Due to gas price shock and my 120 mile/ day commute, I am considering replacing my Jeep Cherokee one year sooner than I originally intended with a Honda Civic coupe. I don't have a car in mind , but I'm looking for something like this:
2002 Honda Civic Coupe LX, 5 SPD, typical Honda LX options, silver black or white high 20's low 30's on miles
I will probably keep the Jeep as a third car because it makes a good hauler and snow vehicle, but here are the spec's anyway:
1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic, white, auto, 4X4 (full time, not part time), cold air, cruise, tires have about 20% tread left, paint still shines (it details real nice looks like 40K miles), but has some scratches on it, interior clean, the only rust is on the driver's door pinch weld ( you have to be looking for it to find it). When parked, drips one drop of oil each night, probably the rear main seal. 136,000 big miles. I live near Newburgh, NY. Thanks in advance.

Also, I found these two, and I think I'd like them better. The wife and I will look this week
2001 Honda Accord LX
No sale Blue, 5 spd, 44000 miles, looks ok from a distance, it is not at a Honda Dealer, its at a local Mom and Pop Chrysler dealer. Might be a good commuter, I can put a lot of miles on it. Asking $11,995.
1999 Honda Accord LX
Black, Automatic, 35000 miles, haven't looked at it yet. Asking $10,795. Local independent lot.
Thanks in advance.
However, what most people don't realize is that the V10 isn't really worse than a V8. We had a 2001 Ram 2500 5.9L V8 and it was much worse on gas than either of our Ram V10's. Our V10 easily averages 13/14 mpg hwy, 10 towing heavy loads. My dad's Cummins gets 18 hwy empty and 8 towing (we towed with it).
My Explorer gets about 17-19 mpg hwy, but can't tow anything.
I dunno, we like the V10, even if it likes the gas stations more than us.
i live in irvine, ca. i have 2001 ford mustang gt.
it is dark red and i would like to learn trade-in value of it.
thanks.

What say you oh wise one for trade-in and retail road?
May have to trade the Chevy for a small car since there is going to be 1 to 2 trips a week to town (100 miles away) for the next 7 months.
Not that it really breaks my heart to keep the miles off my Explorer.
2001, red, base w/spoiler (about 22K MSRP) 5 speed, nice and shiny and clean, recent full service and sneakers, 44,000 miles, in NJ (Phila burbs).
Might just sell now, and buy a replacement 4 seater later in the year (pray for early snow)!

You did good - "Very good" on that puppy, you got ALL the money and a bag of chips ... I got a kick out of your remark of: "another $100 or so"
It's a Caravan, not a Corum .. let me tell ya something my great grand Daddy told me a looong time ago:
"You can be a Lion and you can be a Tiger ~ but never be a Pig" ..l.o.l....

Most of the dealers here in the Northeast usually quote trades from Galves and I see they now have a website that you can pay for their service(day,week,month...). They claim to update their info. weekly from the large dealer only auctions. I was wondering if you have any idea if their information is any more accurate than the others because it is updated weekly ?
Do you think it is worth the 5 bucks(money back guarantee to help you) they charge for a one day subscription?
Either that, or they go out back and smoke something illegal, then just make up rediculous numbers at random.
Places by me do love to print out KBB retail worksheets to post in the windshield though.

We get those KBB printouts stuck to the side window too. It is usually funny because they are always way too high , but show you saving $200.
CarSense,a big no haggle used car dealer in our area, is big on these.
That right there makes me think their prices are garbage.

I'm getting mid-life convertible lust, would like to get a SAAB 9-3, but don't know if we should keep the Max as a winter car or sell it and use proceeds towards the new one.

Could you please run the numbers on the following vehicle:
2002 VW Passat, GLS 1.8T... stick shift. Only options: Monsoon radio, homelink. 34,000 miles, blue anthracite, excellent condition inside.
Minor door ding scratches on the outside (body shop estimates $350 to repair). On that subject, does it make sense to do the repairs before attempting a trade, or does it make sense to simply deduct repair costs in negotiations with the dealer? I mean, do DEALERS fall for the car with a fresh coat of wax routine? (i.e., a $10 car wash yields hundreds more in trade in offer)
Thanks!
This is a leased vehicle. Current payoff is around $13,800. Lease expires this November, and the residual is around $12,700. I am considering buying it out at the end of the lease... but I am beginning to tire of rowing, and am not particularly interested in being responsible for repairs on a VW turbo engine after the warranty ends.,. and question the market demand for a Passat stick shift with no sunroof. For these reasons, I am considering an early trade in or simply dumping it at the end of the lease.
What would you consider a fair trade-in value for a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD in NYC with 45,000 miles. V6 * Dark Blue * Gray Leather * Sunroof. Interior exceptionally clean (how? I have no clue) Body is good..a few light scratches and one minor ding on door from car seat #1. Can get ding fixed for a C-note (is it worth fixing?) While researching I see that asking prices are all over the place.
Thanks!!

Unfortunately, there is only one infiniti dealer in Indy, so I'll probably just wait and see what else comes out that catches my eye later.

what do you guys think? I'm curious if I was underzealous.
We put the Chevy back together today, finally. Took it out for a drive and its doing the same thing it was before.......so we are back at square one.
Now we either pay a shop to figure it out (again) and fix it or sell it for parts.
Anybody know what a $12k flower planter looks like??

TMV vs KBB can be off by 50/60% of the time, if you look at the TMV it's waaaay off on particular vehicles and overrates the ones with high miles and clobbers the ones with low miles, none of that makes any sense ...
Nada is good for a starting *asking* price with some room to roam, and that gives the dealer an idea of what the lenders will loan on the vehicle, which is great, because most folks are "flipped" in their trade with little or no money down ...
As far as auctions, Manheim is the largest in the country with probably 100+ auctions from New York to Puerto Rico and everything from DC to Hawaii and they probably run about 12 million vehicles a year I would guess, but there is quite a few others like ABC and the Adessa auctions ..
The point being is, as a rule the dealer needs to be "behind" auction money on a trade (depending on the vehicle), they need to do service, add tires, dent and detail work or add a CPO to make it frontline ready - that's why it's important for me to get ALL the Info like the Location, Color, Options, Miles, Tranny, any Body work, etc on these posts .. the only way for me figure what a vehicles is worth in Cincinnati, is for me to look out the window of that store and think like that dealer, then add or subtract all those items, then calculate the market depending on the time of the year and the barometric pressure ......................
Terry.
The best system seems to be to ask the RWTIV King right here

Is this an auto or is this a stick ...? .. it can make a difference as much as $4,000+ "depending" on the vehicle ....
Is this a 4 door sedan or is this the Hatchback/wagon model ...?
It's a low mileage grey Focus that hangs out close to my Aunt in St. Louie .. great.

It's a 5-door hatch (ZX5) with automatic transmission. Says right in the text.
