Based on Manheim, I'd say you are looking at wholesale @ $17,000 or so.
A comparable Subaru Impreza WRX wagon would be $1-2000 less.
  • newowner1newowner1 Member Posts: 19
I've been offered between $14500 and $15300 for my 2005 9-2x (10000 miles) Linear; sunroof is the only added option. I didn't pull the trigger on a trade-in for a 2006 Mazda 5 at 300 above invoice because my payments would have increased too much (higher interests rates, more debt).

I purchased the 9-2x for $17,300 before TTL last year. BTW, I noticed a slight increase in price recently when the 9-2x and Imprezas received the highest safety rating from that Insurance Institute.

we paid 16999 for ours...im pretty happy with that price! heck, wholesale? sign me up! :D

we love it so far! driving it like we stole it (hey, we pretty much did!) so the gas mileage isnt as great as we'd like it to be. but the AWD will come in handy during our crazy new england winters! (and this terrible rain we've been having!)

Helping someone at work figure out what to ask for this (private party).

1997 Rodeo, S model. No alloys or roof, but has PWL.
    V6, 4WD, automatic.
    116,000 big clicks.
Seems to be in decent enough shape, new battery, tires 1 YO and look newish.
Overall, shows pretty nice for the age. Runs well enough.
So, overall an average older car.

I was thinking $2,999 or $2,500 asking, take the first offer much over 2K?

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

Hello folks, I stumbled across this forum and it's wealth of informative people and was curious to know what you all think. I traded the following car for a 2006 Passat and they gave me $13500. I thought it might be a little low, but Carmax offered only $12k. Did I get hoodwinked?

    Trade in vehicle is:
    Atlanta, GA
    2004 Honda Accord LX
    4 dr sedan
    4 cylinder auto
    37k miles
    Silver w/gray interior
Stock LX (PW, PD, PM, CD)
Car was in good condition, what you would expect from a 2 year old vehicle that was washed and maintained regularly.

    Thanks much.

    Terry,

It's that light silver color and cleans up real pretty. Hopefully the Nissan dealer will treat me right if that pesky light ever comes on again. Day 2 and no word from them yet, but would rather them keep it till it's really fixed.
Swapped out the Galant for a V6 Sonata this afternoon and am quite impressed with it. Good power and very comfy seats. Let 'em keep the Sentra for all I care now, yet a few folks at work are interested, so we'll see. Hopefully the mileage will improve with the latest fix so I can actually wait on a '07.

To those folks who keep posting the question "did I get a good deal?"
They outline the specifics of their traded vehicle and said I got "X" dollars allowance, on a new car (without giving any details on the new ride).

This is meaningless information....it is the DIFFERENCE that counts. You can get a great trade in allowance, and pay full MSRP on a slow mover...basically getting hosed...but brag about your great trade in price.

    Good point.
    My situation:
Bought 06 Acura TL auto w/o Nav. MSRP = 33,940 including dest.
Negotiated price = 30,300 including dest.

My trade - an 01 Acura TL with 110K miles, in good condition, KBB said $8313 (or something) I got 8300.

I was satisfied with the deal.

Always negotiate the 3 aspects of the deal seperately.
    1. price of car
    2. Trade value
    3. financing

Then you can walk away knowing if the deal you got was good, or not.

Hi jack46....I sure ain't the car value guy...it's Terry.
Every so often he gets his tea leaves read, his stars aligned, his balls (golf) polished...so it may be a while before he gets you the info you need.
I strongly suggest that you check the information required at the bottom of the page so he can get up to speed quickly. The description you have provided is pretty weak.

    Well ................

We got the right color for the area, the miles are kinda ho-hum, we're missin' the Moo seats, we got the hole in the roof and we have some baby K-Mart kisses here and there ....

....up til' now, everything was almost kinda going your way .. then all of sudden (like stabbing yourself with a dinner fork) we got this handshaker ... so, no hydes and a meat clever .. kinda reminds me of telling me I'll have another 2 hour layover in LA ......

*Depending* on the dealer .. you might "maybe" see the mid/tall $16's, because of the area you could get reeeeeall lucky and have someone fall on their sword and drop the low low low low low low $17's in it -- (that's only if they're betting the spread on Michelle Wie making the cut this week .....)

but terry...i like meat cleavers!!! ;)

we paid 16999 for it, so based on your assessment, we did alright for ourselves...(love the car too!) dealer tried to catch us on the back end by padding our payments, but i had none of that. i had called the guy i worked with when i was selling cars, and he ran the numbers for me, and was $17 less a month than this guy was claiming i should have been paying. his face turned bright red when i asked if he had left anything in the back screen (they used ADP just like we did - so i know the stuff)

lo and behold the "rustproofing" that he was so adament we by in the first place never got taken out of the system (or so he says) even though we said we didn't want it. either way, we were polite, and we brought the girl home (4 hour drive each way for this car!)

anyways, any thoughts on the beetle i posted?

    thanks terry! :)

p.s - i didn't negotiate the price at all - they were offering it for 16999, and i just knew that price was killer for the car! all the other ones i see listed out there are priced at 19999 and up! (weren't people buying them NEW with the GM family discount at around 20500 anyways?)

I know you like meat cleavers, that's why you got a "splendid" deal on that dude .... it's not like the dealer had buyers backed up to Boston (I forgot you in the NE) .. that said, the dealers in your area use the Galves book .. so $15ish and some strong change would be more akin' to it ..

    2003 Land Rover Discovery HSE.
    4.6.
    Vienna Green
    Navigation, CD changer, 18' wheels,etc.
    32,000 miles

Overall the truck is in very good condition. I would give it a 7-8 out of 10.
very minor scratch on front bumper and two paint imperfections (chips) about Dime sized in the rear quarters (really not noticeable.)
    No dings whatsoever.
Passenger seat has a small mark in the leather from someones jeans, not ripped at all.

tires are a worn, but legal. (around 10k left in them i would guess)
Truck is fully detailed and showroom clean.

located in Orange County NY. 10917

    very much appreciated.
I have an offer of 20k. as a dealer trade in on a new vehicle.

    thanks!

20,000 sounds a bit low to me but I will bump you for Terry. My thoughts are that the color is hurting it since most people do not like Viennia green and it hurts that it is a not a Seven Passenger. My only question is does it have the ACE(Active Cornering Enhancement) Package?

.... I know you dropped a question back there, somewhere .... something about a buying a new car..?

Yup, imagine that, lol. Anyway, I have a new 06 Ram 3500 QC 4x4 Cummins on order, will be in sometime the end of next month I think. So, if you could drop me some values on these two I'd appreciate it.

04 Titan CC LE 4x4, white/grey leather, only options besides the standard LE goodies is the big tow pkg, bed divider, bed tray, and bed extender. Truck has 51,500 BIG miles on it. Exterior looks all of 51k, road rash, scuffed mirror (thanks to a valet in San Antonio), small crack in the grille (thanks to a big bird), needs tires. Interior cleans up fine, no smells or stains, leather is in great shape.

04 Focus ZX3 base, only option is 4 wheel ABS, 5-speed, no a/c, no pwr anything, am/fm/cd, silver/dark grey. Exterior looks pretty good, some rock chips but nothing major, tires are probably 25%, brakes and clutch are like new. Interior is in great shape, no stains or anything. Windshield is cracked. Oh and 54k miles.

Since I'm driving my 97 Sebring most of the time the miles shouldn't change much on these two. (In case you missed it, the Sebring is my $650 wonder car that I bought from the junkyard, lol)

I think ya overlooked me, Terry...

First off, welcome back Terry. I returned to the forum after about 2 years (used to be spatulaman...I think...I forgot my old login), and you were nowhere to be found!

Anyways...I'm looking at pitching my Taslowma for a Ram SRT-10.

    2001 Tacoma X-tra Cab 4x4 v6
    60k miles
Power windows, locks, mirrors, steering, A/C, cd player, bedliner, sliding rear window, towing package
    Black outside
    Tan inside
    Manual trans
Between good and very good condition, but closer to good than VG
    Houston, TX

    So, what's trade/retail
  • kjacoxkjacox Member Posts: 3
I think this one got lost in the shuffle. I'm interested in a real world trade in value. I'm taking it to CarMax today as well.

    What's realistic for this one:

    Location: Atlanta GA
    2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
4.0 L 6 cyl 4WD (FT, PT and Low Range)
    79K miles
    Red / Black int.
    PS/PB/PW/PDL
CD and Cassette (Infinity system incl. power amp)
    side curtain airbags
    power seats (D & P)
    Only 36K on tires
all fluids replaced at 50K (trans, transfer case & diffs)
    No accidents / body damage

oh yes, wonderful galves! the dealership i worked at here in CT was big on galves...unless we knew the car would be a home run on our lot, everything was galves. our used car guy carried them all around in his front shirt pocket all the time. our sales manager would try to put the number on it without looking at galves, and guess to see how the used car manager would come in for trade in value...

anyways, i was happy with the deal whether it was good, or average. it fit our budget, and it fits our needs! (i was just amazed at the price, considering everyone else out there is trying to sell them used with 20k miles and up for 19999 and up.) i tried contacting some of the other dealers to see if they could get closer to 18 (which i thought was more than fair) and they said no. then comes this little guy at 16999 and it wasnt on the website more than a day before we bought it.

anyways, thanks again! and keep up the good (and entertaining) work!

.... Like I said, you got an excellent deal on it (CPO.?) ..

.. lets get Galves here .. let's say they dropped $15,5/$15,9 into it ... after some service, a this and that, it probably hit the table for in and around the $16,5ish region .. you paid $16,900 ..... the new Taylor Made R7 460cc driver is $399, add a pair of the new Adidas 360 golf shoes in there for $180 and he lost $$ ... nobody got rich on this deal ..l.o.l....

I love to watch the NE dealers come to the auctions for the first time .. they break out that Galves book and you have to rush them off nurse's station from all of the paper cut's .....

    Long time lurker..??

I did that for awhile, then they caught me and put me in jail for 3 months and paid a big fine ....

Sounds like it might be a nice one (not a "T", right.?) .... the miles are low low low, the color is right right right, we got them bun warmers, new round things .. forget the Nav, you can buy a Garmin for $290 and find the nearest Golfsmith or Edwin Watts in 3 seconds ...

If ..... it's really a nice one, no paint by numbers, cold breeze, the seats look hovered in and the service is 110% ... then trade side, in and around the mid $6's, might "maybe" even see a dealer wander towards the tall $6's low low $7's if it's a baby doll and it glows in the dark and it needs -0- .....

Personally John, I would send this dude down Retail Rd ... nice car and loooow miles, so get a superb detail, finish any service, get some super shots in and out, drop a superb 5/6 liner Ad in the Cinci/Dayton/Columbus papers (and their online service) and $10,490 *asking* and let someone insult me at $9,5/$9,9 - but take it .... ... my guess.? it last's less than 5 days and Mom puts $9,700 into the "Hip National Bank" ....

Don't forget to let me know .....!!

    Hi Terry,

    thanks for the quick response.

Yeah this is a nice one. :shades:

Went with Mom to the dealership to buy it in late 98 as a 99 model.

I was guessing before doing any checking that it was a $5K to $6K car (wholesale)but Kelly Blue Book has it at selling in the 12's (retail) and dealers in Cincy are advertising 2000 (couldn't find any 1999's for sale) I30's with 60 - 70 K mileage at $14995. Why the discrepancy?

    Thanks again for your help!

    John in Dayton
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I've been following the Ohio market on these and don't see much of a discrepancy here (although your stated numbers do seem a bit high for Columbus). Roughly speaking, a '99 should be worth about $2000 less than a 2000. A dealer asking price on an '00 of 15K translates to roughly a 13K asking price on a '99 with selling price in the (low) 12s retail, matching KBB. A private party sale will yield a lower number. Generally, cars seem priced a tad higher in Cincinnati than Columbus which is, in turn, a bit more than Cleveland.

The low mileage should enable you to sell this one quick privately IF it's priced fairly.

    Hello,
I own a 1998 Ford Expedition and was wondering if you could give a trade in value...

This beauty is white (XLT) only 82,000 miles. I'm the third owner so millage is great for vehicle. It is a rural driver out in the Boondocks... used to working hard... has the 4.6L Triton engine, 4 speed automatic, 4x4, am/fm/6-disk factory changer, No rear air ...i think that was really stupid for Ford to do that not put rear air in some of the Expedition!! Exterior is in great condition as well as interior...supperior for its age..I would like to find a newer Expedition or older F-250 Power Stroke of course the only way to have it... please let me know what you think my baby is worth. Ford is the way to go just to let everyone out there in the automotive industry know!

There is 3 prices when you go to sell anything ..

    1.) "asking"

    2.) "liking"

    3.) "taking"

Like my neighbor, you can "ask" anything you like, it's your vehicle ... then again, my neighbor has been trying to sell his house for 9 months ...

If your using KBB, I'll bet your finger wandered over to the "excellent" catorgory and you used the dealer retail figure ... there's no such thing as "excellent", unless Mom is driving a 05 Benz CLK500 Cabriolet with 4,500 miles that only travels at night -- and never in the rain ..l.o.l...

$14,900 is a nice "asking" price ... but I have a funny feelin' the dealer in Cleveland or Cinci would drop-kick that dude off his lot for the mid $12's ... that said, 00's and up, can still get LTF (Long Term Financing) now that that the 06's are rolling around ... your buyers will probably be Cashola ...

Keep in mind .. it's easier for a potential buyer to negotiate in hundreds, than in thousands ... thats why God made black magic markers .... ;)

Welcome back. None of us can keep up with all of the requests like you can.

I am thinking about selling my MINI so that I can free up some income for a house. I am just gathering information so I can figure out how much would be good to ask for it. I haven't kept up with the market on these at all since I bought mine so I need some help.

    Location: Hartford, CT
    2004/ MINI Cooper S

    Engine: 1.6 Supercharged

FWD of course and a proper manual tranny as I bought mine before BMW bowed down to people who demanded an Automatic in the Cooper S.

Mileage: 27,200 and only 200 miles since the first of the year since I have a demo now.

Color: Chili Red with Black roof, black mirrors and black leatherete interior

    Major Options:
Cold weather package: (heated seats, mirrors and washer jets)

Premium package: (Panorama roof, trip computer, Cruise control etc)

Sport package: (Xenons, sport suspension, fog lamps everything but the 17 inch S-Lite style Sport wheels. I got the 16 inch wheels since the 17 inch wheel and tire combo weigh 52 lbs each)

    Condition:
Interior perfect just needs a good vacum
Exterior needs a good wash and wax but I have kept it mostly covered through the winter. One deep scratch on the drivers side door from stupid neighbor kid who ran his bike into the door and a paint chip that looks like it was caused by a BB gun probably fired by the same stupid neighbor kid

Tires - are the original Run Flat all season dunlops but I rotated them every 6,000 to 8,000 miles so they are about 50% worn.
Brakes were done by local MINI service at about 24,000 miles.

I did all maintenance myself except for the last 24,000 miles service down by dealership.

Only aftermarket modification to my MINI is an adjustable 24 mm rear swaybar from MINI madness currently set to race mode.

Actually trying to drop down to a max of 3 vehicles with only one car payment and drop our insurance from $4400/year to $2500/year. Considering the Titan is heading for front diff number 4 and they still don't know why, I can't keep the darn thing, if its going to blast through a diff every 500 miles (no joke there) that could get dang expensive.

There is more reason for the diesel.....mainly our 14k dump trailer and our 12k flatbed trailer.

Neither of our trucks can handle those long term, heck the Titan won't even tow a small trailer without overheating the tranny now. I'm at the Nissan dealer every 2 weeks for the past 2 months, this is getting old......spent 5 hrs there today only to be told, um, we don't know what's wrong with it. Their fix was a longer front diff vent hose fed into a Dasani bottle, lol.

Oh and the valet did damage the mirror, a friend was driving the truck when he hit the bird. Road rash, well, that's just road rash.

Either way, it looks like I'm staring at $19k for the Titan and who knows for Zippy.

...** think ya overlooked me, Terry...
First off, welcome back Terry. I returned to the forum after about 2 years (used to be spatulaman...I think ...I forgot my old login), and you were nowhere to be found!
Anyways...I'm looking at pitching my Taslowma for a Ram SRT-10.
    2001 Tacoma X-tra Cab 4x4 v6
    60k miles
Power windows, locks, mirrors, steering, A/C, cd player, bedliner, sliding rear window, towing package
    Black outside
    Tan inside
    Manual trans
Between good and very good condition, but closer to good than VG
    Houston, TX
    =====================================

    "..used to be spatulaman.."

I remember you.! ..... nobody get's overlooked, I'm just slooooooow .. plus I'm trying to catch up with things all over the place (and play golf) because me and the g/f went to China for 3 weeks (not much golf there) ... do you have any idea how long it takes to walk around that Great Wall thingy.??

In Houston .... we got this 01 Tacoma extra cab fo by fo V6 with 60k ... the miles are low for the year, it's black, we got the power pack, bedliner, it's black, window with some moves, tow pack, and it's a handshaker - and it's black - now there's a combo ... that's like having a free weekend at a fancy resort and having your Mother-in-law in the next room .....

...anywaaaay .. if the rubber is deep, cold breeze, no secret rendezvous at Maaco, you haven't been towing a 10,000lb boat around and the 60k service is done ... then trade side, in and around the tall $11's low $12's, maybe "might" see the mid/strong $12's on a very lucky and blessed day ..... the miles giveth, the color and the handshaker taketh away ... actually your biggest competitor will be the 4 banger Yota's ..

You might take a stab at this one down Retail Rd ...

    2002 Ford Taurus SE 86k green-gray metallic
Vulcan engine, front bench; usual power stuff, CD player.

Off-lease car from the state, "sort of" clean, not a rat.
Door dings, couple small nicks in the roof (!?), one broke the paint... have to look for them, but needs attention.
New Goodyears down the left side; the other two are OK.

A friend was going to get this thing for me from the Lansing auction, but someone else got on it and wouldn't let go. It brought $4950, here at our podunk little place. That should have been a $4,500 car on its very best day.

It's crazy! There is nothing to be had right now in the lower end of the market. I'm gonna have to buy a couple cheap cars next December and find a place to keep 'em til March.

But all's well that ends well: steine13, "Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous" #6512, 19 May 2006 6:39 pm

Like my great Grand Daddy used to say: .. two of the most important things in business are "timing timing timing and location location location ..." .... seems like you might have both here ... you live in Hot-fuurd and spring has sprung .. plus these little dudes still do some stupid $$ this time of the year ..

The miles are a little high, the rubber is a little weak, the color is a winner and the upgrades help, but won't sell it ....

Being in the business you know that you want to give the potential buyers 22 good reasons why to buy, and zero reasons not to buy .... so I would drop the new round things on it, complete any service and have the "Mac Daddy detailer" in the area put his blessed hands on the vehicle, punch some great pics and drop a fat daddy Ad in the Big paper and $21,495 *asking" and work your way down from there ....

... keep in mind, your competition is the other 02/03/04/05's ... I just sold a 05 convert with 13k (in no-sale blue with a meat clever, no S) for $22,5 and was happy to get it ..... :D:):D

Thanks Terry that pretty much confirms what I was thinking plus you were about a grand stronger on the asking price then I was thinking.

I'm sure it takes quite a while to hoof it around the great wall....the great in great wall ain't some marketing BS.

$11-12k Ick. I was hoping for more... espescially since a quick survey of AutoTrader shows dealers are asking $18k for similar trucks (same options, diff colors). Are they on crack? So what do you think Retail Rd would bring?

Hey Terry, can you give me your thoughts on this one. I hope to be trading in Monday or Tuesday:

    Detroit area
    2002 Toyota RAV4 4WD
    87,000 miles
    silver
    auto, air, pw/pl, cruise, CD
looks brand new (honest), interior flawless
    tires and brakes fairly new
    original owner
However, was in accident (front end) over 2 years ago (approx $6K damage). Airbags never deployed. I can't tell that it has been repaired, but I'm not a professional. Carfax shows NO accidents, however.

NADA says $14,000 trade, Edmunds says $10,900, KBB says $8500. Both dealers I have been to offer $8500. Is that really all there is? I can't help feeling I should get more.

    Thanks for your help.

".. I was hoping for more.."

....of course you were .. and I was hoping to get Adriana Lima's phone # when I saw her in Beijing a few weeks ago ... but that's the flea's that come with the dog ..l.o.l....

Bud, it's your vehicle .. you can put in the paper for $25,000 if you so desire ... it's the "getting" part that's goin' to be tuff ..l.o.l... how close is the nearest Home Depot..?

Let's look at the positives here .. it's black, it's in Houston and it's a meat clever, should I say more....?

Try $14,900 in the paper and see what kind of response you get ....

... ** That should have been a $4,500 car on its very best day....**

Shoulda - woulda - coulda .. famous last words .l.o.l... see what I mean.? ... I've seen many "big name" buyers drop $500/$1,500 even $5,000 more on vehicles that weren't even close to market $$ ..... but hey, it ain't my $$ .....

Congrats on the Millenia ... good buy and they're nice cars ..... biggest problem with those (and this ain't no biggie.!) was the og sensors .. kicks the Check engine light, most dumb mekanics will tell you all 3 need to be replaced, only needs the first one and these can be found for $50 or less, waaaay less ....
