........ Great little vehicles these Corolla's, oop's I meant Prizms .. base model with 33k, we have a little auto action and the miles are low for the year ...

The history is ok, dealer, dealer, auction, auction, it doesn't really mean much, it could be the same dealer and they swapped inventories or sold it to the dealer down the street ...

$6,500 for an 02.? that's a Very good price, obviously they want it gone, that's about what it would do at the block give or take a few hundred, if you can get it for $6,0 then "Vundabar" (as Mathias would say) .. it's a good business move, why spend the transport, the detail $$, the auction fee and lose a bunch.? blow it off the lot for cheap money .. don't forget to spend $75/$100 and have a Pro put an eyeball on it, it can never hurt.

Let me know what happens ...

I hope you enjoy your new purchase! For those who had after the 4th of July in the pool like myself we'll know better next time... :-)
Seriously I hope that the money you save on mileage will be enough to offset your higher payment.

Lancer-I couldn't have put it better myself! :-)

....... The color is not a big winner in Hotlanta, especially with summer coming on, the miles are LARGE, it's a LS 2wd with cloth, 3rd seat and the dually air is a "gotta have" ...

Me personally, if it's just puuuurfect, deep sneakers, needs -0- not even a wiper blade, no paint work, then I wouldn't want a dime more than $18 in it ... that's probably the reason why he's asking $19,9 for it, the dealer spotted a few things maybe needs $500/$600 and dropped $17/$17,5 in it, now he's down Retail Rd .. it's a "Vegas vehicle" (it's a gamble) if you can grab it for the $18's it might be worth the roll of the dice ...

Let me know how this goes ....

Are you guys, like, reverse paranoiacs?

Do you find yourself lying awake at night UNLESS you're up to your neck in debt? I can't wait to hear what the rationale is going to be for dumping the new sled in 18 months...

OTOH, you did two things right this time: You bought a car that will "presumably" be trouble-free and hold its value; and you got rid of the Chevy, and for a pretty proud #.

This, I'm sure, will inspire you to spend a little "extra" of someone else's money on a TT.

>> Reverse Paranoia<<

Are you looking for that "white knight" to lead you? Do you want authoritarian rules for deciding? Perhaps you have "reverse paranoia"—the belief that you are following someone.

Paranoiacs believe someone is following them and out to get them. Reverse paranoiacs believe they are following someone who is out to lead them. The cause of this paranoia is the "visionary leader fallacy;" the disability is that it stifles self-reliance; the cure is a declaration of interdependence.

"Life is a do-it-yourself operation but you can’t do it alone."

In the future, the inevitable is impossible to know or avoid—so you don’t have to worry about it. The probable is likely but uncertain and the possible is capable of happening but of uncertain likelihood. To avoid anxiety about the future, focus on the possible with positive uncertainty.

Terry, any help on this for a good, but confused friend will help.
LE
86,000 miles
needs 90k service
car has 2 mismatched colors of beige, really bad repaint
4 new doughnuts
South Florida area...Boca Raton
inside average condition
needs bearings up front
car looks rough
carfax will show an accident from North Carolina
He was offered basically $3k from the local Coconut Creek Florida Yota dealer. Final deal otd for a '04 LE with mats, spoiler, upgraded wheels and usual LE stuff was $15k plus his '98 and he walked. After 3 hours, he got them down from $23k and his car to $15k and his car...but he walked anyways.
What says the great sage on this deal? Personally, his ego is getting in the way. His wife really wants a new ride and I told him that he should take the deal...keep the wife happy, and the dealer seems to want his business.
As always, thanks for your help.

If your friend wants to know what this thing is worth in BR, all he needs to do is take 4 hours and shop it to a few dealers.

If he had left the 'yota dealer with a *price* (not a difference figure) for the new one, he could then do the math in his head and sell to the high bidder.

The best money will come by cleaning it up and selling on the street... asking $4,900 and it's gone in a week... what does the wife think about THAT?

She wants the car gone...like yesterday! She's pretty level headed, more so than him, but she wants to get this done so she can go home to NC for their summer vacation.
I must admit, the car does look rough, the paint problem is very noticeable as one walks up to the vehicle.
Would scare me away unless the price was very low!

Ok then; sounds like Mr. Dealerman was stepping up to the plate. If it's gotta be gone "Mach Schnell", $15 + the '98 it is... -m

LOL, I knew I'd get slammed for that.

On another note, the payment hardly changed because the interest rate went down, so the Titan ends up being a cheaper loan than the Explorer. Make sense?

Only problem with the Titan is my husband is already attached to it, that happens and all bets are off. It's only my truck when he's at work, rest of the time its his. He still loves his Ram though.

We are heading out fishing on Wednesday (with the Titan of course) and then next week the Titan should be over its break in miles (1200) and we will start it hauling our small firewood trailer. Its going to have to work for its gas. I didn't buy it to keep it clean and pretty, so we'll see how the Titan holds up, hopefully it'll do good.

Best thing in the world is the Chevy is GONE, I don't ever have to see that POS again.

Now I'm headed off (at least in a little bit) to go wash and wax the Titan. Poor truck is all muddy from our *fun* yesterday.

I have a 2000 audi a4 quattro with the following:
Silver
Quattro
5 speed
Cold weather package (heated seats
convenience package (sunroof
120,000 miles
clean title
good tires
body and interior in good condition

What is a reasonable trade in value?
What is a reasonable private sale value?
Would I have a higher trade in value if I were trade it in at a audi dealer?

Thanks for all your input!

•Black with dark gray interior
•Manual transmission
•6-month-old tires
•Sliding sunroof
•No rear spoiler

•A Sony single CD player (supports MP3s)
•A 10-disc Sony CD changer
•A 12-inch Subwoofer in a box in the trunk (I forget the brand off the top of my head)
•A Razo carbon-fiber shift knob
•Razo racing pedals
•A basketball-sized dent on the right rear quarter-panel, a tear in the rear bumper, and a dented up taillight mount (so a new taillight won't fit on) all from an accident a couple of years ago (the repair estimate was for approx. $5,000).
•I live in the Orange County area of Southern California
can anyone give me an estimated trade-in value? i want to get a subaru wrx sedan, but am not sure if I'll get a new or used one. i can give more details, if necessary. thanks!

===== Thanks for the pics, damage "looks" like $1,5/$2,0/$2,500 on a push, not $5,000 - "unless" this is the model with the rear airbags ...

Anyway, take off all the Darth Vader stuff and put the factory stuff back on, I would just trade it and take the lumps and get over it with 220k, claiming this on your insurance is like claiming dentures on my 3 year nephew .. it's worth maybe a nick .....

Gbrozen from the "Purchasing Used Cars" board referred me to you when I asked him this: When I appraise a used car's "Suggested Retail Value" online, I check kbb.com, nadaguides.com, and, of course, good ol' Edmunds. But I always get three different results. Sometimes the differences are even close to two thousand dollars apart! Which of the three website values is more trustworthy if any? BTW, I don't have a car to trade in.

Just getting to responding now. Been busy drop kicking salmon errr, or something.

Anyway, we had it in our minds after seeing what the Explorer was (not) worth that we won't buy american again...least not this time. If the Titan wasn't the right truck we were already planning on buying a new hitch and brake controller for the Explodeder. Hubby actually wanted to go look at the Titan before we spent $500 to get the Explorer ready. One drive and we were sold.

I asked hubby today how long the Titan was going to hang around (just being obnoxious).......his reply was, "don't even think about trading it it, cause you'll end up with someone I guarentee you will hate" In other words, its the Titan or probably something along the lines of a Tempo. He's after toys now.......4Wheeler/boat/travel trailer, so no more cars for me.

Oh and to the debt thing, we have 2 car payments, that's it. DTI is very low.

We are coming off lease and its residual is $24,900 - good idea to buy, just give it back or try and make a dime and sell it?

Car is '01 Audi S4 Avant, 30k, Nogaro blue pearl with black leather/blue alcantara interior, BOSE, heated seats, sunroof, power seats etc. Lovely condition, always dealer maintained (it was free ;)), new Continentals and still with 1yr/20k on warranty and dealer maintenance inc.

Thanks in advance for advice :) (EDIT : we are in Pittsburgh, PA)

....... Nice vehicles and in demand -IF- they are clean and no repaints .. this one is low in miles, warranty, Bozo sound, serviced, color is good for an S4, cold package, new rubber and we have a hole in the roof ...

$24,900 ..? great idea to buy, the average bank will loan "around" $29ish on it and most dealers will pay into the $23 range and *ask* $29 for it with a CPO .. with the proper fat daddy Ad you would probably see the mid to high $27's for it on the Retail side ~ the question is: what about your sales tax.? .. now, you "could" sell the vehicle to your second cousin twice removed and have him pay the tax (cuz' the lease company just wants their money, not the history) .. but you never heard that from me, cuz' i'm just a dumb white boy with little or no edjacation - know what I mean Vern.? So it's a much better idea just to purchase and enjoy it ............. :)

........... I know this car, it was parked right in front of the Boca Raton Resort Club the other day, right.?

It needs all kinds of stuff, the bearings are calling home "collect", it's been bouncing off cars since North Carolina, it hasn't been using any of it's 30SPF and it's got that "Mariel boat lift" look and thats Rough - it's got 90k and the service is a "wink" away .... and he walked away from $15,0 and his collectors item .?!?!?

Slap that boy upside his head and get him to a De-tox center, then get him back to the dealer .. gheez, it sounds like a $3grand car - maybe, and that's if there isn't any refugees in the trunk ............. :)

Thanks Terry (RE 2002 Mazda b4000 4x4 Extended cab, loaded with four doors),

I guess the only esteem problem I have is my own. I have not put this vehicle out for trade or the market yet. Some of the vehicles I am most interested in (new Tacoma, Frontier, Xterra or even Honda SUT) will not be out till 2005. I'm a little above the low to mid eleven range right now in terms of what I owe, but I am knocking it down $350 a month (actual equity, my payment is higher) and my mileage has been slowing due to some changes in my life - so maybe within a few months I might be in a position to do something. Main issue is that I have figured out I really need at least a crew cab pick-up or a real SUV.

I had another Mazda truck (an older Ranger clone and not the even older Japanese one) that I sold private party before buying this one. But with a 7% sales tax where I live, getting a trade and getting a dealer to push a trade value (at the expense of what I am supposedly paying for a new one) is kind of attractive. Any legal way to avoid paying the man.

But +/- $11k is in line with other research I have seen and seems fair to me. What has scared me is seeing some of the low values I have seen you estimate on some other late model cars, and the fact that while I know mine is loaded (4X4, big engine, extended cab) I see ads daily pushing new stripped 4 cylinder regular cab pick-ups for less than $10k.

Can you give me a fair trade in value for a
2000 Honda Civic EX 4dr sedan?

Vintage Plum Color (Honda's official color name)
82,000 miles
a/c
airbags (driver and passenger side)
power windows
power locks
power side mirrors
power moonroof with wind deflector
Anti-lock brakes
5 speed manual transmission
paint still shines but with minor dings (car doors banging it, etc)
Oil changes, tire rotations, etc performed on schedule

The only flaw is that the right side passenger window control does not always work (you have to control the window from the drivers side)

Thanks

...... ** What has scared me is seeing some of the low values - I see ads daily pushing new stripped 4 cylinder regular cab pick-ups for less than $10k **

It's just like real estate ad's .. you look in the paper and see this nice condo for $169,000 and that's what gets you to the open house, so by the time you wander around and take a Good look, it needs the upgrade carpet, fans, "real" formica tops, tile, driveway, Brand Name appliances, wood cabinets, closet doors, better fixtures than plastic and the landscape work, so by that time, your over $200++ ...

Every dealer and/or manufacturer push a loss leader or a special lease deal, take BMW as an example, there notorious for it ... $299 X 36 with $999 down for a "3" series - Thats great, If you "don't" want leather, slider, auto, cold package, metallic paint, premium package or a nice sound system .. if you do, then it's $500+ a month and you better be ready to drop about $3 large, so where's the beef .?

The point is, most people don't want a base pick-up .. most are looking for all the power stuff, auto, wheels, most prefer a 4x4 (whether they need it or not) and most prefer the extra horses and the Ecabs, just ask Mr. Ford, the F150 has been knocking them silly since it's inception ...

====== Miles are on the lowish side and these hot little Honda's are doing some pretty strong money, and now that you have summer in Dallas it should be an easy sell trade or retail .....

If it's a nice one, looks and feels new, deep round things, service is 100%, no paintwork and the interior looks "hovered" in .. then trade side, the mid to high $20,0 figure, "might" get a dealer to drop the low low low $21 figure in it if it's really nice ....

2002 Audi A6 Avant
Location: New York City.
Color: Brillant Black
Interior Color: Black
Engine: 3.0 V6.
Miles: 10K.
Tires condition: Deep in rubber.
All leather interior.
Moonroof.
Auto.
Bose 6 disc in dash changer(factory).
Side curtain for both front and rear.
Cold weather package ( Front and rear heated seat and heated outside mirrors ).
Xenon headlights.
Front side airbags.
Backup warning sensor.
Interior condition - other than the small indentation where the baby seat is located, looks like its hover in.
Exterior condition - 3 inch light scratch on left rear passenger door, should be able to buff out. Front and rear bumper has some small nicks from SUVs with trailer hitch backed into it. And here's the big one, I was rearended last year, the rear bumper and right rear panel was repaired, the damages was $3000(air bags for either car was not deployed). The repaired paint work looks perfect, but the panel gap is not as tight as an original. But you really need to look for it to notice, a professional car appraiser should have no trouble seeing it if he/she knows what to look for. Otherwise, no other dents or scratch on the car, garaged at home also.

So, what do you think is this car's current trade in value? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your opinions on this. Although it may be wishful thinking, I do tend to agree that this thing could net me $1500 or so. It's a great car, runs just great, super reliable. The rust really is minor at this point. I can afford to buy me new car first, and then sit on this until I find a buyer. I'll fill you in on the results.

........ Great Description - thanks.!

We can make you the Poster Child ..

02 A6 Avant with Itsy Bitsy miles, back-up beep beep, side balloons, slider, Bozo sound, auto, cold pack, black on black in NYC so it's the right color for the area and we have this rear bumper and right rear panel that was repaired, the damage was $3000 ...

The reality is, you can pass gas on an Audi and have $700 of work done .. this "seems" like it's not that bad, but the panel gap will give it away and "usually" that means someone somewhere "might" think it took a direct hit in a battle with the Bismarck and maybe figure $5/$7ish in damage - I just can't say without really seeing it ... no repair: trade side, then it's worth in and around the super tall $25ish range, "maybe" $26 with the right dealer .. with the repair: it's worth maybe in the $22/$23 range depending on what the eye see's .....

If I were you, I would get that dude a super duper makeover, finish any service, a glorious ad and run it down Retail Rd, $29,900 *asking* (with the repair papers in the front seat) and cut it from the herd for $27,9/$28,9 .. the short miles and the color will save this one if it's properly presented ...

Don't forget to let me know or I will have to send the posse off to remind you ....

I hope that's everything but you'll tell me if it isn't. Thanks for any advice you all can give me for my negotiations.

We are coming off of lease of a 2001 Volvo V70 Cross Country. The residual buy out is $22,500. I would appreciate your thoughts on buying it and whether that is a good buyout price.

The car has 26,500 miles on it and regular dealer maintenance has been performed (no problems since we have leased it). It is white with taupe interior leather, fully loaded except for navigation and premuim audio. Also has built in booster seats. Excellent condition except for a three small tears (1/4 inch) in the rear leather seat (from a child car seat).

Right now it really depends on what the Toyota dealer had in terms of the Sienna's inventory and how they want to price it. I know my Audi dealer wants the car back, but since Audi don't make mini-van....

Right now, I will probably Keep the Audi until the end of the lease. Unless the Toyota dealer is very motivated. Thanks for the info though.

...... ** The flattened Escort has 85k **

Maybe I should have spent more than $300 for that Lasik and used a Dr that had a degree from some other place other than the Dominican Republic .. oh well.

Can you give me a fair trade in value for a
2000 Honda Civic EX 4dr sedan?

Vintage Plum Color (Honda's official color name)
82,000 miles
a/c
airbags (driver and passenger side)
power windows
power locks
power side mirrors
power moonroof with wind deflector
Anti-lock brakes
5 speed manual transmission
paint still shines but with minor dings (car doors banging it, etc)
Oil changes, tire rotations, etc performed on schedule

The only flaw is that the right side passenger window control does not always work (you have to control the window from the drivers side)

Thanks

.......... So where was I.? .. oh yeah, going blind ..

We have a Eighty Five thousand mile 98 Escort, no Ztec, no breeze in cheesehead country, LX, "was" clean, handshaker and it's a blue 4dr with new round things .. sounds like a $1,2/$1,5 vehicle in the land of Brett Favre on the wholesale side, what the insurance company might do is more on the retail side .. I would "guess" somewhere in and around $2,5/$3,0 - thank goodness you live in Wisc, if you lived south of the Mason/Dixon line you might be seeing about a ghee whiz ...

anyway, let me know ...!

Terry.
