    Aren't low-mile '00-'01 models dropping below $30K now?

That's the way I would go...

    Bill,
    I didn't get your reply. I sent a new e-mail with a different e-mail address to try.

I did get the carspace reply though.

I think that's the one he meant is at $25k. A 50k miler '00. Now THAT sounds OK to me.

I'm writing it on my shopping list right now. Just gotta bite on my wallet another 20 months on my lease, though. :(

I agree, partly since I'm a returning customer. It's a "1 simple price" dealer and they will sell an 08 Altima for $1500+ off MSRP.....unlike the new Accords which they also sell (for MSRP!).....
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Wait a year, the Accord will get discounts. That segment is just too competitive for that practice to last.
  • spatulamanspatulaman Member Posts: 157
Generally speaking, how are the values on G35 6MT Coupes doing these days? I'm considering buying one and I always like to try to get a feel for what the market is REALLY doing at auction rather than just what the book says. So...are they going above, below, or right at (Edmunds) book value? Are any particular years doing worse than others? I'm in Texas (but I'm willing to travel anywhere in the CONUS for the right deal) looking for a black/black car, probably '05 or newer, but the prices on '03s and '04s that I've been seeing are quite attractive as well.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,617
    Just to compare against new...

My local dealer is offering new, fairly loaded '07 models for $4300 off MSRP.. I think right around $33K.

Very true. They're doing new ones pretty much at invoice - $2k.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
they will sell an 08 Altima for $1500+ off MSRP

If you get 8500 for your old car and 1500 off on an '08 Altima, you get a really nice deal here.

I think since you put so many miles per year, don't you think you should get an '07 Altima for better price?
  • kinsalekinsale Member Posts: 33
Thanks for the info. I have a fair bit of neg equity, so I was hoping to minimize it. I'm looking to pay off the neg equity then get in a car that I can pay cash for. I would sell it privately but don;t know how much of a market there is for a fairly expensive used car.

The 940 sounds good apart from the rwd which would be tough with the winters here in NH.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
gotcha.. then look for an 850, they are much more reliable than the S70s.. just watch for broken odometers.. get one scanned by a dealer or well-equipped independent to check the computer's stored mileage.
  • kinsalekinsale Member Posts: 33
Thats a great tip, thank you. Now if I could only offload the vue!
  • godeacsgodeacs Member Posts: 481
Thought I had responded but my post disappeared....lol

No 07 Altimas left and the mileage is not that high - car is exactly 6 yrs old - so just under 16K miles/year. Made several long trips the past 12-18 months, which was unusual, and that really inflated the mileage.

It's between an 08 Altima (4 cyl)and 07/08 Accords....my trade appraisal works at both dealers. Leaning toward the Accord.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
They've been below $30k for a looong time. $24kish. Just try and get one with a build date in calendar year 2000.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
At the moment they seem to be crossing the block, 05s with, say, 15k on em, in and around the $23-27k range.

Equipment, location, color, etc etc all play a difference. How that affects TMV I have no idea.

    That's a tough one.
My "guess" is low 30's,say $31-34,000

Big boy Cayenne's depreciate like falling safes, it would be interesting to see how the V6 models do.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
I have only ever appraised one V6 Cayenne but it was over a year ago.

I have to think that the new 2008 Cayenne where the V6 is a decent performer and a viable alternative to the V8 model have to have made the older V6 cars drop in value quite a bit.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I thought the same thing. Not that I'd ever be in the market for one of those, but if I were, there is no doubt I'd get the later 3.6l V6 model.

I've looked at V8's which have a much bigger book.

I wouldn't be surprised if I were off on the high side on the Cayenne V6.

I wonder what any of the bmw fanatics here, or elsewhere, think about this? In 20 years of looking at crash test results for bmw's, M-B's, audis, & volvos, I've never seen one that didn't get good--to excellent--safety ratings.

Not saying you shouldn't be concerned, just that most bmw's are built like (nice performing) tanks, esp. when you get to 5's, 7's, X5's. Even non-car nuts have remarked on how heavy the doors are on my e39 5-series. Maybe the crash test results are a fluke?

Just curious myself; but any bmw scoring worse than a Kia.......???? I guess anything is possible?
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
    Gotta be a fluke.

    See here

All goods all the way across the board except for the driver torso and pelvis.

Something was wrong with that particular car and BMW should petition to be retested like they did with the X5 in Europe a few years ago.

If you get the Accord, I want to see your detail numbers here. I'm curious b/c when I tried to trade in my '05 Altima last month, 2 Honda dealers (1 of the dealer also owns a Nissan dealer) offered me way lower than the Nissan dealer.

I never like the Accord but I want to see how low I can get cuz of the big discount on the '07 Accord. So, I got a base 2.5S Altima at the end.
  • godeacsgodeacs Member Posts: 481
Will keep you posted - my $8.5K trade appraisal is good thru Mon. Test drove the 08 4 cyl Accords last night - couldn't tell the diff between the 177 and 190 HP. Down to the Accord 07 EX-V6 for $23.5K, 08 Accord LX-P for $22.5K, 08 Accord EX for $24.5K and the 08 Altima 2.5S (with SL Pack) for $24.1K or so (all quotes are + TT&L). My trade is good for any of these deals...

Will be glad when this is over.....
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Probably worth in and around the $34k range. CPO is a help, second set of wheels should go on eBay.

Try a private sale.. ask $37,900.
  • danellhdanellh Member Posts: 14
I'm not sure this is the best place to post this so if not, please forgive my ignorance. Any help/suggestions will be most appreciated.

I have a 1997 4 door Civic EX manual transmission. It has 199,000 miles on it. All hoses, clamps, belts are one month old (just replaced). Tires about one year old. Body has some minor dings. Transmission died a couple days ago and dealers will only offer maybe $150 if that. Someone suggested listing it on Craigs List or selling to a transmission shop. I thought about donating it to some charity. Any thoughts? Oh, and I replaced the clutch at some point, don't remember just when but I have all the maintenance records and have been the only owner. The CV boots are also cracked.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Let's see if I can help..

    1) If you do like the car, you might consider fixing it. Used Transmissions cost no more than $300 plus installation for your car.

    2) Sell it as-is, try eBay or craigslist.. try craigslist first as ebay gets pricey.. I'd ask, I dunno.. $800? $900? Negotiate from there.

    3) Fix it with a used trans and sell it. Ask $2900 and take in the low $2000s.

All that being said, if ti runs good otherwise.. $600-800 should get it back on the road, including labor at an independent shop ($300-400) and a new clutch ($150-200).

    Hope this helps!

Hello guys, how about a little help. 2002 Acura RL with 80,000 miles. Silver, black interior. I have had the car for about 2 years and it is in great condition. It still has about 2 years or up to 100,000 miles left under the "Acura Care" warranty program. I am the second owner.

What are some real world numbers I could expect on a trade-in. Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Bill,

I did not get an actual estimate from my mechanic but he estimated in the low thousands to fix. Something about needing several hundred for each axle to repair CV boots + cost of new transimission. Clutch is okay. Craigslist sounds like a good idea, I just hate gambling by putting money into it with the hope of getting more back. Ouch!
  • woodywwwoodyww Member Posts: 1,806
Based on what Bill is saying, it might take $1K to fix a 199K mile Civic. And you don't know what else you're gonna get into, $$-wise, with the CV boots & who knows what.

I'd agree to try to sell it on Craigslist or ebay & not fix it. Personally I'd be really really happy to get a few hundred $$, as is.

PS-the donation thing is a whole 'nother can of worms, from what I've read here.....

    Bill,
In my situation, do you recc. RWD with snows or AWD?

    Mark
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Mark,

RWD with snows is going to be better than AWD without snows.

My 740iL has NO problem running up and down hills in the snow.. and you're near Louisville, right? We get a lot more snow than you do!

Snows. The skinniest snows you can safely use.. my 740iL uses 215-65HR16 Snows.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Well,

The AcuraCare extended warranty won't transfer so see if you can cash it in. Well, it might transfer on a private party sale... Trade-In will be in the $9-10k range, If it were me.. ask $12,900 in the paper, it's a cheap prestige car and might be an easy sale.

Well, here's what I would do. Folks are absolutely insane when it comes to used civics ... especially with manual trannies. Put it on craigs for $800 as is. I would not be the least bit surprised if you get about a million calls on it. Take the first $500 cash that comes your way. I'd be surprised if it even sells for that low, honestly. I bet there is more than one person out there who would give you $1k.

I'm in the process of either selling or trading in my parent's 1999 Ford F150. KBB is at $6800. While it's a 1999 truck, it has very low mileage at 18,000 miles and is in great shape. V6, 4-door cab, 2 WD.

I'm considering trading this in, along with my parent's 2002 Windstar for a new mini-van for my mom (all this due to declining health of my dad).

Just wondering what I can expect to be offered for a trade-in...thanks in advance!

Any idea what this is worth? I know it's kind of a rare one:

    Austin, TX area
    2006 Mazda MazdaSpeed6 Sport
    4-door
    AWD
    6-speed manual tranny
    10,500 miles
    Black/Black
    Excellent condition, garaged
    No accidents, etc.

Bought it new for a really good price, but it's not quite everything I hoped for.

    Thanks in advance.

    Stuck In Traffic.. nice username!

OK.. I would peg this guy right around the $18k-18,500 mark.

What don't ya like about it? If it's not sporty enough.. might consider a used CTS-V... they are amazing bang for the buck.

    I know what you mean.

Mazda hosted a Zoom Zoom Live event here in DC, and the Miata and RX8 were memorable, but the Speed6, as good as it is on paper, was just so-so.

IIRC it felt a bit nose-heavy and plowed a lot. To be fair it was a tight course that didn't let it open up.

$18k makes it a good used car value, though.
  • stkntrafficstkntraffic Member Posts: 172
Thanks for the info, im_brentwood. That's actually not too bad, I paid a little under 22K for it brand new a year ago.

I'm just a little disappointed with the build quality. The performance is great, handling is fantastic. But I've noticed a few chips in the paint on the hood, some cheap interior stuff, etc. Makes me think about a G35 sedan, or even an M35/45. I'm gun-shy about Caddys... I had a bad experience with a 96 Eldo, but that's a story for another day.
  • robbiegrobbieg Member Posts: 350
You got me thinking. What are the CTS-V's going for? Say a 2005 with about 30,000 on it? I checked the completed listings on ebay and the only CTS-V that sold had a salvage title.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Robbie,

They're doing $26,500-27,500 or so at the auctions.. you ought to be able to buy one for $30k.. possibly less on eBay.

Stuff like that hardly ever sells on eBay, people want em for $22k.. never happen.

Lots of stuff doesn't stuff on ebay. I've been following craigslist this year and it sure works if a car is nice and priced realistically.

An example (where I was way off on the price) from just this past weekend:

'98 Toyota Celica convertible, supposedly a one family owned vehicle, white with black leather, automatice, 83K - sold for the asking price ($9300) within 2 days. I figured it would only bring about 7, maybe 7.5, this time of year.

And it's like that with anything that shows well in pics and has a decent history - poof, gone with one craigslist ad.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
If it's perfect... I'd peg it around 17/17,500. Might hit 18 but it's a bit of a stretch.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Maybe it had a new top? That can add a grand or so of value to a convertible.

Miata tops last about 10 years, give or take, so a '98 would be needing a new top soon if it wasn't already replaced.
