    Yeah knowing MSRP on both of those vehicles is worthless. Since you did not pay MSRP anyway. I would give you about 18k or so I think they nailed the value of that truck. As for the Kia That seems to fit my line of research too. Especially for a 4x2. Sounds like that dealer is pretty well on the mark.

    I swear this is NOT for me! Its for a friend of mine who I don't want to see taken to the cleaners.

    1998 Dodge Ram quad-cab, long bed, 4x4, 5-speed manual, cummins diesel, SLT, loaded up with the power stuff and such, no leather, running boards, spray in liner. Somebody also put backup lights on the bumper, kinda tacky, but ok. Truck is silver/grey interior, looks to be in pretty good shape. Has 110k on it. Dealer is asking $16,995, I'd really like to have some of what he's smoking!!

    Sounds like he's in it around $7500 but then said they put a *couple thousand* in it for repairs. I'm thinking $12k is all the money on this beast! The girl is scared to negotiate and I'm 200 miles away at the moment, so trying to help her as best I can. Hoping to give her a target number and a number not to go over.

    So, am I in the ballpark at least? Personally if I was her I'd keep looking, but I'm not her. :sick:

    I wouldn't give that guy a dime over 12k. A '98 2500 with those options books at 13,500 at KBB! the 1500 is catching a pretty steady 12k+. 17K!?!? He is out of his mind.

    He isnt wanting a another car.... We are willing to trade out our truck along with his truck for us to have a new vehicle... This will get him out from under the payment.
    We are all aware that he will be upside down on his truck but we are willing to let him pay us back the difference over time.

    it really sounds like you've made up your mind ... but one last word of caution ... it is FAR better to be buried in something you love (as you said, he loves his truck) than something you hate (and might be more used and unreliable).

    For instance ... let's say you buy an $8K used economy car. You then roll $4k negative equity into it. You now owe $12k on a used economy car that might be worth $6k as a trade-in as soon as you drive away. Not a pleasant scenario.

    My last word on this ... I swear. KEEP THE TRUCK! he loves it, and that is very important when you are in upside-down situations. if you are willing to let him pay you back, then help him make the darned payments now and he can pay you back for THAT later. He'll be much happier paying you back for something he loves than something he settled on. Plus, you really aren't saving money in the long run. You are just ensuring that he will be upside-down longer in another car that he doesn't like.

    I agree with volvomax. If it were me I would MUCH rather be upside down in something that I loved, rather than be buried in something that I hated. There is nothing more aggravating than making payments on something that you are hopelessly buried in when you loathe just getting into in the morning. KEEP THE TRUCK.

    Assuming you can't sell the car at the desired price, another option with an upside down loan is to bite the bullet and make as large a payment as possible toward the principle balance.

    Depending on the bank, after you send them a check for say $3000 to $5000 or whatever amount you can afford, you will have the option of keeping your monthly payments the same and speed up the payoff time or getting a lower monthly bill. A few months down the line, you do it again and all of a sudden you are not as upside down as before.

    Being upside down stinks, but don't fall into the trap of rolling it over !

    Think your NADA guide is only a few months out of date?
    I was going through some old pictures of a long deceased family member and found a NADA guide from 1948. Glue in the binding is starting to wear thin. I may take it up to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival next year for the swap meets and see if anyone wants to part with some green for it.

    Did you adjust for the mileage? 92K miles on an '02.. Especially on a highline import.. That has to be a huge deduction..

    Normally, an '02 530i with low miles would pull $20K easy, but high miles is a killer on Bimmers.

    Well that depends a lot on whether you are planning to purchase it off of a dealers lot or you are planning to buy it privately. I would be very wary of a '03 Bimmer with 115k miles on it. BMWs are very finnicky with high miles on them and they are not known for their reliability over 110k. I mean whoever had it before put 29,000 miles on it a year! Here is what I would pay:

    Privately: $16,000

    Off of a lot: $18,000

    IMO, with 50K miles, you should be around $20K, at most..

    So... with 115K? Under $14K..

    That isn't from the books or auctions, though... But, I had an '03 325i that I sold just last year..

    My guess is that the car should cost you somewhere between $9-12,000 depending on whether it is private party or dealer.
    However, you should have plenty of $$ leftover for maintenance and repairs.

    I would like trade and private party sale value for:

    Spokane, WA
    2000 Toyota Sienna CE minivan
    FWD
    59,000 miles
    White, gray interior
    Only option is alloy wheels
    Good condition for a 7 year old van. The exterior has a few tiny paint chips and scratches. The interior has some scrapes and scratches as well.
    Tires are MIchelin Hydroedge with 20K miles, they look good. I'm also including 4 steel wheels with Yokohama Guardex studless snows.
    Mechanically fine, everything works.
    No accidents, damage, etc. Always garaged and maintained properly.

    Most 325i's with 45k miles are selling for 29 - 30k off the lots around here. And I looked In his area for car listings on dealerships and they all seemed to say somewhere around 20k for that car with that many miles on it. But that price did seem really high so I gave you the quotes that I gave him for a reason. I did do research and about 60 min worth of it. I also do appraise vehicles.

    Around here, the car you describe is $24K-$25K, if it is CPO from a BMW dealer.. and that would be asking, not selling price..

    I just happen to be familiar with the market for that car, because I sold one last year, and that is where my interest lies... Where I live, the value of a BMW drops off a cliff, once it passes 100K miles..
