Assuming it has leather and moonroof and no other add-ons, you're probably looking at $31k, give or take a nickel.

Any options, such as one of the optional packages (premium, comfort, luxury, nav) or stand-alone options (Mark Levinson sound system, etc.)? That might make a difference.

Local dealer has this used on their lot and I'm finding a pretty wide spread from KBB and Edmunds. They are asking 23,995, but knocked it down to 23,500 if I wanted to deal in next couple of days.
    36,700 miles
    5.4 V8
    Towing Package
    Step Bars
    Bed Liner
    Power Driver's Seat
Two-tone paint (Red top, silver strip on lower quarter)

Currently have 2008 Honda Accord LX-P with 26,000 miles on it. Dealer payoff is 15,719. No other options save for rear spoiler and tint. Offered 14,000 as trade-in, which I thought was low.
Haven't made deal yet as not sure I'm ready to move up to fullsize truck just yet. FWIW, Nissan dealer offered $8000 off 2010 Titan 4-door, but haven't confirmed if they have some factory-to-dealer cash they aren't talking about of if that's just invoice spread and current $5000 customer cash.

    Thanks for any input!

A new LX-P can be had for under 20K, IIRC, as Honda has $1200 in dealer money on 'em so 14 sounds about right for a dealer to make money on it. What you owe on it is irrelevant to its value.
  • bigbutrbigbutr Member Posts: 111
That's the dilemma. Do I do just that and pay a couple thousand more for a brand new XLT or try and work them down some on the used on? Down here it's impossible to find a 2-3 year old truck that doesn't have 60-75,000 miles on it already and a price of 20,000 and up. I don't drive a lot, so I'm leaning towards new since in a 2-3 years I'll have a low mileage truck in good condition that should fetch a good price. Then again, gas could go up to $5 a gallon and no one would want one.

that is a dilemma. if you don't drive a lot, you won't have to spend a lot on maintenance for a few years.
check the tires and brakes on the 07. open up the air filter, might give you a clue as to how it has been maintained.
either way i would only buy it if I was going to hang on to it for a while.

I've leased last two vehicles and decided to buy this time around so I plan on hanging onto it for awhile. I've got a buddy at Ford who's going to check the VIN for me to see if anything pops up. I've got nothing but time since I'm well under mileage on my Accord and lease doesn't run out til February. Maybe some rebates will go up and make my decision easier. Wife likes Red Candy color scheme on new '10. Thanks for the feedback.

Just FYI- 2010 is the end of the line for the 4.6L and 5.4L V8 engines in all F150 models. The 2011 F150 line will offer four all-new engine options that outperform the current V8s in all areas- more power and better fuel economy, gotta love technology!

The current Modular V8s offer 248-310hp and 294-365lb-ft of torque and highway fuel economy is rated from 19-21mpg.

Two of the 2011 engines are pulled straight from the 2011 Mustang-
    3.7L V6 - 305hp@6500rpm + 280lb-ft@4250rpm, 6-AT, est. 25mpg highway
    5.0L V8 - 412hp@6500rpm + 390lb-ft@4250rpm, 6-speed AT est. 21mpg highway

But the most interesting and potentially best performing is the other V6 offering....
    3.5L EcoBoost Twin-Turbo V6- hp and torque ratings of 400+, 24mpg hwy

These impending changes could work for you in one of two ways-
    1) If you're interesting in the upcoming engine options with their promise of higher performance and class-leading fuel economy, you'll want to hold out until they hit dealer lots in Nov/Dec.....
    2) Or you can use the knowledge of the impending updates (a mild cosmetic 'refresh' will accompany the powertrain changes) to negotiate a killer deal on a 2010 model! Holding out until closer to the launch of the 2011 models will net the best deals...and if you can wait until the 2011 actually hits the ground, the 2010 models remaining will end up going at "fire sale" prices....patience is truly a virtue in this situation! =)

Well, considering I am well under mileage on my current car and the lease is up in February, I can certainly wait. I am intrigued by the new engines going in, but it will be nice to be in a position to choose either/or. The only drawback will be limited color choices by that point, as I really do like the Candy Red. But hey, if I can save serious money at that point, just about any color would work.
Thanks for the info. That makes things a lot clearer.

The M3 is a great car. It is only a weekend driver though and I'd like something a little more extreme. I love the M engine when I can wring it out a bit, but I wish it had a little more low end grunt sometimes. Also my wife would like me to get a car with some sort of flappy paddle gearbox, she is scared to drive the manual. Like I said, I'd just like to see where I stand, I'm not in a big hurry. I may wait to see what the facelifted '12 GT-R has to offer.

My brother's Durango was stolen and rendered useless, and he wants a Liberty Sport. What I know about SUVs can be put into... a very, very small container. He's looking at $11K down, fortunately, and here are the two he's looking at from dealerships:

Location: Kansas City, MO or KC, Kansas
    2009
    10K miles
Blue with gray cloth interior, power everything, keyless entry, tow package, alloy wheels, tinted glass.
    Asking price: $19,999
    http://www.opjeep.com/inventory/Details.aspx?VIN=1J8GN28KX9W520288

    OR

    2008
    19K miles
Silver with gray cloth interior, power everything - doesn't appear to have tow package or tinted windows.
Asking price: $17,998 (Carmax - no negotiating)
    2008 Jeep Liberty

My initial thought is that if you don't mind the blue exterior, the 2009 is a much sweeter deal, esp. if he could likely negotiate a slightly better price. Thoughts?

Again, not my region, but I can give you MY numbers.
That '09 would trade for right about $17k, give or take a nickel. So there is a little room to play, but not much.

The '08 is roundabout $15k, so they are both about $3k over trade-in.

The '09 indicates it is a 'CPO', but what does that mean?
Another part of the ad mentions you get remainder of 3/36 warranty.
The dealership bought it January 6th, so they have had it for a while.
Around here, buy it before Labor Day. That's when people close up their cottages, pull in their pleasure boats and start thinking about winter. 4x4 prices jump a grand automatically.

Thanks to both of you! That info should help a lot. He's a bit flexible on the specific vehicle - just wants a late model Liberty that's not stripped. I do think he's partial to the blue 2009, and if it's been on the lot for awhile, they might be ready to move it. Fingers crossed... I'll let you know how it goes.

If its nice and needs nothing, they probably paid roundabout $11k for it (Galves is $10,500 to $11,500). So $13,500 is about the end of the world on it. $14k if you just can't live without it.

You didn't say if its stick or auto, though. If its stick, its $500 less.

I knew I forgot something! It is an automatic.

The dealer was asking $14, I have them down to $12,800 OTD with a 6month/6000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Also had a bunch of stuff done recently, including new tires and new brakes which saves me quite a bit.

I think that is more than fair for both sides. Thanks for getting back to me, I'll let you know what the final outcome is.

Looks like my brother is getting a 2005 Liberty instead of the 08 or 09. Found one with 28K on the clock at a Chrysler dealership. Carfax showed it was a lease return (with super low miles), then sold to an older lady, who drove it for a year and put another 3K on it, then traded back to same dealership for a sedan, as she had difficulty getting in/out of it.

They offered to sell at 12,500, which sounds good to me. He walked on it yesterday - not because it was a bad deal, but because he wanted to think about it vs. a newer model, but told the dealership he'd give a yes or no within 24 hours. It's been on the lot for a bit, so low risk that it'd sell overnight. He plans to seal the deal today.

Thanks to all who helped with my previous question. Only a few hours to let me know if you think it's a giant mistake. :)

I agree that a 2005 Jeep Liberty is an improvement over a 2002 Dodge Durango (I'm assuming you meant that it was a recovered stolen vehicle when he bought it, rather than him stealing it). If that's not the case, I'd hope that he'd find something much better to steal than a Durango! ;)

At least it only has 28k miles and it sounds like it's had an easy life. The 3.7L V6 and 4-speed automatic have been among the most reliable Jeep/Chrysler powertrain combos in recent years. I believe they had a 7/70 Powertrain Warranty back in '05, but I'm not sure if it's transferable or not? If so, he might have another 12-24 months of powertrain coverage....always a good thing. (Note- I'm assuming it has the 3.7L V6, if it is a Sport model with the 2.4L 4-cylinder, it's seriously underpowered and overpriced!!!)

Just curious, is it a 2WD or 4WD? Sport, Limited or Renegade?

I meant that my brother was driving a 2002 Durango (which he purchased in 2002) and it was stolen a few weeks ago, recovered... but badly damaged & totaled by the insurance co.

It's the one with the 3.7L engine - 4WD. I'm almost positive it's the Limited model. When I ran trade-in values on it, the dealership was a few hundred below TMV and other "book" values, and he negotiated another $500 off the original asking price, so I think he did well for himself.

He doesn't put a lot of miles on vehicles, so I figure if he drives it for a year and decides it's not really what he wants, he can sell it privately without taking much of a hit. It seems like a vehicle he'd like.

The SMG in the M3 isn't that bad; the version they put in the 3 Series, 6 Series, and Z4 is pretty horrible.

Newer ones are supposedly much better.

The SMG in the M5 and M6 is a bit of an improvement, but best of all is the M DCT in the E9x M3. Unfortunately, a decent CPO E9x M3 will cost over twice what a nice E46 M3 will cost...
