2023 Hyundai Kona Limited AWD (wife) / 2025 VW GTI (me) / 2019 Chevrolet Cruze Premier RS (daughter #1) / 2020 Hyundai Accent SE (daughter #2) / 2023 Subaru Impreza Base (son)
She offered, and they accepted, $3,000 for the car and she may go in the morning to close the deal.
My main question, for Volvomax, is if there are any pitfalls to be aware of with these older Volvos. It'll be used to cart around grandkids, so I'd hate for her to get into something that could be a maintenance nightmare.
Thanks!

Believe it or not, there are SOME people in this world who DON'T WANT a Camcord. And probably why he didn't ask about those.
The man obviously likes 2 cars and has asked which is more reliable. And I'm with him. They are both more appealing choices than a new Camcord.

We had a 2005 Equinox LT (FWD) on a lease. Over the 3 years that we had the car, we had one small problem with an electrical relay. Other than that, we really liked it - except it didn't have 3rd row seating.
I hear the XL7 is built on the same base platform (well was..not sure about the 2010 models) as the Equinox we had - and offers 3rd row seating. I am guessing, based on reviews and comments that the ride is very similar to the Equinox, if not a little better handling because they do NOT use electronic steering.
So, what's the deal with the poor resale?
Were they just too highly priced to start? Are there lots of problems I have not read about? Is it just the brand name?
I see 2008's with leather, roof, awd, 20-25,000 miles (so another 10-15K on the main warranty and another 80-85K on the power train) selling in the $17-18K range.
That seems like a decent deal and then you read dealers only offering $10,000 for 2007 models!!!
Ok...can anybody shed any light on this?
New Cars
Camry,
Accord,
base Audi A3 (Audi is pushing it little... sells for 25K)
Hyundai Azera
Nissan Altima
These are all new and come with warranty and if you buy NEW CAR this year you get tax deduction also.
If didn't want "appliance-car" then I would look at used certified Infiniti G35/G37..Found bunch of them on autotrader.com...
As someone already mentioned the cost of passat/Volvo are out of line
You need to do your homework... else you will have to pay for your laziness
Wow! So someone has different taste in cars than you and they are lazy??
Once again, the poster did not ask what YOU would buy. I thought the poster's question was pretty simple. I'm confused why others didn't understand it.

But as post in 38348 above jay found
2008 Passat with 9200 miles listed for 17999...way better deal...
Shows that more homework is needed to buy passat or VW or any other car for that matter. Else you will pay for not doing research.
Suzuki's 7/100 warranty is fully transferable, too, something you can't say about Hyundai and Kia. That makes the low resale a bit surprising, since the 2nd buyers keeps the full warranty.
Then again, it's basically a GM platform, though I think the 252hp engine is unique to Suzuki - or is it GM's 3.6l from the CTS sans direct injection?
My qualm with those was that the price climbed quickly as you added options. In 07 an AWD Limited broke $30 grand base price, even without options.
I bet those went out the door for 20% off list prices, though, so maybe resale's not so bad after all, if you paid $24k for a loaded one.
$14-15k on the Infiniti.
Damn. See, this is where the Jersey rules can bite you in the [non-permissible content removed]. The auctions may prove $14-$15k to be correct, but, unfortunately, Galves says $12k-$13k on my G.
So it appears as though I won't be trading this in after all.
HOWEVER, interestingly enough ...
@ $14k on the Volvo
At the other end of the equation, Galves pegs our XC90 at $16k, give or take a nickel.
Weird.

If you look at a profile of the XL7 and overlay it on an Equinox/Torrent, you will quickly see that the general shape is almost exactly the same...especially the windows...with the XL7 having a slightly longer and more "boxed" butt end (for the 3rd row option).
It sounds like a $30K price tag (new), if that's what some paid, would be silly for these.
But then again, paying $40+K for an Acura MDX, is silly to me too.
I actually met a car salesman the other day...used cars...and he said...quote...
"Buying a car is a terrible investment. New, used, it doesn't matter. They all lose so much money it's awful. You would never buy anything else that lost as much value as a car does."
Good selling tactic...I wanted to buy a car from him that day...but...he had nothing I wanted to squabble over...
Well, there is his mistake right there. Buying a car is not an investment at all, terrible or otherwise. Its an expense ...
well ... unless you are speculating on a classic car, anyway.

The 940 was a dirt simple car in 1993. The Iron Block 4 cyl will live practically forever with proper maintenance. Also, that car had little in the way of the electronics that modern Volvo's have. The only real weak spot in the car is the fact that the AC wasn't all that great.
I'd have a Volvo mechanic look the car over, if it's sound it should run for years to come.
As for safety, I'd rather have an accident in a 940 than in a decade newer Japanese or Korean car. They were just built like tanks, the safety cages protect way better than the regulations called for.
Buying a car is NEVER an investment.
An investment is that which you part with your money in the expectation that you will have MORE money down the road. Cars never do this.(Yes, I know about collector cars, most of them never make money for the buyer either.)
Cars are an expense. Sooner or later they are all worth the same. $0.
All that varies is how soon that happens.
Buy what you want to drive, understand that there is a price to be paid for doing so.
Im trying to get a trade in value for my 05 Expedition. Its the Eddie Bauer edition 2wd. Its Laser red over tan with a tan interior Around 68k miles. I would say its in good condition and it has almost all the options. Rear DVD system, built in navigation, heated and a/c seats, running boards, roof rack. Tires have at least 80% life left, brakes are pretty new and its been well maintained. Thanks in advance!

I know no used car is "excellent" but this thing is pretty darn close for a 7 year old car...I'm thinking of buying it myself from them, part of the reason why I'm asking for a value. One owner car, garaged, most maintenance records (my brother changed the oil himself every 3k), no accidents, not even a door ding, hand washed weekly. Only things it could really be faulted for are wear on the driver's seat bolsters and a few small stains on the driver's floor carpet.

I'm looking to purchase a Honda Civic in the next couple months when prices drop back down. I'm afraid of trying to sell this privately as I believe it might be difficult with so many miles on it (drive 60/day for work). I owe exactly what KBB says its worth, between 10 and 11k. Was thinking of after getting a final price on the Civic to stop by Carmax and see what they would give to have myself a base of what to compare what the dealerships might offer. Thanks for any info y'all can give me.
My guesstimate would be 8k-9k,and most probably somewhere in between.
Volvomax can give you the most accurate value.

Truck is in excellent condition, and what I was intending to do with it didn't workout, so I am looking to downsize to a car. What could I realistically expect to get for it on trade in, and how much more if any could I get selling it on my own?
Thanks
