You ever see any 2001 Toyota Echos run through the auctions? What kind of money are they bringing right now? Probably an automatic...
Leland
1992 Mercury Topaz GS 4 dr, auto, air, pw, pl, cruise control, 86k. Blue. Excellent condition inside and out, with some minor rust on the inside of the doors. Everything in good working order, no repairs forecast for the next 20k miles or so. Definitely in great shape considering the age and miles.
Any guesses? I am located in northeast Ohio, zip code 44223.
Rob
As far as KBB goes... I have no idea where they get their #s from... but it is not from reality.
They'll put a # on a car that's a solid $1,000-1,500++ higher than what the car MIGHT do at an auction.

I hate to say it but probably a $500 car or so...

What is the fair market value for trade-in?
Thanks.
Terry.
Also, see you live down the road from me in Norwalk, CT - I'm in Farifeld.. Here's my trade in:
Car: 1991 Volvo 740 Wagon, non-turbo
Mileage: 125K
Feature: Leather (driver seat shows wear, other seat leather is in excellent condition), CD, Sun roof
Body: Good-Very Good -> 1 minor dent in front 1/4 panel.
Have all service records - done by Volvo dealer - all major maintenance done on time (50K, 60K, 90K, 100K)
Everything works - except Air Conditioning -- needs compressor and hose ~ $1K to fix. (includes R134A conversion).
Engine - fine burns no oil, suspension and front end - tight (replaced all bushings in front so steering is as tight as a new car.)
Any idea on a trade in appreciated - I suspect $2-2.5K. KBB shows $3.5K trade in.
Thx in advance. Rick
cold air, decent tires, factory CD, the usual power stuff, 4.3 automatic, totally inoccuous (there are three black Jimmys and Blazers on our block alone). 82k miles, not perfect (ABS light on, power seat inop, fog lights inop, never had a rear license plate light, couple of scrapes, dullish paint), but mechanically well maintained and definitely presentable.
I know he's gonna get sacked if he trades this, I'm thinking $9k-ish in the paper? He wants a van and also to know how upside down he is. Thanx for any numbers you can throw out!
So based on what you are telling us -- I'm thinkin' in and around a $4,500 ish figure .. and that is a "big maybe" more towards $4 -- Recommend to your brother that he shop around , for the seat to be fixed and the ABS to be checked out ( could just be a switch, Blazers are known for that ) -- if he can do this work for let's say $500 or so with a great detail, and make it look like a Diamond, update the service records. etc. He could probably do a great Ad in the Chi Tribune paper and maybe get $6/$7,000 ... hey, can't hurt ... in another month or so 4x4's are going to be in demand in your area --- and the folks that live there -- well, they already know that ... l...o...l...
Good luck and let me know ..
Terry.
I'm thinking of selling or trading it, but if the value's too low, I'll just keep it myself. What should I expect as a realistic value for this truck, should I decide to sell it ? Thanks in advance.
By your username I assume you're in Georgia.
Good. 2WD Jeep=Terrible in the snow belt.
Hmm... Taupe Frost, that's like that Champagney color, right?
OK, if its' clean, nonsomoker, no paintwork.. The 62K miles hurt it.. I think its' worth about $11,500 or so on trade. Maybe to $12K if its' totally perfect.. but seeing as how I'm buying 35K mile ones in the mid $14s...
As far as retail goes.. I bet if you put it in the paper with a well-written "5-liner" as Terry says, it ought to be worth $14,900 or so.
Hope this helps!
Bill
OK, records, clean..etc... But hot air.
I'd say somewhere around $2,000-2,200 is where I'd hit it. On a retail level I sell a lot of older 740s. If I was you I'd wait till November...Then lack of AC wont kill it as much. If it has a bad compressor.. well, be glad you are not trying to trade it in in Miami!
Bill
Car is in Excellent Condition, and is in Washington, DC.
TIA - Damon
As you may recall, I've been looking at '99 Acura RLs. When I was getting tires on my wife's car this weekend, I walked across the street to the Lexus dealer. They had a couple '98 LS400s that were very nice. I'm not thrilled about the big hump in the back for the driveshaft, which makes it basically a four passenger car, but it was very nice. They were asking mid $30's. What are clean 98's going for at the auctions?
My Dad just bought a new car, and has offered me his winter car to replace my winter car. I know mine isn't worth anything in trade, but what's it worth retail? Also, what is my Dad's car worth? Here are the details:
My car - champaign, '91 Honda Accord LX, burgandy interior, 208k miles, runs great, no rust, service records, Yokohama tires at 50%, cold air, new muffler, brakes/rotors, timing belt, water pump, alloy wheels, paint work on front clip, but a good match, keyless entry/alarm system/remote start/remote trunk release, AM/FM/Cassette/CD changer, good condition in and out. Everyone comments on how clean it is for its age.
My Dad's car - dark green, '93 Honda Accord SE, cream interior, 95k miles, runs great, no rust, service records, Firestone tires at 75%, cold air, new timing belt, water pump, alloy wheels, paint work on front clip (hit by a deer), but a good match, keyless entry/alarm system/remote trunk release, AM/FM/cassette, good condition in and out except for worn leather on driver's seat.
Thanks guys.
Quentin
Hope this helps!
Bill
Nice 98 LSs? $28-30K with low miles here in FL.. Color very depending tho...
I just saw a beautiful Black 98 with 32K miles do $28K. Black Onyx/Ivory, Heated Seats, roof, CD.
OK.. Your car? $1,750 is where it hits me..... The Papamobile sounds like a $3,500-4K car to me...
Hopethis helps!
Bill
Where do you have it advertised? Online alone is not such a great idea...
Try the paper.. Autotrader...etc...
Bill
Thanks,
Quentin

mileage - 108k , quadratrac 4 wheel drive, color - sandlewood, am/fm/tape, power doors, seats, locks, keyless entry/anti-theft, fog lights and skid package. Vehicle is in good mechanical shape, well maintained, maintenace records available. Also, do you think that offering to have the vehicle inspected at my cost prior to closing on a sell is a good marketing tool.
v6, auto,air, power,cass cd
Brand new 31k msrp...buy for $26,010
plus tax and tag................
Toyota's, even with a ton of miles have great re-sale -- at all the East Coast auctions you would be looking at - in and around a $23,000ish figure (real money) if it has no dings or parking lot kisses and it's stayed clear of the french fry invasion ..
$25,400 is a more than fair asking price on this side of the Mississippi. But, I'm not that familiar with the SF area. Try expanding your AD to a 5 liner
2000 Toyota SR5 4 runner V6.
bought new in 99, loaded, sunroof
running boards and Rack,all factory
options, only 15K,factory warranty,
must see, must sell $24,989
Well, you kinda get the idea ..
Good luck ..
Terry.
a good "asking" price would be around in and around $3,999 --- that's if it's detailed, knee deep in rubber, and it "stands tall" and of course, having all those service records is a -life saver- and should put a little more jingle in your pocket...
Terry.
If you go to their 'Decision Guide' (left side, toward bottom) then to 'compare side-by-side', you can get the original MSRP and, I think, the average used wholesale/retail. A better measure of used values is to see what people are actually asking and getting for their cars; sources like Edmunds or KBB tend to be a bit optimistic, IMHO.
In any case, I think it's pretty difficult to predict with much certainty what's going to be a hot used car in ten years. Yeah, people will still be buying Accords, Camrys and Civics, but some of the other cars tend to be more 'fashion dictated' (just as VWs are hot right now, seven years ago you couldn't get rid of one, same with Audis).
My son is thinking about trading it in, and maybe buying himself a Wrangler or the new CR-V. I'm also interested though in the 2002 Civics with the better ride, but it is his decision, not mine. Anyway, what would be a reasonable offer in trade from both a non-Honda dealer and a regular Honda dealer?
A Silver Civic EX, with close to no miles ... and in perfect shape, should do in and around $18,000+ ..
Terry.
Terry.
Thanks
Sam
When we bought the car, we got the price down from the $18,400 MSRP to $16,500 plus tax, freight, license fee, etc. That meant the final out the door price was about $18,100 including everything.
So even though we bought the car for $18,100 total, I could trade it in and only have lost 100 dollars from the purchase 6 months ago? It's sounds great, but too good to be true. Any follow up would be great!
A friend of mine want to trade an Acura 2002 TL-S, splash guards, and wheel locks with 8000 miles for a MDX. Can you tell me the trade-in value? He is in S. Cal.
Thanks
The average is $6600, with KBB at the bottom at $3900-$4000, and my insurer up around $8000. It's a 4 door, 200 HP 4.3 liter engine, leather, tow package, AWD with traction control, etc. The paint is green metal flake and slightly faded. The color is still strong, but there's no gloss to it. It has no mechanical faults, new AC compressor and good tire tread left.
Whose numbers do I believe here?
Mike
What would the trade-in value be for a 1996 volvo wagon with turbo. Color is black and it is loaded with every conceivable option- sunroof, leather, premium sound, 3rd row seat, etc. I live in philadelphia suburbs and car is in nice condition-a few minor scratches but nothing major. Thanks.
