It's a 00 with low low miles, we have the leather, we have the cold pack, slider, cd tunes, wheels, a few little scrapes here and there and we have all the books and records - everything was going your way until you mentioned that darn handshaker ... trade side, in and around the ultra high $8's low $9's, "might" "maybe" sneak towards the mid $9's, but I have a feeling the tires and the joystick will hold it back .......

Thanks Terry! As requested, I'm letting you know about the offers I got on my '00 VW Passat GLS 1.8T w/29.6k miles, etc...
When I was in for an oil change @ the local VW dealer last week, I had them look it over and make me an offer. I guess they found a little bit of damage to the under-carriage, nothing big but said it knocked their offer down a few hundred for a net of $8.5. I asked if they could come up a little higher and the guy said he thought he could get me a little more - but I didn't bother sending him back to his boss since I knew it was way too low for me to accept anyway. Last night I bought a new Honda S2000. They offered me $9.1 for the trade. So, basically, just what you estimated. You were "right on the money" (pun intended) I'm sorry to say - because I wished it had been higher.
Anyhow, I passed on the trade and will sell it myself. Any idea what I should be able to get in a private party sale? Once again, here are the particulars:

As for the insurance thing, I've done it before, but not with Ford Motor Credit, it was with GMAC. All I had to do was get a letter of permission and they didn't have a problem with it.
Probably the best thing you could do is clean it up with a great detail, drop some new rubber on it, create a great Ad and send it down Retail Rd .. have all the paper work ready to *disclose to the next buyer and start at $22,9 *asking* and let it go at the first $21/$22 figure - and don't forget to park the ego if you want to sell it ...

I didn't know you could get a Sienna for under list right now. Of the three vans you mentioned, I'd pick that first followed by the Nissan with its funky center-mount gauge pod, followed by the Chrysler way back in third place. Check out the Odyssey - it doesn't have all the niceties of the new Sienna like the wood-trim steering wheel, but you might like it.
I OWN a '02 Cav LS. During the warmer weather months, expect to get app. 30-32 mpg's. This is assuming at least 90% highway driving AND going no faster than 65-70 mph. The 2.2 has great low-end torque (for around town) but runs out-of-breath at speeds over 75 mph. My civic, on the other hand, is quite gutless (around town) but loves highway speeds--75plus mph.

I asked some days ago about a no-sale green 107k 99 Camry CE in decent shape w/ 5sp... asking $5,400, Terry said <=$4 wholesale... badda-bing, sold in less than a week.
Called a Lady about a 2000 Prizm, 50+k miles, 3sp auto, white, ex-rental, small dent in hood, good shape otherwise.... asking $6, then asking $5,500, sold the next day... (that's a lot of money, no?)
Neighbor just sold: 99 Trans Am, 55k, no-sale blue, no ram-air, automatic, leather, t-tops, chrome wheels, taken care of.... asking $13, dunno what she got, took her 2-3 weeks to sell. Lotsa calls, but most people wanted, get this, a stick shift.

rae52......my mom has a 96 Cavalier that has about 205k on it, she drives the car 1k/week and averages 32-34 mpg. We are still debating on what to do.
Mathais........well, if things go the way I want no money will be coming directly out of my pocket to buy the car. We are dumping the ever troublesome Boomerang (94 Chevy K3500). Parking the Explorer isn't necessarily a bad thing, I'll use it when I need it.....camping trips, fishing trips, stuff like that.
See we've identified a pattern........if we have an SUV we want a car, if we have a car we want an SUV, so we figure why not have both. A cheap car ($3k or less) and the Explorer. Then we also have a pickup truck, best of all worlds.
Insurance on the car will be about $400/year, maintainace is minimal, we do all our own and run Amsoil.....25k drain intervals, so that just leaves tires and other little things.
Or we could just completely lose our minds and go buy a 4wheeler.......lol.
I'm in Cincinnati, OH and will likely trade it in for an Acura TL or Infiniti FX35.
Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect on trade?

I am original owner, car is garaged and very well maintained (I do my service at a Honda Dealer), can provide service and repair records for the life of the car.
Car is in very good shape with a few very minor dents (can't see them unless in the right light). BTW, I am located in SW Ohio -- near both Cincinnati and Dayton).
One of the pros can give you real numbers, so this is just my layman's opinion, having watched a lot of deals go by.

How will the price of gas effect car values and new car prices?
I can't find crap here on Edmunds, KBB mentions them only in that certain packages aren't available with the Rumble Bee code, but then doesn't have an entry for the RB code itself, and Dodge's site doesn't have crap either. A search for a forum with info turned up squat. Dodge's web site is woefully incomplete on the subject as well...only some pictures. Ugh.
It can be overwhelming with the 2nd and 3rd post of: .. is it a LS or a LT .. V8 or a V6 .. auto or stick .. Ohio or Oklahoma, well you know the picture .l.o.l..

Your very best example is auctions ...
There might be 30 different dealers bidding on a certain vehicle, 10 might have spotted the damage and thought: "gheez, if I can grab it for $3,500 less than RWTV than I will run the gamble and hope I sell it", 10 might have thought: "hmm it's only a fender" and 10 might walk away and go to the next lane because they saw it all -or- thought it was worse than it really was .. it's hard to say and it's *impossible* for info sources to put a figure on it with words like "good" "fair" "average" without actually seeing it and that all depends on the vehicle, miles, color, geographic area, time of the year, options, your hair color and what you had for dinner on Tuesday ...
Especially certain imports and especially "high-end" imports and domestics .. have a neighbor accidently run his riding lawnmower down the side of the front fender of a Bimmer 330i and do $650 worth of paint work .. when it's all said and done and they have done a wonderful repair job, the vehicle is probably now worth in and around $2,5/$3,0 less than market, then before that little kiss from John Deere and that will depend on the market and the barometric pressure ........................

03 GL with 21k .. miles are kinda tall, it's handshaker (no help there) .. trade side, in and around the mid to high $11's, might get real lucky and find a dealer that might be hungover and drop the low low low low low $12's in it ..... what's your pay-off.? - take all your payments, deduct the tax, then add the residual (thats a ballpark) ......

terry, the saab topic has been pretty active in the last couple weeks.
turned in our leased '01 saab 9-5 se wagon. buyout was 48%(19665). saab got 17100. it had 35.5k when turned in. live in the northeast. immaculate condition, except for one door ding. the front looked brand new, due to the fact that the bumper, fog lights, grille, one headlight was new, and the hood was repainted. the rear bumper cover had been replaced a couple of years ago.
i always took great care of the appearance and had it dressed up for the prom. my wife told me that people at work didn't like to park next to her, because their cars looked crappy compared to hers. the appraiser actually shook my hand as he handed me the inspection report. now she drives a black escape; no rest for the weary.
Anyway, its a pass, driver's side seat back is broken so you get to drive in recline mode, clutch is iffy, and it has a lifter knock. Not worth it if you ask me.
Soooo, we figured we would take a closer look at the 2000 Focus ZX3 he has sitting there. Nice car on first look, got the keys, drove it, was really impressed. VERY nice car, only 26k miles on it, clean inside. BUT.......on closer inspection something was up with the paint on the hood, so I popped the hood and sure enough, the bolts on the pass side fender had been off......looked a little closer, opened the pass side door and UH OH, we found the car that launched the attack on Baghdad. Holy cow, inside of the front door on the car was mangled. I asked if it was a reconstruct and yup, it is. For $5995 I think I'd rather take my chances on a car that hasn't been used in military manuvuers.

Well George, we got some miles going on here, color is good for the "Austin City Limits" (great show) we got new rubber, everything works (of course, it's an Acura) based on your description it's probably worth in and around the high $16's low $17's trade side ... if you cleaned it up with a great detail and dropped a super ad, I bet you would see $18,5/$18,9 down Retail Rd ........

00 SVT Lightning with 32k, hard tonneau cover with the carpet bedliner, tires are just ok and you say it's clean -- that means no runs no hit's no errors, no K-Mart collisions and no paint by numbers ... these lightnings pull some big Jingle, it's whether the dealer will know what this little Bad Boy is all about, miles are low for the year so if it's a nice one, then trade side it should see the ultra high $17's low $18's ... me personally, I would make this dude look like a Prom Queen, run a a superb 5 liner Ad in the Austin paper for $20,900 *asking* and cut it loose for the first $20,0/$20,5 - that should take ya all of 3/4 days, these things do some strong money in the right hands ..

Miles are kinda tall for an 01, most of the "M" buyers like em' with miles in the 20k region and this one better be clean with no re-paints and deep sneakers and lookin' and driving like 25k ... we have the CPO, so the dealer probably has the high $42 maybe the low $43ish figure in it, might have even fallen down hit his head and have the $44 figure in it ..... $49,0 and some change (or less) takes it home, 44k doesn't put it on Santa's list but I'm sure it's on somebodies list ............
