Ouch.
Of course, I'd love it, but I'm strange ....

Edit: Oh, and it's a black car in Florida to boot? Ouch again.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
I would buy it, but just like Jason, I'm strange
A couple of examples I saw:
'00 45k miles, black on grey, clean (do these have any options??) well, standard stuff like leather, slider, etc.
'01 28k miles, green on tan, clean, again, standard stuff like leather and slider. ad says bozo sound or premium sound or something like that.
The first one I believe is listed at $21K and the second at $24K. I believe the 2nd one with the lower miles and newer year is the better bargain, but it is No Sale Green. So what say the master?
We'll cover my volvo later. Not in the mood for bad news today.

The E is a stick shift, right? ;->
And yes, I would be the one fool that would buy a stick shift E class.

aka,
Just don't step in the moose chips!
Terry, back in mid Oct, you gave us the following info for my sons 2000 Tacoma Xcab in Tucson AZ.
-----------------------
Good description, thanks .... for starters, kick that friggin' red topper off, I'm happy Boston won but not enough to lose a sale with, spend $150ish and drop a liner in it and get new mats .... it's a 00 Yota Coma' SR5 with a handshaker, white is good in Tucson, 89k, cold breeze, V6, 2WD, Ecab, power pack ...
Sounds like a visit to the *Dukes of Detail* it needs to get that "clean" look, finish any service - remember, dirty vehicles get dirty money and clean vehicles get clean money, so spend a few bucks and then get a great 4/5 liner Ad on the biggest paper in the area - $10,900 *asking* and off it goes for the first $9,5/$10,5 .. watch the ego on this price point, lots of folks have $9,900 or less, but it seems few have $10ish .....
Don't forget to let me know what happens, or I will throw my 9 iron at your garage the next time I'm in the area .........
----------
Turns out, it needed about $2,200 worth of manual trans overhaul, grinding going into 3rd, and clucth was almost worn out also, SOOOO..my son accepted a cash buyer's offer of $7,500, and he is a happy camper.
Now, he wants to buy an "older" conversion van! geeeez! he's in a "rock band" (punk? I duno, it's just noise to me, but my parents used to say that about the Beatles!) Anyway, I digress...
He's found in Tucson, (at a local independant used car lot) a 92 Ford econoline E150 with a "Universal" conversion. 5.8 Liter, automatic, 65,000 miles (for real) had a mechanic check it out, and only thing it needs is perhaps a A/C compressor, as it has a drop of oil dripping from it. Blows cold now, but may have had a recent re-charge. Tires are about 50% and showing some cracking (dry rot?)The interior and exterior are in fabulous shape...the interior is realy nice! TV, ceiling lights run the length of back, captans chairs and fold down 3rd seat makes into a bed. rear AC...additional cassette player stereo in side wal behind drivers seat. All seems to be real wood inside. Evidently, Universal is outta the business now??
I have no idea how to even book this with KBB or Nada to get a ballpark. Please lend your professional opinion. Asking price is $4995.
Thanks,
Jeff

I stumbled across this during my search. I've always loved these cars... Not much info, but this is what I have.
'95 Acura Legend LS
Tan exterior and guts
Akron Ohio area
130k miles
private seller
according to the ad, all maintenance has been done, and it's "perfect"
Asking price is $6,690 obo. What do you think? I haven't made it up to check it out yet.
Update: New tires and brakes. No accidents, but rust repaired and repaint over both rear wheel wells. Quality job according to the seller. Interior looks hovered in except for the drivers seat which has a few wrinkles, but no tears or cracks. No problems except for a missing window lock button on the driver's side door.
As always..Thanks,
Q
I think what Terry would say is that's a good price if you are in Uganda.
Like jaserb mentioned, it's a black, stick shift, 4 cyl. cloth int. car in FL with 50K+ miles, & no warranty. What do you expect? Your parents must have gotten their money's worth by now, right?
Trading your A4 on another Audi: you'll be facing the same kind of depreciation in another 4-5 years, IMO. Buy an Acura, or a Honda, & you'll do MUCH better at trade in time.
>>Would it be better to attempt to trade in at an Audi dealer?
And the owner has admitted that it has been repaired. Once rust starts....it can be a real slippery slope. I think you can do better.
Good luck.
Doug
The car certainly is not in average condition given the damage.
No dealer in his right mind wants the car. I've seen much better condition and much newer Sebring Convertibles this month bring only a couple of thousand, and those were automatics.
You are looking at trade side in its given condition, around $1,000. Retail side now of $2500 or a little less. Spring time with the stuff fixed, private party retail asking of $3900 and an out the door of $3000-$3500. Just before spring, you can just about double the trade value.

what can i get for it traded in to a dealer vs private party?
The offers they have been given just seem so low considering that the car would probably sell for around $17k at a dealer. I mean the 56k mileage is very reasonable considering the car probably has another good 100k in it, if not more. The Infiniti dealer did suggest to take it to Carmax and my dad plans on doing so but hasn't yet. I will report back with what he finds out.
Nope, not true.
>>>With the tiny turbo motor, you have to have a 5-speed for reasonable performance, and buyers in this class of small luxo-sports sedans tend to have a higher interest in the manual tranny. So the 5-speed/sport suspension should be a desirable combo<<<
not true... you have rec'd some consultation, please park the ego to the side of the road. Let's face it, its a much tougher car to resale than the typical silver a4 quattro auto w/ leather... its business 101. you said it yourself, you commend your mom for driving the "stick", most people don't want to bother.
I thought an update might help you through the day. The LSI Prizm was sold last week on the second call, after some brief negotiations they took $8,100. They received 12 calls on it before they shut the Ad off (I think they could have got more) and the Mitsu sold yesterday for $14,900 - they did pretty good after the dealers best figure of $12,500. So again, your right on the money!
Many thanks and enjoy the Season.

Also need your location - very critical this time of year, combined with the drive system.
since i've had my fair share of problems with my 2004 Malibu maxx lt with 4 steering problem visits to my dealer and still no resolution......does anyone know if chevy corporate would allow me a better discount or credit towards a new Chevy other then the Malibu if I were to trade mine in?
it has 7,000 miles, fully loaded except xm radio, still owe about $18k on the car. i looked at my trade in value and was shocked when i seen it's only around like $18k. wow
the bbb is supposed to mediate with the chevy corporate rep i spoke to and see what they say.
let me know, thanks!

The 2004 Malibu Maxx LT currently has a $5,000 rebate ($3500 standard, plus another $1500 if you finance through GMAC) - the 2005 version will have rebates VERY soon.
A dealer could easily sell a 2004 Malibu Maxx LT with an MSRP of $27,600 for less than $20k - invoice, minus rebates, on a car with the same MSRP is around $19,600, and if the dealer REALLY wants to move it and got into the holdback, could get under $19k - for a NEW one, not one with miles and a title in your name. Even at a 40% depreciation (60% value of new), that's only $11,400...
Domestic vehicles with $5k in rebates have a resale value that drops like an anvil on Jupiter, to quote a longtime Edmunds poster.
This is not the vehicle, regardless of how loaded up it may be, to consider an investment. The Malibu is regularly a $3-4k "back of book" car because they're flooded in the market and are in every rental car fleet in the nation.
I'm sorry if you don't like what I'm saying, but wasting time being poltically correct and giving group hugs and warm fuzzies isn't my style. I help consumers by providing accurate and factual, right on/today information.
thanks but i think your a little off. and you are wrong. i'm not offended by someone who has the right to their own opinion.
thanks anyway!
Let's take that $9k that Edmunds depreciates your vehicle and apply it to real world numbers, like the $19,600 I could buy a carbon-copy of your car for (right now, today) - that makes yours a $10,000 car - I don't understand where you think I'm wrong, and it certainly doesn't hurt my feelings.
I'm trying to save you some hurt feelings and some curse words when you walk into a dealership expecting $18-19k for a used car that you can buy NEW for $19k...
They may overallow and use the rebate and all that to fudge the numbers to SHOW you that much money, but real money ACV is around $12k, perhaps $13k if you end up with an uninformed import dealer's used car manager.
again no hard feelings. find me a used car ad or dealer that shows the same features that i have at around $19k and i guess i can believe it then.
but overall you are saying that edmunds.com is wrong on how they price a used car?
Real depreciation is usually not that bad, but the "official" number is pegged to MSRP. So $16k would not surprise me, not when there's $5k in rebates floating around.
Like drift said, $27 and change sticker; $25 invoice, $5k rebates with GMAC financing -- sounds like a $20 car brand-spanking new to me.
Of course, if I bought it, I'd subtract another $2k because the General just increased my GM Card rebate by $1,500 for no good reason at all and told me to go buy something nice... What I'm saying is that GM is hurting really badly, and that they are pushing their iron really hard, and that it's hurting resale in a big way.
It's not like I'm happy about it... I bought a Vibe last year; $18,3 sticker, paid $14 OTD, and it's now worth $11 on trade on its very best day.... and the Vibe is a really nice little car that is selling fairly well... the depreciation on a Malibu is going to be even worse.
All that said, I think a Maxx would be a fairly easy sale on the street, so the numbers there look a little better.. but didn't you say "4 trips to the dealer and no resolution"? Sounds like a potential lemon law candidate to me... drift can help with the legalese there...
Good luck,
-Mathias
They really want to sell it, so sell it at invoice at around $41,200, minus the $4,000 rebate, the additional $1,000 for using Ford Credit, plus $500 in dealer cash, and you're buying a $45k truck for $35,700 - please don't think that these radical incentives HELP resale value.
Kelley trade shows the rig, with 5,000 miles, in excellent condition, at $25,275 - because of their market status, though, these things go for $22-23k at auction -
That's a 50% hit from MSRP. It's not just your vehicle, it's EVERY domestic vehicle with huge rebates. 12 years and the business and 20,000 vehicles bought and sold confirms these trends.
Something else to bear in mind that has been repeated ad nasuem - these are "real world" trade values. Depending on the book you look in, and how you add up stuff that doesn't count, you can make a trade value look GREAT.
The problem is that books don't buy vehicles, Edmunds doesn't buy vehicles, the lady at the credit union who said it was worth $xx,000 doesn't buy vehicles - PEOPLE buy vehicles, and usually a used car manager, if you're dealing with a dealership. That manager has the boss's checkbook in his hand, and has to be smart and base his decision on current market trends. If he screws up, the dealer eats it, and he doesn't have that cool job anymore...
Books don't buy vehicles...
Now, I did go test drive this Benz last night:
'00 32K miles E320 Gold on tan. All standard loaded stuff with the slider. Seems to be "in the wrapper," but, for some reason, no CD player???
Any idea what the price is on this in NJ, Terry? Dealer is asking $19,995.
I found myself not really "smitten" with this car, though, and really think I'd be mad at myself if I traded my Volvo for it.
So, having said that, I want to go check out some used S80 T6s and see how those feel. So, could you give me a realistic number on the following:
'01 T6 38K miles. Blue over grey. Usual loaded up stuff. No bun warmers and no Nav. Price is $17,495, which seems low? But, that's why I'm here asking about it.
AND, while we're at it, what would an '00 T6 just like it go for?
As always, thanks.

You made a trade-off in purchasing a car with incentives and high depreciation. You were betting you would keep it long enough that the high depreciation wouldn't matter, in exchange for a low purchase price. If you are having repeated steering problems with the car, your best bet financially is to keep it and file for lemon law.
I have had the vehicle for about a year and have had nothing but problems. I have replaced the timing belt/ water pump, passanger axil, rear brakes and rotors, and two engine seals have been replaced. My car is also making terrible sqeeking noises which I assume may be my shock going. Recently, I had the car inspected and was told that I now need a head gasket (which I was told by my mechanic would run about 1,000-1,200. to replace).
The exterior of the car is in relatively good condition, with the except of some rust around one of the wheel wells.
The interior is in great condition. There is only a small area where the leather is worn on the back seat (probably from a baby seat). Other than that it is extremely clean inside.
I would like to know, based on my cars current condition, what it is currently worth. Would I be better off trading it in or selling it on my own. Could you please let me know the value of both.
Thank you so much for your help.
Cos
These price drops happen for several reasons - another example is the Corvette Z06, that came out with 375 hp, then the next year, it had 405...trashed the value of the 375 versions, really made some Vette owners mad...
Thanks for input
since i've had my fair share of problems with my 2004 Malibu maxx lt with 4 steering problem visits to my dealer and still no resolution......do you know if chevy corporate would allow me a better discount or credit towards a new Chevy other then the Malibu if I were to trade mine in?
Depending on the severity, lemon law action may be a good way to go - even though you hurt my feelings, got mad at me and told I was "wrong", e-mail me and I'll talk to you more about that -
It is a $5,000 ASKING vehicle down retail road, so the $3,000 ACV is about right (your low miles are putting it higher than the $2,500 expected for the truck). Make sure you are getting the best price on the new vehicle though.
Your best bet is ebay, so you can get some Southern buyer prospects....I think it would do you good by going that route. You'll likely close to double that $3k bid from the dealer...
how do i get regional rep info btw if you still think i should do that?
