tell much from the pic, but the miles are low for the year, leather, slider, SE, Bozo sound, probably not a bad little driver if it checks out and has a good history ...
Dealer probably has the low $6's in it if he done any adds .. he's certainly not trying to hurt anyone at $7,900, I would think $7,5ish should get it bought ...
...... 115k, "L" coupe' .. If it's a nice one, that means no hacksaw interior, everything looks and works 100%, deep rubber, all the service records, no I bounced of the curb at Blimpys and had to have the side repainted .. trade side, in and around the $5ish figure ...
Me personally, right down Retail Rd .. marvelous detail, wonderful 5 liner ad in the biggest paper in your area, $7,900 *asking* and wave goodbye at the first $6,9/$7,5 ... remember, if it needs stuff start deducting or fixing, whichever comes first ............
........ Ooooh, the last of the Fat Daddys, lowish miles, great color, .. actually these are pretty nice drivers, well made, durable, reliable, run forever and in my own humble stupid opinion pretty sharp lookin', sure beats the new style .. the only holdback for you on this one "might" be the rwd in Chi-Town(?), they don't do much in 20 inches of snow going uphill ...
Dealer probably has the mid to high $15ish figure in it (no cpo?) so figure $16, you should see it for the high $17's, low $18's on the retail side -if- it's clean, yatty yatty yatty .............. ;-)

....... Good question .. Camry's are one of the few vehicles that you can buy that don't neccesarly need leather or the 18" Macro wheels to get a selling audience, they also don't need the V6 or the XLE to get a buyer .. what will usually sell a Camry is the power seat, cd, cruise and the power windows, locks, tilt, stuff like that ...
As a rule, I don't even buy the V6's because you sometimes don't get your $$ back, it has nothing to do with the engine, it just means most buyers "know" the 4 banger and have no fear at sale time ... as far as color, as long as it's not blazing red or black, or some of the new crazy yellow, purplish, neon blue, whacked out greens .. see, they are popular now, but in 2/3 years the market will run it's perverbial circle and you will be trying to trade a neon blue vehicle to a dealer with 12 of them sitting on his used car lot ... got it.?
I man thinking about getting a 2004 I35 while they are still out there. What can I expect for 2002 Honda Accord Ex V6 Silver, 35k in Minnesota. Good condition, but there are a few minor scratches here and there.

On the Tacoma...before you buy, be sure you are able to start it cold. Check the Tacoma problems board; on cold start, some recent Tacomas have exhibited a strange noise that has turned out to be bad engine bearings...I wouldn't bring it up, except that it happened to my dad's 2001 Tacoma 4 cyl. also. The service advisor at the dealer hinted that his was not the only one they'd seen with this problem.
(He ended up trading it for a 2004 Tacoma. I have no idea why.)

It's really not a problem depending on the lender, as all long as your getting over the pay-off and/or putting some cash to cover it .. call the lender, tell them what your doing and they will tell you what local branch to meet at with the new buyer .... they get the cash, he gets the title, simple ..
