I have to trade this one in for a minivan (Honda); 3 baby on the way. What should I expect private party? Does a car this new sell private?
What should a trade value be? There is a large dealer in the area that sell Honda and Saab. would they be more likely to pay me more?
I owe $20500 on it.
Thank you sooo much.

In Beantown .. doesn't Teresa Heinz have a husband that lives there or something ..?
Anyway ....... we are stairing down the hood of a 04 Saab 9-3 Linear, color is good for the area, low low miles, wheels, cold pack and Bang - it's a handshaker (did I read that right.?) .. no hits no runs no errors.? .. then trade side, in and around the mid/tall $15's, low $16's maybe .. the miles save it, but that friggin' meat clever is going to kill ya ... definitely , you need to going to an import dealer, especially a Saab dealer, lets hope he's not stairing out the window at 6 months of inventory ....
Let me know .......!

After Shopping for the CLK, Porsche Cayenne, now I am serisouly looking at 2002 Jag S-type, if you can appraiser for me again.
2002 Jag S-Type V6
29,000 miles.
Platinum Exterio/Black interior
Jaguar Select Edition
Major option- Sports Package
Navigation
Sunroof
Premium stero system
It's a certifed Select Edition, so everything's in a very good shape. The list price is $29,900, without bargaining they offered $27,900, Edmund's appraiser has about the range too, but there're a lot of S-types out there with very aggressive prices, what do you think I should try to accomplish? $26,500?
(That should get us a warning for off topic posts, and blank stares from anyone born before the Carter administration...)
She is still wanting a cheap car to have as back up and to get her through until she gets the wreck, oops, I mean Subaru back. How about this one?
1996 Oldsmobile Ciera SL sedan, blue/blue, pwr stuff, 3.1L V6/auto, clean car, good tires, looks good for its age/miles. Oh and the miles 41k, yup that's 41,000 miles. Looks well cared for. Nissan dealer (the GM has got to be tired of seeing me) has it for $3850, GM said I could have it for $2500 OTD. What sayeth the great one??
Drove the 64k 96 Protege today, nice car, but something is bugging me about it. I told Mom to go drive them both tomorrow and go from there.
$2500 is a fair price if everything checks out. Decent gas mileage for a 6 cyl. The Ciera is a good get around car, relatively safe and large, a good set of tires and it will go anywhere (well almost). They are good cars if you take car of them. I've seen several with 150K or more on the clock as long as the intake manifold gasket didn't blow the engine.
now for the friend . his son totaled his 03 Isuzu Rodeo sport 2-dr. 11k miles, auto,2wd, silver , 2 sun roofs, 3.2 v6, all power goodies. this truck was extremely well kept, covered, hovered, garaged ,no dings scratches.very good shape overall. What would be a fair price for him to accept from his insurance co in this total loss situation. thanks in advance, dweller
"a former saab owner"
*you're assessment of the situation sounds better than what I actually anticipate. I bet Terry will have a more somber view of things....*
It's a nice looking truck on the outside, especially with the offroad package, but the inside is very plain. Nice seat fabric, but that's it.
That's a good deal on a Ciera. Most of the 1996 Cieras that I see with 60-80k that are half way decent are going for close to $2800 here in Chicago. As long as you do not buy the 4-cyl, you will generally be happy. Ditto the other comments.
There are two other things. First, the interior cloth does not hold up to a lot of abuse - it is really cheap. Second, make sure that the blower fan works. That is not such a big deal here in Chicago where it rarely gets below -10F.
I am looking at trading that '05 Dodge Caravan w/ 25,000 miles(insert gasp here)for either a 2005 Jeep Liberty or 2004/2005 Jeep Wrangler. I'm still trying to decide between the two. I like the Wrangler a bit more because I think it would take New Mexico better and be more sturdy. Plus, it might be easier with my dog.
Got any input on resale values or advice?
Thanks,
Nick
She also went and drove the 64k 96 Protege, she put her finger on what was bugging me. The car is stiff and I don't mean a little bit. I couldn't figure it out last night, but now that she mentions it that's what it was. The steering is stiff, the clutch is stiff, the shifter is stiff, the brakes, everything. So, its a pass.
The search continues......actually, this is kinda fun, keeps me outta trouble.
That's my other weakness, besides cars...
That wouldn't go over very well with the Cowboys having a Steeler fan as one of their cheerleaders.
Anyway, THANKS for your "appraisal" of my car. I did a bunch of research and decided that I didn't want the hassle of selling my car, fixing the dent/scratches and trying to keep it ultra clean with all the rain we have been having. So...I talked the dealer into giving me 8k for it. I told them I wanted 8.5-9k and they first came back with 6.5. I laughed and so they said 7k. I said, "well, then I can't buy the new car until I sell mine." So...they came back with 8k. I knew that was a good deal and I was also saving the tax from buying the new car. I got a 2005 Honda Pilot EX-L with a few added accessories for $29,797 minus my trade of $8,000. A pretty good deal, I think.
I just love the internet!
Thanks again!!!!
Cheryl

It's the 3.0 ...... miles are right, color is good for the area, nav, sport stuff and we have the CPO .. do we know if this was a trade or bought at the auction.?
$26,500 seems about right ...
Terry.
Anyway, I checked out the Galves pricing on it, but wanted to see how accurate they are compared to the real world.
'03 Nissan 350Z 6-speed touring model w/ 20K miles. Dark silver color.
Does Navigation add any value?
And, if you could, what would a similar Enthusiast model bring at the block?
Thanks a mill.

The resale values are "about" the same ... I would guess (and I do mean guess) that Wranglers would sell a little easier out in Armadillo country ...
The most important thing is, you need to drive them both, put some miles on them - your hills, your rocks, your conditions, your Armadillo's .... as one stupid person keeps on saying: Always buy and drive what YOU like ...........
Terry.

Miles are low, the color is right .. if we have no paint by numbers, service is all there, no rubber/wheel issues .. then it's a $19ish driver, some dealer somewhere might stagger towards the $20 figure if it's jam-up puuuurfect, glows in the dark and it needs -0- .......... what are they asking.?
Terry.
So... If its about $20K for a Touring model, any thoughts on an Enthusiast model with the right color and low miles?
Thanks very much!

What say you O-Sage-of-car-lot?
Thats a great price .!
"If" you've been living in Guatemala and you've been driving around in a Ford F150 for the last 20 years ...... $22,9 ~ and $23,9 if you can't live without it ....... $27.?? I think thats based on the conversion rate between Boston and Bulgaria ..
The Touring models are worth "around" $2grandish more ...
PS: the Enthusiast model is the least expensive, dealers are paying around that $19ish figure .... the Touring model is seeing around the $21ish figure ~ so figure $24ish and $25ish if you can't live without it ...
Terry.
Terry ;^}
*It's a certifed Select Edition, so everything's in a very good shape*
I wouldn't necessarily assume that. I've read horror stories of people who bought "certified" used vehicles, & later found out there had been previous body or paint damage, still had brake problems, etc. The "certified" moniker only goes so far.......& 29K miles on an '02 isn't exactly super-low miles. If there's a ton of used S-types out there, & that's what you really want, I'd try to get a lower mileage one myself.
However, I think I remember Terry a few posts back suggesting a reliable Japanese vehicle in your price range (?). That would be my thinking......
Terry.
OH, by the way, the Enthusiast is actually one step up. There is a plain old base model 350Z (probably pretty rare, though). And I would be inclined to buy a brand new one if only that base model came with Traction Control (I'd get it for $25K with my secret handshake discount), but, alas, I have to step up to the higher model to get the traction control. AS always ... decisions decisions!

'03 Audi A4 Avant, 1.8T, sport and premium packages, silver over black cowskins, 23,500 miles, CPO, at a small Audi dealer located in a snooty New Jersey town. The detail that makes it weird....meatcleaver between the seats. Listed at 26,995. Me thinks they own it for between 20-21, add 1k for the CPO, plus some mark-up, and it could be had in the $24's? Terry, what you say?
I can't believe I'm finding a used Audi attractive, but this one has warranty out the wazoo, and the football mom in the household that holds the checkbook just might go for a cool wagon.
1996 Oldsmobile Ciera SL sedan, 3.1L V6/auto, 41k miles, pwr stuff, blue/blue, good tires. Looks to be well cared for and is in good shape for its age/miles. Dealer is asking $3850, but GM said I could have it for $2500 OTD (Nissan dealer has it).
Subaru is supposed to be back in a couple/3 weeks, $8157 is the number, OUCH!
OTOH, I'd definitely do a CarFax on the Ciera, seeing as how you guys drive 80 miles to the supermarket, I'm a bit skeptical to hear of a nine year-old anything with 41k. I actually have kind of a soft spot for those and Centurys, they're cheap to buy and fix, comfy, roomy and get great highway (~30) MPG for a V6. Pretty good in snow, too.
I live in Tulsa OK now...they live in NW Arkansas...the Bentonville, Rogers, Fayetteville area...home of the Wal-Mart HQ. So take your pick.
I will be sitting quietly in my room until I can come out to play...........
As for the Ciera we will drive it tomorrow and go from there.
I've found another car to look at:
1996 Corolla, 5-speed, black/grey, 124k, good shape mechanically, has a dent in the pass side front door but otherwise ok. Lady is asking $3k, going to look at it tomorrow.
I've done a lot of researches on the S-type, and I know it ain't cheap to maintain the car and I've read a lot of horror stories in the forum, but then again, if you go to other European brand forums, everyone just complains and complains about their MBZ, BMW, or Audi.
I think what's important is that I love the car and I know I can afford to buy/maintain the car.
Terry- thanks for all the advices, the dealership asked where I came up with the number and I actually referred to you... thanks again!
But like the others have mentioned, have it checked out real close - low miles doesn't guarantee anything, especially in such a harsh enviorement .. besides, you don't have the best of luck with vehicles ...............
Terry.
Great .. I get enough derogatory email now ......
Enjoy.!
Terry.
Pics are nice, but they won't show the frame damage or how someone did a little cut and snip on the reconstruction ..... this vehicle was totaled and the ins co. paid off the previous owner and/or they settled for "X" amount of bucks on a partial recon .... anyway, stay away from it unless you can buy it for .25cts on the dollar, even then, most banks won't lend the money and most insurance companies won't insure them ..
Terry.
Maybe I'm being naive... but I really think that for smart dealers, it's good to have informed customers.
The information you give out here makes people not overpay, that's true... but it also makes them buy with confidence, and not be afraid to step up to the plate. Take my buddy who bought the Solara last fall... you even gave him the auction price for that exact vehicle, from TN. He paid $1,500 or so over that and was happy. The dealer didn't get to retire on the deal, but he moved a car and took in some bucks, what's not to like.
GOOD INFORMATION MAKES PEOPLE BUY CARS.
So I don't see what the fuss is about. Sounds shortsighted to me.

and when you find them, can you pick up 20 or 30 of them for us???
MAYBE an enthusiast, but a touring w/nav grabs closer to the $23.5-$24k range around here.
Since you came back with such a low number on my not-yet-paid-off Saab 9-3, what about my 2001 Highlander? I rather keep the Toyota (since it's paid-off) and trade in the Saab to have only one car payment. The only issue I see is NOT having AWD.
