....... Now, thats a BIG help .....! .. waaay cool.!
so far so good. I drove it to work today and grew to like it even more. I think I'm easily amused, though. You want to know the one thing on the car that made me say "wow!" ... Its got an actual working and accurate analog clock! Man, I haven't seen a working one since my Dad's '87 K5 Blazer was new!
One other small problem is I THINK it may be overheating. I'm trying to do research on this now but owners and "experts" opinions seems to differ. The clutch-driven fan should either kick in at 100 degrees or 110 according to my sources. If it doesn't, that's either a switch or fan problem (most likely switch). So, if it really is overheating (I didn't let it get to 110 because I thought 100 was the limit), then it should be a cheap and easy fix.
And, to stay somewhat on topic, I think if I keep this puppy looking and running nice, I could drive it for quite some time to come and still get a pretty penny for it if I decide to sell. The closest I've seen for sale are 130K mile examples with more problems for $4K. So I'm quite happy with our purchase ... so far. Thanks for asking!

I am thinking of purchasing a pre owned X5 4.4awd(2002) fully loaded with sport pkg, Navigation, moon roof, premium sound, multi compact disc, etc. The car is in mint condition and only has 9000 thousand miles on it. All service records look great, seems like it was owned by a little old man who only drove it to church . The dealer started with 46,900,after 3min got down to 45,500. Does this seem like a good price for a pre owned x5 vehicle that is two years old or should I push harder for him to come down some more. Michael ............... CT ...

Yep .. every old guy I know drives a BMW X5 4.4 to church and their wives drive brand new XJR's, of course their wives are 25 years younger .l.o.l..
Anyway ...... obviously the miles are super low sitting at 9k for an 02 .. we have the nav, slider, tunes, probably everything ... $46,900 ..? yeah, I would dropping the price too ..
$45,500 ..?? .. "lets just say" this bad boy is cleaner then the "Board of Health" and twice as Sanitary, I mean Jam-up and Jelly Tight .. if so, then the dealer might, maybe has the $35ish figure in it, could have lost a ton a money in the Miami/Seminoles game and has $36 and some change in it on a bad bet .....
$45,500..?? .. thats a great price if your a sheep herder in Qatar .. but lets be honest, these things get sold because they say: BMW .. but they get traded because the next sign says: BMW "Service Department" ..... $39,5 is all the $$ and $41,000 is if you just-can't-live-without-it ....................

i'm not really sure, but i think he's cracking another joke (sorry, Terry, but I didn't get that one). Then again, I suppose if you take your car to the dealer for everything .....

Time to get serious about selling my: 93 Sentra SE-R White with grey interior 5 speed 60,300 original miles Provo, UT area 1 shallow dent in the driver's door 6" long or so with some touch up paint A couple tiny parking lot dings with no paint broken Scuffs on the lower part of the front bumper Just had it detailed, shines up nicely No cruise, no roof, no PW/ no PL - base SE-R only Cold A/C Original Nissan AM/FM Cassette New front brake pads and rotors 5k miles ago Michelins match but needs new rubber One busted driving light lens, but both lights work Missing center caps from alloy wheels Overall, it's not perfect but is in very nice condition, 100% original with NO aftermarket mods. Any thoughts on a private party number? Also, do you think the local paper is the best way to go here, or should I try ebay/Autotrader for a wider audience? It's pretty hard to find these in decent condition anymore. Or should I make my wife mad and just keep it Thanks in advance, Jason ps My e-mail is now public

You haven't sold this clunker yet.?
It's a 93 SE-R with 60k tiny miles, color is good, rubber is weak, we got the meat clever, no slider, cold breeze, no power pack, almost new stoppers and it needs a few things ....
You can grab some rubber at the Sears sale (you do have a Sears in Utah.?) and get a new lens at a yard or check a Nissan dealer, or online ... great vehicle for Retail Rd .. clean that puppy up, finish any service - as far as Ad's, I would just get a super nice 4/5 liner in the biggest paper in your area (you do have papers there.?) you are even close enough to also run it in SLC, it's about 40 miles away(?) and there is like 30,000+ students at BYU and it's right down the street and run it for 14 days .. if it cleans up real nice, runs super you shouldn't have a problem selling it .. $3,900 *asking* and $2,9/$3,5 gets a new owner ....
..... You have to watch that dry sense of humor and you would have to know someone from the land of the big elephants to get it ......
lets go nuts, part is $40 and they get sloooooow and hit ya with an hrs labor, $85 .... aah, a buck and a quarter on a bad day. It's still a great buy at $3,500 even if you have to put a little jingle in it ...

Another Bengals fan .....
It's a Explorer conversion and it's a low topper .. good description, thanks.
Exploders are one of the best and they come in 3 different configurations, this one sounds like the better one .. ... we have the AWD, moo seats with the bun warmers, lights, power rear bench, we have the Disney package, tow pack, boards, hot and cold running air, good color anywhere, we got them Dutch doors going on, a few small meteorite hits and a couple K-Mart kisses and we're staring down the barrel of 55k, ooop's lets not forget that rebuilt tranny - what were you towing, a 28ft Formula ..? ....
What can I say.? ... the leaves are starting to fall up north and conversion vans aren't on too many "must have" lists for the dealers, this one has stiff miles, tranny work - and as Mathias would say: has the resale value of anvils on Jupiter .....
So, if the rubber is deep, no click click in the awd, no soccer team interior, no battles at Burger King, no repaints and it looks and drives like 25k ... Depending on the dealer (cuz' these ain't no winning lottery tickets) then trade side, "in and around" the mid $7's, might/maybe/could based on the solar flare eruptions get a dealer to drop the low low low low low low $8's in it, maybe ... the AWD saves it, but the miles Kill it and the conversion reaffirms it .. these are like Saab's, never buy them new ..

Yikes, 22k on a RX8.? .. Kate, your another one that needs to get a better dating service ... "Renesis" is that the big animal that lives in Africa with the horn in it's head, or is that a Rhinoceros ..?
But anyway .. it's a black on black auto, we have 22k, we have the Bozo sound, tour pack and oh my goodness -racing pedals - still my heart .. there's no such thing as "excellent" unless your a driving a Bentley GT with 1,200 miles on it ...
These are nice quality vehicles, but under advertised and overpriced, lots of dealer cash on em' right now .. if this dudette is "clean to the bone" then you might see in and around the $20ish figure, maybe get a brave Hiawatha and step up to $21, but these are all over the auctions .... nice vehicles, bad marketing.

Terry, Thanks for the trade-in info. I'm a little surprised it's that low. I traded in another not quite as loaded Astro conversion when I bought this one and got $12,000 for it in 12/02. Has the market changed that much?
I'm thinking of selling it myself. Any advice on where to get good pricing for conversion vans would be appreciated. Again, KBB and NADA don't list conversions or have as many as options as I have on this one, so it's hard to get pricing.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the $12k you got for your last van was likely an "overallowance", and the dealer made up the difference on the new price. New conversion vans are hard to price, as are used ones.
As far as the value for a private sale; always $1k over wholesale value as a kind of minimum to accept, with an initial asking price of $2k over not unreasonable. You can always come down...
The Astro has a few image problems, such as THE worst reliability record in vans according to Consumer Reports. Or the fact that it's a 20-year-old design. Stuff like that :-)

Hi Terry, I posted this last week, didn't hear back, thought I'd try again. I desperately need to get a reasonable asking price for my 99 Passat GLS 1.8L Turbo Automatic, 90K miles, Metallic Silver, Leather/Heated Seats, Sunroof, 6-disc Changer & premium sound, New Tires, New brakes, New engine head, New timing belt, New ignition Control Model, New Battery and yes, a New Catalytic Converter as of yesterday. Selling in zip code 22032.
I've only owned the car for a year and a half and put in over 1/2 the purchase price in repairs since I bought it. It's gotta go, but I've never sold or traded-in a car before. Any wisdom to offer?? Thank you, thank you!!
Please see the link at the very top of the page with this title: If you are looking for a $ on your Trade-In, use this handy guide to provide all the needed information: Real-World Trade-In Values Form.
There is several important bits of information missing, or incorrectly posted in both postings and a repost is in order if you want the most accurate estimate of the values in questions.
rbenton: your posting was close, but the year would be very important. carnaive: no zip codes, they don't mean anything, city and state (or nearest large metropolitan area) please. As well as an accurate description of the condition of the car, interior, exterior, etc.

There has been no apparent terroist activity with this car; it looks good. Drives like new.
Color: No sale Green.
I am looking at paying 22K for the car, and am trying to figure out if that is a good deal; what could I flip it for? (If I buy it, I will not flip it....I have a thing for SAAB's).
..... You gotta remember it has 55k, not 25k, plus this dude has been under the knife ..
Just to give you a better idea on the market, dealers are only paying the $9ish figure for the clean loaded up AWD LT's with 20/25k, they have warranty, they have leather quads, dual breeze and they sell, quickly -- conversions, weeell ..... if you didn't have AWD you would be sucking air .. and the last van.? I don't have the info, but I have a funny feeling that Mathias gets the Bingo card for the day and you were "shown" an overallowance, won't be the first time and it certainly won't be the last ...........
Down Retail Rd, superb Ad and detail, $9,900 *asking* and kick it loose to one of the Dallas Cheerleaders for the $8,9/$9,5 figure ........

yeah, we are still happy about our buy, even after driving it all weekend. As a matter of fact, the wife says she enjoys driving it even more than her 18-month-old vehicle. "Geez, hun, thanks! So we could have saved about $27K in the first place?!"
still have yet to experience real overheating, so that may not be a problem after all. But I did order $215 of parts for a complete tuneup (something I always do when I buy a used car anyway) and spent $7 at the local parts store for a new headlight bulb. So now I'm into it for $3722. And I still think its a bargain.

====================== Thanks, Terry. I've been wondering about whether or not a new set of tires would be worth it. Yes, we do have Sears here - ours haven't all been washed into the Gulf of Mexico by Charlie, Francis, Ivan, (Jeanne?)...
Thanks again, and I'll let you know. If I can't get some decent money for this pup I'll probably hang onto it. It's too good a car to just give away.
Miles are ok at 16k, we have that no-sale green thing going on, but we have the tan moo seats, slider, bun warmers, HK, no star, no apparent terroist activity you say it's in pretty good shape all in all .... dealer side, it's a $19ish vehicle, maybe $20,0 on a push .... at $22, nobody is getting hurt ...
It just "astounds" me how much damage was done in the Pensacola/Mobile area .. I was on the phone yesterday with some dealer friends in the PA area and their stores and vehicles have been washed out with 9/10 inches of rain and floods, they lost hundreds of vehicles -- AMAZING .. it's not so much the business aspect, it's those poor folks who live there .................. Ivan the Terrible.!
I would never try to minimize anyone's loss. However, you have to wonder how many people strategically leave cars in the hurricane's path that they are extremely upside down in (this only works if you have gap insurance though) or that they are just plain tired of.
....... I don't doubt there is some nut case somewhere that hasn't tried it .. but there is no real strategy when it comes to 125mph winds and a 16ft Tidal surge that hits and it misses your driveway .. my friends had their vehicles in storage buildings and they floated out almost 500ft - I doubt they called George Lucas first .l.o.l...
in the form of flood cars that are reno'd and sold as "program" unit. No need to worry at decent stores I suppose, but those that habitually use screamers and tent sales will be hawking them for sure!
This has been a horrible year for the United States weather wise...just incredible! I guess loosing power for almost 3 days with Frances really pales in comparison to what others have suffered. I pray to G-d that this will be the end of this madness!!
Terry, I found an '04 TL (non-nav) in Northern Virginia with 12700 miles. Car looks solid all around. Blue with camel interior. Car is at non-dealer, used car lot. They are asking $30,000. I was thinking more in the 27 range given '05 are about to hit the lots. Thanks.
Hey hurricane dude, I've got one that needs your expert analysis. It's a 2002 Acura RSX (not an -S) with the 4 banger and the Sport Shift slushbox. Color is Desert Silver (the darker one), with gray cows inside. Has all the regular goodies, roof, CD, etc. No nav. In the neighborhood of 28,xxx miles. Immaculate condition. Hovered in, to use the parlance of our time. Sneakers show plenty of tread. One small dent in the nose to get fixed. Last winter it caught a piece of flying ice on the highway, resulted in a decent sized dent on the hood that required a $600 pull and paint. Located in the home of the soon to be World Series Champion Cardinals.
============================================
Hurricane dude..? had to wrap up the properties, boat, bikes, my favorite Wayne Newton albums .. bud, this is the TWIN to what happened 5 years ago (almost to the week) with Floyd, we will be buggin' out tommorow morning ..
02 RSX with 28k, we have the right color, we have a little $600 kiss to the hood, leather, slider, tunes, auto and you say it's cleanish ..... depending on the finish work and the sneakers, trade side, in and around the mid/tall $13's, might see the low $14's ....... the Cards.? my money is on Boston ......
The initial offer was $14,100, backed up with a KBB printout, so you nailed it. Again. They weren't moving off the MSRP of the '05, so I got them to push the $14,100 up to $15,600. Smiles all around. Thanks for your help. And keep the hurricanes away. We're headed your way in two weeks.
Ivan flooded all the roads and knocked over a huge tree in my mother-in-law's yard. Missed her house, but not by much. And she lives WAY inland - Henderson, NC! Out here we get wildfires, we're overdue for an earthquake and we even had a tornado right in downtown Salt Lake a few years back that ripped the roof off the Jazz' arena. Beats living in hurricane alley like you folks in Florida, the "please sir may I have another" state.
I was thinking about flooded cars being resold when I read Terry's post, but any particular reason why they would end up in N.E.? It would be interesting to know how/if cars flooded or otherwise wrecked at a dealer get different treatment, title or otherwise, than the same type of cars owned by an individual..........(I know this is not as important as what the people in FL & AL are going thru right now, but I've read horror stories about flooded vehicles being sold out of state).
Anything is possible .. but I have a feeling that they "showed" you an overallowance, which in fact is a better discount on the new vehicle, hopefully .... RSX's are nice vehicles, but they're not burning down any bridges on the dealer side ..
... **any particular reason why they would end up in N.E.?** .....
Good question.!
From what I have been reading .. there has been major flooding in the Carolina's, W. Virginia and PA .. so I would be really careful for the next 60/90 days on new as well as used, just because you live in the NE doesn't mean someone wouldn't drop 200/300 vehicles in that area ............... ;(

One suggestion: Put the "body style" after "model"; for most cars it's moot, but for some (Civic coupe, Taurus wagon) it makes a big difference.

93 Sentra SE-R
White with grey interior
5 speed
60,300 original miles
Provo, UT area
1 shallow dent in the driver's door 6" long or so with some touch up paint
A couple tiny parking lot dings with no paint broken
Scuffs on the lower part of the front bumper
Just had it detailed, shines up nicely
No cruise, no roof, no PW/ no PL - base SE-R only
Cold A/C
Original Nissan AM/FM Cassette
New front brake pads and rotors 5k miles ago
Michelins match but needs new rubber
One busted driving light lens, but both lights work
Missing center caps from alloy wheels
Overall, it's not perfect but is in very nice condition, 100% original with NO aftermarket mods. Any thoughts on a private party number? Also, do you think the local paper is the best way to go here, or should I try ebay/Autotrader for a wider audience? It's pretty hard to find these in decent condition anymore.
Or should I make my wife mad and just keep it
Thanks in advance,
Jason

$3,900 *asking* and $2,9/$3,5 gets a new owner ....
let me know ...
Terry
lets go nuts, part is $40 and they get sloooooow and hit ya with an hrs labor, $85 .... aah, a buck and a quarter on a bad day. It's still a great buy at $3,500 even if you have to put a little jingle in it ...

Want to trade on a 2005 Lexus ES 330 or Acura TL.

Hows the weather up there, I see you guys got a little rain .... also, what kind of school teacher.?
Could be a nice one .. the color is right, slider of course and you know the previous owner, leather, cd, etc and we have 50k ... if the paint is like an 03, the rubber is from last month, no batons in the seats, no tuba's in the trunk, service is current .. then trade side, in and around the tall $15's, "might" see the low low low low low $16's, "could" "maybe" see the mid $16's if it's jam-up puuuurfect, glows in the dark, blessed and it needs -0- ... but I have a funny feelin' the tall $15's will be the figure ....................

Make/Model: Honda Accord EX 4dr sedan
Mileage: 100,100
Engine: 3.0 litre V6
Transmission - automatic
Color - eggplant/plum exterior - tan interior
Major Options - alloy rims, moon roof, rear spoiler, power seat
Condition:
exterior: a couple of minor surface scratches, and some paint blotching/fading on the trunklid, rear corner of the roof panel, and on the panel running betweein the rear windshield and the rear door *c pillar i think it is* this paint is fading in roughgly a 1" wide circle UNDER the clearcoat on each of these spots, but there is no rust and the clearcoat is still glossy on
interior: exellent showroom condition, flawless
Tires - fairly new, i would say roughly 15% worn maximum
Brakes - farily new, same as tires i would say
Maintenance - clean title history, all maintence done by liscenced honda dealer or repair company
Other: roof was repainted under warranty once, and the paint faded again in the same spot anyway, so it is a paint defect from the manufacturer which they refuse to acknowledge under warranty anymore *bullsh#t if you ask me*, transmission was replaced under warranty by honda at about 99,000 miles due to some slippage in it, front end *rack and pinion steering system* replaced also under warranty at roughly 85,000 miles due to a maufacturer defect
i am assuming the trade in value on this car is roughly $6,000 please let me know if i am in the right ballpark
2002 AWD Astro Explorer conversion
Leather seats
Power and heated front seats
Power rear bench seat - folds flat
In-ceiling DVD + TV receiver + video game plug-in
Mood lighting around ceiling
Wood trim
Pleated shades on side windows
Power locks with Key fob activation
Towing package + hitch
Running boards
AM/FM/CD player
Rear heat and A/C
Pewter color with custom striping
55,000 miles
Dutch doors at rear with defroster
Condition is overall very good. I've kept multiple floor mats on the carpet, so that's in excellent shape. There are a few rock chips on the fenders and 2 small dings on the front fender where someone backed into me with a trailer hitch. Just had the transmission replaced. Has been regularly serviced as required at the Chevy dealer. The rear door window has some minor etching from the wiper blade. Cost to replace is $312 - is that something I should do before I put it on the market? Thanks!

Thanks for stopping by .....

Wow, talk about the kiss of death ........ hmmm, ah, well, uhm, lets see, then again - how about those Dolphins.?
Nothing is going your way here .. 2wd, 4 banger, handshaker, base DX, color (depending on where you live) about 20 of these dudes in the whole country, miles are ok, I shot an 81 yesterday, did I say the miles were ok.? ........... trade side, in and around the $7ish zipcode, I dunno it's an oddball vehicle .. now, if it was a super nice 4wd ES with all the stuff then you would be seeing the deep $12's ..... who sold you this thing, Jerry Lewis.?
Terry.
You should have known you were going to be in trouble when you picked out that Yukky eggplant/plum exterior, that in itself is a killer ...
Kinda rare .. paint problems, tranny and rack and pinion problems.? - Wow, see what color can do for a vehicle .l.o.l.....
Yeppers, I think you are in the "ballpark" .. but don't Postal if you see the low/mid $5's ~ color.

Thanks for the trade-in info.
Thanks again!
Mybuy
New conversion vans are hard to price, as are used ones.
As far as the value for a private sale; always $1k over wholesale value as a kind of minimum to accept, with an initial asking price of $2k over not unreasonable. You can always come down...
The Astro has a few image problems, such as THE worst reliability record in vans according to Consumer Reports. Or the fact that it's a 20-year-old design. Stuff like that :-)

70 % tires 10% brakes

I've only owned the car for a year and a half and put in over 1/2 the purchase price in repairs since I bought it. It's gotta go, but I've never sold or traded-in a car before. Any wisdom to offer?? Thank you, thank you!!
I would like to get the trade value on a car I may buy.
2003 SAAB 9-5 Linear Wagon
Wilmington, DE
2.3 LPT engine
16,700 Miles (Warentee expiers 12/06)
5 Sp. Auto w/ sentronic (paddle shifters)
Tan Cow's Hide
Slider
Harmon Kardon Sound
Memory Seats
Heated Seats
Onstar
ESP
Basically, all the extras.
Good Rubber.
Known histroy (I would be the third owner, but no problems; first owner needed a bigger car for 3 kids, sencond owner (my uncle) has six cars for 4 drivers). 5K oil changes at SAAB dealer.
Let me know .!

yeah, we are still happy about our buy, even after driving it all weekend.
still have yet to experience real overheating, so that may not be a problem after all. But I did order $215 of parts for a complete tuneup (something I always do when I buy a used car anyway) and spent $7 at the local parts store for a new headlight bulb. So now I'm into it for $3722. And I still think its a bargain.

Thanks, Terry.

Terry.
Not good .............

============================================
Terry.
-------------------------------------------------
The initial offer was $14,100, backed up with a KBB printout, so you nailed it. Again. They weren't moving off the MSRP of the '05, so I got them to push the $14,100 up to $15,600. Smiles all around. Thanks for your help. And keep the hurricanes away. We're headed your way in two weeks.

Terry.
Good question.!
From what I have been reading .. there has been major flooding in the Carolina's, W. Virginia and PA .. so I would be really careful for the next 60/90 days on new as well as used, just because you live in the NE doesn't mean someone wouldn't drop 200/300 vehicles in that area ............... ;(
