a 1999 Honda Accord EX 4-door, 4 cylinder, in metallic beige with tan leather; auto, leather seats, moonroof, single cd player, alloy wheels
10,000 (ten thousand) miles.
Looks great. Had some small body work done (no crashes, but some small dents and scratches fixed) by a really good body shop - perfect paint match. If I didn't tell you, you wouldn't be able to tell, but I will tell the buyer, and I will probably sell it to a friend who knows its history. Tires are original Michelin and with minimal and even wear. No mechanical problems and no more dents or dings.
What might a dealer offer, and what do you think it's worth in a private sale?
mldj98, you might have explained this in a previous post... but, why were you wanting to get rid of the Civic? I know the Accord is bigger, but you only had 400 miles on the Civic... just curious????...

Hey Terry- I'm wondering where you'd hit this bad boy, private party retail:
Ready for it?
'89 Mercedes 300E. Auto, of course, factory phone still works (does anyone even offer analog cell phone service anymore?) White over red leather (NOT MB Tex...at this age, I wish it were) 225k miles, very good cosmetic condition; needs a blower motor to be 100%. Don't answer if you've got a whole bunch of reposts to catch up on; I've got a friend selling this and I have been contenplating picking it up to keep the miles off the S70, since there's a good chance my commute will increase significantly here soon (also, it'd be a fun car to tear apart and and annoy Mrs. Lance by its very presence.) Whatya think?
Miles are a deal breaker on that one---$3,500 to $4,000 should be more than enough, and before I bought it I would check the cost to replace the blower motor---they might have to hand grenade it out of there on a Benz.
Good car though. Best Benz ever IMO. Too bad about the miles--at 225K car is on borrowed time.
Hi Terry, I recently picked up a Tundra, but I am not really happy with it (its just to big). I am wondering if I can get out of it without getting killed on it. The details are 2005 Tundra access cab, auto, 4.3 v8, 17" wheels, the bench seat upgrade, limited slip diffrential, tow pkg, all weather pkg, fog lamps, floor mats-- It has 2,500 miles and is desert sand mica located in Phoenix. Origional msrp was 27,079. I took the low lease factor instead of the rebate (mistake now). What do you think a dealer would give to me for it on trade? Thanks ==============================
Too Big ...? compared to what, a Mini ......?
Whats your pay-off.? .... It's a lease, tuff situation to be in .. you gotta own it to sell it and you don't have the title, but you might be able to trade it depending on the buy-out ...
hope I haven't offended in any way.... Terry, please evaluate the following for trade-in. Tucson, AZ 2003 Toyota Highlander NON Limited V6 2wd 26,000 miles Gold/ ivory cloth interior From the orig Monroney: .. Roof rack, moonroof, tow prep, tow hitch, alloy wheels (5), mud guards, privacy glass, keyless entry, tonneau cover, 8 way power drivers seat, homelink, engine immobilizer, carpet/cargo mat set, rear spoiler. Added: auto-dimming rear view mirror w/compass, fog lights This vehicle has been well cared for: oil changed every 4-5k, tires rotated (5) waxed every 6 months, garaged, no dents scratches, tires are orig, but appear to have about 10,000 miles left (est) still decent amount of tread showing. Brakes? orig 4 wheel disc. Most miles have been highway, so I bet over 50% left on brakes.. no bodywork or ins claims. Also, even tho it has tow stuff, it has never towed anything. Thanks, Jeff =============================
Mornin' Jeff ..... nope, not offended about anything - I'm just sloooooow ..
Believe it or not, I "scan" a bunch of the posts on Edmunds just to see whats going on and laugh at the "gossip" and the made-up stories .. but I try to *read* every little word before I drop a post .. besides, I'm not the fastest printer person on the planet or the best speller, plus I have the attention span of aspharugus ... so reposting is a good thing ..l.o.l.....
All righty then ...... excellent description - tanks ... at the home of the Tucson Open we have a 03 Yota Highlander (non-limited) it's a serviced 2wd, V6, 26k short miles, right color for any area, we got the rack and the slider, solar glass, flaps, seats, etc, sounds nice .......... if it's as nice as you "think" it is, no paint by numbers, no interior drama, no I dragged my golf clubs over the bumper 200 times .. then trade side, in and around the super tall $17's, maybe the low/mid $18's if it's a "baby doll" and it needs -0- .......
Don't forget the update ...............................
Well to sum it up we just plain made a boo...boo... We were looking at both cars and decided we could live (or so we thought) with the Civic...but after a total of 2 kids (1 car seat) and 3 adults later we ran out of room reeeeeaaaalllllll fast. Stroller, diaper bags, and other accessories later we were spent...now don't get me wrong...the civic is an outstanding car and maybe later in life when we don't have to carry so much baby crap me might go ahead and get another one just for giggles...plus after loading the whole family clan inside for an outing it didn't have that zip I needed....127 hp is fine for the daily runs...put loaded up with stuff...not so zippy... We discussed it and said to ourselves, if we can get out of this car without completely loosing our shorts then we would go for it...the opportunity came along for a fairly good deal and so we decided to take the leap, cut our losses and move on!!! SInce I will be retiring from the military in about a year we decided it was now or never to do this thing...and if you noticed my previous posts on the deal we got then it was not such a bad deal...Since I work at this big military command you would be surprised how many people are selling 2005 auto's for whatever reasons... Minivans...Volvo's...Jeeps...the lists goes on...so if nothing else I know that I am not the only one who buys a new car and then sells it in the same model year! By the way...the V6 Accord we bought....halls balls!!!!
P.S. Terry...can I still bum that smoke? I was told you had the duty pack!! )
Oh, good, thanks...I can pick it up for half that. I figured I'd tear the dashboard apart myself and replace the motor. The part averages ~$250 on eBay, and I shudder to think about labor costs.
Terry, still looking for a trade value here. Will start looking soon.
Thanks, llepky ---------- Terry,

I am getting out of my 2002 Jetta and have seen big differences in my research concerning the trade in value or resale value. Any "real world" numbers I can expect would be appreciated. Details: '02 GLS Jetta, black, tan cloth, 2.0L, 42,000 miles, CD/cassette, Monsoon, cold weather package, moonroof, alloy wheels, a few very minor scratches with a small nick in the back bumper, not a single door ding or dent anywhere, interior is in excellent condition (only had people sitting in back on 2 or 3 occasions). Tires are about half way through their time, drivers side front quarter panel was replaced due to someone backing into it, all work done by VW, the problem with the power windows that many of the Jettas had has already been fixed, all maint. records kept. Wanting to know what I can expect selling privately as well as a trade. I have a very good relationship with the dealer I am intending to buy from (not VW) but still want to get a realistic number. Thanks!

Hi Terry....any input as to my trade-in value? Also, I'm thinking of buying a used SUV in its place but I don't have a good idea how to initiate a reasonable offer. Is it feasible to use the SUV's trade-in value +500-800 for dealer profit? There seems to be a huge spread between most used cars and the asking price.

Sorry, forgot the state. I had listed the color (black) but forgot my state - Missouri. I live in St, Louis if that had any affect. Thanks for getting back so quickly!
don't make these guys sort through a dozen posts on two pages to find the information. Repost with everything he needs all in one place. The format is at the bottom of the screen.

Great service - thanks! I'll be looking to trade in this car before the end of June, any idea on value?
2002 Honda CRV EX Minneapolis-St Paul 4 dr AWD SUV 28,000 miles Silver exterior, gray interior Standard EX stuff: e.g. sunroof, 6 CD changer, automatic Full, perfect maintenance history Great condition, just a door ding or two on the passenger side Small scrape on right-hand side rear panel was repaired and looks as good as new
I'll be trading it to a Honda dealer for an Odyssey, so I assume they'll keep it and re-sell it themselves.
Exterior: Overall very good, 1 small dent in front left quarter panel, handful of small scratches, mostly on rear bumper. Some pitting on lower (plastic) under doors from tar, etc. More than average tar in front right wheelwell. No wrecks or bodywork done.
Interior: Also good, with exception of center console top - my dog likes to prop up there and this would probably need to be fixed/replaced. There a few small punctures and one about the size of a pencil eraser with a bit of stuffing peeking out.
Tires: Original. Need to be replaced. These were great tires, can't see top of Lincoln's head yet. Brakes: Still on original pads. Need to be replaced. Maintenance: basically good, oil changed every 5, tires rotated every other change, had a "30K" checkup at 36, so due at 66. Has had all recommended recall work.
Also, if you don't mind an additional question, is it worth it to buy new tires, have pads replaced, etc. before trading in? I always was told it was cheaper for the dealer to it so there's no point in putting money into it.
1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 2wd 4.0 Automatic, Miami, Fl.
over 152K miles
dented front passenger quarter panel, dented rear passenger quarter panel, dented underneath passenger door. New (old) different color rear bumper, cracked front grill (small), some paint chipping. front tires old, very bad alignment feeling (even though I just had it aligned)
Car idles rough, exhaust leak somewhere, burns map sensors/tp sensors, ignition coils and stalls out.
New water pump, shocks, 2 new tires, 2 bad ones
I don't know what to do, $600 these last two weeks to try and fix it, it's becomeing a waste of money, and I don't have the money to waste.
What do you think I can get for it?
P.S. the drivers seat leather is ripped. I'm trying to give all the bad info so i can get a more honest real world quote.
should I just fix the sensors again, and go sell it to a dealer, or try to fix it and sell it on the street??
Hi Terry, I have an 04 Accord EX V6 Sedan in Tucson, AZ. 17000 mi, gold exterior/tan interior. The car is in pretty good shape. Regular maintenance done. What should I expect for trade in or sell it myself? thanks.

In Viking territory .... we have a 02 CRV EX with tiny miles .. we have the right color, right tranny, right model and you say the service is 100% with no time spent at Maaco ...... these little dudette's still get stupid money, so if the rubber is deep and the breeze is cold .. then trade side, you should be seeing seeing the mid/high $14's, maybe the low low low low low $15's if it's perfect and it needs -0- ......

If the sneakers haven't snuck away, you haven't bounced it off any of the PA turnpikes toll booths .. then trade side, in and around the low/mid $17's, might "maybe" get a dealer to wander towards the $18 figure, big maybe ..... I probably buy 10/15 of these a month (mostly for Ford employee's) these are a great purchase on the pre-owned side, not such a good idea on the new side ..... what's your pay-off.?? ..

No offense, but if you have insurance on this one, it sounds like maybe you should just *leave* it on the street Seriously, with all those problems, I can't imagine any dealer giving you more than a few bills out of courtesy.. or sympathy.. It's a wholesale piece and only the bottom feeders are gonna want this one, like Uncle Louies CarZ on E. 55th st in Cleveland. If the 4WD works, you could always hold out for winter, at least you can show some value with that to a potential buyer?

Terry---well, I did neglect to mention to you (to keep it simple) that the date of loss on this vehicle was Dec. 2004, so about 6 months ago...so basically I agree with your number (I beleive you stretched it out to about $12.9K) as of THIS date but I did try to compensate for the 6 months, and came up with $15,100. I also took into account superb condition and a San Francisco zip code.
So whaddya think of all that reasoning? Fair enough to everybody?

It's ready for sale.
The only difference being the difference, we are at $14,275. Should I be here on the computer, or over there making this happen?
Are you saying they are offering you $8,700 trade on your car? That's not bad. Are you considering at least a $1,000 deduct on miles and the retail of around $11K-12K?

Okay...I owe you then...thanks! maybe I can help you with values on really weird or exotic cars...I'm good at that....
$13.9 eh? I guess I'm being a mite generous at $15.1K but you know if you consider all the money it takes to even get to arbitration (pay appraiser, then pay referee, then pay appraiser to represent you to referee) , at $15.1K the person is breaking even as if he had taken the $14K they offered him in the first place. So no harm done..it's a wash for everyone except the arbitrators and appraisers, who have a tidy little business going. :P
... **if you consider all the money it takes to even get to arbitration (pay appraiser, then pay referee, then pay appraiser to represent you to referee) , at $15.1K the person** ...
Ya know .. I had this stupid funny feelin' there was some type "arbitration" thing going on ..l.o.l... these things get Arb'ed more times than Joan Rivers has had face lifts ...... if this is an Arb thing, then somebody could very well might see $15ishishishish, in and around --- if ya know what I mean..... find a Oct/November Nada book ...

Kinda like a Integra .. what will kill this one, it's Canadian ... but, it's old enough to recover -if- it's super nice and super clean with a great history, it gets no help from the color and the miles are low for the year and it probably needs a visit to the dent Doctor ...... trade side.? a dealer will just send to the auction (long Maple leaf stories make for short sales) so you might see $2,500, maybe $3,0 on a reeeally good day, maybe ........
Me personally.? I would send it down Retail Rd .. because you're good friends with the orginal owner, you know the deal and have all the history ... finish any service, get with the "dent doctor", then get a superb detail - have them put a nice gold pinstripe on it to break-up the BRG, take some great pics for the Orlando Sentinel web site and drop-in a super Ad, and $6,495 *asking* and cut this baby loose at the first $4,9/$5,9 ...... properly done it won't last long, you'll get someone from UCF, Disney World or the Shuttle Crew to snatch it up .... don't get greedy, it's Canadian, not a Corum ........
Happy hunting, and don't forget to let me know what happens - or I'll send the posse after ya ....

Good description -- tanks.!
In the land of the golden arches ... in this case, in the land of the arch ..
We have an 02 Jetta 4 banger GLS with 42k ... we got the auto (thats a good thing), the miles are low (thats a better thing), we got the slider (it keeps getting better), we have some Moron tunes, cold pack, wheels, had a kiss to the Port side due to a small meteorite hit (not a good thing), the color combo is good for the area and you say the service and records are a 100% ........ if the body work wasn't done by Helen Keller, you haven't dragged your briefcase all over the trunk lid, you haven't been going those $2.00 car washes and the breeze is on the Polar mode ... then trade side, in and around the low/mid $9's, might maybe see a dealer venture towards the $10,0 figure with the proper alignment between Mars and Jupiter ....
Retail Rd.? .. lot's of Jetta's for sale right now and Tons of these running thru the auctions, but that doesn't mean you can sell one - properly done .. dealers are scooping them up, so that means folks are buying them .. super clean, super Ad, super nice at $12,900 *asking* and wave bye bye at $11,5/$12,5 .............
Good luck, let me know and may the Force be with you.!
No idea on the value, but how did you get it registered in the US without replacing the gauges?
Seems like there is no requirement to replace gauges. The only requirement to bring it across was a letter from Honda stating that the vehicle passes US EPA standards. Other than that, registration only required payment of sales taxes in FL. I've owned it since new, BTW.

Went for $23,000 after 8 days on Autotrader.
Thanks again! The new owner is happy with the vehicle, and the condition REALLY helped it.
I'm wondering where you'd hit this bad boy, private party retail:

From the orig Monroney: .. Roof rack, moonroof, tow prep, tow hitch, alloy wheels (5), mud guards, privacy glass, keyless entry, tonneau cover, 8 way power drivers seat, homelink, engine immobilizer, carpet/cargo mat set, rear spoiler.
Added: auto-dimming rear view mirror w/compass, fog lights
This vehicle has been well cared for: oil changed every 4-5k, tires rotated (5) waxed every 6 months, garaged, no dents scratches, tires are orig, but appear to have about 10,000 miles left (est) still decent amount of tread showing. Brakes? orig 4 wheel disc. Most miles have been highway, so I bet over 50% left on brakes.. no bodywork or ins claims.
Also, even tho it has tow stuff, it has never towed anything.
Thanks,
Jeff

Terry.
Leather, power moonroof, V8, 3rd row seat, running boards, tow pkg, single cd/am/fm, "sport package"(not sure what that means). Super-clean.
Your help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Great service - thanks! I'll be looking to trade in this car before the end of June, any idea on value?
2002 Honda CRV EX
Minneapolis-St Paul
4 dr AWD SUV
28,000 miles
Silver exterior, gray interior
Standard EX stuff: e.g. sunroof, 6 CD changer, automatic
Full, perfect maintenance history
Great condition, just a door ding or two on the passenger side
Small scrape on right-hand side rear panel was repaired and looks as good as new
I'll be trading it to a Honda dealer for an Odyssey, so I assume they'll keep it and re-sell it themselves.
Thanks!
2002 Mazda Tribute LX - 2WD, Gray/Gray, V6
Milage: 61,000
Ocala, FL
Thanks, Carol
over 152K miles
dented front passenger quarter panel, dented rear passenger quarter panel, dented underneath passenger door.
I'm trying to give all the bad info so i can get a more honest real world quote.
should I just fix the sensors again, and go sell it to a dealer, or try to fix it and sell it on the street??
please help

In Viking territory .... we have a 02 CRV EX with tiny miles .. we have the right color, right tranny, right model and you say the service is 100% with no time spent at Maaco ...... these little dudette's still get stupid money, so if the rubber is deep and the breeze is cold .. then trade side, you should be seeing seeing the mid/high $14's, maybe the low low low low low $15's if it's perfect and it needs -0- ......

In the land of the Heinz stadium ...... we have an 04 Exploder XLT 4wd V8 .. good color for anywhere, slider, 3rd seat, miles are almost low, sport pack, boards, tunes, tow pack, cow seats and you think it's pretty nice .....
If the sneakers haven't snuck away, you haven't bounced it off any of the PA turnpikes toll booths .. then trade side, in and around the low/mid $17's, might "maybe" get a dealer to wander towards the $18 figure, big maybe ..... I probably buy 10/15 of these a month (mostly for Ford employee's) these are a great purchase on the pre-owned side, not such a good idea on the new side ..... what's your pay-off.?? ..

In NJland ...... this is a 00 63k Yota SR5 4wd 4runner .. good color, cloth guts, boards, slider, toy pack .... if you haven't been pulling a 35ft Cafe racer with it and the interior doesn't have that Bonnie and Clyde look, the rubber is deep and you don't have 20 Hershey bars that melted into the carpet .... then trade side, in and around the mid/high $12's, might maybe "could" find a dealer to drop the low low $13's in it ........ what figure were you thinkin..?

Memphis, have you seen Elvis lately ..?
So you enjoy reading my posts.?? .. we need to all chip in and get you some cable ...
Anywaaaaay .... we got this little Mini convert, (guessing, about a $26ish MSRP.?) we got the BRG color and the two-tone hydes, big tunes, big breeze and we got these 1,200 itty bitty miles ...... trade side, in and around the $22/$23 range ..... the handshaker and the color might taketh away .. being summer and having really low miles might save it, they're getting some strong $$ right now ...
Don't forget to let me know what happens -- it's called an update .!
Terry
Good luck and let me know ......... :lemon:

Terry.
Seems like there is no requirement to replace gauges. The only requirement to bring it across was a letter from Honda stating that the vehicle passes US EPA standards. Other than that, registration only required payment of sales taxes in FL. I've owned it since new, BTW.
